I really like this cafe and delicatessen. No fuss, good quality coffee and food and a lovely "old fashioned" vibe...in a good way

Favourite place for coffee/brunch/lunch — to eat in or take away. Delicious salads, soups and sandwiches and all sorts of sumptuous delights to buy in the deli.

Best coffee in the area and indeed some of the best coffee I have ever had, it really is extremely good. cakes good, friendly service.

While traveling through England and going for my last days to the boat in Dover I stayed for 1 night in Midhurst. I am a very early person therefore I was very happy to find this little coffee and pastry shop, Comestibles! Open at 8 o'clock, seats outside and inside and the best cappucino I have had since my travel by car last 10 days 😃. I was asked if I wanted an extra shot of espresso in it. Ofcours me being dutch and love strong coffee. I had 3 cappu's, a lemon chizzle, my book to read, and a chat with other people being there. It was a great way to start my day during this hot summer 🤗. Thank you.

Had lunch here on Saturday, was excellent. Woukd recommend highly, food was good quality with decent portion sizes.

We were driving through and needed a bite to eat so looked on trip advisor for recommendations. Thus place is just amazing! The food was so good. We enjoyed it so much we then bought food from the deli to take away for our evening meal. The quiche tasted like nothing I had had before, the pastry was delicious and so crisp, the bread was delicious and everything else just could be faulted. The staff were friendly and customer service was brilliant. Just wish we lived closer and could visit more often! Thank you for a lovely tasty experience.

A little gem opposite the market square. I haven’t had a better coffee in Midhurst. Lovely staff and a good selection of fresh deli food and store cupboard items. Good range of chocolates etc for gifts.

Stopped in Midhurst on the way to the Goodwood race circuit and was recommended this fab cafe by a local. We had the perfect coffee and bacon sandwich.

Worth seeking out this lovely deli as it's not in the busy high street, but in the old part of town. Coffee was great, as were the sandwiches and we took away a tart for later. Friendly and good service.

I've been riding my bicycle to Comestibles for a couple of years now and have got to know all the friendly staff. I can highly recommend everything they offer and I am one of many who are addicted to their homemade Bakewell tarts. Yesterday I tried and thoroughly enjoyed the new lemon Bakewell. They also stock an interesting array of goods in the shop.

We dropped in for a coffee and ended up sampling their quiche which should also be added to their claim!

Been going here for 5 years and never once been disappointed, the cakes are absolutely deliciously gorgeous and the coffee is perfecto. Thank you.

Oh how we LOVE this place! Comestibles is THE BEST deli for miles and miles and miles. I go out of my way to visit and have never ever been disappointed. Their ready meals are DIVINE. Their homemade soup (particularly the broccoli and Stilton) is PHENOMENAL. We love ALL that you do. :-)

Started shopping here a year ago or more. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great selection on products and they try to accommodate everyone's requirements.They sell lovely bags crunchie choc bites, yum! Meat is good too sourced locally,and they have a good range of curry cook-in sauces which are delightful.Well done Comestibles.

After a long walk around the ruins and countryside we came across this delightful deli. Lovely coffee, fabulous fresh sandwich and stunningly mince pie. Lots of places to sit down opposite the church too.

Great sandwiches and home made quiches and locally made pies. Lovely coffee and always a good welcome. Normally run as a cafe and deli, during lockdown it turned into an amazing shop with such a variety of flour and hard to get yeast and other baking ingredients. Marvellous to have such a shop and cafe in our town!

I went past here yesterday and went back to look in the window. They are a shop now. I went in and the lady said it was a sit in but now a shop and do takeaway coffee. Nice shop

There are at least five excellent reasons to seek out this café. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is excellent, with well-presented, good quality, fresh ingredients. It's located in a charming, off-the-beaten-track part of Midhurst that should be seen whether or not you stop here. The café is also an Aladdin's cave of a deli, with a great range of unusual, interesting foods - what better way to do your Christmas shopping than browsing whilst you eat? And people say the coffee is the best in town - I found no reason to disagree with that view.

Our family tried a selection of the sandwiches and quiche on offer. All were generous portions, the salad complementing the food perfectly. Large menu of sandwiches, soups, quiche, paninis etc. Afterwards we browsed and bought some items from the deli. Highly recommended!!

I found this place by chance, when stopping in Midhurst for lunch whilst cycling from London to West Wittering. It's a charming place with a lovely outside sitting area in the square. They do a great selection of sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes plus daily specials. I opted for the chicken cesar ciabatta and it was delicious. The service was first class and they willingly topped up my bidons for my onward journey. Highly recommend

Comestibles is tucked away in a pretty little square with tables inside and outside.We opted for a baked potato, with one of a vast choice of toppings and homemade quiche.Both served with a fresh salad.These were followed by lovely homemade brownies.First time I have eaten at Comestibles but certainly won’t be the last. Delicious food and friendly, helpful staff.I would definitely give this place a try if you are in or around Midhurst.

Fantastic little deli cafe in a nice location. We headed here for coffee as soon as we arrived having seen a review/recommendation on the Ordnance Survey website. We also returned for lunch. Food, drinks and service were all first class. Superb coffee and delicious homemade quiches plus a very good menu offering all sorts of enticing comestibles! (In these strange times, a tiny hint.... take a cushion for hard seating with you wherever you eat out)

Popped in for a coffee and enjoyed a superb Bakewell tart baked fresh that morning one of the best I have tasted for many years! Well worth visiting to experience the home made goodies.

So rarely do you buy a coffee that matches up to its delicious smell. We popped in and had a yummy cake too - mine was a vegan ginger sponge and I also tried a bit of my husbands tiffin. Both were stonkingly good! Don’t bother with anywhere else in Midhurst.

The most incredible deli food I have ever experienced.Beyond delicious.Fantastic value for money.Plenty of choice and can highly reccomend the goats cheese salad.Very relaxed atmosphere.Well worth travelling our 20 mile journey to eat such delicious food.

It does not look much from the outside, but the food is really first class. Very pleased indeed to find this place.

Had the most delicious lunch here, beautifully made sandwiches with fresh granary bread with (me) smoked salmon, avocado and cream cheese, (him) Stilton cheese and walnuts , both lovingly made with quality ingredients. Tempted by lots of deli foodstuffs and left treating ourselves, please go; you will not be disappointed.

This is a lovely little coffee shop and has lots of lovely treats to buy, I would highly recommend if you’re visiting midhurst. Try the Mud Pies they’re wonderful!

They’re the most lovely caring Staff ever. Lovely home cooked food, take aways all brilliant. Kept us going for a number of years and go virtually every day , only complaint they’re not open on Sunday ! Defiantly the best coffee for miles around Midhurst , everyone should go !

Went for quick lunch based specifically on tripadvisor reviews. Coffee quiche and a sandwich all excellent. Seating is in the same area as the deli shop and take away so busy and mix of customers but really nice feel, staff very helpful and other food looked good. Probably not the cheapest option for a sandwich, but its all fresh and handmade so still reasonable value. Happily go back (if I didn't live 250miles away so bit of a trek for a take-out coffee).

Had a lovely late Saturday afternoon lunch here. Staff were super friendly and very accommodating. Our kids had 2 really large jacket potatoes with cheese, beans and a side salad and were even offered to take any left overs if we wanted. After reading all of the reviews I had to have the bacon, brie and grape quiche which came with a side salad, coleslaw and potato salad and my husband had a cheese sandwich. All were freshly made and very tasty. Would definitely eat here again.

This is the third of fourth time I have ordered sandwiches at Comestibles. I find the choices excellent - always a great selection to choose from. The cakes are far too nice!! Highly recommended.

Needed sandwiches for lunch on a walking trip. Opens at 08.00, large selection of sandwiches, wraps, baguettes made to order. Generously filled, fresh bread, white, whole meal, granary. Pleasant helpful service, good prices. Thoroughly recommend, good selection of ‘deli’ items also available.

One of my favourite places to lunch in Midhurst, quiche is notable alongside the staple eat-in sandwich (comes with always fresh salad and crisps). Fantastic service, highly recommended!

Definitely the best coffee in Midhurst and such friendly staff. Helped me with dog and baby, brought out a newly cleaned highchair so I could enjoy a coffee in (relative) peace. Food is great although I didn’t have time to eat there this time.

Quiche and salad was perfect - the quiche (we met the chef who cooked it) was made with really light pastry. The bacon sandwich was very good. We will come again!

Well worth a visit can be little busy at lunchtime which is a testimony of how good they are and how appreciated by the local community.

Came in after a girls shopping day and needed a reviving pot of tea and cake ! Huge pot of good quality tea, vegan carrot cake - yummy and vegan date and coconut slice- yummy ! Small but perfect place to get a bite to eat with friendly service and lots of nice goodies to look at and purchase !

Visited for light lunch. Excellent menu and was literally spoilt for choice. Eventually chose sandwiches (many super combinations of filling) which came with crisps and dressed salad - very well presented, colourful and appetising. Tasted as good as the sandwiches looked.

My wife loves this place. Good lunch just limited seating. Do Mud Pies which are lovely. Located in centre of Midhurst off high street opposite church. Staff friendly.

The food is wonderful - with delicious options for veggies and meat eaters alike, go hungry and you'll leave full up. Nothing is too much trouble. Lots of great deli supplies and treats to take home. A real treasure to enjoy.

Arrived for a late takeaway lunch en route to Chichester and were warmly welcomed - even our dogs could come in, and the soup absolutely hit the spot along with a delicious lemon drizzle cake and bakewell tart with coffee for after. Really recommend!

This is a small cafe and can only accommodate about 15 people. You would think therefore that they would want to provide good value for money so that customers return. But greed and complacency means that they believe that a sandwich costing £3.15 to take away can be charged at £6.75 to eat inside in a small, cramped space, amongst shelves of produce, with hassled, unfriendly staff and a limited menu. Nothing can justify a 50% plus uplift particularly not here - squashed amongst jams and other condiments. Shame on you Comestibles. The sandwiches are ok as is the coffee, but this gross profiteering is unacceptable. Your staff could benefit from being more efficient, friendly, welcoming and a smile would not go amiss.

By far the best coffee in town, not to mention the warm welcome and lovely ambience. You cannot go wrong!

Was recommended this tiny friendly restaurant/deli by a local hairdresser friend. Had the most delicious lunch and drinks. The salads were superb and very generous. A friend had the soup and said it was perfect.

Want proper coffee: go to comestibles. Want really good sandwiches with lots of choice: go to comestibles...straight up excellent coffee. Best in midhurst. Low price for high quality. always fresh ingredients. especially good for vegetarians ! Some special ‘different’ options for treats & gifts too which especially at Xmas make this a good choice to visit. friendly service. never disappointed...

We often stop here for coffee, cake or lunch. Today it’s lunch - homemade quiche with green salad, potato salad and coleslaw plus goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad. Yummy!

Wandered in by chance looking for an alternative to non-veggie-friendly pub lunches. Spoilt for choice we went for a soup and a salad. Both were excellent, came quickly, tasted great and in the case of the goat cheese salad seemed freshly prepared. Rounded off with good coffee and a fantastic homemade honeycomb tiffin. Only one left or we we have bought more to go!

If I lived nearer I would definitely live in here. What a great 'proper' cafe - delicious home cooked food, fresh coffees and great selection of biscuits and deli bits. It serves the best Quiche ever, so delicious; and I cook at home but cannot get anywhere near this. All the other lunches look good but as it is a treat for me to get here it has to be quiche!

Went with a couple of girl friends whilst visiting Midhurst. Lovely cosy atmosphere. The food was a real feast for the eyes and tasted delicious. Opted for an open roasted vegetable and goats cheese sandwich. Plenty big enough and it came with coleslaw.

I have been here several times with friends for lunch. It's cosy, friendly service , good reasonable food. I usually have home made soup or sandwiches which are always good and clearly home made.

Husband and I both had delicious quiche and salad but could have chosen anything from the lunch menu. We liked the fact that it's also a deli with lots of interesting and tasty food to buy including their own homemade jams. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. I would recommend lunch there to anyone.

Stopped at random for a refreshment break, just for a cup of tea. Quickly decided to have lunch, one great vegetarian salad and (by contrast) a bacon baguette. They were really good, as were the tea and coffee. Prices were reasonable and staff really friendly and efficient. The next visit will not be random!

We last visited 18 months ago. Still a nice little deli & cafe, does serve some hot food options. Food is healthy and tasty. Price is not the cheapest but not bad for what you get... nice vibe here too, so all good.

Comestibles is a brilliant little cafe/deli located in the beautiful, quieter part of town. It's a place where many of us regularly go to get tasty made-to-order takeaway sandwiches, fresh soups or salads. It is also be a great find for visitors to the area!

Found Comestibles purely by accident while wandering along the streets of Midhurst. Stopped for coffee and a sandwich and so glad we did. Sandwiches with generous fillings served with crisps and salad and a cafetière of the most delicious coffee. Clean and comfortable with excellent service.

Really nice deli/cafe with lovely staff and an interesting array of foods for sale. Quite small and seating a little hard but overall a nice experience. Small menu with very nice sandwiches. We will return.

We searched TripAdvisor for lunch in Midhurst, and found 'Comestibles', which was just what we wanted. We had a generous Caesar Salad, and a Brie wrap and a pot of tea - all good. There's limited seating, but the atmosphere is lovely and staff are friendly and attentive. Recommended.

For a quick, reasonably priced and extremely tasty sandwich lunch I recommend this little shop. We had a sandwich and hot chocolate and the quality of the side salad and crisps was really appreciated. It turned it from a snack into a good meal.

Dropped in for a coffee at 4.25 on a Saturday, thinking they closed at 5.00but after serving a wonderful coffee and best Bakewell tart that I’ve ever had , I was asked if I wouldn’t mind consuming it at the bar as they closed at 4.30. Thereafter, no pressure and seemed genuinely surprised that I was ready to leave at 4.45. Bought 2 more Bakewell tarts on way out and items from the Deli. Very helpful and courteous service. Highly recommended.

A great little deli with a good choice of produce, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Not just a deli . Drop in for a coffee and a read of the daily papers, or order a freshly made sandwich made with fresh ingredients and at a reasonable price. Great for brunch as well!

Lunch for 3 yesterday. Food was really tasty and generous portions. Menu was very comprehensive and we could have chosen plenty of tasty sounding dishes. Will definitely make this our regular lunch spot in Midhurst.

We had a great brunch at comestibles. Local free range scrambled eggs and tomatoes on toast and a potato jacket with hummus and grilled veggies. The food was mouth watering and super tasty. The staff was very nice and the service quick. The dining area is cozy and nice.

This place is a real 'find', do go along and enjoy what they have to offer. Also sell chutneys,pickles and other fare. Will definetely be going back again.
