I stumbled upon this unique place tonight when I was with friends - thinking it was just another bar before I entered I was amazed by the interiors and feel of the place. I felt like I’d stepped into a sailor’s 1800’s vortex - I LOVED IT! Ordering a Spicy margarita and a Orange Margarita (Margarita Mondays) they were brilliant and so we later ordered a second drink (more margaritas!) The bar wasn’t too busy with a chilled vibe about the place, with an attentive bar lady named Emma- was perfect for a casual Monday drink. Think I have found my new favourite bar! Affordable, good location, tasty and unique atmosphere 10/10.

We popped in on Saturday afternoon for a couple of drinks, we got a cocktail from the menu “Singapore Sling” sat back down and it had an overwhelming taste of gingerbread, I spoke to a staff member who said he would take it away, a few moments later I presume the manager or assistant manager came over to our table and said the drink is correct and just looked at me as if to say that is that, no offer of an apology or refund or another drink, I just looked and thought ok?… then I went to the bar and ordered half a beer and the same person served me and looked at me and charged me £3.20 for the drink. Need coaching in customer service. A change of drink would have sufficed.

Amazing bar, amazing atmosphere, harming back to the history of the British empire. Drinks are reasonably priced, and there is a good selection. There is regular live music which adds to the atmosphere. I highly recommend you stop off for a drink and a look around this fascinating venue.

Decent music and nicely decorated place but the price of the drinks were another level of extortion, this is after being charged £10 pp just for entry. One round for 4 people was costing £50! Just for double rums!

I had a wonderful time at Colonel Porter's Emporium, a 1920s-themed restaurant and bar on Dean Street. The place is full of charm and character, with a botanical garden, a secret disco, a rhum and gin bar, and a tavern of wonders. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were delicious. I especially enjoyed the vintage cocktails and the lobster. The atmosphere was lively and fun, and I felt like I was transported to another era. I would highly recommend Colonel Porter's Emporium to anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience in Newcastle.

It was a great time in there with my work colleagues. The beer was great and the live act played my favourite Green Day tracks to cap the night off.

Very busy and loud, service was slow but to be expected on a Friday night, good vibes but not everyone's cup of tea.

First visit. The cocktails are canny as long as it is on 2 for £12, otherwise a bit pricey. Some local craft beers on tap would have been nice.

Colonel porter's emporium is a great place for a drink and catch up good service but very noisy on a weekend as is all of Newcastle but we'll worth a visit steep walk back up the hill to city centre well worth a visit especially Monday to Thursday.

Update 21/11/23 weekends have become so fun here since live musics started. Dance floor is so much better here for the mint music and intimate settings. Tunes after acts are done are mint too. We were dancing till 1am I think! Hope Tim Gambles is brought back more, he's something special! Brilliant open mic night here on Tuesdays. Lush staff and brilliant service. The pictures speak for themselves - the vibe here is excellent, quirky and interesting. Great playlist too. Think mid week evenings here will become a regular for me - felt so relaxed here. Recommend!

Great venue, very busy but lots of seating areas. Nice leather furniture, elephant foot stools, stuffed animal heads on walls, roaring fire etc It was like colonial Britain in pub form or probably what certain folk think Brexit Britain should look like.

Quirky place with a good range of rum & gin, but only Britvic tonic as a G&T mixer ! I expect a premium mixer if you're offering such a range of spirits.

What a cool bar!!! The interior decoration is gorgeous - so many interesting things to look at and amazing for anyone into the Victorian aesthetic. Super comfortable seating as well. And great drinks in my opinion! I got the Butterbeer Halloween cocktail which I thought was delicious. Caution if you don't like sweet drinks- my partner doesn't and we found that there literally wasn't a single thing on the menu that didn't have sugar syrup 😅 but if dessert cocktails are your thing (they are mine!) And if you don't like strong spirity-flavored drinks (I don't!), then you'll love this place

A really lively pub on the Saturday night when we visited, we stumbled across here while out, although we always knew it was there, we never actually used it, will definitely be back, with live music on a Saturday it would be rude not to lol !!

Wow!! What can I say about colonel porters!! Good vibes, good drinks, good staff!! I’d definitely recommend asking the staff about the decor, there are plenty of stories (ask about the stolen bear). Also definitely ask for a spicy honey margarita they are unreal. Only flaw is the music is pretty annoying after a while, please change it xo

Interesting place with quirky decor and strange lounge music cover songs playing. The atmosphere was pleasant during my visit and the bar wasn't too busy which was nice (Sunday afternoon). Drinks were good although we has cocktails which meant they were on the pricier side. Staff were friendly without going above basic service.

What a great pub, staff, atmosphere, music all good. Until a customer knocks a drink over and knocks a red candle over spilling red wax on to my wife’s jacket. Explained to GM Claire. What an absolute horror of a human being, liar, obnoxious and obviously attended the Adolf Hitler school of customer service. Her sidekick with the glasses wasn’t much better. Allegedly, candles were not lit. Video only available for her.Cleaned jacket and asked to leave as we were being disrespectful.

We had a bad experience here due to young girl walking around the pub selling shots. One of our party had accidentally bumped into her spilling a shot, she tried to demand for us to pay for it but we obviously refused. She then made up a story to doorman who then asked us to leave. Shame really as we were in there 3 hours, spent in excess of £300,interacted with other staff, customers and singers. We are in the 40-50 age group were having a great night till then. To have it spoilt my one silly member of staff meant what would have been a 5 star review is now 1 star. If this was my business I would be questioning what happened here and looking to get rid of that dangerous young girl damaging my business. Apologies if she has special needs or has mental issues as it may explain her behaviour but she needs to be no way near paying customers. Honest review here, You have been warned.

Got hassled by a waitress who was very pushy trying to sell shots. She even sat at our table at 1 point trying to get us to buy them. Then she told a bouncer lies about our group after demanding we paid for some shots that were accidentally spilled. Subsequently we didn't pay for the drinks and were asked to leave. I've never been asked to leave a pub in my life! We were a group of 8 aged 40's-50's , all professionals and had what was a great night spoiled by a young dangerous individual. Will never return to this place and will 100% warn others not to too!

So called Rum Bar asked for a Rum, apparently was to high on shelf to retrieve (really) then asked for an alternative with a splash of coke only to receive a glass full of coke, bar manager asked if there's a problem, told the story only to be told if you don't like it leave. Which we did. NO Customer Service AT ALL. AVOID AT ALL COST

Great place to unwind and chill out, you can reserve a timeslot table here so no worries about not getting a seat. If you are a cocktail lover you are in for a treat.

A beautiful venue with an extensive drinks menu. They seem to have good offers on throughout the week and reasonably priced cocktails with table services. I tried the margarita and both were great, they also brought free popcorn and water to the tables which is a nice touch. There’s great music but at a volume you can also talk at. I didn’t visit the toilets whilst there and no live music so I couldn’t comment on these. The staff were friendly. My only slight criticism was lipstick on the glass, which just needs a little more attention to detail (perhaps a lipstick remover of for use before washing). But not the end of the world and definitely not worth marking down or getting upset over. It would be good if there was a mechanism to leave tips for the team when playing by card.

Quirky place, lots to see on the walls, and hanging from the ceiling. Live music in the background and good deals on the cocktails 😁 Friendly staff and table service, for when your legs don't work properly after supping the cocktails!! Had a great time there, and will be back tomorrow, to sample some other cocktails no doubt about it. This might just be my new favourite place to visit.

My husband booked a table for Friday evening for drinks. We arrived around 6pm and didn’t end up leaving until 8:45pm as the atmosphere was good and the live music was great. A very quirky bar. Cocktails were nice too. Would highly recommend

I came Monday evening for some drinks with my boyfriend and his MiL, we had a great time. I’ve been before but my MiL thought the place was amazing. There’s such a large and great variety of cocktails and the deals on the cocktails and margaritas alone are brill. Staff were super friendly and lovely, the place felt clean and the vibes were immaculate. Thank you

Daniel Shaw does excellent cocktails - I sat down for a late night drink on a dark rainy night after wandering down greys street and the lovely barman called Daniel shaw made me the best pint of birra moretti I have ever had. The head on that pint should have a plaque on the wall for its beauty. Secondly he made me a ‘Zombie’ cocktail which i could tell was made with a lot of love inside it. That man on that dark rainy evening not only gained my money, he gained my respect. A man that truly loves what he does. Daniel, I will be back.

Nice bar, very quirky with a good selection of drinks on tap. Cocktails are good in here as well but a little bit on the pricey side. Plenty of seats to choose from and the decor is different all around with plenty to look at or talk about. They have a private function room which isn't huge but again quirky and this is open to everyone when not in use.

It's one of my favourite bars in Newcastle. They have live band's and special dance nights like HedKandi, which I think are very well organized. It's always worth looking at their website for promotional nights. Great work by the owner and promotional team. Keep up the great work :-)

I must be living in a bubble as never heard of this pub until friends suggested it, well what a find, bloody brilliant it was, quick service at the bar, decent prices, live music from a male solo artist that really made the atmosphere & space to dance to it too, didn’t want to leave, May have been our first visit but won’t be our last! 👏

All I can say is it’s the only place I’ve been to when the manager said “ I couldn’t give a f@@k what you say about us “ Having been in the bar for several hours with friends having a great afternoon then being told to leave as they wanted our seats Poor service , bad management , rude staff , avoid .

Fun and quirky place for a cocktail. The Service is excellent and the staff are a credit to the place.

First time being in this bar. Singer was great and atmosphere was good. But that's it. Ended up leaving after drink. Music was so loud it hurt our heads we couldn't hear each other talk it was so uncomfortable and drinks were expensive. Toilets had no toilet roll looked like one of the toilets were leaking water everywhere. Real shamd as it's a nice bar and good atmosphere. Turn the music down a little bit to make it more comfortable for everyone and I'm sure you will get aload more people coming in. I seen people walk in and then straight back out. Oh and the staff were really nice too.

Wow...gorgeous inside with lots bric a brac...its table service only and staff very attentive...great cocktail selection...a little on the expensive side but worth it for the experience...super comfortable seating areas and lovely cosy and warm on a cold day.

I visited Colonel Porter’s many years ago for the first time and fell completely in love with the bar, and when I discovered Archie’s lab I just knew I had to have a party there! I held my birthday party in Archie’s lab this year and had the most magical time! It was Harry Potter themed event which had always been a dream of mine, and the staff went out of their way to make this happen for me! Huge shoutout to Mantvis who dealt with my many, many emails and made sure everything was ready for me on the day, and thank you also to the chef who came up with a Harry Potter style personalised menu of amazing food! On the night the bar staff were so attentive and into the theme and made sure everyone had a great time! I can’t express how much I enjoyed my birthday party, colonel porters will always be my favourite bar in Newcastle!
