Cj's at The sanctuary in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Four of us dined out at Cj's for the first time since the building was The Meadery, and right from the booking experience to the food and service, it was all excellent. We had 3 courses each and each course was brought to the table in great time, fresh and hot. All food was delicious and, after a dessert that was on the menu turned out to not be available, the chef made something up for my wife without us even having to ask. Fresh, local food and friendly service. We would definitely recommend.

A hidden gem. We've actually had several of the amazing takeaway roasts they offer but had never dined in previously. The food was incredible and every dish looked amazing and tasted even better. The head chef took great pride in what was brought to our table by the polite staff and we were so happy with every course. If you haven't been I can't recommend it enough. If you have been you'll know exactly what I mean.

Second time we have eaten here and food was exceptional on both occasions. The fish and pea purea is to die for. Great atmosphere, relaxing and the staff are always polite and helpful. Great Chef.

Ordered Sunday Roast. Extremely poor. Frozen rewarmed veg. Potatoes like bullets. Hard and inedible. Meat was awful, couldn't describe it really. Wasn't fresh joint of beef where meat fell off bone. It was thin with no taste. I have never tasted anything like it

Great, affordable place to eat. Sunday lunches are amazing! Lovely staff and friendly quirky atmosphere make this a must-visit bar restaurant. They do takeaway too but I loved it inside this converted chapel which is now a shrine to, amongst other things, Star Wars. The Sunday roasts are super lovely and come with lots of veg and homemade gravy. I could barely finish the basic one-meat option, but you can upgrade to two or three meats if you are brave enough ( veggie option available). Wide selection of local beers also

Had sunday roast, loads of food perfectly cooked. 👏 Service was good. The only slight fly in the ointment was that we had an elderly guest with us so we had specifically asked for an easy to reach table, we were put on the top floor at the farthest end. I guess wires got crossed. I arrived later so could not do anything about it. The small car park across the road was useful

Went to cjs for a carvery today, 8 of us. Food was amazing, on a nice spacious table upstairs, staff were checking if we needed drinks etc, at just the right time. Food was quick and plenty of it! Over all 10/10 from us.

Lovely Sunday roast with plenty of veg, in quantity and variety and a big yorkshire pudding. Meat is not off a joint, but very tasty.

This is going to sound crazy, but they need to reduce the portion sizes and increase the price! I had the roast with my family of 4 and it only came to 60 quid! The vibe is nice, music is good, very clean, very cosy and all the waitresses were nice : )

This place is amazing! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous! If you love mussels - these were incredible, as was the steak. The ambience was warm and inviting. Enjoyed every moment of the evening 😊. Definitely worth a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

We wanted somewhere special for the last day of our break in Devon & Cornwall, so due to previous reviews we chose CJ's. What a great choice, the service & food were excellent. Would recommend to anyone.

Amazing meal! Two of us shared the fish platter and loved every mouthful. Many many varieties of fish, plus lobster, crab, mussels, etc. Add to that potato wedges and salad. Highly recommended.

We discovered this restaurant while staying at a local hotel, fantastic seafood, relaxed atmosphere, nice people, and very reasonably priced, the Lobster, scallops, and Mussells were amazing.

Friendly staff, lovely food. Great to see the 80's toys on display . You could easily pass this place without realising how good it is.

The stars I've left are based on how I imagine it would have been based on the other reviews! Just leaving this review to say to others to PRE ORDER TAKEAWAYS IF YOU WANT ONE! If we'd been eating in we'd have booked but didn't book anything as didn't realise we'd need to for a takeaway. But we should have as when calling late afternoon/early evening for a takeaway roast we'd missed out. Gutted, but will know for next time. Don't make the same mistake...

Just had a fabulous meal, celebrating my wife's birthday, one of the best we've ever had. The food was freshly cooked, locally sourced, and tasted wonderful. Great value too! Portions were very generous, and the service was excellent. We'll definitely go there again, as we didn't realise there was such an excellent restaurant so close to our home. Many thanks for a wonderful evening guys!

Hidden gem aside from popular touristic routes. We ordered catch of the day, scallops and mussels - all three were delicious. Good old rock music, very friendly staff, fast service. We’ll come back for meat and lobsters :)

Found CJ'S to be very friendly and attentive, Food was delicious unfortunately portions were so big there was no room for Dessert!! One of our party had the Catch of the Day, and thought it was the Best Fish Course they had Eaten.

Best roast we've ever eaten out! Huge portion, but the quantity didn't diminish the quality. We had the veggie option (chickpea and lentil bake) which was well flavored and very big! Lovely friendly staff too and a beautiful setting. 100% would recommend.

Sunday roast, seek it out well worth it. Three different portion sizes ample veg well cooked neither over or under done. Three meats; five veg on side good roasties. Car Park opposite. Good coffee. Veg doggy box.

Lovely food as always. My first home delivered roast dinner and it certainly will not be my last. Delicious and plentiful.

Took my wife, along with 2 friends, for her 60th bday on Sat 10th Sept. we were greeted warmly & led to our table. The table was in a private area which had been decorated with banners. We had phoned ahead to ensure that there would be lobster available and, boy, we were not disappointed. Au natural and totally delicious - as was the Fruits of Cornwall. Our friends really enjoyed their steaks too. Pudding was deliciously chocolatey, accompanied by a wonderful rendition of Happy Birthday (the talented chef came out to wis my wife happy 60th too);and the plate was personalised with 60th & a large chocolate heart. 60s music playing - fab.Many thanks for a special evening. Loved the Star War memorabilia too.Many thanks to all.

I was on holiday in Falmouth and looking for a venue for dinner - CJs gets good reviews and I can see why. The service is really friendly and there’s a good choice of meat, fish and veggie options on the menu. We had seafood and all the dishes were good and it was good value

My partner and I visited here whilst holidaying in Falmouth. Its honestly amazing. Firstly, it's unique as the restaurant is a converted Chapel. So the layout is cool with stained glass windows. The staff were amazing and attentive. It's family run, including their chef, so there's a sense of pride in their work and food. We ordered the muscles and the casement for starter. It was amazing and the portion size was generous. The waitress suggested I try the lamb roulade and I'm glad she made the suggestion. It was phenomenal.... Once again, huge portion. My parter had the half lobster, where they even picked itnfor her as she didn't know how. Once again, amazing flavours and quality.The price was very reasonable for the quality and portion size. Their bill doesn't include service charges so make sure you tip well!!! They deserve it.A.m.a.z.i.n.g.

Called by at last minute late afternoon on a Sunday, not only were we pleasantly surprised that they were still doing, but really pleased with the quality of food.The converted school house is a beautiful building, renovated well, the staff warm and friendly.The roast was brilliant, great quality, cooked well and more than plenty to go around.(only criticism is the stars wars memoriblia is a bit ill fitting with the restaurant, but guess would appeal to many!! Doesn't distract from experience).What a gem of a find

As a large party of 9, that was accidentally booked by ourselves as a 7 was readily adjusted on the spot.The restaurant even helped out with directions en route when we got lost. With parking across the road for the restaurant.The ambience is a mixture of relaxed, boutique, family, friendly but with a sense of something special awaiting you in terms of the cuisines.The food was excellent, scallops, crayfish cocktails all received accolades from the party.The mains a burger, bbq chicken, seafood basket, lobster, steaks and the house catch of the day. All were faultless, and the sauces were divine with the fish dishes. House special catch of the day was by a country mile the most memorable fish dish I have had in a restaurant.Service was very good and friendly .The venue is a small converted church and the tables were a good distance apart to allow for social distancing but equally ideal for making it feel spacious and cosy. Highly recommend and a great find.

Visited C J’s with my husband and two children 7yrs and 12yrs. Absolutely wonderful food. My husband and I shared the seafood platter, all we can say is just wow. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The kids loved their dinner and especially dessert, didn’t expect the extra treats to add to the ice cream! Thank you for a lovely evening and making our kids first night in Cornwall the best.

I have a wheat and dairy intolerance and find it quite difficult to eat out. Sarah and Paul's son is celiac. I was naturally drawn to a place where I felt I would be catered for. The restaurant is an old chapel building with large, stained glass windows, allowing the evening sun to pour through the windows. The restaurant is on different levels which enables a lot of the tables to be quite private. We were welcomed by Sarah and taken to our table. I explained to Sarah about my intolerances and she advised that mostly everything can be done gluten free, music to my ears!So we ordered our starters; two crayfish cocktails, one baked camembert and one smoked salmon. Then onto mains: bbq chicken, lamb roulade, plaice and 1/2 lobster. There is obviously great skill and passion for local produce here. The food looked beautiful and was really fantastic to eat. The menu options were brilliant and being able to pick and chose was wonderful. We managed (I'm not sure how, put it down to the kayaking earlier) to eat desserts, despite the portions being very generous. The desserts didn't disappoint. Two chocolate orange cakes and two red velvet cheesecakes, wonderful. We had a lovely evening and were really happy to have spent the last evening of our holiday in CJ's, We would thoroughly recommend. Thank you to you all.

Excellent food quality and delicious, huge portions served in this converted Chapel. Very friendly and welcoming staff, attentive service, reasonably priced menu. Recommend the seafood linguine - the sauce is so rich and flavoursome... We could not fit in a pudding and we didn't have a starter.... Loved the look of the lobster and seafood platters which went by to other tables... Did I mention the very friendly staff?? Great find, tucked away.. Try it !

We went for dinner on the last night of our holiday and were delighted to have found such a gem. From the moment we entered the building the staff were very friendly and welcoming, there was a fantastic atmosphere. The menu was extensive and the food was superb. Best place we ate all week! We look forward to returning.

We had a great family meal. The team are brilliant, Delivering professionalService in a relaxed atmosphere. Sea food dishes are fab kids menu brilliant and all the produce used is locally sourced. We all have no hesitation to recommend this great secret sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Falmouth it’s worth a visit.

First visit and absolutely loved the whole evening.Scallops as a starter followed by lobster -all cooked to perfection and presented beautifully.My husband had lamb which was equally as good and great portion size.We couldn’t fit in a dessert which was a shame as they sounded delicious - next time !A lovely relaxed evening - the staff were lovely and friendly - thank you.PS There is car park opposite which was so handy.

There are restaurants and there are restaurants but CJ Sanctuary is the ONE to visit if you enjoy excellent quality food. Booking is advised to taste the true delightful food that is freshly cooked to order. The menu has a fantastic selection of dishes including both meat and fish dishes, vegetarian and also children dishes, using fresh Cornish produce and beautiful presented. From arrival to the end of our meal we were all dealt by such lovely friendly staff, where nothing is too much trouble, it is a family run restaurant I believe,who work extremely hard and are definitely committed to deliver excellent food and service. I would greatly recommend CJ’s and we shell definitely be return to enjoy another culinary delight.

Yesterday was our Sapphire Wedding Anniversary, and we chose to celebrate it at CJ’s, following a family recommendation. We were not disappointed.We received a very warm welcome, and were shown to our table straight away.The menu and the specials were very varied. My husband ordered baked camembert, and I had scallops. Both were heavenly, the presentation was done with care and skill, and the portions were very generous. This was followed by sirloin steak with chunky chips and salad, and lobster with the same. Again, the portions were very generous, and were accompanied by delicious bread. The lobster was cooked to perfection, and the meat was plentiful. Once more, the presentation and the obvious culinary skill in preparing the food were notable.We would not hesitate to recommend CJ’s to anyone seeking seriously good cuisine in a lovely relaxed setting.

We’ve eaten at CJ’s a number of times before, but unfortunately they were fully booked for today. They mentioned to us about collecting a take away or that they could deliver; we opted for delivery and it was worth every penny. It was hot, fresh, sooo tasty & HUUUUUGE… you definitely get a lot for your money. My husband & I had the standard 2 meats option, he just about managed most of his - but I will definitely go for the small next time.

We absolutely loved our evening at CJs. The lobster was probably the best I've ever had, and it's so lovely to see the chef wandering around and checking in. Especially when the food is that good. We had a veggie with us too, and it was great because they actually have some decent veggie options opposed to yet another pea risotto (the staple throw-in veggie option in the area it seems!)Definitely visit during your Falmouth trip!

One of the best seafood restaurants we have ever been. Thank you for the chef and all the staff for being so kind. We wanted to have a lobster but their daily delivery was running late. So we have ordered the catch of the day. 5 minutes later delivery has arrived and the chef has kindly offered us to serve a lobster at its price. Everything was delicious and fresh. Service was outstanding.

Went here to collect 3 roast dinners on Sunday. Asked to wait 10 minutes and given a complimentary drink as a ‘sorry’!The meals themselves were superb, everything was cooked to perfection and there was enough food for next days dinner!Truly excelkent service, value and foid quality, cant recommend this place highly enough

We visited last night after much anticipation for months during lockdown and were not disappointed! The food was absolutely perfect. We had the clams and baked camembert as starters, both were sublime. For mains we had steaks and seafood platter. We all agreed they were the best we had ever had. We couldn't resist a pudding despite being full, the profiteroles and treacle tart were wonderful. Such a lovely atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff. We will definitely be back soon with our dogs who were also made very welcome.

My partner and I visited CJ's for dinner. I am celiac and often struggle to find safe menu options. However, staff at CJs were very knowledgeable and there were lots of safe gluten free dishes on the menu. We ordered the scallops for starters to share, as well as a lobster. Both were very tasty with lots of sides, and even GF bread. The gluten free brownie with ice cream was an indulgent and delicious treat to finish off a very nice evening. Overall great restaurant, with friendly and accommodating staff, and perfect for gluten free seafood.

Left feeling very disappointed. Booked to eat here after all the postive reviews We booked for A sunday and we were told after we beeen seated that they only served a sunday lunch, which is of course the restaurant choice however it would be nice to be told at the point of booking. No kids options although we were told they served kids sized meals on the phone and by the waitress. My 4 years olds meal size and cost was the same as mine and my wife's.

Visited CJ’s last night, the food and service was 5 star . The mussels were the best I have has, my wife decided on the lobster and it was perfect.Chef and owner managed to fine time to come out to the restaurant to check the food was up to expectations.Good value including the great wine choice.We will visit next time we are in the area.Thanks Eddie and Alison Williams

Decided to visit CJ's for the first time despite regularly staying just down the road at Pendra Loweth (lockdowns have prevented us visiting in the last year to be honest).Easy to sum up in one word - excellent! Very friendly service together with excellent quality and portions of food means that CJ's is most definitely on our 'saved' list now for when we are in Falmouth. For starters we had baked camembert & squid. Both portions were substantial for starters and both totally delicious. In fact, we also ordered bread and olives, which my waistband is now telling me was something of an indulgence...My main (baked Hake) was superb! Quite possibly one of the best pieces of fish I have had in a long time. Beautiful, white flesh and super-crispy skin. My wife had the lamb burger which she demolished. As she orders a burger *whenever* they are on a menu, she is uniquely qualified in these matters. A simple nod tells me it passed the test with flying colours. If you are in the Falmouth / Helston area, head over to Budock Water and support a local family business selling local produce, you won't be disappointed.

A lovely converted chapel as a venue, an owner who built a wonderful rapport at our table and a chef who wanted to talk about his food with passion, I’m so glad we decided to visit. This restaurant deserves to succeed. I would thoroughly recommend it...

This restaurant is really pretty cool - in an old vicarage!Food came out piping hot and was very good - we had the tomato soup with great bread, I had the plaice and my husband had the Fruits of CornwallAll in all a lovely place to eat - I would definitely return if back in the area

Hands down the best roast dinner I've had in years! (Sorry mum). Great price for the amount of food you'll receive and you seriously won't want to leave any! Lovely to see the chef come out and greet his quests and make sure everything was great, what a nice touch which is rare these days! Also highly recommend trying the CJ's own lager on tap too, very tasty all in all! Will most definitely be going back!
