What a find!! Did a Google search for a dog friendly cafe around Penarth. This came up so thought we would try it! Excellent food, really tasty, great value with friendly staff. Our first visit but definitely not our last.

We visited Penarth from Toronto, Canada. We were walking down in the marina and decided to try this lovely cafe. It is a smaller space but they had good amount of room for the 4 adults plus a toddler. The server was very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. Three of us had the breakfast with the most delicious sausage. The other order was the salmon scramble which was gorgeously plated with vine tomatoes. Blown away by the meal! Also the coffee was the best we had on our trip! Wish we had time to go again but we are headed now for London. We hope to come again!

On recommendation of a friend of mine we visited the Galley. Good breakfast, great for children too. Small and quaint. Good location.

Staying in Cardiff for a night and we wanted to find somewhere near the bay for a decent breakfast. Found The Galley from an internet search and what a find!. Breakfast was amazing, beautifully cooked, plentiful and also had options other than just a fry up with burritos and eggs Hebridean which was like eggs Benedict but with black pudding instead of ham/bacon and it was delicious. A couple of customer parking spaces but a pay and display just up the road, small amount of seating inside and out and right on a pretty marina to walk around after breakfast, would definitely recommend.

Possibly the most pee-poor goats cheese salad I have ever had! A rip-off. Hardly any goats cheese...hardly any of anything for nearly 10 squid! Service was pee-poor too! Not enough staff looking after the outside diners. Sat outside for ages with panting dogs needing water after I'd requested a replenished dog water bowl on arrival (a bowl that was already there) and then taking the order took ages, and the water more time. I will always try and support independent places but these guys need to get their priorities/ training right. Its not like they are cheap. The cafe is crammed with as many tables as it can hold without being a fire hazard. I saw other people go inside and get their orders in and all be served well before us

This place is a gem! Lovely friendly staff and a menu that suits our whole family of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. Everything we've tried has been fresh and delicious with very fresh-tasting ingredients and fab local bread.

Walked from Cardiff Bay to Penarth with my wife and grand daughter and came across "The Galley". We all had a drink and something to eat. The Galley is a very smart Café with very friendly staff and excellent food and service and prices. We all enjoyed the various food and drinks that we had. We then walked back to Cardiff Bay talking along the way about how good the café was. If you are on a visit to Penarth or ever walk from Cardiff Bay to Penarth, you must stop at the Galley.

Great food and service, just the best you can get with local produce and a smile from the owners. Just go there, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Great little place, with very friendly staff and delicious food. Always get a service with a smile. Even though it's a really small place we did manage to get a table. I had a minted chicken wrap which was amazing. I would actually give this more 4.5 than a 4 (if I could), with the only slight disappointment being they have removed jacket potato from the menu. I would definitely recommend this for lunch or a coffee.

Just moved to the marina and thought I’d have a light breakfast and a drink. Saw that there was a vege breakfast so went for that. I must say, this is the freshest egg I’ve seen in years, everything else well cooked and staff friendly. Will definitely be coming back! I’m

I had the goats cheese salad. As a side dish or starter it would have been a reasonable portion but as a main dish at £9.40 it was very short on both goats cheese and salad!

Popped in to grab some food and a lovely coffee while the Cardiff half marathon runners were running past. It's a lovely place with a great atmosphere and everything is served with a smile. I always enjoy popping in.

Had an impromptu brunch here with my partner and it was a very enjoyable experience.The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.I had a cooked breakfast and it definitely provided me with a delightful start to my day.The only issue is, as it is a small building you are fighting over tables on a busy day. Have to say that it is worth it though.

This place is only small, but it is punching way above its weight. We stopped for a morning coffee. Fantastic range of cakes and the coffee itself was top quality. None of that insipid latte that the big chains serve here! The staff were friendly and helpful too. Full marks!

Without fail i visit this coffee shop every morning, the staff are accommodating friendly and honestly brighten up my mornings! The coffee here is also really really good, and the food is exceptional. Whenever my parents are down they always request to come to The Galley because "the breakfast is out of this world." Id recommend anyone to come here because quite frankly its lush. Best place in Cardiff for sure.

A small but delightful coffee shop situated adjacent to Penarth Marina, and within very close walking distance of Cardiff Bay Barrage. It offers a wide range of coffee, tea & wine. Menu offers reasonably priced varied food options and serves throughout the day. Quality of coffee is fantastic and can be purchased to take home in either bean or ground selections. Customer service is excellent and staff is genuinely friendly. Outdoor seating available and very dog friendly.Limited car space adjacent to business. Recommended to park in available parking areas surrounding the shop and walk as business can be quite busy at times.Free WiFi.Highly recommended!

Wow amazing food and large portion sizes. Kids had pancakes which they loved and I had a tasty salad. All the food is fresh and locally sourced. You could pop in for coffee and cake or a full meal. It also serves wine which would be lovely to pop in on a walk using the outdoor terrace. It is situated on the Marina.

I never thought a meat free breakfast would become one of my favourite breakfasts ever but The Galley’s Purple Reign was perfection on a plate. If you’re in the area - I totally recommend!

Had breakfast yesterday with my family, I had the breakfast burrito and it was delicious, the coffee was great and good service. My son had the pancakes and loved them, it was reasonably priced, would definitely call again when in the area.

Popped in on Saturday for a late lunch. Very nice improvement works since our last visit especially bifolding doors to the terrace. Great service, resonable prices in a comfortable setting. We will return.

Stopped whilst visiting the marina for lunch and wowed by food and superb service today . I thought we had ordered the goats cheese and chicken salad but my husband thinks he forgot to mention the vital goats cheese and just ordered the chicken salad . When it was served I mentioned that I thought it came with goats cheese and immediately a side of goats cheese at no charge was given .

Fantastic cafe set in the beautiful surroundings of Penarth marina. Breakfast is served using all local produce. It was presented beautifully. Staff are really friendly. It’s a pleasure to visit. Will definitely call again

Enjoyed lunch here. Managed to get a car parking space right outside. My partner enjoyed a warm chicken roll and then we both enjoyed the Beth’s Bakes brownies. We enjoyed the brownies so much, we bought more to take with us! Looking forward to returning especially with the restaurant expanding upstairs. Lovely staff who make you feel welcome.

We walked from Mermaid Quay a cross the barrage about 2 miles and stopped here for lunch. It was warm enough to sit outside next to the marina and enjoy a light lunch with coffee, both of which were excellent. A good place to stop if doing the walk right round the bay.

I have just visited the galley in penarth marina and I have to say I was so impressed. I had the breakfast brunch and it was cooked to perfection. Lovely bread, good quality bacon and sausage and egg cooked on both sides!! The staff were so helpful and friendly and it was nice to be able to buy brownies and blondes from Beth’s bakes as they are gorgeous!

Stopped here briefly for a coffee. Really friendly,great coffee (local Fat Dragon) and luscious cakes. Highly recommended.

Good service yesterday as always. Captains breakfast is very good. Good quality. Option of granary toast and the always use a decent sausage and thick bacon. The only downside is the door keeps blowing open. They could fit a door closer.

Very difficult to find anywhere that cooks food with passion these days. These guys have got it, the service was excellent also. Food cooked and presented beautifully - well done.

Stumbled upon this cafe and have now been back many times. The food is always cooked to order and the menu offers a good choice of meals from cupcakes to full fat-boy breakfasts, lunch menu and even tapas some evenings. The staff are so welcoming and when the weather is nice the patio is great before you work it all off walking across the barrage.

My parents had heard of this cafe, so when I was down in Penarth decided to take them there. It is in an excellent position, we sat outside for breakfast.

I called in here a while back during a walk and took some cupcakes with me. They were delicious so decided to come back today. I had the peanut butter and jelly cupcake and an iced latte. Both were really nice. The staff were very friendly. Really big selection of unusual cake flavours so hard to pick one .

Went for coffee and cake, ended up having stunning bacon and egg sandwich, really good quality bacon. My girls both had make your own breakfast and said the sausage was quality. Had to make room for the Cronuts as they are stunning. This is my second visit and will definitely be back

A good spot for breakfast/ lunch near Penarth Quays Marina inside and outside tables. Breakfasts are vertpy good, a plateful of food and the bacon and sausage sandwiches are made with real thick cut bread and are excellent. Recommended.

Popped in for a quick brunch. Service was excellent, food was amazing! How about that for a bacon sandwich?! My son is super fussy but he demolished it! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff - will definitely be back!

I visited yesterday with my husband for a coffee. As we’d already eaten we didn’t plan on having food, but saw the Cronuts and decided we’d share one as we wanted to give them a go!

Called in before a stroll over the Barrage. We chose to sit outside as we had our dog, but we were informed that he was welcome inside if we wanted. I had the Bacon sandwich and hubby had poached egg on toast with added beans. We both chose brown bread and it was delicious and think. My bacon was lovely thick good quality bacon. Hubby enjoyed his to. Will definitely call in again on another visit. Service was great. Marcus was very friendly. Great place. Cakes look delicious also.

Breakfast in this little cafe by the marina is a little gem and well worth a visit. All fresh produce, great coffee, smiling friendly staff. We'll be back.

We were recommended this small, unassuming coffee shop by work colleagues. It was an added bonus because it is dog friendly so we weren’t forced to sit outside in the cold like we normally are. We were greeted with a lovely smile and it was an extremely friendly atmosphere. My husband and I both had cooked breakfasts and the quality of the bacon and sausage especially was gorgeous - and locally sourced. Probably the best we’ve tasted in a long time. My mocha was really impressive too. The cakes looked amazing but unfortunately no room for afters on this occasion. Oops we’ll have to return - probably for numerous visits - with our 4 legged, loyal companion. Prices are reasonable and location is perfect. We walked off our brekkie with a brisk stroll around Cardiff Barrage and Cardiff Bay. A perfect Sunday morning date.

I am lucky to live just around the corner from Compass Coffee so am often in here either with my mum or by myself. I always feel extremely comfortable and welcome in here, even when I am by myself, due to the cafes cosy ambience and extremely lovely staff who are always friendly. The food is always fresh and beautiful both in taste and presentation. I would recommend this place to everyone I know and I love that I live so close so that I can visit as often as I like!!

I have been to this cafe several times now and love it. The food is delicious, the prices are fair and the staff are fantastic. The drinks are lovely and as a coffee fan I can easily say that you will be hard pressed to find a better cuppa in Penarth.

Given its very small floor space, and when busy, difficulty moving about, patrons are still expected to hoof up to the counter to give their order to one of the several staff hanging about the till area. Whatever happened to table service in small busy cafes? To compound the situation, arriving a few minutes late meant that we could not eat from the breakfast menu. Not very customer focussed and so we took our custom elsewhere. A dissappointment all the same, given that we walked around the marina looking forward to calling in here.

What a great find! Spotted it on a cold Sunday morning when exploring the marina, suitable for all tastes and ages from my 81 year old mother to my vegetarian daughter in law. Highly recommended, friendly, efficient helpful staff. Deservedly a winner in the local food awards.

We just moved to Cardiff and visited Compass Café twice now. I am telling you that was the best quality food and service I have received in a long time in GB. Wales is very underrated. This Café is a true hidden treasure and real gem to Cardiff - Penarth. You do not have to break our pocket to get friendly staff, a well presented great cup of coffee and the quality of ingredients used in their meal. Those delicious sausages, I have never tasted that type of sausage before and it was the star ingredient of your breakfast. Now that I have eaten at Compass Café I will not go anyway else to eat breakfast. Definitely going to become my breakfast café and the views are exceptional. Its like hitting a jackpot. Great views, Great staff, Great food, Great atmosphere. A true gem and compliment to Wales and the Welsh people. Thank You

First time here although the wife had been before. Had a late lunch, Brunch for me and the wife had a sandwich along with some coffees.Food was lovely as was the coffee. Service was excellent. We sat outside as weather was nice so could watch the Marina guys working and moving boats. Menu looked really nice so no hesitation returning in future.

Visited Compass Coffee Penarth Marine today we ordered coffee and two bacon sandwiches I must say they are the best bacon sandwiches I have had in a long time, plenty of bacon in lovely thick bakery bread thoroughly enjoyed it also the staff very polite and helpful and as was the service. will be visiting this place again.

If I go out for breakfast, it's always Compass. The food is freshly cooked from well know good quality suppliers and always served by lovely staff. Would highly recommend ... shooting myself in the foot by writing this as becoming more and more and more popular!! But the boys deserve it!!

Always use this cafe, staff are extremely polite and helpful, and the food is exceptional.If there is a wait on food during busy periods you are informed on arrival, and its always worth the wait!Superb location, food and staff, highly recommended.

Beautifully situated and potential gold mine. Have been quite a few times. When it is quiet it is fine and staff are helpful. Unfortunately when busy, the service suffers and can be quite slow and forgetful. Ordered breakfast recently when friends visited from overseas and took over an hour for the meal to arrive. This month ordered a coffee and cake , gave up waiting for a fork and had to repeatedly ask for the tap water. Not great.

We had a "north" breakfast and a "south" breakfast. Both fry ups that were very nice and were not greasy. Very nice place and lovely staff. Will definitely make this a must so when we visit cardiff next!

This is a really lovely little cafe. I ordered a jacket potato with chicken and the portion size was really big, and it was delicious.Staff are also extremely friendly and can't do enough for you. The place is dog friendly which makes this a really good place to come while on a walk with the dogs! Location is perfect to break up a long walk with a nice coffee and something to eat.

We had a rare day off so decided to go out for breakfast- I love this little cafe, clean , modern , tidy & friendly. On a nice day you can sit outside which is a lovely addition. The menu is extensive, especially for breakfast & they seem to cater for everyone. I opted for a 'west' breakfast & it was delicious! Next time will try the veggie & will bring my little girl for pancakes. Coffee is so good too & I am fussy about that! All in all, it's the best in Penarth. Looking forward to my next day off !

After a night on our boat, it's lovely to know that just a few steps away we can have a high quality traditional breakfast at The Compass. Very good food!
