Colins Battered Sausage in Tendring

Always loved Colin’s, and always got a friendly welcome when walking in. Popped in recently, newly refurbished, busy, loads of young staff wandering about, alarms going off. Too busy to greet a potential customer, or even make eye contact. I left. Customer service means a lot!

Walked into an empty shop girls busy saying goodbye, laughing and joking. When they eventually saw we were waiting to order, 2 lite bites and plain sausage and a battered sausage not complicated and no other customers. Then a family came in and then a couple of gentleman. I noticed one gentleman getting 2 lite bites and sausages, so after he left I asked the lady who was frying, that we put our order in 30 minutes ago and what we ordered, she said they were in just waiting to get them out, Then she walked over to another lady and asked for 2 lite bites cos she gave the last 2 to another customer. After I heard this I asked for my money back as I had now been waiting 45mins, I was just about to walk out the gentleman who was served before me returned saying he was given the wrong order, I said yes that was mine.

Amazing fish and chips. Looks lovely since the refurb, always go here. No other chippy can beat it! My daughter loves the cod bites!!

My partner and myself used Coiln's Fish and Chips a few times while on holiday the food was always great with a nice friendly service and a great choice of food with small space to eat in or takeaway already looking forward to coming back on our next holiday.

Visited with my family expecting I’d have to go somewhere else to get my daughter a separate gluten free meal and was amazed by they offered gluten free choices. They even had a separate fryer for the gluten free chips. Will definitely be going again and sharing with the coeliac community! Thank you!

First visit today since the refurbishment and I am not impressed. The food portions are shocking especially for large! The chips were also raw, I mean solid to bite in to. They also don't have stuff advertised on their menu. It isn't a nice friendly atmosphere anymore and the food is poor

Average food. Forgot to add tartare sauce and asked to pay minimum card fee of £2 after I spend £25. Poor customer service right?

Very happy with everything we ordered from this chippy. Freshly cooked and Nick was very friendly and accommodating!

Service 10/10. Fish with perfect batter 10/10. Chips poor very dry 2/10. Shame that our meal was spoilt by the poor chips.

Tried this restaurant for the first time on Saturday with my friend and her 2 girls. We sat in and had a meal. The service was amazing and the staff Nick and his chef were super friendly. The food was great and very well priced. All areas of the restaurant were clean. I most certainly recommend this as one of the best I`ve been too for quite some time. Will I visit again....Most definitely

Phoned Colin's to place an order and was amazed to find they were offering a delivery service. I was their very first delivery customer and I'm sure I won't be the last. The fish & chips were beautiful, lovely crisp batter and the fish was hot. The chips were well cooked, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside. The fish was also well wrapped, with paper separating each piece of fish so that they didn't stick together. A vast improvement in quality under this new management. Staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

Changed chef, no where as nice as used to be! No bag given to carry food only wrapped in paper which is shocking. Spent £28 and they messed up my order. Need to find another local fish n chips I’m afraid

Have used Collins for a number of years but will not be using it again. The fish was greasy but the chips were luke warm, blackish and soggy. Absolutely awful , waste of money. Would NOT recommend.

Visited this chippy twice during a weeks stay in Clacton-on-Sea. It was the best chippy we visited in Essex. Not only was the service extremely friendly, the food was really good. Dog friendly chippy and cafe. There aren't many places dog friendly in Clacton, so...

Delicious food, Friendly helpful staff, and safe experience. Considering the last year and a bit the pandemic has effected my anxiety with the pick up times it’s less crowded and I felt safe. Thank you Colin’s!

We were staying at a local holiday park very near by, the parks chip shop was shut so Colin's gained our business instead. We had 2 cod and chips, pukka pie & chips and battered sausage & chips with mushy peas. I would recommend this...

We had the best fish and chips from here on Tuesday. The phone and covid safe collection service worked really well. The fish was perfectly cooked, the batter was crispy (no soggy areas at all). Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I visited Collins with my Mum who lives in Clacton. I was a little hesitant as it had previously not been good but has now changed hands. We both had regular cod and chips to eat in, the chips were the best I've ever had...

Had a family gathering and ordered mixture of fish, skate, cod, scampi and plaice. When ordering large chips they seriously are large amount. Batter on fish is deliciously crispy and light. Also a good size. Value for money too. Highly recommend

My wife & I regularly visit this fish and chips restaurant. We have found that the fish and chips are cooked to order. And the staff are always helpful and friendly. Nothing is to much trouble. My Wife can’t eat fish and chips normally because of health issues but at Colin’s she can eat them. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.you will not be disappointed.

Never visited Clacton before so went by the look of COLINS when looking for a quick meal .And we were not disappointed , Fish and chips are cooked on demand so they are fresh and you would have to travel some to find anything that could beat the quality the chips were perfect and the batter on the fish was crisp and not oily. The staff are very pleasant and friendly , we chose to eat in and the seating area is very bright and clean. Overall extremely good value and quality a great experience. Had easy access for our disabled friend.

I placed an order at Colin’s following a recommendation from family. I picked it up 10 minutes later and was served by a very pleasant lady. The food was delicious, fresh and hot and reasonably priced. The best in Clacton by a long shot.

We don't use anywhere else now. Always going to this chippy. Skinless fish and gorgeous chips, whatever you do, go there. Eat in or takeaway, you choose. We do both, 5 stars.

went here and food was excellent and as a note for those people who post negative reviews why not contact the supplier and explain your complaint first!! we had a large order for six persons and all was great but we got home we had an onion when we ordered an egg wow!!! but the food was great so next time i go i will say i got an onion and not an egg last time here and yes you can say the order wasnt 100percent but next time i will get an egg for free its a no brainer they are really great there and i wish them all the success they will get

This fish shop is local to us but we haven't used it for a while, we was disappointed the last time we went there. Having been told it had a new owner we decided to give it another try. We wasn't disappointed this time, the fish was well cooked and the chips nice and crispy. The premises were clean and the meals are cooked to order. The owner served us and was very friendly. We was given a loyalty card and when 9 meals have been purchased the 10th one is free. Also do breakfasts with free tea or coffee when 5 items or more are ordered. It is now back on our list of places to go to eat.

We have tried all the fish and chip shops in Clacton and surrounding and we can say we will certainly be staying with Colin’s. The fish is the best I have ever tasted and this is the only place I have been where they remove the greasy grey film off the fish! Everytime me and my family have been it’s been great everytime and the staff are always accomading and lovely. Will be returning every time and recommending!!!

I never leave reviews but feel I need to leave one for this chip shop as they are fairly new owners so ignore any bad reviews from the past.. the food is amazing here and I am really fussy! Perfect fresh food to order and never re-dipped chips (which is a bug bare of mine)!

The fish is skinless and batter very tasty chips are great too. Will come again it was excellent Had apple crumble or treacle pudding with custard afterwards yummy. Also tea and coffee are in mugs

This probably the best fish and chip shop around not greasy at all fish golden and fresh, local grown potatoes for chips, cooked just perfectly, they do have other items on the menu such as chicken, fish cakes, burgers, pies and so on and they do an amazing breakfast, tables and seating if required.

We like to use Colin's for our Fish & Chip treat. Cooked fresh to order and always a lovely meal. Fully recommended.

Stopped with the grandsons at valley farm and ate lunch here. Chips good portions savaloy nice. Service quick. Eat in or out and prices good for a coastal area. Locals eat there which is always a good sign.

Scrumptious food, freshly cooked (Cod was epic) and huge portions - a large chips served 6 of us with leftovers! Reasonably priced and very friendly staff with excellent customer service. We will be back again

We’ve been using Colin’s for the past 2 years every week , never had one bad chip and the battered sausages are by far best we’ve had . Can’t fault the service either always greeted with a smile 😃

My party of 6 booked for Good Friday. We had never been to the restaurant side of the fish shop before. The staff couldn't have been more polite and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. When the food was served (we all had different meals) it was hot and well presented. When I cut into my haddock, the batter was crisp and the fish was thick. The taste was 'out of this world'. I haven't tasted fish and chips as good as these for a very very long time. We all agreed it was a meal to be remembered for the best things! Thank you very much to all the staff for making my family meal a happy one. Patricia T.

Great fish and chips from Colin's had the large cod and chips & my partner had the budget cod and chips the fish is cooked fresh and my god did it taste amazing some of the best fish ive ever eaten. Service was great and only a short walk from Valley Farm holiday park.

This has got to be the best fish and chip shop in Clacton. The staff are really friendly and the food is just amazing and very good value for money. There is a lovely little restaurant to the side of the shop, where you can get anything from a cup of tea to a full English breakfast. We refuse to go anywhere else in Clacton and would recommend this fish and chip shop to everyone.

Nos alojamos en la granja Parque valle vacaciones y decidimos probar este "fish and chips", ya que estaba subiendo desde el parque. Bien. . Nos encantó tanto que fuimos tres veces en una semana. La comida era fresco, las porciones eran enormes y la comida era muy sabrosa. De hecho, el chips de queso eran épica! Los precios eran muy razonables y el personal era muy agradable. Sin duda volveremos cuando estamos de vuelta en Clacton

Como mi familia y yo nos alojamos en el Valle de la granja por la carretera pensamos entrar y tener algo de comida.

Visité Colin de hoy por primera vez y el bacalao y las patatas fritas que pedimos estaban deliciosos. Me voy a quedar en un parque de caravanas cerca y el chips no estaba abierto y eso es algo realmente bueno de lo contrario me hubiera perdido en una delicia. Estoy en Clacton en una escapada de 5 días hasta el viernes y volveré antes de ir a casa. El personal es amable. Recomiendo este lugar.

Nos alojamos un cercano parque de vacaciones que tenía un chippie pero no abierto durante la semana, así que decidimos ir fuera del sitio y Colins fue la primera que nos encontramos. El personal era amable y simpático, la comida congelada de ser ordenados, grandes porciones y maravillosa degustación de eglefino. Y todo esto a un precio razonable, saludos.

Fuimos en mi camino a casa del trabajo para salchichas, patatas fritas dos veces y tuvimos que esperar 25 minutos para la comida. Tardaron algo de tiempo para poner la salchicha en la freidora después charlando entre sí. Cuando finalmente llegamos a las patatas fritas eran pasada y la salchicha era sosa y un poco underdone. No creo que visite aquí durante mucho tiempo y quedarse en el filete de dorado, donde a pesar de que esperar la comida y el personal son mejores

Hemos comido de esta venda muchas veces ya que es más cercano a mí. Tengo en mi coche e ir a otro sitio ahora como las patatas fritas son TAN malas, re-bajaba, así que muchas veces son como de cartón! Si te gusta la papa en las fichas no vayas a Colin!

colins is a great place for a great fish and chips in clacton, the food is really nice and fresh and the fish is cooked to perfection. only downside is they could chuck in a few extra chips lol

Hate giving this review as last year it was lovely so wether they have changed the friar but either way ,the chips were inedible we ate in the restaurant and left the all the chips after tasting several the fish was ok but not the batter,unless we hear different I'm sorry to say wont be returning

Nos alojamos en el Valley Farm Caravan Park a la vuelta de la esquina, y quería una comida el viernes por la noche debido a una llegada tardía. Era tan feliz que elegimos Colin. Ambos tuvimos abadejo con patatas fritas y era impresionante. Sí, es un plato sencillo, pero muchos te lo muy equivocado. Comimos en y la señorita que nos cuidó era magnífica. Felizmente ella preparó la silla alta para nuestro hijo de 11 meses y aseguró que estaba muy bien y limpio. El servicio era atento y amable, y no dudaría en volver allí de nuevo.

Necesitamos otra familia a unirse a nosotros esta noche, ya que había mucho pescado y tan increíblemente muchas patatas fritas... pedimos por teléfono 4 y 3 porciones de bacalao normal de patatas fritas. Muy razonable de precio, etc. personal agradable El pescado era fresco, las patatas fritas crujientes - todo perfecto, pero dos veces tanto como podíamos comer. Estupendo para el hambre!

Ordenados para llevar a casa cuando sabía bastante raro y original, rápida y eficazmente, pero sirve tienda tenía un fuerte olor a grasa, pero pensamos que puede haber cambiado la grasa o aceite para cocinar. No volveré como dinero tirado porque no podía comer. Difícil de conseguir en tienda también, cochecito comunicado muy limitado.

He estado viniendo a este chips por un tiempo ahora, y cada vez que voy siempre me creo que escribir una crítica, pero me olvidé. El servicio es fantástico y el personal siempre se desvive por ser amable. Siempre una buena porción de patatas fritas y no tamaño necesario pedir el grande ya que sería alimentar a 3. Somos una familia de 3 y pedimos a 1 grandes porciones de papas fritas y es más que suficiente. Recomiendo el bacalao curry salsa y las salchichas. Siempre a través de teléfono de nuestra orden, así que no hay que esperar.

A great variety of food on menu. Very fast service of freshly cooked takeaway. Best chips! Reasonable prices too.
