I had the worse experience ever in my life at this bar “Coda” due to unjust mistreatment from the owner Oliver Ward and the security guard Jason. The owner was extremely rude without any reason and the security guard was excessively aggressive, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. It was my first and my last time in Coda, I wouldn't recommend this place due to the unfair and discriminatory treatment by the owners and staff.

Recently visited for first time to watch a band with friends, I was surprised that it was a mixed age group of customers all enjoying a brilliant band, good service and atmosphere, highly recommended.

Aweful staff are rude and so are the people that go there, if you like mosh pits go and expect to be trampled. Like weren’t they stopped after people died ? Well apparently not I got pushed about like crazy and ended up breaking an ankle staff could see something was wrong and did nothing. Just told me to leave. Wouldn’t miss this place if it got shut down too many clubs anyway *********just tried to tell me I’m lying what the hell! Shows how much of a bad business they are if they can’t accept their mess ups

Always such a great atmosphere in here, it’s nice to have a club suited to a certain genre of music and have a group of generally like minded people.

Great venue, always have a brilliant time when I go to CODA. A great mix of live music played by local musicians gives you a real appreciation for the talent we have around us!

I came here for the first time the other week and oh my DAYSSS!! The drinks were peng but not as good as the music. It was my first time seeing the incredible, one-of-a-kind Generation Feral and honestly I'm lost for words! She is amazing, her lyrics are on point and her stage presence was something special. Please Coda book her again and pay her millions because she deserves the world for her music and personality!

Coda is a pure play music bar. They serve booze and put on acts and entertainment (no food, snacks only). Almost all nights and events are free entry (with rare exception when the occasional high roller like Frank Turner passes through). The bar has a good range of hooch (with co-owner Olly having a background in schmanzy hospitality) and can cater for most tastes. Coda also serves the second best espresso-based coffee in town which is no mean feat. Seriously good. The sound in Coda is frankly excellent. The bar hosts a range of acts, from cover bands (typically Saturdays) through local original acts, touring groups, promoter nights and hosts a regular open mic and Jam (Sun and Thur respectively). When Coda arrived: they upped the standard of live music venue in Colchester massively with other local venues only now catching up in terms of technical provision and overall sound. The Coda crowd varies but is very diverse in terms of age, gender, sexuality and taste. It is one of the safer venues in town and generally the 'mouth breather' element found in many other local bars tend to be absent. Long live Coda !

Best live music bar in colchester. Warm and friendly staff, the owners (Tristan and Oliver I believe) have been working on this place for a couple of years and have really grafted a great environment for music and entertainment. A great selection of drinks, alcoholic and non alcoholic and the cocktails are fabulous!!!

I moved to Colchester a few months ago and was looking forward to going to Coda but it took until last Friday night for my first visit...I wish I hadn't waited so long! It definitely didn't disappointed! Excellent live music, awesome cosy environment, amazing vibes and great crowd! Bar staff were attentive and made delicious cocktails! Can't wait for my next visit! Coda was my favorite place to go and I was a regular until last night, thought I'd take my friend that is not from Colchester to coda to see the band and have a good time. Unfortunately our night was ruined and cut off early due to a very disrespectful man who continuously shoved my friend into the front bar of the stage and then when she pushed back for some space he aggressively elbowed into her back and proceeded to turn around and verbally abuse her. Now we both know this isn't the places fault but when bouncers were told and my friend was in tears Infront of them they just said 'we will keep an eye on him' but we had to cut our night short and leave because of such a disrespectful man which was definitely double our age. We felt let down by the bouncers and that he got away with his abusing behaviour and our night was ruined because of it. However like I said was once my favorite place to go but won't be returning for a while with the lack of support we were shown.

Great live bands playing generally covers of alternative rock classics I.e Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kings of Leon, etc. The Drinks are well priced so it makes for a good night out.

It alright just very crowding between fridsy and saturdayas I with my friend, live was pretty good but I don't fk know what sound like in live just heavy bass. Metal/rock is not my taste so anyone out there fan of that theme then should try out

Cosy bar. Went to their ticketed drag event which was a great night. Staff were friendly and the cocktails were delicious. Would go again for live bands

This a great place in Colchester, the town really needed a place like this! Good selection of beers on tap, staff are really friendly and there's a good vibe around the whole place! A great venue to visit if you like live music.

We stumbled upon this lil gem on a Thursday night out in Colchester. What an amazing little place offering live music from all walks! Normally we would have a drink or two then move on, but not in this little gem of a bar…it keep us all night! Top place.

Wonderful artistic and colourful decoration, very friendly owner and staff, and Leffe on tap to boot. Great gathering place for youngsters and up and coming bands to strut their stuff. Just don't get carried away reading the book page covered walls in the toilets 😃

The people who run this place are tight knit crew of professionals. Other reviews slating them are simply not true. When ever I have gone in they have been friendly and polite and really cheers me up. The place is like home.

The staff cannot be more helpful. The owners care about their customers. The comedy night they have is excellent. The band's can be top notch. When you have regulars in a bar you know you are coming to a great place! The best venue for music in Colchester!

I've become a regular of Coda since early this year. The staff are second to none, always so accommodating. As someone who loves live music, the ability to be able to see a band perform of the caliber that goes on here, and for free is amazing.

Me and friends went out to coda. Had specials 2 for 9 My glass smelt like old mouldy shoe which instantly put me off my drink. We left. Yuck. Never again

We had a couple of drinks - fine. We were having a nice time. Then it got busy. You know, all the people that had already been enjoying their evening. I then received a drink was clearly watered down. Having been on the end of scams overseas, I thought I’d make sure and asked for vodka in a separate glass with no ice (took some asking). It was clearly watered down. I asked for a new bottle, which was opened away from me...still watered down. (After 40+ years, I know what vodka is like - viscous and harsh when neat.) The staff’s response? Call the security people and threaten us with being unpleasant. Well, that’s money well spent. Unfortunately for the owners, I know who owns the bar and also how to make a formal complaint to the council.

Amazing place for live music, entertainment, drinks, and good atmosphere. The music is always great, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. And the place itself! The team have worked hard in doing up the place with custom made lighting from old instruments, and alongside the other decor, the place has a lively, fun attitude to it. I highly recommend

The pub is nice and has a good atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night and there was a live guitar performance. As it is a new establishment, it's still pretty unknown yet, but don't think it will stay like that for too long, given that it's a blues/funk type of place, which is unique in Colchester from what I know. Price-wise, expect the typical price for High Street. For a bottle of Old Mout Cider and a Desperados I paid £9.20.

I went here for Pint of Science, it's a lovely venue. Feels continental.

Wasn't really a jazz bar like I was expecting had some indie band on watched by a gaggle of their parents. Beer prices were extortionate £11 for Adnams mosaic pale and a pint of Midway. Mad considering 3 wise monkeys is selling better beer for less.

Coda Colchester was very good to catch Adam Ferretti, Shooty& The Bang Bang, and Connor Selby , but was very disappointing for The Thursday night jam, most of my friends left prematurely after Theo Pearce insisted on focusing on one poor disabled singer caterwauling /freestyling at least six 'songs'-there were others who weren't given the chance to jam,so we went to The Bull to their Blues jam instead.We got the opportunity to sing there , come on T.P. let others jam !!!

Good live music seems extremely important to the owners, and typically there's not even an entry fee as you'd normally expect with artists that are playing their own music. Can be very busy at times but that's obviously because it's very popular.
