I absolutely love the vibe at the hub, a great community run cafe which spacious, very welcoming and with friendly staff in the cafe & the hub itself. I have eaten at the hub several times for lunch, service is always of high professional standard, with a great selection of cakes and scones, including vegan & gluten free choices- meals are delicious, well presented and again a great selection of dishes on offer daily which always includes a vegetarian option- lovely for when you have just finished a yoga class which are held upstairs in the hub- The hub also run cuisine themed evenings from tapas to greek food, with local musicians popping into the cafe to provide entertainment on occasions- i hear nothing but great things about the Sunday roasts also- again with a vegetarian option is always available. The hub is a gem of a place run by good people who are passionate about the hub & their community :)

Popped in for a coffee and cake and couldn't be more pleased. What a genuine little spot, the staff are friendly and helpful. I got a cappuccino and I'm no coffee snob but it was delicious. Warmed the soul. This café really seems like this place is for genuine people who enjoy the warmer side of life! It's down-to-earth and cozy with no room for pompous people who need silver spoons and golden plates. Definitely will be coming here again! Might bring a book next time and just sit out in the sunshine with a delicious cuppa. 😍

We passed through on our way to visit Samye Ling and were welcomed warmly by the staff and volunteers. The place was immaculate - this is the heart of a community that genuinely cares about its visitors - and we felt like nothing was too much trouble. We are vegetarians and the options were delicious. We are planning a cycling tour next May and this little gem in the heart of a unique part of Scotland is definitely for a revisit. Thank you from us 🤗

We had a six day stay in Eskdalemuir in August, staying at the fabulous Dark Skies Pod up a winding trail in the Pine forest. The Hub certainly was a true highlight of our holiday! After driving for hours we had a warm welcome from Lara who was keen to help us make the most of our stay and share ideas of what might be of interest in the local area and info about how to get there etc. The cafe was a very welcoming environment with a great selection of hot and cold food. The home made vegetarian curry was a hit with my teenager, the quiche was also lush and for me the soft malted fresh bread with good servings of cheese and tasty ham and freshly made coleslaw made for a really enjoyable sandwich (had to have same again the next day!) the bonus was the invitation to top up our plates from the fresh salad bar which was great! Some of the team are volunteers who give their time to support the community and they were all so happy to share ideas about how to make the most of our holiday. There is a car park just across the road which made life easy. The toilets were clean. The rear area had fab outdoor seating with lovely views of the countryside and a cheeky peacock! Love this place and the friendly team of staff and volunteers! We will be back next year and will certainly stay for a roast dinner and I hope the courgette and lime cake is on the menu as it was divine! Thank you 😊

Visited with some old friends for a spot of lunch. The staff were friendly and polite. It was quite busy with what looked like some local folk and visitors and was nice to see people chatting and enjoying themselves. The place was clean and tidy. The menu choice was great for somewhere in the middle of nowhere...a real oasis! We had a selection of food from homemade soup & quiche..all was delicious, the salad bar is a fabulous idea and very generous. We finished with coffee, (which was a great cuppa) but too full for cake. My friend did take a slice of fruit cake home and later told me it was lovely. Well done to all for making this community run hub & cafe a lovely spot to meet and we wish you every success.

I visited this place with my wife a few weeks ago after reading positive reviews and recommendations from a local person. It was after lunch time, we were hungry and were looking forward to some wholesome home-cooked food. On arrival we we surprised that the building was quite large and appeared to be a community centre, not just a cafe. The car park was full so it was awkward squeezing a large car into a small unmarked corner on soft ground covered in gravel next to their septic tank. We were having second thoughts at this stage. On walking into the restaurant area, we were greeted with the smell of burning (old) cooking oil and burnt food. This put us both off immediately. We approached the serving hatch where the kitchen was located and my wife and I were shocked to see that this area was messy, untidy, disorganised and full of microwaves! The staff were very friendly and well mannered but none of them had kitchen whites or any type of uniforms whatsoever. We wondered whether any of them had any formal training or even a hygiene certificate? We almost walked out at that point. By that time we had decided against food - microwaved food is unacceptable for a restaurant or coffee shop and not something that we would ever eat anyway. It soon transpired that all they had left was soup and a few “home made” cakes. We did not want microwaved soup either, so we reluctantly decided on two cappuccino’s and a slice of cake between us. We decided to sit outside as the inside tables looked greasy and dirty and there were crumbs both on and under tables. This, in addition to the horrible burning smell from the kitchen was awful. Despite there being no other customers after us, coffees and a slice of cake took about 20 minutes to reach us, by which time I was ready to walk out. The picnic tables were new and clean but not at all comfortable. The coffees were almost acceptable but not particularly hot and not proper cappuccino’s. The cake was dry as if it had been lying out for a few days, sickly sweet and of very poor quality - certainly not home made! We left disappointed and will never return. This place is such a wasted opportunity.

Due to a financial hiccup, I arrived to visit the Buddhist Centre with only 63 pence until my payment cleared. At first, Lara assured me I was welcome to park up, stay in their car park in my van. I was assured I could use their toilets and facilities until my pay arrived. At no point did anyone offer me a coffee or something to eat, knowing I had not eaten for several days. Lara assured me my dog was welcome in The Hub. The next day, Sunday, was a deluge. My dog and I sheltered in The Hub. I used their internet in order to try and find work locally and to offer my services in exchange for food. The off-duty chef and his dog and boyfriend arrived and their dog immediately barked relentlessly at me, my dog, other visitors. After 2 hours of this dog attacking anyone and everyone (small black Ruby) without any correction from her owners, I asked the Cook, Richard if he wouldn't mind controlling his dog - who was, at this point, on the top of the couch, yelling frantically or disrupting other dogs' days.Richard refused to control his dog and became enraged at the suggestion he should have to.He verbally shouted and screamed at me 'get out get out get out, you haven't spent any money all day, you can go.' THIS WAS IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS, STAFF AND LOCALS. He continued to verbally abuse me and encouraged everyone to do likewise. He clearly felt entitled to abuse me because I was poor that day. The next morning, I tried to speak to Richard the cook, but he put his hands on me and pushed and shoved me out of the door insisting it was my fault and his dog could do as she pleased. I threatened to call the Police but Lara talked me out of it - making Richard apologise. But, later in the day, 'poor Richard' Lara said, 'he's been crying.' Poor Richard???? And no, no one offered me a free meal, even though they knew I had cash flow issues. The juxtaposition of this vile unfriendly, compassionless, abusive team with the nearby Buddhist Monastery is outrageously unacceptable. I have asked the Buddhists to pray for this team, that they may understand why compassion for others is vital in this world today. I would not recommend giving this place any money until they change their ways. This was a horrific, humiliating, upsetting experience.

So glad we did - we found a great choice of food, friendly staff, quick service - and they have a licence, so I enjoyed a glass of wine with lunch. Extremely competitively priced and the chips alone were worth writing home about. A good mix of people were there and it had a great atmosphere. We walked out. I felt very sorry for the one lady working there, who was clearly working very hard and was trying to did everything from cooking hot food to serving at the counter and waiting on the tables. Unfortunately the pressure she was under meant the table next to us was served the wrong food, and the kitchen was in chaos to the extent that we were worried about food hygiene. It's a community-run cafe, so I'm sad to write a negative review, but best to provide a warning for anyone relying on eating here, and if the managers see this, I hope it will prompt some consideration of staging levels and/or what it's possible to do when only one person is available to run the cafe.

We visited the hub today as a group of 6, 2 being babies. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were pleased to see our reservation had been set out with 2 high chairs. We were encouraged to rearrange as we felt necessary but it was perfect. Our friends, making us from 3 to 6 were running late but we were told not a problem and staff were happy for us to take our table and wait. We ordered at the counter before our friends arrived and had our starter whilst we waited. On our friends arrival their starter was served promptly and we all ate our mains together. The soup starter and Sunday roast were delicious, excellent quality, home made, best I've had in the area. We ventured out to the play park with the babies who loved exploring and we let our dinner settle before pudding. On returning to our table we found all of our mess cleared, including babies spoons and bowls washed from food we'd brought from home with us which was really good of the busy staff. We went on to have puddings of sundaes and banoffee cake which were just lovely. And finished with coffees. The staff, indoor kids play area and outdoor park made our family visit easy relaxed and enjoyable, cannot wait to return. Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday out so huge thanks to the hub.

This is absolutely one of these rare places that are "discovered" on route. Unfortunately, because of the time we only had the shortest of visits, but it's got to be on a planned return visit. Friendly staff and so modern and clean with an outdoor area as well. A huge plus was the facilities (toilets) which were faultless. A great credit to everyone involved and a "must visit" place. We were cycling from Lockerbie to Innerleithen via Eskdalemuir, Ettrick and Yarrow, and hadn't expected to find any places for refreshments on the way, now that the Gordon Arms Hotel on Yarrow has had to shut. We were really pleased, therefore, to come across the Community Hub, which we were told has been open for a year now. We had sandwiches with us and so only bought a coffee and an ice cream. The restaurant was clean and temptingly comfortable, especially with the drag into the wind up to the watershed ahead. We'll definitely make a proper stop there next time.

The café serves good soups, cakes, and staff are friendly and helpful. Can sit outdoors and dog friendly. As it is a community project, and very important to small village, it's worth a detour. We had very good tomato and basil soup, muffins, teas. All very nice.

We stopped for coffee and scone which was one of the nicest I have ever tasted. Cherry and lemon. Excellent value and very friendly service. Would have cost double in Edinburgh. Well-established town to visit and stop for eats

Stopped in Moffat en route to Glasgow on business. Unfortunately,I had the misfortune to be served by an extremely unfriendly and unhelpful sales assistant. This type of person used to be know as a chav. Whoever owns the business needs to be more careful who they hire. The sandwich wasn't even third rate and ended up in the bin. Take my advice give this bakers a miss.

Is it ok for a hospitality business not to take any details from customers during this time I think this is very irresponsible and I do hope no one has the virus and just carries on passing it because this business does not care, not one member of staff had a mask on and members of the public could go behind the bar and serve customers if the staff where busy

Found this by chance as was looking for somewhere for breakfast that was open at 9am and dog friendly. Perfect choice the breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly. It was busy even before 930 and would imagine would stay that way judging by the menu choices. Would recommend and return next time in the area.
