City Pride in Islington

We attended this venue during a mid-week afternoon and evening. I was initially disappointed, for a Fullers establishment, to see only 2 hand-pumps in operation, both of which were serving London Pride. Fortunately, the Prude was excellent and remained so throughout our stay. The venue was quiet during the afternoon but became busy in the evening as a younger crowd turned up. The background music fortunately remained unobtrusive. I did notice that our group appeared to be the only ones drinking the real ale and asked a member of staff passing by (who I assume to be Luigi) to pass on my compliments to the cellarman. He replied that he was the cellarman and quite self deprecatingly made a comment about keeping the lines clean, which was enough for this CAMRA member to conclude that the real ale being of good quality was likely to be the norm. As the beer quality was so good, we decided to stay, and eat. A wide range of Pizza was on offer, and represented very good value for money, especially for central London. The waiting time was not as long as I had expected, although my calzone arrived a few minutes after the others at our table. It was, however, the best I have ever tasted, and Luigi brought me over a complimentary ½pint of Pride as an apology for the delay. There was also a large range of ‘special’ pizzas available to suit those with special dietary requirements.

After visiting proud city London I have to say the downstairs area and bar need a complete refurbishment the show was outstanding from what you read about the show, have to say it was amazing the boys and girls were wonderful and colourful, the food was very disappointing as it was a seven course taster meal it really was nothing special 1st course and 2nd course was very small pani puri with chickpea and a tamarind sauce with a accompanying 2 sauces for you to add and share with everyone else with this it was accompanied with a small samosa again tamarind sauce 3was a bayou bun with some kind of meat I think again no taste dish was 1 ravioli served with a cold sauce again not good ravioli was tuff in mouth sauce ok the 4th dish was a large rounded ball of fried potato with bit of veg in it tasteless sauce not good 5th dish was chilli paneer ok not great, 6th dish should have been a dosa with Prawns this was again ok but pawns left a really fish smell on my breath with no dosa on plate, the 7th course was a GULAB JUMAN SUNDAE dry taste not worth the waiting time. With the food we had ordered martinis what we were served was not a martini in a martini glass but in a water glass the drink it self tasted awful, if the truth was out there I suppose that if your drunk you probably wouldn’t care but we paid good hard working money to see a show with a meal, oh and the free drink was cheap and nasty come on you guys if you want to see more people coming to these venues update the venue and food if it’s top class people don’t mind paying the extra. So finally show was brilliant music great, DJ Amazing just food let you down. Hope this review helps if it was just the show 5 stars would have been given, the old man on stage brilliant story told by him with jokes inc. When we complained, about table being to small to sit 8 people we were elbow to elbow, they then gave us 2 chairs 1 chair was ok but the other side was hanging of the edge ridiculous to say the least. Had asked to speak to manager told he’s in other room doing looking after some other people ? Hmmmm makes you think.

I used to come here back in 2016 when I worked in Farringdon and went yesterday as a treat. The pizzas only get better and better, the Luigi special is to die for and Luigi and co are so friendly! You're only waiting about 10 mins for a pizza if you go for an early dinner, normally busy as can be at lunch but unsurprising given the quality of the food! Being a pub it may look unassuming but do not pass up a chance to come here and have the food!

This is a nice average little London pub except they have delicious pizza!! Soft and doughy and full of flavour - would recommend

If you want pineapple or chicken on your pizza....you will be disappointed as it does not feature on the menu. If you are looking for the best pizza you’ve ever eaten in this country, you should try this place. You won’t ever want a Hawaiian pizza again.

Amazing pizza. Such a choice and authentic but have to agree with a previous reviewer. The staff are not the friendliest bunch. I booked a table for 11 for a Wednesday afternoon. It was very quiet with one girl serving. She didn't smile once. Not even when we were leaving. She knocked Excellent down to Very Good as definitely five stars for the pizza!

You cannot fault the pizza, it is delicious, however, the customer service was awful. Staff were unfriendly, it felt like they didn't want us there (there were 10 of us at lunchtime - it was quiet and we were bringing them in quite a bit of money). When I went to pay the bill they tried to charge us £54 for two glasses of Prosecco! When I queried it they updated the bill, and refunded the difference to my credit card. We still didn't get a "sorry" or a friendly "goodbye" though. Appalling, won't be going back.

Hands down the best Pizza in London and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Friendly staff, great prices on the pizza, particularly for the area and a warm welcome. What more do you want? This is our Go to when we want Pizza and I now won't go anywhere else.

Friendly staff, decent wine but once I had seen the ladies loos, there was no way I was going to eat there. Looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for a good few weeks.

The pizza was okay, but it was not good enough to make me want to go back, given the plethora of options in the area.

Lived in London all my life and this has got to be my favorite pizza! Highly recommend the 'OMG' and 'Diavola' - Diavola if you love spicy food!!

A pesar de estar en el centro de Londres, Luigi y Enzo lleva este pub como local. Siempre simpático, amable y alentar a su día. El pub es un poco de un tesoro escondido a pesar de su ubicación y felizmente así. El horno de pizza está expuesto, y la comida es simplemente increíble. Ingredientes frescos y olores increíbles de pizza italiana meciéndose en todo. Incluso las aceitunas son increíbles.

Este lugar tiene a. ser el peor pub que me he encontrado durante muchos años. Pedí Tia Maria y Coca-Cola, sólo me dijeron que no hay Tia Maria. Después de una rápida consulta con mi grupo, optamos por Malibu. . Qué, no Malibu! Bien, comida suficiente. . . tendremos un melocotón Schnappes entonces. . Qué? No sirve que sea? ! ? En este punto yo estaba listo para salir y sobre salir. . .

Se dice "Elegir una cosa y hacerlo bien" sin duda se aplica a la ciudad Precio - ellos ciertamente tienen pizza clavado! Auténtica, sencilla, bien de precio la margarita es el mejor de los que he probado en Italia. Personal amable y relajante entorno es un gran lugar para un trabajo posterior sobre la cerveza y viento de pizza.

If you're craving hand crafted Sicilian and a pint of London Pride or a mellow atmosphere with a rich/deep soundtrack, these guys can't be beaten! Awesome pizzas fresh from the oven, great service and a place to chill and chat. The London Pride!

I have been there a few times although there are quite a few pubs in the area. Choice is beer is good.They also do excellent pizze. There is a room that can be booked on the upper floor.

Excellent pizza...and I mean really, really good. Large, full of flavour and tastes amazing.Tables are a decent size, and with the front doors open there's a really nice vibe about the place...

I have visited the pub a couple times now and it's one of my favourite pubs for a couple of reasons. First, Luigi who runs the pub is Italian so knows very well that Pizza and Pints are a good match. He is also a great and flexible host who will make you feel very welcome with his team. Second, they are a partner of Fuller's and serve Honeydew, which is one of my favourite beers. Third, they have a seperate room that can be rented to host a pub quiz or if you want some privacy. Fourth, the pub is about 5 minutes away from Farringdon station, so easy to get there and easy to get away.

I was in Farringdon today to renew my Italian passport when I discovered a pub serving Italian food. What a surprise! I had a wonderful swordfish Carpaccio and the most delicious linguine with lobster. I was not expecting such an authentic Italian food in a City of London Pub! I will definitely return soon.

Loving this place from the wonderful bar staff, through the great tunes, lovely great value fresh cooked wholesome food and great service. Perfect start to an evening out.... I shall be returning!

Is not my first time in this place though, I always happy to go there with my friends. I enjoy a lot the atmosphere and the italian pizza.I will definitely come back and recommend this place.

The City Pride is a lunch time go-to. Luigi and his staff are friendly and welcoming and it has a lovely relaxed vibe when so many places get rather frenzied at lunchtime. Pizzas are definitely the best I have ever eaten, not that I am the best judge of pizza and wouldn't normally go out of my way to have one, but I have introduced people here who are pizza fiends and they too have said the same. Ditto re service and value for money. I wish it could be kept a secret but that wouldn't be very helpful to them and it's good to share!

Have been here a few times with friends. Great informal atmosphere and the food is excellent. Relatively straightforward menu, but the quality is superb.

Had no idea they served pizza, wood burning oven, very happy with my chioce, the diavola!! great staff, will def be back!!

Great authentic Sicilian food served with personality, in a warm friendly Mediterranean atmosphere in the heart of the City , great beers ...all come with good prices...and last but not least fantastic and funny crew led by the 'mighty' Luigi...what a lovely host! Really Looking forward to my next lunch break...

Di solito non mangio italiano fuori Italia, temendo di restare deluso. Infatti le poche volte che l'ho fatto ho mangiato male...Quasi.Al City Pride ho mangiato Italiano, anzi siciliano, anzi messinese...di buona qualità. Complimenti : in caso di nostalgia culinaria, a Londra è un locale da sfruttare.

Simply put... Just outstanding... Pizza was amazing, the place is filled with smells of pizza and garlic. The excitement the owner/chef gives off while making the pies is a rarity. Best pizza in the UK so far.

In the future I would go at a time that was less busy than a Friday night, as it seemed very popular and I am a miserable old man, but the upstairs was quite, the food lovely and the service friendly so well worth a visit, even more so if you like people.

I've been going to this faboulous Italian pub since the very first year I came to London, more than three years ago. I'm italian, notoriously very fussy about food. I guarantee that at City pride you will find the best and the most digestible pizza in London. But this is only the beginning. Luigi, the owner, offers you a multiple choice of handmade specialties from Sicily, his hometown. Just follow his advice and you won't be disappointed. Very crowdy at Fridays, very cosy on the weedays, perfect for a family meal. This is a little restaurant more than a pub. The best of the two.

Just slightly hidden away one minute away from Farringdon Station is a pub that serves excellent Italian food.The price is fine (£12.50 for one of their specialty dishes of Sicilian meatballs and pasta) and the ambiance is good - I liked the leather sofas. Given the quality of the food I cant understand why it isn't more full....the only thing I can think of is that it is just slightly out of the way by itself.Which provided it doesn't close is good news for the traveler.I have also had pizza there from their very large pizza menu and it too was excellent.So - what's not to like?The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that i haven't yet eaten enough of their menu ....but I'm working on it

You'd walk right past the City Pride. It looks like you bog standard London / Fuller's pub. Try the pizza!!!! I've been to Italy - Naples, the home of pizza - and I can tell you, the CP offers some of the tastiest, most authentic pizza I've had in London. There is a lot of pizza competition in the city, and much of it isn't authentic at all, but the City Pride does incredible pizza. Cooked from scratch (open kitchen so you can see your pizza being made), stone baked, and made by Italian staff. Alcohol is as expensive as you'd expect in central London, but the pizza is such great taste and value, you won't mind!

Had a meal here with a few friends the other night. The food is high quality - well considered and prepared and the service was good too. Nice informal atmosphere - good place to meet.

I was looking for a nice restaurant where to eat, so following the tripadvisor rating i choose to give to City Pride a try. Despite looking at the inner style it looks like a pub, and the menu list is not a long one, the overall result is a very pleasant place where eat some tasty traditional italian dishes and have chat in an informal atmosphere. A pub/restaurant, with a taste of italian classy dishes, to remember for many informal/friendly occasions.

Nestled in this pub you'll find Luigi, who is cooking some of the best Italian - Sicilian food we've ever had. Light as a feather pizza with actual cep mushrooms on it, and a salad made specially for my friend who said she wanted 'a florentine pizza salad, without the pizza'. So he made spinach, egg, and lots of other things into a beautiful bowlful for her. Service was charming. Even though it's also a pub, the two functions seem to go quite well together as the main seating area for dining is set apart (although you might be on a sofa, but we found that was fine). I'd really recommend this place - and Luigi also works as a private chef, in case you're planning a wedding or something similar!

Went to the City Pride recently for a friend's birthday party and had such a good experience I felt compelled to write a review. Staff were fab, Luigi is an excellent host, and very proud of his food which by the way is amazing. Lovely fresh Sicilian inspired menu - my friend had arranged for them to provide some nibbles for the party which when they came out were so impressive that myself & my partner decided to go to the restaurant & have dinner there. Very accommodating, no request was too much trouble. Would strongly recommend for larger parties or a nice meal out.

Booked for 12 people during a lunch time for a leaving do for a colleague. Booked 1 week in advance and advised that vegetarians were amongst the diners. 1 hour 10 minutes later our food arrived, have to say food was average. Frozen chips from a bag, not on for those prices. Like a scene out of Fawlty Towers, everything off the menu. Waitress was like a rottie sucking a wasp. Experience not to be repeated, pull your socks up and deliver a quality service.

What a surprise. The new management has really turned it around. Superb food!! Fantastic value......
