Coracle Fish and Chips in Ceredigion

I can't praise the fish and chips I've just had highly enough. The fish was cooked fresh and the batter was lovely and thin and crispy. The chips were cooked perfectly. A beautiful meal. Well worth the hours drive to get there.

We were in the area on an Xmas break,and had heard great things about this place, and boy were we not disappointed. My husband arrived 5 mins before closing time, we fully expected to be turned away. The staff were so hospitable and gave us our order without hesitation, and said if we call them ahead in future, they will stay open till we arrive! Chips were beautiful, best we have had in some time. Shame we live 200 miles away, this place would be our go to chip shop 100%,fantastic food and great staff

The best chips I have ever tasted (and I am not a huge fan of fish and chips.) crispy on the outside and fluffy potato inside. The batter on the fish was light and the fish succulent. This was a very busy fish and chip shop and I am not surprised!

Fast and professional service! Extremely polite and helpful. Portions were great! And fairly priced. Off street parking was a plus! A good experience and a delicious chippy tea!

Went along to this fish bar simply because it was within walking distance of our hotel, but what a find! A family run business that couldn’t have been more welcoming or friendly. Ate there four evenings in total, something different every time (albeit with chips!) ,always served beautifully with a warm smile and a personal touch. Very competitive prices. Nice little seating area where you could watch the comings and goings, but without feeling in the way or being watched yourselves. Found out this place has not been going too long, but is already winning awards and being featured in the paper, and well deserved! The food is great. Thanks for the warm Welsh hospitality!

Called one quiet lunchtime for fish and chips. Good chips, fluffy and golden, and nice fish, cooked while you wait, not long. Nice, not greasy, batter on the fish, and no skin - hurray! Friendly service. I will call again.

Fantastic! We are staying in the area and were recommended to try the Coracle. We were not disappointed. Probably the best chips ever. After a day exploring the area and a blustery walk on the beach, this lovely chippie provided just the treat we needed. Can thoroughly recommend 👍

Travelling around the area, we needed some lunch and most pubs only do evening meals....by chance we stopped here and found a great place to get fish and chips. Interestingly they have the option of ' batterless' fish if you're feeling healthy! Plus chicken, sausage etc. Good quality, well priced, friendly staff. You can sit out the front to eat them and there's even a clean public loo 50 metres away so you can wash your hands first! Recommended

Excellent service - even though it was busy when we visited. Staff were very polite and worked efficiently. Food is freshly cooked as it is ordered - so there is a short delay in obtaining your order - but well worth the wait. Good sized portions. Chips were not greasy. Batter was crisp and also not greasy. The cod was very tasty and flaky.

Having only discovered this chip shop a few weeks ago, I have been back several times since. The fish in this chip shop is the best fish I have tasted, ever. Over the last 52 years of my life I have visited many chip shops all over the country. This place makes the best cod in batter I have ever tasted. It is reasonably priced with crispy batter and flaky flesh. I will now travel an hour to get fish and chips from here. They have an inside sitting area and an outside table too. As well as the fish being amazing, the chips are superb. So creamy and well cooked. This place is cheaper than my local chip shop plus opposite the chip shop you have one of the cheapest petrol stations in Wales. So we fill up ourselves and fill up the car at the same time. The owners of the chip shop and their staff are very friendly. There is parking on the premises and a larger car park next door. They accept card payments, which is a bonus in these times when no one carries money anymore

My wife and I called in to The Coracle recently and got there about 15 minutes earlier than their opening time but the staff very obligingly opened the doors and served us and we thoroughly enjoyed a decent portion of fish and chips and a large spring roll and chips. All of the highest quality and cooked to perfection. Thank you so much folks we will be back whenever we are in the area

Staying in Llechryd for a week, we have had cod and chips from here twice as it was so good! Fish freshly cooked to order, lovely chips, clean and tidy premises with good Covid provisions. Definitely recommend!

Called in today for fish and chips 🍟,I have got to say they were the best I have had for many many years.We sat in to eat them and the service was excellent,I couldn’t fault anything.

Would highly recommend this busy fish and chip shop. The serves were generous and the fish was cooked to perfection in light batter. Reasonably priced. There are tables for customers wishing to eat on the premises.

Tidy premises in tidy location car parking off road. We always pop in for a takeaway fish n chip supper when passing through Llechryd. on the way back from Cardigan and the west coast.We love our Fish suppers but I have got to really like the huge spicy Spring Roll and Chips just as much. The serving is well portioned and GREASE FREE very clean and presented food. Excellent attentive and friendly service a pure breath of fresh air these days.

We just had take away but would be happy to eat in as it looked clean and welcoming. The fish was lovely and fresh and love the option of less batter (as I usually remove it as too fatty for me) Only reason I haven't given full marks is the chips- they taste and feel like they're pre fried and then re fried. Perfectly edible just not like chip shop chips- but might just be me! I would recommend this.

A local had advised us that the fish was usually good but the chips poor. Well we ordered both anyway and although some chips looked scrag ends,the whole meal tasted lovely. You can eat in or takeaway from this clean looking pleasant establishment.

We visit frequently and I have decided after today's visit that I really should write a review to express my love for the place!! First of all the staff always look very happy and very welcoming!Secondly the place is always so clean!And the most important the food.. the fish is always fantastic, the batter is always perfectly cooked and the fish inside is cooked perfectly and tastes really fresh.The portion sizes are great (which in this area seems to always be an issue) and I've always found the chips cooked perfectly too!The coleslaw, curry sauce and gravy are all amazing too!!We live the other side of cardigan and always drive to this chip shop instead of going to any others.Already looking forward to my next visit!

Just happened to find this fish and Chip shop when passing through Llechryd near Aberteifi on the A 484 to Castell Emlyn Newydd. What can I say I have found fish and chip heaven a superb shop, we sat inside, the shop is immaculate, staff very welcoming and the food is undoubtedly the best fish and chips I have ever had freshly cooked and great size portions, will be making more detours to here when we visit West Wales in future.

Fish and Chips happen about once a month in our house, so we want it to be good, and you can't do any better than the excellent Coracle Fish and Chips. I am lucky to live in Cilgerran and be able to quickly go over to Llechryd to collect this treat, I have been doing this for five years and they have always been delightful people who take pride in the quality of the food they produce, its always been of a high standard. Its always freshly cooked, the fish is always good just falls away, they know which type of potato the chips have been made from, and they hand make tartar sauce, coleslaw and other things. Last visit unusually I took my 94 year old mum, we weren't planning to eat in their restaurant but she was so impressed with the cleanliness we did! Praise indeed! Mum thought it was a wonderful treat, and with a pot of tea it was perfect. My only wish would be if they could open a wee bit later so after I have finished work now and again I could go there. Thank you so much

Really good fish and chips, well cooked and delicious. The chips were crispy on the outside, soft inside as they should be. Cod was large and well cooked and very fresh. Very polite service and immaculately clean. Limited seating area which might not meet demand at busy times, but it was empty lunch time Thursday. Very nice. Recommend highly.

called today lunchtime with my wife and brother in law the whole restaurant was spotlessly clean and the fish and chips were superb a credit to the owners will definetly call again soon

We went here on a Saturday evening to get some fish and chips as we were sick of cooking! What a treat. The shop is clean and the staff really welcoming. The fish is all cooked to order which is brilliant - you’re not fobbed off with stuff that’s been sitting there keeping warm for ages like in other shops. We had the haddock which was fresh, white and chunky. The fish is put in a separate box so the batter stays crispy and the chips were well cooked and delicious. Not at all greasy. Perfect. Highly recommended.

We called in the Coracle on our way home, as we have done many times. My daughter and I both had the fish and chips and my granddaughters wanted sausage and chips. Oh my word what an expensive mistake. The last twice we’d called wasn’t very good but because we had some very good food in the past we decided to try again, after all we all have off days. This time the food was awful! The fish was over cooked with pieces of black under the batter where the oil needed changing, the chips had been blanched and then recooked for too long. One of my granddaughters didn’t eat any, they were that bad. It’s ridiculous to buy food and then have to cook a meal because it was so bad. I’m afraid after this time I will not be going back, bad day or not......it’s too expensive to be put in the bin.

Popped in from work after a late call out ,in cardigan. I ordered fish and chips and was impressed with what I had . The fish was well cooked and the chips were how I like them.

Located opposite the garage in Llechryd. A lovely clean welcoming fish and chip shop with plenty of choice. When we visited it was bust which is a sign of a popular place. The service was first class and the quality of the good excellent. Good size portions.

These days, it’s a tradition with me that I have fish and chips once a year, so as you can imagine, when the time comes around, I’m more than ready for it and I’m pretty picky about the place I choose to go to. So, it’s no surprise that this place is top of the list, not just for me but for the rest of the family too. Great non-soggy chips, lovely fresh, white, flaky, perfectly-cooked fish which steams slightly as you break through the succulent, crispy batter. They have a lovely menu of other things too, but you’d have to go a long way to get better fish and chips.

Fue nuestra primera visita. El café estaba muy limpio y el personal era muy amable. Aunque teníamos una toma de distancia, nos podíamos sentar y comer dentro. El rissole y patatas fritas eran preciosas y el rissole era su propia receta, que tenía un condimento de hierbas encantador. Sirve en una caja de cartón recycleable, pero nos daban con cuchillos de metal y horquillas. Altamente recomendado, con los precios muy razonables.

Excelente, sabroso, lleno de sabor, personal amable, grandes porciones, sabroso, selección de comida deliciosa, buena relación calidad-precio y mencioné sabroso? Afortunadamente suficiente me encanta bastante cerca de aquí y a ser un habitual. Patatas fritas preciosa que son difíciles de conseguir por estos días con aparcamiento en la calle durante unos 3 - 4 coches y fácil acceso para personas de movilidad reducida. Imprescindible si estás de paso o cerca.

En outer manera hkme, paramos para nuestra cena en los chips. Todo el mundo me voy, me dan una parte de todo el personal, que es alegre, paciente (porque soy bastante indeciso) y muy agradable. Su pescado y patatas fritas son para morirse, y aún mejor que se sirven en una caja de cartón, con algunos perejil y una rodaja de limón. Fantástico toque. Sus guisantes blandos son los mejores para llevar guisantes que he comprado, y hemos decidido que cada vez queremos una cena chip, tjat viajaremos el 10 millas en cada sentido. La calidad de la comida golpearon con creces al tiendas chip en nuestra zona local y el servicio de atención al cliente es fantástica. Sigan con el buen trabajo.

Conseguimos llevar el pescado y patatas fritas para 4 adultos y un niño durante su estancia en una casa rural cercana. Compramos 3 porciones de bacalao y patatas fritas, que todo era excelente - pescado encantador en una empanada sabrosa finas. También nos dieron una porción de bacalao y patatas fritas para picaduras de 4 años, y un abadejo y patatas fritas. La persona que tenía el abadejo no era tan impresionado con él y dijo que estaba bastante duro en los bordes. Todos nosotros pensamos que las patatas fritas eran muy buenas y toda la comida estaba aún caliente después de un trayecto de 10 minutos atrás. Nos gustaría volver otra vez, pero todos dan bacalao y patatas la próxima vez!

Nos han mudado a la zona de Newcastle emlyn y después de un viaje de compras por la mañana en Cardigan decidimos probar el Coracle para comer en el camino a casa, no nos decepcionó, la comida era excelente, el personal era eficiente y amable.

Found this while out on a river walk, what luck. The food is unbelievable for fish and chips.. It was cooked to perfection, not greasy or oily. A nice touch with lemon and parsley but this can be topped off with their homemade tartare which is a must.

We we're staying nearby and popped into Coracle fish and chip shop just before they closed last night. This is a wonderful Fish and Chip shop. The food is freshly cooked and oh so tasty, we keep going back. It is always busy so a sign of a great F&C shop. They sell the usual along with homemade tartar sauce and much to my husbands delight they sell Gravy.There is a seating area also if you wish to dine in, you do not get waited service if you do.The staff and owner are always welcoming and friendly.

We stopped for fish and chips on Friday evening. The food was delicious - fish cooked to order which was a treat. There were lots of people in here a mixture of tourists and locals. I would thoroughly recommend.

Cod fillets cooked to order. Very generous portions. Premises are spotlessly clean. Staff are all friendly, welcoming & helpful. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Keep up the good work☺. Well worth a visit we will be returning.

Fresh fish , not frozen like so many, I'm from London ,come to this area three times a year, always stop off for a fish and chips, at the Coracle, never dissapointed..

Nice clean shop but fish and chips average don't really know what all the fuss is about on here, best in WALES really, you have not travelled far if you believe that.

Friendly place. Always good food, either eat in or take away. We always eat at home, only 3 minutes away by car. Plenty of parking room outside or 10 metres away by Coracle Hall. Take cash, cards not accepted. Until 8 pm, cash machine available inside the garage shop opposite.

I only live up the road from The Coracle and have never had a bad meal from them. The only problem is that it is so close to home that I pop down more often than I should :-). Call in everybody well worth the visit.

Well it is with sad heart we say goodbye to this wonderful fish and chip shop ,always clean ,food fresh and cooked to perfection .We have recently retired and moved to New Zealand ,just too long a journey for the excellent fayre,once again a big thank you from David and Anne we will miss you ,all the very best for the future,good ,special and polite people here God bless

Village chippy,call in, you won't be disappointed,collect your meal then pop down the road approx 500 yds to the river and sit on the bridge,eat your food and enjoy the view, if your lucky you might even see a salmon jump.

This was our second visit to The Coracle. Our last visit was in February 2015 and we were a bit worried that it might not have been as good as we recalled. We need not have worried, the food was excellent. We'd been on the coastal path for 4 hours and were ravenous. We opted for fish and chips and pie and chips, eaten at one of their tables, together with a mug of tea each. Despite being 'non-waited' tables the staff were very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and checking that we were happy with our meal.There was a constant stream of customers and the staff were friendly and courteous to all. The shop and seating area was all spotlessly clean and all together we had a very pleasant experience.

Well folks talk about fish and chips,no one can touch this place it is the best!!!went to a pub in Abercych had fish and chips and it was just a rip off,came here the next night well it was fab and at half the price.This place is spotless, staff exceptional ,read the reviews it is exceptional.It should win Fish shop of the year,it has with my wife and I.please try !!!

We called in for a quick fish and chip supper before going to the theatre.I have to say that it has been a long time since we have had such nice piece of fish,it was cooked to order and was excellent the batter was light and crisp not greasy or soggy. Greasy, soggy chips, obviously old frozen tasteless fish. The service was very poor, rude and they didn't care about their customers. I will never go there again and advise any real fish and chip lovers to avoid this place at all cost's. Much better chip shops locally elsewhere.

We never normally think of fish and chips as being a special meal. We were wrong. The Coracle serves fish that is at least as good as fish we have eaten in specialist fish restaurants here or abroad. My wife does not like the batter that smothers the fish in normal fish and chip shops. The Coracle serves haddock without batter. When you get it, it looks as though it does have batter. But it doesn't. You bite into some of the creamiest, tastiest haddock you will ever eat.Each order is served with parsley and lemon. You can eat at the tables inside, or like us, rush back to the house and eat with a chilled wine. Perfection!!!

If a chippy could win a Michelin Star then Coracles deserves 2 ! Not only is the property immaculately clean the produce used is clearly of the highest quality. I was not surprised to hear that the owner is a very experienced chef ( no short-order fat fryer here) whose specialty was and still is - fish. This knowledge is reflected in whats presented. Dont expect soggy, fat drenched orders here- this is a class act and the fish is cooked perfectly and too order. Home made fish cakes and rissoles were the best.The Owner has a wealth of local knowledge and while taking what he does very seriously will provide all manner of local advice.His team are happy and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. We sat in the small seated area but were treated like celebs in a 5 star bistro.We will be back as there is no comparison locally and have yet to find fish cooked this well anywhere in the UK..

There was I, driving along a long country road I have not been down for some years, and feeling hungry as dusk was falling. And then I saw a small sign by the road saying "Fish and Chips 1/4 mile". Seeing as it was late afternoon I didn't expect it to be open but it was! Right opposite a busy garage, the building and the carparking area were pristine, and the same cleanliness was inside the chippie as well. The mirrored stainless steel counter had not a smudge on it! The service was friendly and quick, despite it being cooked to order. I had cod and chips and they were just how I like it. Chips crisp [not greasy] and the cod moist inside with a crispy and light batter. The price was very fair. There were tables inside to eat in but I chose to sit in my car so I could listen to the radio. I had been the only person in and wondered at it as it was such good quality, but before I left, another five cars arrived, so the locals do know what a treasure they have there. Interesting photos on the walls of coracles and coraclemen. They have a lavatory as well.

A fantastic family meal. Arrived towards end of lunchtime service and we were given a very friendly welcome. We opted to eat in and our order was taken quickly. Food cooked fresh to order but didn't have to wait long. Fish and chips were delicious, kids had homemade fish cakes which were beautiful. Lovely pot of tea too! Place very smart and spotlessly clean. Easy parking at back of shop and clean toilet too. Will return whenever holidaying in the area.

Certainly some of the best fish and chips I have had. I'm glad to say its our local chippy.Freshly cooked to order and served with some panache - for a chippy - with a wedge of lemon and sptig of parsley.

Everything cooked fresh to order. We had haddock, chips and mushy peas - these were served as on a plate but in a box and with garnish of a sprig of parsley and a slice of lemon - the meal was DELICIOUS!!!You can eat in at the restaurant which is spotlessly clean or alternatively use the wooden benches outside.

We popped out to get some food while staying at Hammet House. We opted for Cod and Chips and Haddock and Chips and were very happy with what we got. Everything was piping hot and delicious, and there was space to eat inside, with metal cutlery provided for our use. I'd certainly recommend!

When you read the highly complimentary reviews about Coracle Fish and Chips shop you might wonder whether they are all true. I can personally confirm that they are! This is no ordinary 'chippie' where professional chef Simon has raised this humble fare to new heights. With superb fish cooked to order (and you don't have to wait long), golden chunky chips presented ready for eating in a neat take-away box, salt and vinegar if you want them, topped with a sprig of parsley it is hard not to dive in straight away. If you want to eat then and there Simon provides gleaming tables for hungry eaters. The whole establishment sparkles with cleanliness, combined with a friendly atmosphere and a wonderful welcome from Simon and his young assistants. For me, this is the very best place around Cardigan to get my weekly fish and chips.

This chip shop is very popular with the locals. There was a queue which is always a good sign. The place is spotless. Every bit of chrome or glass has a shine as if it has been buffed that day. The fish is all cooked to order and what I saw of it looked very good. I only bought a bag of chips. They were very well packaged in a box and very hot straight out of the fryer. Some say that summer potatoes don't make good chips. Well I'm not sure what was wrong, but the chips were a bit disappointing. Too much fat had penetrated the outside of the chip. Having said that I would go back and give it another go with a portion of fish. The curry sauce seemed to be very poplar and had a smelled good.

Excellent fish and chip takeaway- best around. They try to make sure your meal is tip top by cooking the fish upon arrival. Crispy batter and a very clean establishment! Just a shame it isn't open seven days a week :) Looking forward to our take away this evening!

I enjoyed our visit so much last year on holiday, I insisted we made a trip out of our way this year! I think this is pretty much the nicest fish & chips I've ever had - everything cooked to order - the batter is light and crispy - chips are perfect and the homemade tartar sauce is delicious. The kids (5 and 3) shared the small cod strips and chips and this was more than enough for them. This is primarily a take away, but they have a few tables & chairs where you can eat in, which we did. Had the weather been nicer, we'd have taken away and gone to the park very close by (comprising a sports field and children's play park behind the village hall next door). The service is also lovely - very welcoming and helpful and when one of the kids fell of his chair, they came over to check he was ok etc. Highly recommended!

Have been a few times now and even as a fan of Bowens I have to say that their food is very special indeed. Service is quick even though the food is all cooked to order. There is a small sit-down area too. If you like good fish and chips and are in the Cardigan/Aberteifi area this place is a must!

If your travelling from Cardigan after a days shopping or from a day at the lovely beaches of Mwnt or Penbryn and heading towards Newcastle Emlyn or travelling in reverse and you begin to feel peckish look out for the warning sign as you come into Llecrhyd. 'Fish & Chips half a mile' ! It’s well worth the stop at 'Coracle' Fish & Chips. There’s room for parking, toilets and a sitting area both in and out. The fish is cooked to order and the chips delivered hot and crisp with wedge of lemon and parsley. Choice of sauces in bottles (no sachets) and nice salt & pepper pots on the table. We didn't have to wait very long and were invited to eat in as the evening was getting cooler. Staff were friendly, enthusiastic and attentive. A recommended stop.

This has to be, by far, the best fish and chips for miles. The chips are always perfectly cooked, the batter, to die for, the mushy peas a must, and it's all finished off with homemade - yes, homemade tartar sauce. We travel a few miles for this treat on a regular basis. The shop is always clean and the welcome always warm.

Why can't all chip shops be like this? Lovely white flaky fish perfectly cooked in a choice of normal or light batter along with good chips and perfect home made tartar sauce. We were on holiday in the area and they were a real treat! Best ever.....

Ive been here a few times and every time have the fish. cooked to perfection every time. Friendly service. A must for fish and chips!

The food served in this restaurant is all of the highest quality and cooked to perfection. If you want fish, order it as soon as you go in since it is cooked to order. The "batterless" haddock will be appreciated by those who are not keen on the thick batter one normally associates with fish and chips, but that is available if you like it. The fishcakes, coleslaw, sauces, etc are all made on the premises and are delicious! Takeaway or Eat In, you can have a quick, tasty meal at a reasonable price. It's not Fine Dining but of its kind it leads the field!

Best chip shop I have ever been to, fish fresh and the best batter I have ever tasted, chips crunchy and cooked to perfection. The service is second two none. If you are thinking of popping in don't hesitate you will not regret it. There homemade fishcakes, and tartar sauce are great.

These fish and chips are absolutely delicious. The chips are cooked to perfection as is the fish and the batter is to die for! They are served with parsley and lemon so look good too. We travelled all the way from St David's for our supper and it was worth the journey. The children's fish and chips were perfect for my grand daughter and also my mum who didn't want a large portion. The portion size for adults is absolutely spot on .
