Confucius in Medway

Cannot believe this is 4.5 stars... The lady owner is lovely.. her staff were rude, made me pay up front because I was eating alone... it made me feel like some kind of criminal. and the food was way below average... I can cook better Chinese food at home! Not only that I wasn't allowed the buffet option and a la carte with crispy duck and two mains and two sides came to £65.... For one person.... Rip off. The food was so bad I didn't bother taking the little bit of leftovers away. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

We have been to this restaurant many times as a couple, we even had our first dinner date here back in 2012 and been back for dinner dates a lot since. So back to last night. We went for date night to confuscious which is one or our go to’s. Also I’ve never reviewed this restaurant before as never felt the need We’ve always enjoyed our experience here but this time I feel any prospective diner would want to know about our experience. Firstly I want to say that the food, the service and the girls who are waiting tables are as always excellent. This review is purely to speak up about the ambience, the experience and how the changes made us feel. So we sit down at our table which is covered in a disposable paper tablecloth (last visit was a proper tablecloth). There is no chopsticks nor was any offered. A bottle of wine was ordered, delivered to table with no cooler. Starters were ordered and next thing plates were put out on our table to eat from. Now, I honestly was shocked that these plates were melamine plates! Something a child would have their dinner on to avoid smashed china. I said so to my husband and the table next to us chimed in to say they had said the same thing. So odd. There was a few dishes that were bought out on china plates and some on the melamine plates. The reason why I feel moved to write this is because it just felt like eating in a greasy spoon, a good one at that! If I had been trying to impress a date this certainly was not it. Our bill was almost £72 and it was certainly not the romantic date nights we had experienced here before. To be honest this has put us off on returning but we probably will as the food and service is so good. We will just have to lower our expectations.

I was here for my 60th with my family. The food was really great. The starters were so scrummy especially the satays and ribs. Honestly could of had the starters again and again. Drinks were really expensive, £7 for 500ml beer and over £4 for a pint coke. They do try to keep pushing you for drinks and get slightly miffed when you do not order.

Brilliant evening, food was plentiful and good quality. The staff were efficient and with a great sense of humour, they made the evening more entertaining. We sat down at 19.00 and didn’t leave till 21.30. 4 courses (plus soup if wanted). We hadn’t been here for at least 4 years, I was concerned in case our, consistent, previous visits, would not be lived up to…..this was groundless. I highly recommend this place.

We have eaten here on several occasions in the past and have always had a great experience . However on this occasion both the Service and the Food were lacking . Our Waitress was not very Fluent in English and we had trouble understanding her . Communicating what we wanted was a Challenge . The Menu , which is quite Long contained Dishes that were not available and it seemed that whatever we wanted to order , it was not available . When we did get our Meals they were not as we remembered but quite bland and tasteless . I think that this is our last time visiting this Restaurant

AmazIng little place excellent food great service and always a joy to visit been coming here for over 10 years and the food as is good now as it was back then.

Have been to Confucius several times for dinner and it is always great. You pick your starters and second course first. Then once finished, it's onto the mains. The very friendly and attentive staff come back to see if you would like more of that course. For starters, we had the Sesame Prawn Toast, Crispy Seaweed, Barbecued Spare Ribs and Chicken Satay Skewers. For second course, we had the Mongolian Lamb with Garlic Sauce and the Crispy Aromatic Duck with Pancakes. For mains, it was the Crispy Chilli Beef Peking Style, Kings Prawns with Garlic & Peppercorn, Singapore Rice Vermicelli Noodles and Special Fried Rice. The food was absolutely fantastic and at £21.90 per head, good value for money. A must visit if you like Chinese cuisine.

We booked a table a week ago as we know it’s very popular and busy. The service is excellent the staff are excellent. The food is the best around and they do take away now. Such excellent value for money. Some of our party had never been there before and throughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning. Big thank you to all your staff who never stopped working hard all night.

Absolutely fantastic service as well. We visit every year on my birthday and regularly get food delivered throughout the year. We are Asian too so you can trust me when I say this food is great! Any negative review is a drama queen or has got this confused with another restaurant under the same name. Great value for money and always have a nice time with the staff, when we have as a 3 or in a group of 10+. Would always recommend!

Many thanks for delivering such a wonderful birthday meal for my wife and friends and family organised by my sister in law. Wonderful variety of dishes and fun and friendly service. Loved the sea spicy aubergine in particular as well as the Mongolian lamb. Thank you again.

Had a fantastic night here. The staff were attentive, super friendly and the food was delicious, hot and soooo tasty. They even cooked chicken nuggets and chips for our 3 year old. Thank you ladies for a great evening, we’ll certainly be back.

Just had lunch here with my girlfriend the food was disgusting was just bone and gristle on ever course we ate not that we had a lot the staff was very rude especially 1 member of staff and had the cheek to still charge us 50 pound please do not eat here it’s absolutely horrible me and my partner spent the rest of the afternoon on the toilet

We came to celebrate our son's birthday as a family group of 10. The food was excellent and fresh, I was surprised that my throat and mouth weren't dry after the buffet style meal. The ambiance was perfect. Definitely recommend

This evening myself & my husband visited the restaurant we have lived in the area for many years and had no idea this fabulous gem of restaurant was here. Amazing friendly family run restaurant, giving the most warmest of welcomes, and as for the food it is out of this world, especially the black bean sauce. Went to Confucius tonight with family for son's birthday. Again, consistently fabulous food, great hosts and weren't disappointed. Felt very safe in current COVID situation. Everything was spot on, run by lovely people. Will be back soon and would really recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good alround experience.

So good to be back! Forever a warm welcoming at the door, excellent hot, fresh food and fabulous service as always. Team were actively following covid procedures, ensuring masks were worn, hands sanitised and temperatures were checked on arrived. 10/10 all round.

Authentic Chinese restaurant with excellent service and superb food, fantastic COVID processes to ensure the safety of diners, and made the birthday celebration complete. Thoroughly recommend and look forward to returning again.

Tonight was our first time in since lockdown. The owners were wonderful. Temp checks, hand sanitizer and all tables were distanced. Staff wore face masks at all times. I felt very at ease and made the evening very pleasurable. The food was lovely as always.Thank you for a wonderful evening

All you can eat but freshly cooked to order, large range of dishes and if you want more of the same dish just ask!

First impressions you might think ummm I hope the foods better, well never judge a book by its cover because the great news is, it absolutely is, we were a group of 6 I’m not sure the minimum I think it’s 4 people whereby you can basically choose what you want for starters, mid-meal(duck etc) then the main part, if for example for starters you love your dish you can have another then another etc etc. I love green lipped muscles they do x3 types here they are fab I must of had 21 as they come out x3 at a time so there’s no waste. Don’t get me wrong it’s not cheap but if you love your Chinese and appreciate delicious food, this is the place, the staff are also very accommodating

This was our first time to these Chinese in many years and my husband and l were very impressed. We had the set menu for £17.90 each, that includes starters, second course, mains and dessert, and the amount of food we had was amazing. The starters were to die for, and the rest of the meal was just as good. The staff were the most helpful and pleasant l have had in a restaurant for a long time. It was just my husband and l, and on the table next to us were another couple, the rest were mainly groups but because we were in a table by the window we didn't feel overwhelmed by the larger groups. We didn't have wine but my husband had 3 beers which were normal pub prices. We will definitely be going back soon.

Me and my friends went to Confucius and it was the Chinese New Year celebrating the year of the rat. The food was plentiful and really nice, we played funny games and won prizes - had a raffle, a quiz, competitions - everything!! Jenny and all the staff were so accommodating and friendly. It was a hilarious night and we all enjoyed it.

This place deserves 10 stars. You will not find a better Chinese than Confucius. I have been to this place a number of times and will return a lot more. This is the starter platter. You can choose whatever you want for the set price and they always ask if you want more. The service is the other brilliant thing about this place such a lovely family feeling to the restaurant. If you haven't tried this place before then I recommend you give it a try.

Lovely evening here with friends. Party of 4 all left happy and full up! Food was lovely, the way you order anything from the menu for a set price means you try dishes you may not have usually ordered. Staff very friendly, service good. We’ll be going back.

Arrived to a warm welcome we were a party of 8. Food excellent hot and plentiful nothing too much trouble excellent customer service very nice ambience very warm. Clean toilets value for money. You must try excellent food.

What a brilliant time we had! It doesn’t look all that from outside, old and tired decor, but don’t let that put you off! The food was fantastic, piping hot and made fresh to order. The lovely lady was very efficient and made our fussy diner feel comfortable and able to ask for separate dishes. For an allYou can eat restaurant they are top notch, no complaints about the quality of food either. I would highly recommend a visit and you will want to go back.

I went to Confucius tonight as a weekday treat. We had just had the starter and my boyfriend suddenly became really ill and sick. We had to leave quickly and was still charged for having 2 full meals and drinks despite only having the starter. I rang up and complained and Confucius were un sympathetic of the situation despite the fact it may of been their food that caused the sickness. They were happy to take £45 for a starter for 2 even though as said before we hadn’t had any of the other courses. Think this will be one for environmental health!

Friendly and jokey staff. Unusual for Chinese restaurant staff to know how to communicate as well as this. Helps to make a nice enjoyable atmosphere. A nicely delivered service.

We visit Confucius every 3 or 4 months and, usually, the service and food are very good. However on this occasion, there were 2 other parties of people - one with about 15 and the other had about 8 people. We were put in a corner and largely forgotten about. The portions we received were smaller than usual and the service to us was slow. Whilst we appreciate that larger groups of people will be prioritiresed over 2 or 3 people, they would have known that the larger groups would have been there that night and staffed the restaurant accordingly. There were only 3 waitresses/waiters with 1 of those not being present all of the time we were there.

I have been here many times and have never had any problems, but tonight was just appalling! So to start of with we ordered 2 diet cokes and 1 normal coke, all large. The boy approached us with the drinks and then walk away and went back to the bar (guessing he forgot which was which). He then come back to the table with 3 small glasses, so he then went back to the bar and corrected our drinks. Our food order was taken, no issues at all! The food then started to be brought to our table and then all of a sudden my friend was hit by a tidal wave of coke. The waiter knocked a coke all over my friend, leaving her soaking wet. She then stood up from the table whilst the staff “dried the table”. The table was left wet and in a mess and not once did we have an offer to change tables. Very disappointed, they did give us 1 meal free, but just a shame how they dealt with the situation at the time

Booked a rare night out with my husband,the seats we got given was a small table in the back room next to the toilet door and the kitchen so constant movement wasn't relaxing at all. Decor wasnt nice. That table shouldn't be there. We asked to get moved but there was no room. The food is highly rated by us but we didn't eat here in the end. We ordered drinks but they took ages so we left. They wasnt happy with this but our drinks were sat on the bar.

Had a wonderful meal for two in this restaurant..it's buffet style eat all you want but instead of going up & helping yourselves it is waiter service..the meal is three courses & was beautifully cooked nice & hot & just the right amount of seasoning..

What a find! Been looking for a decent Chinese in Medway for years, having had the luxury of eating out in London after work during the week, I couldn't find anything as good until I found Confucius! Great food, service and ambience. The owners who serve you are helpful and totally un-pushy. You could choose the A la carte but they advise you to go for the "buffet" style menu which is amazing and you get to try so much.

We have been in here a few times, we love Chinese food, and we think this is the best in the area. We even like our takeaway from here. The food and the service is very good. We love the appitisers and the duck in hoisin.

It’s a real shame to have been coming here for some time and then get treated this way.

We visited on a busy Saturday night, and it was packed as you would expect for such a popular place.

I called to book a last minute table and we were offered last table by the bar...the table was in a perfect position. When you walk inside off of Chatham street you enter another world away from the outside! We were greeted by the most friendliest staff that explained how their menu worked and when it came to ordering they told us the must haves to order. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious and the food just kept on coming! As it’s an all you can eat menu (very reasonably priced) the restaurant was very generous and you can order starters anytime through out the meal! The staff had time to talk to us and we were made very welcome. Would highly recommend this place.

Great place to eat, food plentiful and tasty. Staff attentive and not pushy. I have now been three times and every time was good. Would have no problems in going again.

Second visit just as good as the first. Choose as many dishes as you like from the special menu. We had chicken satay, ribs, duck pancakes, Kung pho chicken, Thai chicken, king prawns in ginger with rice and noodles. It was great 👍

Been coming here for about 20 years. Moved out of the area but decided to come here with our children for a family birthday. The staff are very attentive, polite, helpful and very child friendly. Food was as ever just delicious! Very good value for money too.

On recommendation our Lunch Club visited Confucius for the first time and we can't speak highly enough about it. We had the set lunch menu which was extensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Extremely good value and we will definitely return at some time in the future.

I used to go to this restaurant quite a lot many years ago but moved away from the area and hadn't been for a long time. The food had always been excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Yesterday I went with a friend and his daughter for lunch. We arrived at a little past 1 o'clock and asked for a table for 3 - the very first thing that the waitress said was "we close at 2". I checked my watch to see what time it was and said that we would need to eat quickly then - the place was empty, we were the only customers there. We sat down and all the time we were there we kept being told that the kitchen closes at 2. They didn't make any effort to make us feel comfortable or welcome and it came across very strongly that they didn't really want us there. If this is how they treat customers I'm surprised that they are still in business.

For Chinese New Year, fourteen of us visited Confucious in Chatham and enjoyed a most delicious meal. This restaurant charges a set price and offers a four course meal, Starter, Second Course, Main Course and finally desert, on the basis of eat as much as you can for the set price. It is not a buffet style venue, the delightful waitress takes your order for each course and serves you at the table with piping hot freshly cooked Chinese cuisine.

Can't fault a thing great food lovley decor excellent service .Will keep returning as this is a perfect group night out as well as couples meal night , just love the ambience . If you haven't been here it's a must !

What a great night we had, it was a set price for the meal plus drinks,it was the year of the PIG, they had dancers doing the fan dance, and also the great dragon dancing to the beating of the drum,a great atmosphere.there were competitions and every one was given a raffle ticket and a lottery ticket for Saturday 9th of February draw.everyone took home a chinese new year pig for good luck for the year

Myself and family go to this restaurant quite abit and love it. Great food and fabulous staff. They made New Years a great night handing out drink, party poppers, streamers and so on.

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant around. We have been going 30 years and it still is truly amazing. You know you’re in a good restaurant when the Chinese community and dignitaries eat here too.

Took my daughter and friends here for her birthday meal and from the time we arrived the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The restaurant was very busy but we still had good service and great food. Will definitely visit again!

I have been coming to Confucius for about five years now to either get take-away or for sit down meal, Confucius is better for the sit down meal as you can’t beat that level of service and food is better when it’s freshly prepared and not put in containers before it’s delivered. There are plenty of choice when it comes to Chinese food in Chatham but having had take-aways from most restaurants, Confucius is far best aswell as Tang’s in Chatham, both these restaurants are spot on fresh and well cooked Chinese food, both have their own specialty, I would say these restaurants have a Soho quality, so if you enjoy visiting China town for good quality Chinese food then you would love either both of these restaurants. But Confucius is probably my favourite.

We wanted to go out for a meal with our friends before Christmas and they recommended Confucius. It had been a number of years since I had been and remembered it being good food.

Yet another great visit. Excellent hot tasty food and as always the staff are so welcoming. Efficient, polite and just so personable. Excellent value for money as well.

Came here on a friends recommendation for the first time Sat 6th October. The place full to the brim with 3 Birthday parties also taking place . The atmosphere was great and the service from this family run business was the best we have had anywhere. There were people eating here who had been coming here for 3 generations and that's because you are treated like family. The food was good and a reasonable price. despite being full the service was prompt. Will be coming back again.
