Coq & Bull in North Down

6 of us had Sunday lunch. We could not fault the food or the welcoming staff. The menu had something for everyone and we had starters of the prawns and bread selection. Mains were Sunday roast beef special, fish cakes and battered fish, all lovely. Desserts too were excellent. We loved the atmosphere and we got just the right level of attention from staff. Would definitely recommend and would return.

Food was excellent. Service a bit slow. Check your bill before leaving. I was charged £4.50 for roast potatoes with lamb. Discovered when I got home that they were included in price

Another delightful lunch visit to Coq & Bull! Ultra courteous service throughout our visit. Excellent variety on menu . . . it really was difficult to make a final choice! Food was absolutely delicious. We sat outside on the covered patio - it was simply beautiful. Clandeboye Lodge is a real gem.

It’s unusual these days for a restaurant to continue trading (in general) with consistently good service, standards, food quality and ambience. I’ve been dining here a few times a year for several years. I always have a great experience, and the standards have never slipped. The welcome is warm, the wines well priced, the menu varied (but you can request substitutions and the odd item that’s no longer on the menu) and the decor still looks great. Every time I visit I fall in love with a new dish. Tonight I fell in love with the coconut panna cotta! Would highly recommend!

We reserved a Saturday Tea Time table and well worth our visit we had the bread board and oils for a starter and a nice bottle of red wine . Mains was lamb and it really was cooked to perfection:-) cocktails and coffee rounded of a beautiful meal . Staff where very attentive and very friendly. Definitely must do again

Sunday lunch before the festive season starts has become a treat over the past few years. In the previous two covid years tables were set well apart and mask wearing was strictly observed, but as the disease has waned throughout 2022 it was nice to see a more relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. The food, as always, was very nice. Starters of home made soup and mackerel pate were followed by an early Christmas treat of a roast turkey dinner. The service was quick and without unnecessary fuss, and helped to make for a memorable afternoon.

Great reception with our pre-ordered Freixenet - perfectly chilled - and a board of finger food. Butter with it - but knives were missing. Dinner was sumptuous: from the porkbelly starter, scampis, tempura and the quite perfect vegetable currysoup. Our maincourses were equally 1st class: a grand pork Tomahawk steak, a Cod dish, mine was a juicy and perfectly roasted lamb. A very wide selection of open wines (Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay, a quite amazing Zinfandel, and for my lamb a CS-Merlot that did the trick. We shall be back again next year!

Had several very good meals here over the past few months. The menu stars many of NI's local greats covering Fowl, Feather and Fin and a good few options for those that don't indulge in any of those three. An ample wine list to help you wash it all down and the service is spot on being attentive and knowledgeable without becoming intrusive. It's extremely popular so book well ahead

Went here on Saturday night with my wife as a birthday treat. I ordered the lamb and was very disappointed at the portion size and the quality of the food. The lamb was very chewy and was certainly not worth the £25.50 they charged for it. My wife had a curry which was nice but nothing special. We couldn’t fault the staff who were very friendly and helpful but the food was a big disappointment.

Eating out is a combination of setting , staff and of course the food. So often one of these is a disappointment . This is not the case with the Coq&Bull. The setting is beautiful - we ate in the covered terrace. The staff greet you as if you’ve made their day and they were waiting for you to arrive . The menu , whilst not extensive is seriously delicious . HIGHLY recommend the lamb - beautifully cooked . The tempura prawns starter was delicious . The staff are attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Seafood chowder was just as it should be and the breads are delicious . It’s peaceful , spacious and relaxing

We dined one evening in the restaurant on a two night stay. We ordered the fillet steaks accompanied by chips, baby potatoes, French fried onions & a pepper sauce. The steaks arrived as ordered, one rare & the other well done, both delicious. Glasses of wine were quite expensive. The desserts were nice, could have been sweeter but I do have a sweet tooth. Staff were friendly & professional. Covid measures in place include wearing of face coverings by staff & hand sanitizing stations. Recommended.

My family and I were disappointed this evening. We waited 25 mins to order and a further 25 mins until our food arrived. My mother’s burger was pink. Doubt I’ll be back. The waitress taking our order was very understanding and explained that she doesn’t usually take orders but noticed we were waiting ages so just scribbled it down on paper instead of on the tablet. Perhaps the restaurant was understaffed this evening which is a shame as it is a nice environment.

Booked this as part of a package for the Clandeboye Hotel with my sister. Staff were so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. I had the burger which was absolutely delicious and my sister had the chicken, which was amazing as well. For dessert I had the marathon pudding and my sister had the chocolate ganache. The drinks were also amazing, especially their unique twist on strawberry daiquiris! The restaurant itself had a lovely welcoming atmosphere, I would highly recommend and we will be back! Special mention to Leah, Jordan and David for their hospitality and professionalism, they are a credit to themselves and to the Clandeboye hotel.

Had lunch yesterday with 3 other friends of a certain age and in spite of the challenges we provided the staff were brilliant from beginning to end. Our food could not be faulted either so all in all we had a splendid afternoon and look forward to a revisit. Highly recommended!!!

Had a lovely meal here a few nights ago. The place was busy but we were fitted in early. The restaurant tables were well spaced for social distancing and the staff were wearing masks which was good not only that they were happy and pleasant.Our meal was really enjoyable ,in these peculiar times we felt safe in our surroundings. I should add you can eat outside and it looked very nice and plenty of heaters on the go.

This is getting a regular popular destination this would be our 22nd visit as we always like the cuisine and the staff are always polite helpful and above all the food selection is second to none and above all the range of prices is always money well spent despite this virus it didn't put us off as always my steak was cooked to perfection and my wife loves there salmon dishes would recommend the roast beef and the cod dishes as this is what we had on this occasion keep up the great work that you all do as me and Jenny do appreciate everything that you do see you all again soon

Went for a meal tonight with family, this was our first meal out since covid. Firstly the 'set up' within the restaurant is perfect, plenty of hand sanitation stations, if you want to use them. All staff wearing masks (although I understsnd why they are wearing them, I really felt for them and we all would have been perfectly happy and more comfortable if staff didn't have to wear masks ) Excellent service, just as usual, overall it was a very pleasant dining experience. Food was first rate, usual high quality. There is a slightly reduced menu, but all our favourites were still there and there was a really good selection to choose from. Restaurant was busy enough so a good atmosphere too. I wouldn't hesitate to book lunch or dinner again soon. They now have several outside dining tables too, which looked lovely, with heaters and canopies.Service here is excellent, as are the staff, all very friendly and helpful.Definitely worth booking a meal here.

I have dined in Coq & Bull many times and have also introduced friends and colleagues to the restaurant. Indeed, having organised a recent event for a local club, almost 20 of us had dinner there and to a man, all thought the menu choice, food quality, ambiance and service was of the highest order.Being a regular visitor I can add that the seasonal menu changes really add to the experience and the creativity in the use of local products, surely amongst the best in the world, is outstanding. Having just enjoyed the Armagh apple, parsnip and Comber potato soup and Beer battered locally caught haddock with Farmageddon onion rings on the side, I have to say that the meal and the service was superb. As always, the staff team were friendly, attentive and efficient. As a measure of our experience, my friends and I are now planning our next visit !

Having just returned from a short break at the Clandyboye lodge I would like thank the staff for a most enjoyable stay everyone from check in ,bar staff and restaurant staff were all extremely pleasant and polite we will definitely return .Worth a visit if in the area

Consistently the best restaurant available in our opinion.We have been frequenting here for the past 3 years weekly to fortnightly and hand on heart can say the quality of service, the atmosphere and the quality and consistency of the food are second to none, it's always cooked to perfection and wait time is always perfect. Also to see so many other happy regulars visiting week in week out speaks volumes when it comes to the overall experience.We very rarely write reviews but we are booking for tomorrow night and everyone just said one more sleep !! Staff are fantastic with kids as well.Can't recommend highly enough.

Having frequented this restaurant regularly over the past 10 years, we took a break after receiving an array of dishes that had not been properly cooked. Butternut squash in a vegetarian chilli, potato fondants, baby boiled potatoes and artichokes on a potato salad are all examples.

Lovely Restaurant with a cosy feeling marred only by the background music which for me was too much in the foreground. Service was attentive, efficient and friendly. The Menu covers most tastes with reasonable prices. The food was excellent and well presented. I found the wine prices extremely high.All in all, an enjoyable meal and a return visit is quite possible.

Super restaurant. The sirloin steak was fabulous. Along with the chips, pepper sauce and tomatoes. Just go you won’t regret it.

We walked into the restaurant and were blown away by the arched windows and lofty wooden ceilings, we had a very private booth with low lighting. It was very romantic! our waiter was friendly, helpful and knew his product. The food was so flavoursome and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.

Stayed at the hotel and had an evening meal included in the package. We decided to order from the main menu and were credited £22.50 towards our bill.We ordered a sharing mezze platter which had a plentiful selection. For mains I had a steak with chips and ordered peppercorn sauce and onion rings. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. For dessert I had the chocolate pudding and it was incredibly tasty.Service was excellent too. One of my favourite meals out in a while and can't wait to go back.

This is probably our favourite restaurant for a relaxed Sunday lunch on that special occasion. We opted to order off the Sunday lunch menu to celebrate my wife's birthday. The roast rib of beef, and turkey and ham dishes were delicious and very generous.On the Sunday before Christmas the dining room was full with happy diners.

Ambience, food and service 5 star! Would greatly recomend. We had incredible 3 hours pre Christmas dinner with friends. Definatelly will be back.

First and last time wining and dining at this establishment, booked a table for 4 people as a birthday suprise for my Wife even put a notice on the booking that it was a big birthday suprise as we have done for previous bookings on occassions at other restaurants etc. So on arrival all was grand we where then shown to our table for the evening. We had placed our orders starters and mains alround and 2 bottles of wine plus other drinks. The starters arrived all looked very good apart from my starter was incorrect only to be told the chef will heat up the alternative option that was available with the smoked salmon so a short time later a side plate of the correct ingredients for the starter. When the mains arrived a friend had nipped to the loo and when he had done so I asked him to check with the staff they are aware its a big birthday and has anything been aaranged aka a token gesture from the house as a thanks for choosing to spend your birthday and money in their establishment only to be told if he would like to buy a dessert they would gladly bring it to the table with a candle. Thus starts my problem at no point when the booking was made did anyone make it clear that this restaurant does not provide so much as a scoop of ice cream f.o.c to the birthday guest because god forbid a business takes a 30p hit to make a birthday guests dining experience in the place that little bit special! So at my frustration I had to further more purchase a dessert and a glass of house prossecco to ensure all went smoothly. The bill was in excess of £200 for 4 people which is fair enough however when I raised my concerns i got a phone call from the restaurant manager explaining that its not policy to give away birthday desserts as it may be abused i was however offered a £2 refund. Shocking excuse from an industry that should strive to make the experience for anyone booking a celebration event that little bit more special but clearly not here. A small token goes along way in the hospitality industry. Wont be back.

Went for an early lunch with two friends. We received a lovely welcome and had a nice table in the restaurant. Service was great throughout and we never felt rushed , just the right amount between courses. Food was very good and reasonably priced for Christmas lunch. We also enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine recommended to us. A really lovely afternoon spent with friends to start the Christmas festivities. I haven’t been in many years but will definitely return with my husband as we had our wedding reception here about 25 years and used to visit more frequently so I think we will put this back on our list to return. Thanks again to all the staff for an enjoyable afternoon!

A few of us met for lunch today and had a great experience. This was my first visit and I loved it from the moment we stepped in the door. We were met by a heartwarming fire with a Christmas tree beside it, and sat at nearby setees. The decor is contemporary, not minimalist or cluttered, just right to create a homely atmosphere.

Excellent food, friendly service and nice atmosphere . Whether with friends or children we have always enjoyed our the here . The standard of food has always been consistently good.

Just in from a late Sunday lunch in the Coq and Bull. We are locals but had never eaten here before as we are normally away at the weekend. Loved the decor of the bistro restaurant and the smartly dressed and friendly waiting staff. We decided not to order from the special Sunday lunch menu and chose from the regular a la carte one instead. Oxtail 'Lasagne' with Celeraic and Sweet Potato Fries accompanied by a glass of Beaujolais Villages attracted my wife's attention. She loved the dish. I was equally pleased with my crusted Rump of Lamb served with Champ. All the food was delicious and the portion sizes were just right. Overall the price was pretty fair for the quality of the food and standard of the surroundings. Like Arne 'we'll be back'!

Dined here as part of an overnight stay package. I will review hotel separately. Our package included a 3 course meal each from a set menu. We opted to choose off the A la Carte and were given a £22.50 each allowance.

Stunning location, nice design of a restaurant and cozy-romantic sitting-chilling areas. Food was disappointing unfortunately...but will return and give it a try again as the surroundings of the estate are simply gorgeous. Hopefully better luck with the food next time, fingers crossed 🤞

Seen photos of Coq and Bull in Facebook and it looked lovely,I knew about it but never tried it, my sisters and I decided to try it for lunch and we are so pleased we did.It is absolutely beautiful the seating and lounge area is gorgeous.The food was all delicious,we had prawn open salad and club sandwich all with chips.Staff were lovely and treated us like we ate there every week.We will definitely go back and I’m looking forward to trying their Sunday lunch.

Food is of a high quality and very tasty, but the standout aspect of this restaurant is the staff. They are extremely accomodating and very knowledgeable about the menu and what additional items or drinks should be paired with each dish. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Recent visit for Sunday lunch off the set menu. I have absolutely no complaints at all but some people in my party were disappointed with the Brie starter as it was very small. I had beef roast dinner with all the trimmings which were delicious also ordered onion rings as extra .. well worth getting. Desert was good too... and if after the meal you don’t feel like going home yet you can get a drink and sit in the foyer.

Had breakfast in here after staying over. Food was lovely, and they had a few tables pushed together for our party. Décor is fantastic too!

We are so very lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep. The staff are courteous friendly and first class. The food is simply the best! We had wine served in a frozen cylinder lastnight delicious Pinot Grigio from the stunning Northern part of Italy Venice Breads to start with fresh pesto fish and steaks yum!! The pineapple dessert was gorgeous too not forgetting to mention The Coole Swan was shaken and served to perfection nicest I’ve had so far. So thank you all for lastnight you’re simply the best better than all the rest

The food is great and Tara our servers was the best! You have to try the pork belly rib starter! And they even sang happy birthday for my brother!

We ate here on a saturday night and it was pretty busy, I'm guessing that's why it took the waiters a little longer to come round with drinks, take orders, bring the bill etc.

While staying in the hotel we are in the restaurant both nights, each night trying something different courses on the menu. We couldn't fault any of it. All delicious

The restaurant is light and airy and inviting. The menu gives plenty of choice for everyone with quality to match. The staff are attentive and friendly. I would give the restaurant a go as it's well worth trying somewhere new.

Had dinner last night - 4 of us to celebrate mother in laws 89th birthday. We had monkfish scampi and salmon and cucumber dishes to start. They were simply delicious and beautifully presented. The mains did not disappoint either. Chicken, lamb, duck and sea bass and every plate was exquisite in both quality and presentation.

The place is definitely worth a visit. It is located in an area full of grass. The restaurant is at the main entry of the hotel, very well decorated and in a building resembling an old castle. Food was quite good, although the portions were a little smaller than expected. A very nice way to spend an evening, in a settlement resembling living in a castle. Relax and enjoy

On reading other reviews I decided to bring my mum for lunch, and I wasnt disappointed. Beautiful setting, attentive staff, delicious food (we both had the open prawn sandwich) and very reasonably priced for such a top quality establishment. A real treat, and a lovely experience - one that we will definitely repeat.

the food was perfect they have wonderful wine list and the waiter was able to help us pick the right wine. the desert was amazing. the only problem we had was the tables were very close together. it felt the couple next to us could hear everthing we said. I believe they are due a renovation so thisshould help

Love love love....this says it all. Absolutely fab! Fresh local produce and reasonable prices. I would say that it's not the cheapest eats, but it was lovely. the decor is great!

We had a birthday lunch here and what a lovely lunch we had! The food was delicious. I choose the prawns on black wheaten bread. The prawns were fat and plump, the wheaten was moist and delicious accompanied by a lovely salad. Staff pleasant and helpful!. Only issue was the decaffeinated ‘Americano’ coffee. It was worse than awful.....that can easily be sorted out however. Look forward to returning soon.

What a breath of fresh air! A great menu for Fathers Day. When we were told it was a set menu we didn’t know what to expect. However we were so pleased with the selection. Has to be a highlight of our dining this year.

Excellent from start to finish. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful from the moment we arrived. Lovely extensive wine selection and great food throughout. Stunning interior and lovely feel about it. Perhaps one suggestion would be more alternatives to fish particularly in starters but that’s personal preference. The quality of the food and the way in which we were dealt with was amazing. Back next week for more. I had the breads and tapenade to start with the duck main and both were excellent. Soup had by others lovely too. Fish main and chicken curry well recommended too. A great place to visit.

Slow service, very small portions for price. Staff seem unsure of menu & slow to bring menus, coffee etc yet in your face asking if food ok. Over priced will not rush back

We’d a family birthday to celebrate and booked here after reading positive reviews. The surroundings are great, but let down by average food. Four of us had steaks, very expensive by comparison to other local restaurants, cooked as requested, but arrived barely warm. Starters were good as were the deserts, but if you look at the prices charged you’d maybe be better off trying elsewhere. I certainly won’t be back anytime soon as value for money just isn’t here.

Bangor is a strange place when eating out. Other than oriental or Indian restaurants, the choice of food at more than pub grub level is severely restricted given the size of the town.

Was usually very good when we ate here before. The steak with prawns isn't anywhere near what it used to be. The last time I was here, the prawns came skewered to the steak with a disk of garlic butter.Now they come swimming in melted butter in a small dish on the side. Food seems to have lost its edge.

It's ok. It is above moderately priced and not really anything to write home. The staff are fantastic and the restaurant just needs a chef that can bring a touch of wow factor to make fairly basic food a little bit more exciting. We had the chicken - was a tiny portion and more meat on a robin!

I have so much love for this restaurant. The food is absolutely fantastic!! Never ever had a bad meal! The atmosphere is lovely too! Service is quick and staff are great!! But the food....I cannot recommend enough. They have a great gin and cocktail menu aswell and after your meal you can chill out just off the restaurant at different and comfortable tables.

The food was nothing special, although the desserts were good. The sea food chowder was essentially a big bowl of cream with fish in it. Sickenly rich and probably about 5,000 calories.

Very pleasant experience with a good selection. Smart casual dining with high quality ingredients, well cooked and nicely presented. Cocktails were delicate and flavorful but not overpowering, and better than comparable ones at an award winning hotel in Belfast near the docks area. Somelier was very knowledgeable.

This restaurant is set in a beautiful building with a stunning Christmas tree visible through the chapel style window at one end. A host of other tasteful decorations added to the festive atmosphere. The menu offered a wide choice and there was a children’s menu. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was lovely - I had beef brisket which was delicious. A lovely evening out!

Visited the Coq & Bull for the first time in many years for a meal with friends. We had booked a table for four adults and on arrival were seated almost immediately. The reception from staff was very welcoming. The ambience of the restaurant is of very high standard & comfortable. As I said the staff were welcoming, friendly but also very polite and willing to engage with you. Very professional indeed. We were given time to make our selection and time to enjoy it. The food was tasty, fresh and presented perfectly. We all enjoyed our evening at the Coq & Bull and will be returning in the future. I would recommend this restaurant, the management should be very proud of all the staff.

My wife and I had an impromptu dinner here on Sunday past. Everything worked perfectly. We had a pleasant drink in the lolounge area, went into the restaurant and were attended to very promptly by a very pleasant young lady. Our orders taken the food came and was excellent. We both had the seafood chowder and it was wonderful with plenty of fish, prawns and mussels. Rather than a main course, we both had chosen a further starter. I had beetroot-infused smoked salmon with smoked salmon pate, again excellent. My wife was well pleased with her choice. Both of us agreed that we would return. Highly recommended and worth a visit.

We arrived on time and were greeted by Emma who was welcoming and showed us to our table. We ordered our drinks and a bottle of wine, then our starters, smoked salmon & prawns and chicory tart. Both were plentiful, nicely presented and tasted delicious. Our mains were chicken breast which was cooked to perfection and rib-eye steak cooked medium which was very tasty. We retired to the small lounge for coffee and to finish our drinks. We had a lovely evening in a very relaxed atmosphere.

We decided to go for dinner/ tea tonight on a Sunday as so few places stay open after 3pm on Sunday. Now the last time I was here for lunch I was very unimpressed but tonight was good. A nice relaxed pace of dinner where you did not feel rushed. HUGE portions which suit many, personally I like small portions so we shared the platter for starter which was incredible but we still left half of it. Other half had fish and chips which looked and tasted amazing. I had chowder for main course (it was starter sized I ordered) still huge and more than enough. Bailies coffee to finish and very small bill!!! Great service and great meal so will come again x

Have wanted to come here for a while, as I had heard great things, but never seemed to get around to it.

Had the most lovely and relaxing evening in the Coq & Bull with my Dad. As always, the food was cooked beautifully and the service was prompt and attentive. The overall ambience, soft lighting and relaxed atmosphere was what made the evening perfect 😊

The Coq & Bull is a great find in Northern Ireland - and I can only HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE - as it is a modern restaurant with great, atmospheric lighting, stylish in appearance and with an amazing menu!

When visiting a restaurant within a hotel, its often the case that you get 'hotel food' served up. This is quite the opposite. The whole experience feels more like visiting a separate restaurant, and a top-end one at that. The menu includes a good variety of ingredients and cooking styles, the cocktail and wine list is extensive, and the service is both attentive and friendly. It provided the perfect setting and content for a family get together, and I'm sure it won't be our last!

Fabulous food from all the Restaurant staff from Breakfasts to evening, meals, lovely professional and friendly staff.

We dined here four evenings in our ten day stay at the Clandeboye and of course breakfasted each morning. You would have to go a long way to find better food and service as it really is superlative. We can't really pick a favourite dish, all were made with quality ingredients, expertly cooked and the presentation was certainly 5*. The service on each occasion was of the highest order, friendly and competent. It is just a pleasure to enjoy the evening from starter to sweet. Highly recommended.
