Starters were ok, main course of slow roasted pork was divine! Noisy guests who thought everyone wanted to hear everything they said took one star off the atmosphere rating. Not the fault of the place itself. Service by Georgina was fantastic.

Had Christmas Dinner at the Fox booked for 3.15pm. From when we arrived at 3pm to when we left the service was first class. Ordered drinks from the bar with no wait or fuss and were taken to our table on time. The service from the waiter was quick and the food was amazing - starter, main and pudding. The seating was perfect and well spaced with the right amount of intimacy . You didn’t feel like you were intruding on other diners Christmas dinner. All round a great afternoon and evening . If it’s like this next year with the same manager we will be back !

We had our work Christmas meal here. The food was really nice but the service let it down. Waiting 15 - 20 minutes for drinks. Also there were 14 of us & 12 people's main courses were brought out & the other 2 took another 10 minutes. There just wasn't enough staff. You'd think they would have had extra on to cope with big Christmas party groups.

We arrived at 13:00 and were shown to our table. We ordered drinks which arrived promptly. Our order was taken at 13:25 but didn’t arrive until 14:15. I had hunters chicken, which was like something you could buy from a supermarket frozen section made by Birds Eye. It tasted processed. Not at all appetising. I spoke to the manager who was unhelpful at first, but then after I physically returned the food to the bar, he agreed to refund the cost of the hunters chicken. The duo of lamb we ordered contained a portion of roast lamb and shepherds pie, with tender stem broccoli. The shepherds pie was welded to the dish, so only the top part of it was edible. The whole experience was to put it politely, un enjoyable for want of describing it as something I will not write as the wording will be offensive. I do not recommend going there and you would be better off choosing a local family run pub…

Ellie was a great waitress - the Irish coffee was perfect and I am fussy about Irish coffees. She explained it very accurately. Very well recommended. Please giver her the prize!

I had the lamb rump and my husband had the sirloin of beef and they both exceeded our expectations. Value for money based on the food and service is excellent. We had three drinks each(2 beers and a red wine and 3 large dry rosé's). This is definitely a Sunday lunch alternative to cooking at home

Our server Adam, was brilliant, attentive and polite. Food was lovely and the atmosphere chilled and comfy.

I am a Brit ex pat that lives in the US and the last two years I have come back to England for December . Last year my husband and I went to this restaurant and it was excellent all round. It was so good that we booked a Sunday meal for this recent trip a few days ago. They did confirm our booking and we were put in a nice area by the fireplace. The waiter took our main course order and went out his way to ask the chef about a allergy I had and what food contained it. The main course was very good. However when we then ordered a sweet, things went downhill fast. We waited half a hour for the desserts to arrive and when they came they had obviously been sitting there for a while as both desserts that were suppose to be served hot were very cold. We ended up spending two hours and a half hours there just getting our main course and dessert. It was a shame as we had purposely gone back this time on our trip from the good experience last year.

Went there at 1230, 8 Dec, didn't book, within 30 seconds of entering had been asked by 2 members of staff if we were OK and wanted a table? Found us a table, very nice waitress georgina served the 3 of us drinks and food, whole place filled up quick, georgina did her best to keep everyone happy, looked like she was taking care of about 10 tables on her own. Food was very nice and came out quick enough for us . Not been for a few years as we are not local but will definitely come up again.

A very busy place when we visited on a Wednesday night. Food going out to tables from every angle, but the bar was painfully slow with just 1 member of staff most of the time and occasionally 2, taking long drawn out food orders. But, the beer was good, the atmosphere good due to it being so busy, and what we saw of the food, it looked good.

We had starters overpriced for what was served up. Main courses - were served with cold vegetables, chips, gammon steak, boiled potatoes and luke warm mash. The venison & beef pie was lacking chunks of meat. One meal was forgotten. Initially 3 venison and beef pies were ordered, firstly we were told they only had 2 left, secondly it was reduced to one! As they were running two menus and this was taken into account. With drinks the bill came to £185!!! And it wasn't worth it. The waitress was very good, she said that she would feedback our complaints but no apology was made by the management. Don't think we will be back.

Quicker food and drink service needed. Better lighting in corner seat areas. Hot food would be nice.

Very good lunch with excellent service. Spiced carrot soup, Vegetable Penang curry and chicken burger. Will definitely return

If you’re looking for a cosy, country pub then this is the place for you! The Pie is to die for and my partner had the fish cakes. Will defo be back

The starter, main course and sweet were perfect. The rib-eye steak was to die for!

I used to enjoy this pub very much. If I was meeting the girls, wanted a Sunday roast with the family or date night with hubby but it gets worse every time I visit. The male staff see a group of girls as rich pickings - even pointing out that they had rooms there. Worse even is when they think no one can hear them! The way they talk about some of the female customers its as if they're easy meat for the male front of house and kitchen staff. Comments like 'Berny is well in there's followed by nudging and winking like its a carry on film! While this is all going on we're waiting for food that arrives cold and someone to notice we need more wine! There are a great many more and nicer pubs in the area. Avoid this one.

My daughter and I had a lovely lunch at the Colney Fox today. Georgina's attentive and friendly service made our visit very enjoyable and the food was delicious. We will be back soon.

Good atmosphere great staff , food portions a little small

Service was very good, very attentive and responsive. The only negative was it was draughty and the radiator was not working. The waitress brought down the blinds and tried to fix the radiator. Fortunately, my son managed to repair the radiator, but that took a while to warm the area. Next time please check them before the very cold weather sets in. Otherwise, food was excellent, quantities plenty.

We like this pub. The staff are very friendly and it has a welcoming atmosphere particularly when they have the fires lit on a cold day . It has plenty of outside seating space and a large car park. Seems pretty popular. The good is typical British pub fare

Waitress was friendly but over worked, there wasn't enough staff. Lots of waiting. One meal was missed, everyone had finished by the time hers came out. Food had to go back to be reheated as was stone cold. Would probably have skipped pudding if we didn’t have desperate kids due to the waiting. Far too long for a one course meal with only one round of drinks.

Not sure if we experienced a bad day, but the Sunday lunch was cold and not as described . Quite tastless and the service non existent. Seemed to be very understaffed for the volume of custom, after waiting 40 mins had to go to the bar to order dessert! Would give this place a miss, nice environment, but service and food poor.
