Cinnamon Tree in Monmouthshire

As someone who has eaten at many Indian/ Bangladeshi restaurants over the last 35 years, the quality of the food , service and value for money at the Cinnamon Tree was up there with the best. All the meals were perfectly cooked and served piping hot. Will definitely be back.

My wife and I ate here tonight, Christmas Eve, as a special treat. Great welcome, great service, wonderful food. Indian food as good as, if not better, than anywhere else locally. We were so impressed we've booked for New Year's Eve. I thouraghly recommend the Cinnamon Tree to lovers of Indian food.

I have been around the world from London to Bombay eating Indian food/cuisine. I think it would be impossible to beat Indian food in India - BUT this is one of the best places to eat in this area. The standard is high, food is fantastic !, prices are so, so reasonable (they should charge more....). I love Indian food, even been to India a couple of times. Also went to the oldest Indian restaurant (in London) "Veeraswamy", very expensive but quite nice. THE CINAMON TREE is every bit as good. Staff are attentive, prices are too cheap and the food is outstanding. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed. I guarantee it. Paul from Abergavenny

Excellent meal, infact the best curry I've ever had. They adapted a meal for me which was peneer Korai. I'm a vegetarian and this was fantastic. My partner had a chicken Dopiaza and enjoyed it a lot. We also ordered a cheese nan which we've never seen before and an onion rice which I've never seen before. Both were very tasty and we enjoyed a lot. Can't wait to visit again when we're up this way. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were lovely and friendly. The restaurant was spotless.

We love it here. Food is really delicious and staff super friendly. We generally try and visit once a month. Lovely dips and bhajees and the Biriani is great with lively fresh veggies added to the rice. Our FAV Indian EVER!!

Really delicious food. We each had different dishes: Madras/Balti/Passanda. Couldn’t fault any of them. Friendly staff too. The only downside: When I phoned to book a table I asked about wheelchair access & was told it was suitable. However on arrival there’s a small step & a steeper one to get into the restaurant & no disabled toilet facilities.

Visited Wales for the first time and this is the best curry I’ve had to date and I love curry! So delicious and the service was excellent. I wish this place would relocate to London!

A very friendly, good quality and value Indian restaurant. We took youngsters there early, and all the staff were very helpful, high chairs provided and were extremely pleasant with the toddlers. Even gave them some free ice-cream! I had special fish bhuna, was really nice. All the meals were great. No complaints Definitely will return and have takeaways from here. Thank you

Myself and 2 friends attended here last night (booked in advance) and we were extremely pleased with the food. The restaurant was quiet so there was no real need to book but i guess that's normal for a Tuesday evening. I had the Chicken Tikka Dupiaza which was beautiful - the sauce was plentiful and you could really taste the onion was the base of the dish, as it should be with a Dupiaza. Keema Rice was lovely. Both of my friends really enjoyed their dishes as well, one was quite surprised at the cost for a Butter Chicken coming in at just short of £15 but to be fair, she did say it was worth every penny (most other dishes are priced as you would expect for an Indian Restaurant). The service was perfectly pleasant from both the Manager and the server - we will definitely be returning for our Monthly Curry Nights.

We recently visited The Cinnamon Tree on a Sunday evening for dinner. Due to a change in plans, we didn’t arrive until 20:30 (hadn’t booked a table), however the staff were very accommodating despite it being fairly late. We ordered poppadoms and a chutney tray, followed by staters of chicken chat and prawn puri. The puri wasn’t something I’d tried before, but had read previous reviews where people raved about it, so decided to give it a go, and I was definitely not disappointed! Really tasty and something I’d have again next time. For mains we ordered chicken tikka pathia, chicken korai, chips and a garlic naan. The spices in both curries were beautifully balanced and we thoroughly enjoyed them both (I couldn’t finish all of mine, but the staff kindly boxed the rest up for me to have for lunch the following day!). It’s worth mentioning as well that all the food came out piping hot from the kitchen, so you didn’t feel like it had been sitting around at all. Along with a few of pints of Cobra, the bill came to £60 which I thought was very reasonable for such a great meal. I’d definitely return in future and 100% recommend.

Maybe an off night but chicken tikka and bombay aloo is not diffecult to do, chicken was not marinated at all, just sliced white breast, bombay aloo was just tasteless potato mush. Very poor indeed. Back to the Balti Delight I think.

I tried one of the new menu items this evening (Kata Mansher Masala - vindaloo hot) which was superb..... Flavoursome with a great balance of spice. There are a few other new additions too, which I’m looking forward to trying over the coming weeks.

Found this via tripadvisor when on a recent family break in the area. What a find. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. There are probably curry houses with posher tables, cutlery etc but the things that matter, food, service and price are absolutely fantastic....

We were four adults in our party which had booked a table in advance. We were given a nice friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our table. We ordered drinks before studying the menus, all requesting different meals. The lady serving the table was particularly very friendly and smiling, helping to warm the atmosphere. Our meals were all tasty and well cooked,however my meat content a feel was a little sparse. Perhaps I am a little greedy but having waited all day to dine out I needed more, thus I have deducted a point. Overall everything was lovely and we will certainly revisit in the future. Thank you Cinnamon Tree and Thank You Chancellor for the discount. Dining on a Monday evening is a little disorienting it has mixed my week up.

A party of 18 of us booked in for a meal and we were well catered for, we asked for the chef to prepare food that wasn't necessarily on the main menu. The meal was excellent, and we were treated to a selection of home style cooked dishes, it was a nice experience to eat traditional cuisine. It was fantastic, would definitely dine here again.

Indian food always dances with the imagination, smells, colours and mouthwatering flavours, disappointingly none of the above came to fruition at the Cinnamon Tree in Abergavenny. I enquired as to why the restaurant felt decidedly cold, "we have a cellar, and a lot of the heat escapes throught it" was the reply. Ok fair enough, perhaps the food would distract me but oh no, the misery would continue, I'm a pretty good cook and I quickly realised the spice mix on some of the food was all wrong. The sauces looked rushed too, bland and flavourless. A miserable experience at every level.

The staff at the cinnamon tree are very helpful, kind and understanding as my dad is celiac and they tell him whether he can have the dish he wants or not. The chef's there are also very good and the food is excellent

Over the years we've always chosen the Cinnamon Tree for ordering takeaway as it's simply the best option in town for Indian food.

Three of us ate here, one vegetarian, all enjoyed food. Lamb bhuna especially good, as was veg biryani and chicken tikka. good service and reasonably priced.

We had just returned from a long train journey and hope to get a meal, although we hadn't made a booking. We were shown a table immediately, staff were attentive, and the food came within a reasonable time. The combination of dishes complemented each other, all were a generous portion and we had just the right quantity. The quality was good, although the lamb in the passband was rather overcooked.

We eat here every week and are always pleased with the quality of the food and service. My favourite dish is the chicken shashlik with a garlic cheese nan bread.

Hosted by charming Ron we had a great evening. Delicious food, excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble for Ron and his team. Highly recommended and will certainly eat here again.

We went about 8 0 clock, the restaurant had a few customers. The manager greeted us and let us choose a table which was nice. The restaurant was well staffed, clean and welcoming. We ordered a prawn roll, mixed grill, and spicy chicken curry. The prawn roll was a little tasteless, the mixed grill had lots of flavour but was not presented as a mixed grill, more like a curry. Furthermore, the spicy curry was not spicy which was a bit of a disappointment. I appreciate that when I sometimes go with young children, they don’t want to make it too spicy but if I ask for spicy then I want spicy. My children can handle the odd spicy curry. I love a good curry and if the menu says you use a unique blend of spices then I want to be able to taste them. I would recommend this restaurant to people who like mild food, nothing to spicy/ daring/hot

We haven’t been here for a while. Ordered a takeaway & were really disappointed, our starters were absolutely tasteless. The curry that should have been quite hot was just about comparable to a medium curry but at least have some flavour, however I have never had lamb tikka meat so tough it was hard to chew / cut. Don’t think we will be going back !

Choose the eat here at last minute and was surprised to get a table last minute on a Friday night. I know why now as there were only 2 other tables eating there at 8pm and by 9 new were the only table.Not sure why it was so quiet on a Friday? Anyway we had a lovely meal, really tasty and good value. The gentleman who served us was really lovely and helped with our choice of dish. We wish there were more people in the restaurant to add atmosphere but we still had a good meal and was well looked after.

This used to be our absolute favourite place to eat before we moved away. We returned for a visit recently and my daughter insisted we go back. I don’t know if there has been a change of managed whilst we have been gone, it just didn’t quite hit the spot in the same way. The food was nice, staff were friendly but just didn’t stand out as it used to.

Visiting the area and after the fine dining fancied a curry. Looked at reviews and weren't disappointed. Quiet midweek night but still a nice atmosphere. Good range of options on menu and generous portions (we ended up taking it home). Recommend homemade chicken pakora and fish dishes. Excellent tarka daal. Whole party very pleased with our meal.

We arrived to find it was ‘banquet night’ - Wednesday. That was great: poppadoms and chutney, starter of your choice and a main of your choice then ice cream to finish. Very nice Shiraz. Couldn’t be better, really.

We tried the new banquet night which is on a Wednesday; the food was up to it’s usual standard and the night represents great value. £12.95 (I think) for poppadoms, a starter, a main, a side and dessert... well worth a visit.

We are a group of friends who visit this restaurant regularly, todays Visit to The Cinnamon tree was even better.

So pleased to have discovered this place whilst exploring the area a couple of years ago. Went back again last week and the food was just as delicious as we remembered. There were three of us and we all tried different dishes and agreed that this was exceptionally good food. I am vegan and (as is usually the case in Indian restaurants) I was catered for without any problem. Service was prompt and polite too.

Just had a takeaway , Tried the Shaslick chicken which was very different from usual choices but enjoyed it , good flavours nice amount of chicken and great veg , Came with naan and salad. My wife had the Korma and like a lot of Curry Houses in Wales the curry is quite sweet , They put some pompadoms and dips in for nothing which was a lovely touch . Will definitely go back

We dined on a quiet Sunday in December where we had the place pretty much to ourselves. The set menu was very generous and everything was very tasty! Service was attentive and friendly. Its the sort of place I would return to if i lived locally as it was so reasonable and you really got the feeling that they cared that you were having a good meal. Highly recommended.

The food here was delicious. Me and my husband shared 2 really tasty vegetable curries, both slightly more unusual dishes than you would normally get. One of the best curries we have ever had. Would definitely go back.

We were aware that another Indian Restaurant had opened in Abergavenny and it was only when looking at Trip Advisor that we saw it had climbed to No. 2 in the best liked, so we tried it tonight just before our visit to the wonderful Borough Theatre ( don't let it die!) to see the equally super Dire Straits tribute band Dire Streets.

Several of us visited the Cinnamon Tree in late June. The food was excellent, as were the staff. The owner was knowledgable and friendly.

There are several Indian restaurants in Abergavenny but we made a great choice with the Cinnamon Tree. The restaurant is not large, but our host / waiter was both efficient and helpful. And, the food was excellent. Just the right heat, quantity and very tasty. We'd recommend a visit.

I order a take away from the Cinnamon Tree every Friday night. The food is always delicious and the staff are courteous and go out of their way to provide excellent service.

Looked this restaurant up on trip advisor and saw that it had some good reviews. We have been disappointed with our local Indian restaurant lately and have been looking for somewhere to renew our love. This has certainly done that, 2 starters, lovely spiced and hot. 2 mains excellent qualiity, best naan I've had for years. If only we lived closer....

In Abergavenny on a Sunday evening most restaurants are closed. We found the Cinnamon Tree on TripAdvisor so strolled along. We were not disappointed. The restaurant was quite small but not cramped. The food was delicious - we just couldn't eat it all. After our meal we enjoyed our chat with Ab, the waiter. A really good evening all round. Would definitely recommend.
