They take great pride in their coffee. The Barista made recommendations on beans for my flat white and suggested a new approach to a transitional Americano. When I am back in Bath, I will be sure to enjoy the shop again.

This Café has a great atmosphere. The service is slow and quite disorganized. The espresso I got had a good body but still it was underextracted/sour. It was dissapointing.

Lovely place, with excellent coffee (and cakes) served by super friendly people. Probably the most obsessive coffee place i've been to - and it shows in their coffee. Highly recommended.

Honestly, the service was exceptionally poor. They were incredibly pretentious and did the opposite of making us feel welcome. I asked what flavoured coffee they recommended, and in response, they said they didn't do flavours and looked at me blankly. So I corrected myself and said 'tasting notes' then. The server proceeded to walk off and say he would return in a minute. It's an uncomfortable setting, so if you want to spend some time in there, I wouldn't recommend it. Their coffee was delicious, but after starting to feel quite anxious after the interaction I had with the server, I wanted to leave.

I wasn't very impressed by the Karira Hill filter coffee but maybe that's just me

A class act. Knowledgeable staff and tender care have been given in not just the preparation of our drink but everything else from farm to cup - cultivation, selection (some unique beans available) production, and procurement. Responsible and sustainable best practice seems to be applied here, which made my cup of Ethiopian Gesha ever more delightful. Worth a visit for a cup or three for a coffee enthusiast.

staff is friendly, they explained to us about different coffee. I ordered a latte, which is pretty good. the fresh brewed isn't my favourite. brownie taste super yummy, not too sweet, with a hint of salty. would recommend that.

Coffee temple. Had a natural Sudan Rume on filter, an oat flat white and three different espressos: natural Colombia Gesha, natural Etiopia Gesha and Natural Brazilian. All the coffees were carefully extracted, balanced and delicious. Thanks fellas!

Average filter coffee, was hoping for more because of the review. I find the filter coffee itself is a bit overrated. The cappuccino and atmosphere were amazing.

Coffee tasted fine but the nature of the store was similar to every other indie coffee bar I have been to. Prices were a little high for certain brews but the price of bulk beans was certainly decent.

Glad I found this place in the recommended coffee shops in Bath. Good sized with a minimalist and clean decor which I loved. The wooden benches and tables and subtle wall colours provide a good backdrop to the colourful products on shelves and the posters. There is a small area up in the front with bookshelves and benches against them which is inviting for people looking for a quiet space to read and/or work. The staff are wonderful - cheerful, helpful and friendly. Since they procure, process and make their coffee from scratch with flavours varying, I needed some help understanding and then making a selection. When we visited, I chose the Mozambique variant after getting a good explanation from the staff member. The coffee was good and the much talked about carrot cake didn't disappoint at all! It was moist, perfect sweetness with excellent frosting and went down well with the coffee. They have a small outdoor seating space which might be a nice spot in summers. It will definitely be in my list of places to visit for coffee/cake when in Bath.

This place has introduced me to my palate. I now have preferences and an enthusiasm for coffee that has become a wonderful adventure. With fabulous new beans every few days and tasting notes to support I am now really fussy! Great staff, excellent atmosphere. Start your coffee journey here.

In fair disclosure, I met the owner at a chocolate festival and so we came to check out his shop. It is not in the hustle and bustle of Bath, but just off Queen Square so it is easy to walk to and a bit of a refuge from the touristy, Bridgerton fan, Christmas market chaos. My husband loved his coffee. The staff were wonderful. The carpet cake is apparently made by a local and I loved it. It looks like chemistry kits in the table after they make some of their special coffees that I do not understand. The owner is a barista champion. Fun place and not overloaded with tourists. It is a local spot. Friendly, happy.

I came to Bath recently, for the first time, on a mini little break before starting at the University part time. I did my research before travelling, and read so many reviews saying Colonna and Smalls did the best carrot cake. With carrot cake being my favourite case, I had to see if the reviews were true. I popped by on a Sunday later afternoon. The atmosphere was light and airy, and it was busy enough to give a calm and welcoming atmosphere without being overwhelming. I order the carrot cake and was asked to take a seat, where the carrot cake was bought to me (a lovely touch I was not expecting). The cake itself did not look like anything special but my oh my - the reviews are absolutely right. This is the best carrot cake I have ever had in my life. The sponge is incredibly moist and has the perfect level of spice one would want from a carrot cake. The frosting is as smooth as velvet and has that gorgeous cream cheese tang with a great balance of sweetness. I cannot stop thinking about how great this cake was and its been over a week since I went! I am a big fan of raisins in my carrot cake, which this did not have, but honestly it did not need them to add any moisture or texture. The people working in the cafe were lovely and welcoming. The only thing I would say is that I do not think I could sit in there for too long due to all the seating (as far as I can remember!) being hard wood. Nevertheless, I will most definitely be back for the carrot cake, even if the visit is brief!

With all the glowing reviews I expected a lot. I must have very unlucky. The coffee had very poor extraction, a cup of milk really The tea was a total disaster. Weak, leaves floating in it and a horrible grey colour. On the other hand the croissants were nice. Total disappointment, was my result

Great filter coffee, they give you several options of coffee to choose from depending on what flavour profile you prefer for both filter and espresso. If you are unsure don't hesitate to ask the friendly staff who will be more than happy to guide you through it. They use high quality coffee beans and filtered water which is very important to get the best coffee. Highly recommend this place if you are in Bath and you like your coffee.

These guys are true coffee connoisseurs, I first visited this place in 2012 where the barista advised me not to have sugar with the espresso, since then, I’ve not. This is a great venue. Go check it out.

Excellent espresso, I went for their anaerobic Costa Rican and it was delicious and served quickly. The cherry marzipan slice was brilliant too, this place is probably in the top 1% across the country.

An amazing coffee shop that serves artisanal/unique blends you won't find anywhere else in Bath. They have a rotating menu of 6 coffee flavours, half of which are filter coffees meant to be drank black, and the other half can be had as an espresso with milk (like a flat white). The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful, especially if you're a coffee novice like myself. The atmosphere of the shop is great - I think it's the perfect coffee house. Would definitely recommend going at least once.

Still the best coffee (and carrot cake!) in Bath. The interior is a little bit older than others in town now but don't let that turn you off as the coffee is still fantastic.

My review is for the espresso and filter coffee. I also purchased some beans after tasting the quality of the drinks. I think “Best Coffee in Bath” kinda undersells how good this place is. I’ve chased my hobby around the world and sought out specialty cafes, and this place is one of the best I’ve tried in recent memory. When you become consumed by the rabbit-hole of making coffee at home, you can often leave cafes thinking “no one cares about my cup being good as much as I do”, but I’m happy to have been proved wrong in this case. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and answered all my curiosity in an unpretentious and helpful manner. Firstly the filter coffee, I ordered a Gesha on the basis of having read many good things about this place. I was not disappointed! The florality was really present and the tea like quality of the coffee was balanced by the excellent body - which is a trademark of this coffee. When you pay what you pay for a drink like this it’s really nice to experience it prepared correctly. It’s also important to note that they care about the water here, with their own RO system and re-mineralization recipe. So you can rest assured the best will be brought out of the coffee. The espresso was a natural Ethiopian. Something that’s pretty hard to extract well and generally leaves me underwhelmed when I order it. This was an exception, it was sweet and rich - it was really delicious. Overall I couldn’t recommend Colonna more! I also picked up a pretty rare coffee to try which I’m pretty excited by.

Super knowledgeable on coffee and amazing baristas. Usually you find good beans easily but baristas that know how to make a good drink are hard to come by. Definitely a place for coffee fanatics

It used to be that going to Colonna & Smalls was an experience, but it now feels a little tired. The baristas are still great but the place needs a lick of paint (actually, quite a lot of paint - and a new toilet) and some love. Perhaps the owner has grown bored and moved onto other things, but I hope they can fall back in love with their business.

Got 2 varieties of milk recommended beans, from peru and forgot the other one. Unfortunately all the craft in blending or procuring the beans are all wasted as we’re served with both cups very very cheesy milk. Place looks very good, maybe the filtered coffee is better.

Lovely Cafe with amazing coffee. I came to Bath for a day, and the coffee was so good here I had to come twice. I was here on a weekday so it was nice and quiet. Great spot to relax with an excellent coffee.

The coffee is great, the atmosphere inside on a quiet day is wonderful - I go to colonna’s regularly. However… the courtyard is tiny and the atmosphere would be hugely improved if smoking were not allowed there. By providing a place for cigarette butts to go, you’re essentially encouraging people to smoke - personally I’m not a fan of passive smoking when I choose to drink my coffee outside! The tables are too close together for it to make sense to allow smoking there.

We stayed in a hotel just around the corner and went here for several coffees as they were beautifully executed. We have flat whites and also the almon loaf. All of high quality with nice service and chilled vibes. Highly recommend.

If you want a treat or you're a coffee lover, this place is definitely worth the small walk from the hussel and bussel of the busy shopping streets. This is a little gem of excellence in a quiet, calm environment in a beautiful part of the city 😀 My flat white was £3.80

How do they make vegan coffee taste so good? It's the one thing I missed being vegan, but theirs tastes better than any coffee I've had, even before giving up dairy.

Fabulous. Maxwell opened my mind to the breadth of specialty coffee by serving a fantastic espresso that had notes of rhubarb. On last pilgrimage I enjoyed a liberica while chatting with the barista and fellow customers.

While there are many great coffee shops in Bath, the coffee here is markedly better than the competition.
