Copper Pot Cafe in South Lakeland

One of the best places to eat breakfast and drink hot chocolate, ever! Found this place last summer and was excited to return over Easter weekend. Returned twice this past weekend as it’s so good. Tip - get there for opening or be prepared to queue in the street.

Lovely little cafe, great food and friendly staff.

Visited early morning in March 2024 and it was already busy. A really lovely little cafe, which did a gorgeous vegan breakfast (maybe less bread and more hash browns?). The atmosphere was charming and loved the old black & white film footage of Popeye, Olive & Bluto on the wall. A great find and one I'll certainly return to.

Waited to be seated and multiple members of staff were rude and acted like we shouldn’t be looking to come in for a coffee.

Visited copper pot for breakfast on our last day of our holiday in the Lake District. Beautiful, little setting with tasty, fresh food and friendly service. Kids loved the waffles and I loved my halloumi, mushrooms, sweet chilli on ciabatta.

I would give this no stars if I could. Checked in advance that the dark hot chocolate made with oat milk would be vegan. I was told it was. It was brought out and as soon as I tasted it I knew it was cow’s milk. The waitress then came back and said it had been made with dairy. I explained I had taken a sip and there was a half hearted ‘sorry about that’. She didn’t seem at all bothered when I said I had been vegan for 8 years and do not have dairy for ethical reasons. I then asked for a refund which she appeared reluctant to give as she said it was being remade. Totally unimpressed with the awful service. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE VEGAN OR HAVE A DAIRY ALLERGY.

Tasty food served quickly, from a menu with good choice and quality ingredients. Service was friendly and prompt, and the space was warm, cosy and relaxing to spend time in.

Been popping in for breakfast or lunch for years. Always high quality food, amazing coffee and the most friendly staff. One of the reasons we've been coming back to Ambleside every year for the last decade.

Discovered this hidden gem in April 2022 and found it so good that we returned twice more within the month and many more times since! The Lakeland Large 'Un full English breakfast is the best I've ever sampled, and I've had quite a few in various places over the years. It comes with everything, including an unusual take on the classic Cumberland "sausage" in the form of a chunky patty. The place itself affords inside and outside seating, is clean and uncluttered, and the staff are refreshingly polite and cannot do enough for you. They even offer cushions and blankets in case it's a little chilly outdoors. Simply the best place for breakfast in Ambleside, if not the whole Lake District!

We came across this wonderful cafe while visiting Ambleside for the day. What a wonderful find! We will definitely be returning the next time we are in Ambleside!

Lovely little cafe. Nice atmosphere and great food. Sadly, not great if you're disabled as access to toilet is challenging and it's very small. However, it's an old building with limited space so I do understand it's limitations. I still enjoyed my time there and the service was excellent 👍

Superb yet again. It's five years since our last visit to The Copper Pot. Our absence hasn't clouded our memory of this place. Lovely, friendly staff, nice selection of drinks (including special cocktails). The food is superb, had the daily special soup which was Tomato and Basil along with both versions of their loaded fries. Absolutely delicious. Please keep this place busy so it's still thriving when we next get the chance to come back.

Gorgeous cakes and tasty coffee. The outside area was perfect on a beautiful sunny Saturday. Highly recommend as a place to unwind after a wander in the lakes!

What a wonderful spot. Very welcoming staff, delicious food and surprisingly quick service given it was a bank holiday! Very accommodating of my toddler as well- one member of staff went above and beyond to help! Lovely experience.

Great Korean chicken burger, very helpful staff. Limited but varied lunch menu e.g. wild boar burger, vege n cheese ciabatta's. Very nice indoor & outdoor cafe.

We love the food, it’s very delicious. The orange and almond cake is so smooth and not too sweet.

The breakfast sausage sandwich is incredible, best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Service is quick and the setting is really nice. Payment is taken as you order which helps speed things up.

Absolutely love it here and always return when we visit to Ambleside. The safe are always friendly and accommodating and we never mind waiting a little bit for a table (even in the rain) as we know their breakfast is unmatched! My only slight issue is the no substitution policy - I asked for my black pudding to be removed and for an extra hash brown (which I assume is cheaper than a black pudding) but you’re still expected to pay full price for the breakfast plus extra for the hash brown. I can see that really annoying some people 😂. The coffee is also great and I really like that they take payment upfront so when you’re ready ti leave you’re not waiting around for the bill!

Great place to stop off for breakfast, after camping overnight nearby. Vegan options are good, we had the breakfast which was very tasty, with an oat latte. Have vegan options for lunch too, with cakes and coffee. Highly recommended - will be our stop off point now when in Ambleside.

What a great place....impromptu visit for breakfast on a Sunday morning welcomed in by great staff managed to squeeze our party of 7 in just as quite busy... breakfast choice and drinks was great and there were 7 happy customers dog friendly and even friendlier service

Went here for lunch on our lake District break, the food was delicious, the staff are really lovely make you feel very welcome. It was very hot on the day we were there, so sat in the little courtyard at the back of the cafe which was very relaxing. We will be definitely be going back there.

Staff were friendly and helpful adapting the menu to suit my dietary needs and the food was different to what I have tried before so made a nice change as well as being delicious. Good atmosphere and clean place.

Nice outdoor setting and generous portions but for me lacked flavour and breakfast options including no vegan. The dog food is dried so not freshly cooked, not worth ordering.

Great food, great service. My one and only criticism would be that £5 for the dog dinner which turned out to be kibble with a few treats thrown in was disappointing and my dog really doesn't go for it, so went to waste. If it had said kibble on the menu I wouldn't have bothered. As I say tho great for humans!

Made to wait in a rude manner. Then after waiting for over 5mins got told there was no room and it would a further 15mins. Appalling service. Got much better service elsewhere

What fantastic service and excellent food. All waiters were friendly and helpful, but the young female waitress (I’m sorry I didn’t catch the name) was particularly attentive, which was very much appreciated as I had a baby and 2 dogs in tow.

Lovely village coffee. Customer service was great, arrived 20 minutes before the closing time and we were not rushed or felt like “they were kicking us out”. This is something I have noticed at other places, for example suggesting to get the drinks in take away cups as they are closing soon. It wasn’t the case at the Copper Pot. That small detail in itself well deserves 5 starts. On another not, we sat outside on the back where they have a terrace/patio, which very well appointed with artificial flowers on the walls. Didn’t try the cakes but the food looked yummy and I think it was homemade. Will definitely go back if visiting the area in the future.

Over from France for a few weeks, I have struggled to find a really good coffee. When I mentioned this to the very helpful (and cheerful) chap who served us he suggested a flat white and I was not disappointed. My French friend chose a pot of tea and a slice of orange and almond cake. The plate appeared with two spoons cutely shaped as spades - very thoughtful as we hadn't asked but I did in fact "dig" in!! Calories are meant to be shared, after all!!! The cake was delicious and made a lovely change. We were sat outside in the sweet terrace garden and we left with a spring in our step. Highly recommended!

Good quality food, very well presented. The focus here is efficiency so you pay upfront and there are no substitutes on your dish, not so good if like me you have an allergy. Would be a five star recommendation with a bit more customer focus.

Stopped to get some breakfast, we asked for a table and the guy looked annoyed at us, he sighed and said people are before us so would be a 10 min wait, we were more than happy to wait, he then said fine but you will have to wait outside...... in the pouring rain. He might have just had a bad day but seemed visibly annoyed with us - so we left and went somewhere else.

Great spot for coffee and cake, whilst visiting ambleside. Lunch menu looked amazing and if we ever go back would definitely want to try.

Great Café. We waited outside before they opened, there was already a queue of people so we knew it was going to be good and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely decor and friendly staff. We went with my little 6 month old son, they were very accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Slightly disappointed by the cooked breakfast on offer. No sausages and only a sausage “patty” available. Also £3.50 for a small glass of orange juice seemed a bit pricey. The outside ambiance was very nice though and the service was good.

My husband and I had just arrived at Ambleside and needed somewhere to eat for lunch and came across this little gem. We had great service and got seats outside at the back which was so nice. We ordered the homemade fish finger butty which was exceptional in flavour and taste. We look forward to visiting again next time we are holidaying in Ambleside. Highly recommend.

We arrived after reading recommendations online to find a queue before opening, so glad we decided to wait. From being welcomed at the door to the moment we left everything was perfect. The staff need to be praised for their friendliness and service. Our big breakfasts and waffles were served hot and were so tasty. There are a good selection of cakes that we saw on display so might return this week to sample those! An excellent find and would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

We came here after planning on going to a tea shop but their card machine had broken and you couldn’t sit inside etc,not many staff …you name it!I googled this place..so we went,food amazing and gave us a water bowl for my dog.A great replacement after the other place.Go inside to get a disc for the car and we had one hour.Lovely place ,Staff excellent.

Staff were really friendly and attentive. Decor and layout was really nice. The food and coffee was delicious! (Shame about the weird handles on the coffee cups because it was tricky to hold..!!). The cakes were AMAZING. I had a peanut butter brownie flapjack and my husband had a Black Forest chocolate cream muffin. Sooo yummy!

So friendly, clean, food is delicious, excellent service with smiles, cakes and pastries scrumptious.... Don't pass by here go in as you won't be disappointed

We’ve been coming to the Lakes for over 30 years and have never been here before (I’m not sure why!). We had cakes and drinks and both were delicious. Lovely decor and extremely helpful and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this place!

It's normally about the cake here and there were some very tempting cakes on show. We were here for breakfast and although there was a queue when we arrived, we were soon seated in the main part of the café. There's a side room that was full and the garden is delightful but it was a little cool out.Professional young man with a tablet soon came to take our order. We knew where we were in the queue and although he explained it is always manic early on and there'd be a short wait, he didn't need to.Our quite large order was on the table 40 minutes after opening and we thought that impressive. We were kept waiting for an hour and 20 at one place in Windermere on our last visit and they didn't even speak to us.I had a breakfast roll, a sausage pattie and egg roll to be exact and it was fantastic.One of our party rated this the best of the holiday. So much competition in Ambleside, you really can't go wrong.

We went here after googling “vegan food near me” when visiting the waterfalls. The Copper Pot was one of the few selection that came up. I’m so glad we chose to eat here, the food was beautiful and the portions were huge. We both had burgers and a side of vegan cheesy garlic bread. The staff were very accommodating and really friendly. Also love this place is dog friendly.

We recently visited this restaurant and I was nicely surprised with high food quality and plenty of coffee flavours to pick. Place was clean, staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was very tasty, large portions, we were satisfied with our choices (Standard breakfast and Veggie breakfast with 2x extra hash browns for £2). Overall experience - positive! Nice place to visit again.

We visited this cafe for breakfast as we are camping nearby. Food is great - really hearty quality breakfast served by super friendly staff. Welcomed us and our dog. We will definitely return. Don’t be put off by the queue outside they are super efficient at seating and it’s worth the wait - and yet we were in no way rushed - used by locals and visitors - highly recommended !

Simply gorgeous! One of the loveliest lunches I have had for a long time. After a morning near Windermere we went into Ambleside looking for lunch and stumbled across The Copper Pot. Their loaded fries, panini and vegan chicken burgers were all amazing and was so nice to eat something a bit different too! Staff were all so so kind and made our four-legged friend feel very welcome too. Lovely outside seating area around the back which was great in the sun.Definitely will be coming back for some tea and cake before our holiday ends!

After trying to find a place that could accomodate lactose intolerance and have delcious food, we finally stumbled on this place and I am so glad that we did! They were great at letting me know what food I could swap out dairy items for dairy-free ones, and every member of staff were incredibly polite and friendly. The food was GORGEOUS and the coffee was great too. The aesthetic of the place is also beautiful. I thought it was really well decorated, and even though the bathroom is very small I loved the leaf walls and colour choice. The whole place was also great with covid regulations. Every member of staff was wearing masks, the tables had hand sanitiser on, and the shared areas (i.e. the bathroom) had lots of instructions on sanitation and covid safety. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who is going to Ambleside. 10/10 in every way!

We visited the Copper Pot Cafe twice during our stay in Ambleside, and both times we were treated to a fantastic breakfast.We were able to get a walk in table each time, with only a minor wait.The staff are friendly, and the food was excellent, with generous portions.The only downside is that there's only one toilet, which is accessed externally, which can mean queueing in the rain, however everything else was so good it doesn't warrant knocking off a point.

Realmente han hecho un gran uso del espacio en la parte trasera.Olvidé el nombre oficial pero tuve una especie de solapa Jack con ruibarbo y un glaseado, delicioso.Robin siempre estaba cerca, entrando y saliendo de la cerca de caballete y le dimos de comer algunas migajas. . . .Un baño unisex, la gente a menudo tiene que esperar.

Fuimos a almorzar y pasteles, y ambos estaban deliciosos. Aunque tuvimos que esperar un poco para conseguir un tabke, eso se debió a que valió la pena la espera y muchas otras personas pensaron lo mismo. El personal era muy amable y el servicio fue muy rápido una vez que tuvimos nuestra mesa, así que no pudimos faltarles en absoluto. Definitivamente uno al que volver.

Una vez que terminamos, estábamos llenos pero tentados por los pasteles, así que decidimos llevarnos un trozo a casa, ¡el tamaño de las porciones era muy generoso! Soy un investigador ávido y me resultó difícil encontrar buenos lugares para desayunar en esta área.Visitamos el Copper Pot después de leer todas las demás críticas y no nos decepcionó. Esto fue en una linda calle lateral, con una decoración interesante, excelente servicio y maravillosos desayunos.El café era excelente y la comida aún mejor.Si planeas desayunar afuera para comenzar tu día, no busques más. Este lugar es una joya.¡Definitivamente regresaremos para tomar un café y pastel y también almorzar!

Desayuno en The Copper Pot, Ambleside. Pequeño café encantador escondido en una pequeña calle secundaria. El personal es encantador, los amantes de la comida deliciosos. Mi esposo tenía chiabata completamente cargada y yo tenía las empanadas de salchicha una. El pan ligero encantador y el contenido eran horribles. Definitivamente recomendaría sentarse en el jardín si es un día seco.

Tropecé con la olla de cobre por casualidad cuando estaba fuera de la calle principal, en una calle lateral.Tenía un desayuno inglés absolutamente magnífico, ¡de primera categoría!La limpieza entre sesiones fue excelente y se sintió muy seguro.Dos veces más para café y pastel, luego hicimos un desvío en nuestro largo viaje de regreso a Margate para participar en otro inglés completo para sostenernos durante el viaje. Excelente personal, tan eficiente y amigable.Definitivamente lo recomendaría y definitivamente regresaremos cuando tengamos las próximas vacaciones en los lagos.

Copperpot is my favourite cafe in Cumbria...maybe the world? The staff are always amazing including the one with red/purple hair who is chatty and fun with customers even when rushed. The Copperpot crew do an amazing job serving beautifully presented and tasty food along with speedy, friendly service - well done to the whole team particularly post lockdown when it’s been so busy and a lot of new procedures to think about - Anna, Matt, Holly, David, Lisa and everyone keep doing what you are doing!

Unfortunately one particular waitress with red/purple hair made us feel unwelcome and rushed. Other customers didn’t have the same experience. However, we felt this was due to the fact we were a group of girls in our early 20’s.

I can see why they have so many five star reviews!The food was lovely and the lady who served us was really friendly. We queued outside for a little while but it was worth it. The food was fresh and good quality. I can recommend the chocolate and hazelnut cake. My husband had the apple pie for dessert and got a slice to takeaway too as it was that good.

We came here for lunch and had a very pleasing experience. On arrival we had to queue for a short time as there were only six tables, but it was worth the wait. We were seated inside at a good distance from others, and the staff who served us both wore face masks. The service was very good, friendly and warm. The wild boar burger was absolutely delicious and nicely presented. Would highly recommend and will definitely go back. Thanks for a great lunch!

Attentive, friendly cafe environment to dine in. We had a table outside which was utterly charming in the courtyard at the back of the cafe. Food was delicious, veggie option for me was fabulous and OH had the big fried breakfast which he tells me was the best breakfast so far in Ambleside. My daughter had the brioche which was superbly presented.

If you are in the area don't miss out on a trip here. Vegetarian meals to die for and if that is not your thing try the wild boar burger
