Well I would never be back as I ordered a pepper chip and I got a few chips with a big pile of onions on top absolutely disgusting still trying to get the smell out of my car. Never used to be like that and I travelled from islandmage for that.

Very expensive for average food. £5.10 for portion of chips! Fish super would be £12.

Tried fish and chips everyone raves about. £14 plus. By time I got home chips were soggy,also left horrible greasy after taste in my mouth, over salted, fish portion was slim and batter also soggy. Packaged in a waxed cardboard box doesn't allow steam to escape. Overall poor experience. I wouldn't recommend. Way over priced. Poor quality chips and soggy. I won't be back

'Twas a cold stormy night, I was starving, Fiending for some food. A few hours had passed and I was wandering the streets when it happened, A bright light shined on me, speaking to me. The Clarence. I entered hastily with not one moment to spare, as I entered the aroma of a fine establishment entered my nostrils, I knew from that moment it could satisfy me. Then like a snake in the waters, I was attacked by a wee lad named The Checkered One. He hastily injected food into my mouth, Feeding me like a mother feeds his child. It was amazing, 10/10

Great chip shop with welcoming staff. It can be busy so better to ring and order and collect to save a wait.

The fish and chips look lovely in the shop. However they're packaged up in cardboard boxes lined with a plastic film. The result is that none of the steam from the food can escape, so by the time you get home everything is a soggy mess. Tasty... but soggy!

Ordered to collect ready in 10 minutes Chicken Fillet Burger and chips. Batter around chicken was burnt had to scrape it off to eat and chips over salted . The dog had a good lunch but not me very disappointed.

Ordered a chip for collection (they don't do sizes) which cost £4.80 and the portion was absolutely tiny and lukewarm! Cannot understand for the life of me why this place is popular!

Best fish and chips in Ballyclare, it was a busy Friday night but the staff seemed more interested in chatting than getting the orders out. Call your order through and collect if you don't want to wait at least half an hour.

Tasty wholesome fare, good portion size, ready on time - so what's not to like 😋

I've previously commended the Clarence on the quality of their fish and chips, however, this has not been the case the last three times. The batter was not crispy as before and a lot thicker. Also on a couple of occasions the fish seemed to have been re fried. I wonder if they have changed their fish fryer. Not good, if they don't improve I'll be looking elsewhere.

A busy takeaway but the fish was v poor - stogy thick batter around dry fish and dround with far too much salt by the server. Might use again to try their other fare but reluctantly unfortunately. Needs to raise their standards a level in our experience.

Absolutely shocking. Ordered for a delivery and was told 30 mins. Arrived 1hr 20 mins later , food was lukee warm and my taco chip (£6.50) contained the grand total of around 10 chips. Don't waste your time complaining either. SHOCKING

Got a delivery for the Clarence Christmas Chip- £8.50!!! When it arrived there was a thimble of gravy over soggy chips, a few cut up bits of turkey and stuffing that might as well have been cardboard and sawdust. Was NOT impressed, probably wont be back. Other half had a breast of chicken (£5.50) and it was luke warm and as hard as concrete. Will be sticking to our regular in future.

Got a curry cheese chips...only lukewarm upon collection...with a nice big long hair mixed in with it.

Lovely food but the price is shocking this was our go to chippy but 11.98 for two chips and two sauces nah rip off sad to say we won't be back now

Daughter ordered at weekend for delivery to Ballylinney Road, charged £3, when the driver arrived he demanded another £5 as he had to take a detour.

Food wasn't the nicest , so called gluten free burger gave my son dirrohea and stomach pains , everythig was quite over priced , will not be back.

I got the chicken fillet burger meal. Incredibly tasty burger and good portion of proper chippy chips very little greese and really tasty. Great price for the meal and friendly staff to go with it. I will be back.

Best Takeaway in Ballyclare. Everything is cooked from fresh and very tasty food that everyone will Enjoy. Great variety on their menus and you can ring your order through before you go to collect. Very Reasonably priced too Definitely 5*. They also have a delivery service as well.

I had given up and never again thought I would taste great fish and chips like I remembered as a kid. Then I thought I'd try the Clarence on a winter's night.....AND IT WAS MARVELOUS!!! Thank you!!

Excellent food, however you better plan 2 trips as they will never get your order right; even after complaining twice for this reason.

Overpriced rubbish, chips were just 1 big clump of undercooked grease!!! Fish gougons could have been squeezed out, they were so grease! Terrible

Walked in half an hour before closing time to be told it was telephone orders only !! 3 staff standin in shop none on the phone which was lifted of the hook !! Told them id been tryin to get through on phone for 10 mins the girl said aye we are shut !! Customer service skills could do with bein sorted out !!!!

I rang at 5mins b4 closing but didn't realise they closed early. I only needed a kids meal and they were very helpful, made it for me. The fries were very tasty. Thankyou highly recommend.

Fish batter was to thick, needs to be thin and crispy. Was like it had been battered with the battered sausage batter. Chips where nice.

Waited ages on our phone order tonight and the person who took order didnt write it down properly when we got home items missing !! Staff really need to wake up and listen!!!

Just deleted my 5 star post and replacing with this 1 star, or even ZERO if it was possible!!!! Spent 40 mins in a queue outside going up the white lines marked out for social distancing 1 by 1 as customers were called and served, when I got to the last white line before the door i was not called in like everyone before me. I stood at the line waiting for 30 mins while people pushed past me and went in, finally fed up I went in and asked if I could please place my order as I had been standing waiting as the next customer for 30 mins without being called while they served people pushing past me to be told sorry its too late. I am absolutely furious to say the least, the staff knew I was standing there as they kept looking out but not calling anyone else in, yet they served about 15 people who pushed past or just run in without joining the queue. I will not be back and no doubt the staff or management won't have the decency to reply or apologise SHOCKING SERVICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

No caption needed. You get what you pay for. Not cheap but certainly worth it and the portion sizes aren't for the faint hearted.

Value for money has gone down considerably over the years I have been using this particular chippy, I'll shop around from now on.

One of the best chip shops around but it is expensive! They have good daily deals and getting one of those makes it more affordable. Portion size when compared to the price makes this a 3 star. Also the daily specials come in a smaller box than is advertised (sausage supper) - very very misleading.

The Clarence offers a good range of chippy food. Everything is freshly cooked. Batter nice and crispy. Good service. Good prices. I ordered a fish supper. Fish was lovely but unfortunately there were quite a few bad chips.

Met a friend for breakfast here and we had their signature breakfast and coffee break breakfast. The eggs on the signature breakfast were over poached but apart from that both meals were delicious. The new member of staff since our last visit (lady with long dark hair and glasses) was really friendly and very attentive.

Very nice chippy with daily specials at excellent prices. Clean and welcoming but parking is sometimes a problem. Staff are friendly and efficient most importantly the food is excellent.

Enjoyed a nice coffee and lovely scones here while visiting the furniture store . Staff friendly and welcoming .

Fish supper was a child's portion but a adults price very expensive

It would be great if the quality was consistent. With Clarence chicken pick either small portions or a decent size and stick with it. And either provide it burnt or not... Preferably not. Then we won't be disappointed. The counter Staff are great and the service is quick. The menu is very good, Clarence Spicy Mushrooms are excellent try them if you get the chance. The Clarence chicken....... Well you know how I feel, for the price it should be a hell of a lot better, it wouldn't take much. The Clarence use to be the best chippy around. With the amount of hot food competition in Ballyclare they are going to have to up their game. I think I'll be going somewhere else for a while. At least until I hear better reports of their chicken. Chips this afternoon were hard as a rock as well.... 12-6-18

Best fast fresh food in Ballyclare

Best gluten free chippy options I've ever encountered. It's a 30 minute drive from my home and it's ALWAYS worth it. I recommend the Gourmet Burger

Best Chippy for miles. Practically a local institution. They do daily and lunch time specials which are great value. Great fish, brilliant pasties, really good southern fried chicken and the best chips in town. Never shy with the portions either! It's only a few minutes walk from the park too. Perfect spot to watch the Six Mile River run by while having lunch.
