Cocina Restaurant in Chesterfield

The hotel restaurant offers a sophisticated atmosphere and our meals were all delicious and beautifully presented. The service was very friendly. Gladly again.

Absolutely first class. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Such friendly staff! Wow, we were really treated so well. The food was amazing and very high quality. An excellent wine list to choose from as well. My only complaint would be that the portion sizes were a little big for the main dishes so we couldn’t quite finish it all. However, the food was extremely tasty with some home made classics. If you would like a nice place for dinner, you can always come here! Breakfast in the restaurant for hotel guests was lovely too.

Cocina has long been one of our favourite restaurants in Chesterfield. Four of us sat down for dinner on a Friday evening and were all delighted with the menu choices, the quality and presentation of the food and the restaurant ambiance. The staff are great giving very good service. It has become a bit expensive but is still great for a qulity dinner.

Have stayed and dined on several occasions and always enjoyed the food but on a recent visit the food was exceptional. Had eaten a late lunch elsewhere so was not overly hungry so decided on the 2 course set menu for £25 thinking the portions would reflect the price but no. Both my husband and myself chose the pulled pork terrine, excellent, my husband went with the steak and said it was one of the best restaurant meals he had had in a long time, the steak and accompaniments were cooked and served perfectly. I had the best fish pie I have ever tasted but portion size, unfortunately beating me 🤣 Service attentive but not intrusive. Breakfast in the morning, really good, all self service with plenty to choose from.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights and had dinner on the first night. This review only applies to the dinner content as the restaurant is the same one used for the breakfast buffet. The dinner was disappointing, especially at the high prices charged. It was busy and according to its rating it was a previous award winner. This was shown as the Sprine Menu, yet it was Summer. It didn’t start well when I asked the waitress how many king scallops were in a starter portion (£16), She said it was quite a big portion, well perhaps a medium size amount. I told her that I simply wanted to know how many scallops I would get.... she said its 3 or 4.... I said which is it and she said 3 I think... but they are big ones.!!. Well, I got three scallops of varying size on a plate with some sort of red jus or sauce and loads of grass. Two of the scallops were overcooked and the biggest one, a true king scallop was cooked perfectly... I have no idea why the disgusting red sauce and other stuff, belly pork, ginger etc was smeared on the plate. I tasted it and quickly realised it did nothing but detract from the taste of a simple shellfish. There is no need to fancy dress scallops or add anything to affect the flavour. I then had the 8 oz Filet steak (£40) which I ordered medium rare, hand cut chips, asparagus (£7) and onion rings (£7). The steak when it arrived was perfectly pink, but the meat was dry and cold. It was tender enough but any juices in the meat had gone. The steak had the impression it had been cooked and then left (which it should for a while) but had not been covered to retain its heat and juices. What really upset me was the side dish of Asparagus, once again a simple vegetable, which when fresh needs very little other than a drop of butter. This had a strong lemon flavour and was covered in bits of disgusting crispy, smoky, bacon. I later saw that this was supposed to be Serrano Ham... I could hardly taste the Asparagus at all it was destroyed by the taste of the ham. The onion rings were fine, at least they weren't soggy. My wife had the chicken, and her meal was fine. We didn’t have a dessert, the waitress made that choice for us, by bringing us the bill before we asked for it or saw the dessert menu. I would not eat there again.... Cost overall £153.... inc £4.50 for a small bottle of water, £8 for a bottle of San Miguel, £30 for a bottle of Rose.

Although we've stayed at the Casa Hotel on several occasions, this was the first opportunity we've had to eat in their signature restaurant and we were very impressed. Service was friendly, efficient and professional. The food was absolutely outstanding. Perfectly cooked with quality ingredients. We would highly recommend.

Booked a Valentines Meal. I was expecting something pretty special for £65 each and the restaurant is a great place for a posh meal. Not much in the way of Valentines theme except for the menu, however the option of sharing dishes is a great idea. The pan fried scallops were well cooked and overall a nice dish. Spoilt somewhat that the lobster was well over cooked. I later noticed that the plating up of dishes on the pass seemed to me to be slow and haphazard and I think the lobster may have been sitting there too long. Still a tasty dish though. The fondue was easy to eat, the marshmallows were lovely although I thought the honeycomb had a strange taste. Service was friendly but no one asked us if we enjoyed the meal. Overall a nice evening but average for the price paid.

Everywhere was booked, the only place we managed to get in was here at Cocina , no doubt due to the higher price point. The venue was a high end feeling luxury experience. The food was really nice, chicken supreme was definitely a good choice! Hubby had the steak which was nice but the chips were far too chunky and dry in the middle. Bread and olives for starter was delicious, very soft yummy bread. Not the cheapest price but a very nice experience in my opinion!

My friend and I went for breakfast last weekend and the mushrooms were burnt, the tiny bit of bacon was really salty and not nice. The 10cm x 10cm piece of black pudding couldn't have been smaller. This is not to mention that their website said that the price would be £13 each and we were charged £15. This is the most disgusting meal I've ever had and would recommend anyone not to waste their time and money going there. Even a cold Whetherspoons breakfast would be an improvement.

We have enjoyed Cocina many times since Casa first opened. For the first time in our lives, my wife and I decided to eat out for our Christmas lunch on 25th December 2022. We booked and pre-ordered our food, 3 courses. Each of the dishes we ordered were excellent and nicely presented The staff were excellent. Friendly, courteous, efficient and alert. We thoroughly enjoyed.

Family of 19 on 2 separate tables, this was not indicated on booking also advised festive menu £30 2 courses £35 3 courses nope Sunday lunch individually priced. Food good as always just mislead.

We had my father in law up for the weekend. They were staying at the Casa Hotel so we decided to try the restaurant for one of their night in Chesterfield. Well it was incredible. The staff are friendly and down to earth even though the atmosphere is elegant and up market it never felt stuffy. The food is divine. So if you have an important celebration or are wanting to pop the question this is the place to come ! The ambiance is sleek sophisticated without being over the top. The menu has a nice variety with something for everyone's tastes. We ate our way from starters which included tapas ended with a variety of puddings. Each more delicious than the next. Thrilled with the whole experience yes it was pricey but well worth it.

Possibly the best 3 course meal we have ever enjoyed in a UK Hotel, fine dining at its best and well worth visiting

What we ate was okay, however not worth the prices of the dishes. 2 starters missed off order and arrived as others finished theirs. Were taken off the bill, but not a fantastic first impression, considering my partner and I had been talking about coming back for my birthday near Christmas based on the decor, we will not be returning. Came to mains, and 2 had ordered the Chicken Supreme, which is a high quality piece of chicken that is only corn fed, resulting in slightly yellow tinge to the meat, and tasty, but in both cases these appeared to be, in our opinion, normal chicken breasts. I myself had a burger, i am pregnant (8 and half months, and had made this obvious from the get go) which turned up pink in the middle, but couldn’t get the attention of any staff (as none were in the restaurant) to tell them that it needed cooking more. No check back on the table. By the time they came to clear us, everyone else had finished and I had passed the point of wanting it cooking more, and just wanted to leave. We asked if they are made in house, as the waitress informed us that they serve them med-rare, and she said that she does, but if they are made in house, shouldn’t you ask how a guest would want them cooked, as with steak? Especially for a pregnant lady who cannot eat meat not fully cooked due to bacteria. The waitress did take it off the bill, again, but sometimes you can’t really put a price on an experience, and this was not what I expected from such a fantastic looking venue.

Christina and her team are doing a great job. Food and service excellent. We were at breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. The team were working as a team. Unusual in hotel breakfast rooms these days.

To bling and glitzy for my taste. Far to many flavours masking the essence of each dish and offering little. Plenty of 'Foodies' with little knowledge of taste adding to their latest Instagram / Facebook 'look at me, look at me' entries, Shouty and intrusive service. The type of place that thinks it's classy to put a strawberry in a glass of Champagne. And goes right ahead and does it. First and last visit

A quiet restaurant which has a formal atmosphere. Service was good with the friendly staff. Nice to see the open kitchen working from where we were sat. It was definitely worth having a Sunday lunch here. I was concerned like anyone else with a usual carvery and need for social distancing with spacing, and staff getting used to a new way of serving, with a little table set up at the table side to transfer your food across. Even the chefs were wearing face masks whilst cooking. This place got it right, and whilst food was more expensive, the food was delicious and well presented and I still felt full. I have to say, that was also the best yorkshire pudding I'd ever had... it's looked like it could have been overcooked, but no, it was moist, and clearly whisked to a light texture, and unlike a normal pub carvery, you actually got a decent fair portion of meat for a change, but I guess that is why you pay more. I plan to come again. After four months lockdown, it was nice to get out for a change. I fully recommend this place, save your money, and spend well here. It's worth every penny.

Met up with friends for a meal in the restaurant. Firstly the location is easy to find with free parking. Great welcome by Lauren who prepared amazing looking non alcoholic cocktails as we looked at the menu, great choices. Ambiance was perfect food exquisite with first class service from Mia and Lauren. I came in yesterday for a meal with 4 other guest, the young blonde girl who served us (I think her name was Lauren) couldn’t do enough for us. She was lovely, she made sure all our needs were fur-filled and held a lovely conversation! What a lovely member of staff, a real token to the team!!

Underrated ! I can’t believe this restaurant is rated 20 in Chesterfield on TripAdvisor. Cocina is by far the best place in town. I have been eating there for the past 9 years and it’s consistently good. The staff are lovely and you can see and talk to the chefs. Sure if you want a cheap meal there are a number of places in the town, but you have to pay a bit more for quality! AA get it right awarding 2 rossetes. Thanks Cocina Team for some amazing creative meals beautifully served by lovely young people your the best!

Once again we tried another visit with a large group after a poor meal last year ,we were suprised that it was even worse than last year ,this venue is a very overated venue with incopetent staff and very poor quality meals ,Avoid at any cost and we will be avoiding next year and going elsewhere ,other venues offer better value and food ,I even asked the staff if the chef tasted his food he has cooked Terrible !!!!!!

Stayed in the hotel with work, the restaurant for corporate dinners I find over priced it's as if they are punting to the fine diner, for corporate stays who wish for something homely you're probably better looking elsewhere. That said it's nice the food is a good standard and the staff are cheerful even at stupid o'clock in the morning when heading to breakfast. The fact this is part of an independent hotel holding it's own against the hotel chains speaks well of it.

Eight of us sat down for a birthday celebration dinner at Cocina. We are fairly frequent visitors and have always enjoyed the food, ambiance and service.Very good menu and good selection of wines.As always excellent food with nearly all of us choosing different dishes through the courses. Well presented and excellent but not OTT service.

Once again we had a great meal with excellent service at Cocina. The pork loin was superb and perfectly cooked and the wife’s Sea Bass was spot on. We stayed overnight and that meant we also had the opportunity to sample their breakfast which is always first class. The staff are always really welcoming and friendly. We’ll be back again soon.

A party of 6 of us went here for a friends birthday. Service all night was excellent. The food was of a very high standard. We all just had mains and a few drinks. The bill ended up about £40 per couple which we thought was very good. Overall a great night, we would go again :)

Visited for my 50th birthday for a family meal,staff were great very friendly and helpful,they looked after us really well,we had tapas to share it was delicious very tasty,i had hake for mains cooked perfectly with a bean stew,it was nice to have a meal not carb loaded,all ou meals were delicious cooked perfect and plated lovely even the bottle of red was lovely,not the cheapest but 1 of the best.

We had a very enjoyable evening, service was very friendly and attentive. One of our party has a garlic allergy and this was accommodated with no problem. There was an extensive menu which now caters for all budgets. A lovely touch at the end of the meal was a complimentary desert plate to celebrate a birthday. A lovely evening, delicious food served in a relaxing atmosphere.

We are regular guests at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield. It’s rare that as a group we would choose to eat in a hotel, but Cocina is different. There is no reason to leave the hotel, and if you’re not a guest, there is every reason to visit. The service and food are fantastic. A great variety and top restaurant quality. And tonight we were served by Morgan. A top juggler, who served us with excellent humour. A really great dining experience!!

We come back to the Cocina Resturant time and time again. The whole experience from start to finish and so special! All staff are so lovely and cannot do enough. Especially Morgan and Rhea who we were served by this evening! Such lovely ladies! The food is always absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is so special! We always say we feel like we are on holiday as we feel so relaxed and away from the real world for a few hours! The gin menu is outstanding! Can’t wait to come again!

Fri evening and was given the set menu along with the a la crate menu. We ate from the set menu, 3 courses for £25. The food was excellent and very good value. I would have expected to pay much more for the meal we had as it was that good. The staff were so friendly and efficient too.

Stayed at Casa last night. This hotel always has a classy feel and it’s Cocina restaurant is no different. High quality local produce and attentive staff. This mornings staff Ben and Ria were very helpful

First visit for Sunday lunch, We were greeted and shown to our table by Ben,this young man was well mannered, respectful, pleasant and very professional. The service along with the food were top drawer. Praise to the kitchen for the quality and taste of our main courses, I had the Salmon, my Wife had Beef and my Mother had Lamb, suffice to say our plates were empty aT the end of the mains, for Dessert I had the Cheesecake, my Wife and Mother had the Sticky Toffee Pudding, again due to quality and taste meant empty plates, we shall be returning

Came here as I was staying in the hotel and the menu looked good but was not prepared for the incredible food. Perfectly cooked dishes that taste wonderful. The value for money is amazing. If you are in the area, don't miss this gem.

I have eaten here many times for family meals,celebrations and date nights. We have always enjoyed the high quality food, gorgeous restaurant and friendly staff. Definitely our go to restaurant !

I ate here with a large party to celebrate a friends birthday, we were a large group but everything rang so smoothly and the Cocina team were extremely attentive, always being on hand when needing something. We ate on a Sunday evening from the early evening menu, which had roast of the day on and plenty of other choice to suit all tastes. The cauliflower cheese which accompanied the roast of the day was absolutely amazing! It’s a personal favourite of mine anyway but it really is the best I’ve had!! Thank you Cocina!

Four of us went to Cocina for a celebration dinner having received some very good news.

Visited Cocina for the very first time on the 23rd of March for a large family gathering and we were mightily impressed WOW. Food amazing with fantastic attention to detail. Service was absolutely impeccable we shall visit this restaurant again in the not to distant future well done to the chefs and waiting staff

We visited on Sunday for lunch for a family gathering. Food was superb and plenty of it. Staff were friendly and accomadating nothing was too much trouble. We had a lady that was in a large wheelchair and the staff went out of their way to accommodate her route by the service lift and a clear route into the dining area. It made our visit so special so thank you all for making this happen.

Incredible food, even better service. Lucy was so knowledgable about the food and wine and gave such good service. The food was delicious, a well thought out menu which showcased some amazing ingredients and cooking. The scallop was my absolute favourite but everything was delicious. We will definitely return!

I came here with my family on Saturday night, I must say it was very busy and the whole front of house team did well to keep the service at a high level. We have been in the past and decided to treat ourselves again. We were not disappointed. The food was lovely but the staff really do make this place. They are friendly, attentive and honestly will do anything you ask. Hats off to your team!

Last night was lovely! I just want to thank the chefs and wonderful waitress that served us (didn’t get her name). The service was friendly and attentive, they couldn’t do enough for us! The food was very tasty, I had the lamp rump and my partner had the halibut. They were both beautifully cooked and well put together dishes. Thanks again Cocina. We will return.

Food was absolutely unreal, deffo made me want to come back. Staff were all very nice too. Gracias Cocina!

The whole experience our party endured was really disorganised. We came as a party of 20 and pre-ordered our food. Despite this, one of our party was told that the chef miscounted on desserts so he had to pick a new one. After this occurred, they came out with 2 of the very things they said they miscounted. We asked for water numerous times and didn't get any. It took ages for some people to get their courses. It wasn't the relaxing experience it should have been because of poor management from whoever does things on the admin side.

The blade of beef was like a plate of dog food. They couldn't even get the cheese and biscuits right.. the cheese was dry and flaky! Less than average and we shall not be dining here again !

The food is excellent! I would recommend trying their taster menu! The atmosphere was brilliant with the saxophonist. The staff were really friendly. Will defiantly be going back some time!

Me and my wife had a fantastic meal. The food is up there with some of the best food that I have ever tasted. Staff were really friendly and attentive and we will be definitely going back again in the future.

We stayed at the Casa hotel and loved it. Staff particularly good. Very friendly and helpful. We used the restaurant on the first evening as we were tired and wanted an easy option. The food was distinctly below parr. Fixed menu was apparently reasonably priced but there were loads of extras. £1.5 per person for a bread roll for example. The food we had was unpleasant and seemed over cooked. We only used it one evening.

I booked a meal for my mums birthday 19th Feb, on arrival i noticed that the details on the computer stated birthday not only was it her birthday it was a buy present due to my husband a d i are moving to Cornwall so not sure when will next be up here. The service was poor getting different waitresses waiting awhile after each course and being i feel ignored another couple near us seemed to be getting all the attention. I did expect some complimentary dring or something for my mum i had seen on you site a drink and a plate saying Happy Birthday. The meal came to over £70 due to a five pound tip i gave Why i dont know. I didn't say anything on the 19th i didnt want to spoil the last day with mum. I will not recommend your restaurant 26 pound for a piece of steak one big tomato small bowl of mash and a sea bass that my mum couldn't see the bones due to the lighting. Why didn't the staff do something for my mum maybe its because we wasn't staying at the hotel only eating there. I went

I love this restaurant it has a lovely atmosphere for a intimate meal or special occasion we have had some amazing meals here in the past but unfortunately the last 2 experiences have been bad.

My wife and i had booked a special evening dinner on new years eve on arrival we were shown straight to our table great start, unfortunately the service went down hill from here. We should have received a glass of prosecco on arrival, however, after 15 long minutes sitting at our table with all the waiting staff giving us funny looks we had neither the prosecco or a menu!!! In the end i had to get a manager (lady in black trouser suite) who went and got a waiter no apologies nothing! Such a shame as food was amazing staff let this restaurant down big time.

Went for a date night with my wife. Fantastic service throughout. Fantastic food to match! Great, spacious layout with an intimate feeling. Top service from all the staff. A credit to Chesterfield. Keep up the good work at Casa!
