Cinnamon in St Albans

Avoid this place. Very poor service. Unbelievably slow to take orders and the delivery of food was chaotic and disjointed. Main courses were delivered and the rice dishes came ten minutes later, by which time the main courses were nearly cold. We had two conversations with the manager regarding the service. He was completely disinterested, rude to one of our group and offered no solutions to the issues we raised. Considering the amount of the bill when it came, Some consideration could reasonably have been expected. Don’t waste your time and cash with this place. There are far better restaurants in the area to choose from.

The staff were lovely and made excellent recommendations. The food was tasty and good value for money. The restaurant is nice, we visited on rainy Thursday night so it wasn’t very busy, but there was still a nice environment with good background music.

All dishes tasted the same. Waiter kept knocking into my chair and shouting at another waiter. Plus my friend has been charged twice on receiving his bank statement, besides reassurances at the time this wasn’t the case.

It was a great place to eat there, it is better than their local competitors when it comes to food and environment cozy and beautiful.

Menu differs from average. Good flavours and service. I like and have returned many times

Absolutely terrible service. Only one waiter for the whole restaurant. Turned up with a table for 12 and had to wait 30 minutes for them to even take our drinks order! Brought the wrong food out after 2 hours waiting. Will never go again.

Worst service I have ever had in any restaurant, only 2 staff covering restaurant and takeaway, drink orders forgotten, order for food not taken, very poor service all round.

Really didn't feel like cooking so had some takeaway from here tonight, via Uber Eats. The restaurant were great - they even called to check that I wanted the Prawn Biryani and see how hot I wanted it. Very friendly staff and delicious food. The Brinjal Bhaji was particularly good but it was all of a really high standard, and I loved their wide array of veg dishes (and I'm half-Indian so I know good Indian food when I taste it!). Food arrived hot and on time. Will def order from them again - great guys, great food, great service! P.S. If you're feeling a bit adventurous, try the Komra All - it's like whole lentils stir-fried with a slightly bitter gourd called Calabash (I know it by the Hindi name, dudhi). Different and delicious!

Do not order takeaway from this restaurant. Ordered at 7pm paid on the phone and it turned up at 8.35. Everyone we spoke to told a different version of the same lie - it’s 10 minutes away. When the food did arrive it was distinctly average and I’m being fairly kind. Very overpriced and we was robbed! What a shame Sarakh didn’t pick the phone up. Never again.

Came here for my 18th birthday meal with friends back in 2018, they gave me a chocolate birthday cake free of charge, super friendly and delicious hot, good portioned food! Will definitely come back here again, thank you so much!!!

I have to say, as far as food quality goes, I would have given a 5 star rating. However after waiting an hour and a half for the delivery of food, they forgot some of our order. When I contacted them back they told me they would inform the driver but it was never delivered. Our food cost £55 for 3 meals and when the sides and papadams that were ordered didn't come with the mains, that spoiled the meal. For this reason I will not order from here again. Thanks for taking our money and not producing the goods, criminal really!

We thought will have a quite night so visited the place on Sunday with family we had to call staff over to take our drink orders twice staff was ignorant and struggled to explain menu as language barrier no smile what so ever. though food was tasty, we will give it one more try but you need better staff that makes better service.

Went to Cinnamon last night with some friends and it was outstanding. It is everything you want from a nice curry house. The food was delicious, everything was very clean, and the service was excellent. The guys who worked there had a great sense of humour and were very accomodating, even taking a picture of us when we went outside afterwards. I have also been here with my girlfriend previously and she loved it aswell. Overall, would recommend to anyone.

We have loved this restaurant and takeaway over the years but the last couple of meals have been lacking the great, old flavours and brilliance. I am disappointed and hope it hasn’t gone full stop. Perhaps I’ll give it one last try, for old times sake.

We decided to Cinnamon again after about six months & we were not disappointed. A very warm welcome when we arrived especially as we haven’t been here for a while. The food was lovely & fresh & hot, together with a tasty bottle of wine we had a great evening. We won’t leave it so long next time.

A lovely curry house. Food is absolutely superb in there. Loads of positives just let down by price seemed excessive. We paid £120 for 4 main courses, one starter and a bottle of wine. Any way I looked at it I still cant understand how it came to so much. But the food really is worth a try.

Had a great curry here. Lovely fresh food and generous portions. Excellent service from all the staff. Highly reccomend as I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this one definetly rates as one of my favourites.

I have regularly taken out from this curry house. My favourite dish is the purple tiger, very tasty prawn dish. The curries are a bit more than other curry houses, but I think it's worth it.

Five of us visited here early on a Friday evening. We were afforded a very warm welcome to start. The food was exceptionally good with very large portions. Service from start to finish was attentive. I'd have no hesitation in revisiting

We were here as a large party , booked well in advance but unfortunately the venue was not able to cope with this party as well as other diners.The staff worked very hard to get everything right but it fell slightly off kilter.More staff needed , bigger bar area to cope with demand and maybe better lay out for big parties.Food average on the night but would visit again to see if this was a one off.Sorry

Cinnamon is at a good location of Harpenden city, easy to reach. Restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean. Staff was attentive but not very friendly, except its Owner/Manager. May be they are not that fluent in English language. Food was good but taste was not that authentic Indian. It was more Bengal taste rather than Indian. Overall food was OK. In toilet there was no wash basin to wash hands.

Friendly service - a member of our party of 11 had a birthday and they brought out a surprise cake with candles free of charge!

6 of us ate here on Saturday. Always busy and would advise booking. Visited many times before and never disappointed. A fabulous menu with many different things to the usual Indian restaurants

Just love this place. The food and the staff are the best in Harpenden IMO.

Had not been here for a while. So disappointed. It was expensive and the food was not good. The sauces were very similar and bland but with a large chilli thrown on the top to represent the hotter dish we ordered. The wines are also way overpriced for poor quality wine.

Not a great atmoshpere inside and the quality of ingredients are average... would recommend Cafe Jeera over this place if you're on the look out for an indian in Harpenden

Last Sunday my wife and I had a craving for curry. We decided to revisit Cinnamon as we have always enjoyed the food there and our young son likes to fuse East meets West with chicken tikka and chips.

Good Indian restaurant with some interesting dishes, can get very busy and tables are close together. Service could be quicker.

Cinnamon is a firm favourite with our family but a recent takeaway experience means we are unlikely to order again. It took an hour and a half (and a chase up call) from when we ordered to the food arriving, and when it did the food was pretty cold. It was a Saturday night and it was about 1 degree outside so we could forgive the wait and we gave it a quick whiz in the microwave, no big deal. However, the chicken madras was poor, chunks of tasteless chicken that had been cooked in bulk separately and added to a stock sauce at the last minute. The sauce itself was thin and like a soup with little taste and certainly not the heat level of a madras. The chicken shashlik was dry and without taste. The other main dishes were however quite nice so a mixed bag. It would have been nice to receive a few complimentary popadoms, given the amount we spent.

Superb food. Tastes really fresh, can taste all the spices. Definitely try the chef's Dil Jalani if you like fairly hot curries. Amazing.

We've been enjoying the food at Cinnamon for a few years now. Every time we visit, we can be sure of a warm welcome and fantastic food. The banquet nights (Mon-Weds) are excellent value. Definitely our favourite restaurant in Harpenden.

A group of 10 of us visited on a quiet Monday night in October to celebrate a birthday.

My husband and I always ate here when we lived in Harpenden. Some of our best memories! Amazing food, amazing service.

Visited on a quiet Monday evening with a nine friends. Attentive service and pleasant atmosphere. We had pappadams and chutneys, and starters. For the main course the waiter suggested a range of dishes according to our preferences. As on previous visits the various main dishes tasted somewhat similar and lacked the wow factor one would expect for the money. The food was all well cooked and nicely presented. The food, a couple of drinks each and tip was £30 each. Afterwards the waiter offered complementary brandies. This restaurant deserves a higher ranking than the current 57 out of 78 on Trip Advisor.

Las dos últimas comidas aquí no han sido buenos. Este solía ser un muy buen restaurante, pero algo ha cambiado. El servicio era bueno y cogieron nuestras bebidas y pedidos rápidamente, sin embargo los platos estaban fríos, ya que todos los platos; de hecho, sólo era nuestro principal comidas que no estaban fríos, quizás porque estaban sentados en los platos calientes. Mi plato principal también nadar en petróleo/ghee. Nadie vino a preguntar si las comidas estaban bien y el restaurante era conseguir ocupado así que no queríamos hacer una escena, pero terminó dejando un montón de comida. Lo mencionamos cuando me aclararon los platos. El camarero dijo que iba a mencionar a la cocina y preguntó si el arroz estaba mal? ! A la mañana siguiente los cuatro tuvimos malestar estomacal incluyendo me, que es vegetariano. Por supuesto, esto podría ser desconectadas de la comida. Además de la comida fría, que han aumentado sus precios, así que era una comida fría muy caro. Sin duda ahora fuera de nuestra lista hasta que las cosas mejoren.

Siempre me dan mi comida para llevar de canela y siempre fantástico pero apenas he comer en el restaurante. Comí allí hace dos noches y fue genial. El servicio era genial, la comida era excelente y el Baileys en la casa al final de la comida es un buen toque.

Hemos comido aquí varias veces y siempre han sido recientemente impresionados por la amabilidad del personal y la variedad de platos. No entiendo algunos de los comentarios negativos de otros? Relación calidad-precio razonable. Definitivamente volveré de nuevo en el futuro.

Excellent for a local Indian. Good menu with more than just the regular dishes. A record 5 chutneys served with poppadoms. The mains were very good and generally I think this was thee best Indian I have been to in the area.

The food is consistently tasty, which is the number one measure, surely (Jerra is better on its good days but frequently awful).The problem with Cinnamon is that it falls in to too many cliches. - the decor would not be out of place in the 1990s - an army of waiting staff- difficult to predict if your meal will appear in a flash or after two drinks or more and that is adjusting for how full the restaurant might be.- the black box of the bill calculation. All those dishes and drinks added up into one number with no backup, just the knowledge that if you diligently work it out yourself you only get to 80% - 90% of their total. No progress if you ask for a recount either.On balance enjoyable food and friendly staff but the price is high before the black box effect and worse after.

Having seen the reviews perhaps they had an off day with service but let's face it we can all have a bad day!!Now to the food, it was tasty, enjoyable and a touch different to the norm and no way bland like some of the other curry houses in Harpenden.Open minded views are always important..Enjoy and relax..

A return visit on a Wednesday evening with 15 friends. We were the only customers all evening. Friendly welcome. Pleasant surroundings, with air conditioning, that was much appreciated on a very warm evening. For around £15 per head excluding drinks they provided pappadams, starters and a selection of main courses. I enjoyed the starters, but they were not to everyone's taste. As on previous visits the main courses were slightly slow to arrive. There was plenty of food. The mains were a bit bland and generally lacking that wow factor. A lot of onions in various dishes, and some of the vegetables seemed overcooked and lacking in variety. This is not my preferred Indian restaurant in Harpenden.

Delivery driver tried to charge me for delivery when I live under 3 miles away. When I disagreed and showed him on Google maps, he argued with me. Eventually he backed down. When I phoned the restaurant to complain I was called a 'bad customer anyway'. Unbelievable!!!! Whatever happened to 'the customer is always right'?? Food was actually quite good but counts for nothing if you are argued with and then insulted.

After trying 3 other Indian places in Harpenden and being told they didn't have high chairs this place was a welcome change! The food was absolutely perfect, but ask for the butter chicken without broad beans. (Unless you love large beans in your curry!)Appetizers came quickly and were delicious. Each dish had a distinct and different flavour. Mains were great, the butter chicken seems to be the more Bangladeshi style (not red and tomato-y). The staff was wonderful and very accommodating to our young kids (5, 1.5) No complaints at all.

I've had a number of curries from Cinnamon and have yet to be disappointed.I'm always warmly greeted on arrival and my order taken promptly.The food is delicious, especially the super hot chicken curry dish and the naan bread is so tasty.A firm favourite!

We were warmly welcomed, offered drinks and given menus. Food ordered we were left alone. Food arrived and was served, almost slung on the table by a surely waiter.Not the best Indian food Ive ever had, but enjoyable venue

We booked as a group of 10. Arrived at 7.15 and it took 30 mins to receive our drinks after which we placed orders. Nearly an hour later we started our meal. VERY long waits at every stage. I dread to think what time the two groups who arrived after us must have eaten.Can't help but feel the menu is too full to deliver at a reasonable pace (who needs 13 different rice choices?). Food was delicious for the Western palate although some of us would have liked a bit more heat in the meal but the evening was spoiled for us by very slow delivery and haphazard service.

We literally just had a takeaway delivered! We usually use Massalla village who are great, friendly and reasonable ! My husband ordered the food, the person taking the order was rude, he wouldn't tell us the cost of the food and also said we had to pay cash!! When the food arrived (cold) we had our £41.50 ready which we added up from the menu, he arrived only to tell us it was almost £60!! He said he'd honour the price but it was probably an old menu... The menu was put thru our door this morning!! He also then came back to our door a few minutes later to ask for an additional £3 for delivery!!!! We were disgusted to be honest as we never get charged delivery from anyone else let alone having just been charged £60 for a mediocre Indian takeaway!! The order was also wrong, missing a starter, & stone cold!! We told him our thoughts and also told him we would never use them again.. Nice customer service ... Would NOT recommend this place to anyone!

Had a really delicious meal here. A lovely restaurant and nicely decorated. I usually eat Indian food under duress, but have to admit I would look forward to eating here again.

My quest to find the best curry house in Hertfordshire continues. I have avoided going to Cinnamon for the last 4 years out of principal After living in Tooting for 10 years I know that good curry doesn't have to cost the world. As it is Cafe Jeera (probably the best curry house in Harpenden) has just bumped up its prices even further, so Cinnamon is no longer the most expensive. The food was good, but for the price I was expecting a little more (I would have given 3.5, but TripAdvisor have nothing to differentiate between average and very good). The restaurant is bigger than I was expecting and has a nice feel inside. The service was interesting. We were given a time limit to order, eat up, and get out. The odd thing was that it wasn't that late, and there were several other groups ordering and eating. Amongst the many dishes sampled I tried their highly recommended "Dosto King Prawn Roshni" - apparently, once experienced never forgotten. This proved to be entirely correct. We have never forgotten this dish as it set of an argument for about 5 minutes, as we couldn't work out which one was the prawn curry amongst the lamb and chicken dishes. The flavour was so unremarkably bland, the dish has become one that we have never forgotten. So they were correct on that score. The rest of the curry was good, and our experience wasn't unpleasant (apart from the deadline), I just don't think the prices are justified when there are better curry houses in Harpenden.

This is probably the best Indian in Harpenden . The food is so fresh you can tell the difference in quality compared to other Indian R. Service is first class, never rushed and you can park opposite in the car park - what a bonus!!!

We had what was supposed to be a five course banquet for £15.95. There were at least three courses, but I don't think I could identify five. The main course, which included many different dishes, as we were a large party, I would describe as monotonous. Many of the dishes tasted and looked much the same - just chicken or lamb in a spicey sauce. Service was on the slow side as usual in Cinnamon. The cost of drinks, on average one or two Cobras each, pushed the cost up to £24 per head. Overall okay, but not my preferred Indian restaurant in Harpenden.

Always have a really good take away curry from here, everyone is always satisfied with their food, I'd say it's the same price as most curries you'd pay for.

I was staying in the area on business and I was delighted to have stumbled upon this place by chance. The menu offers plenty of choice for the adventurous who would like to deviate from the usual curry house offerings and also all the usual favourites too. I highly recommend the chicken peshwari.

We visited this restaurant as a group of 14 people and none of us were happy with the pathetic service , lack of courtesy amongst the staff. The food was undercooked full of onions and lacked the taste.I personally had the worst Indian food of my life at this restaurant!!

A traditional curry house somewhat tucked away but well worth seeking out. Attentive service without feeling rushed. Would recommend the Rogan Josh chicken and mushroom pilau.

The location and decor may not be the most charming ever but in simple food terms, I think this place is arguably the best Indian restaurant in Harpenden.

We had a meal with neighbours in the restaurant earlier this year and really enjoyed the food. However we ordered a takeaway last evening and what a dreadful experience. The food took an hour to arrive and the chicken bhuna dish appeared to be just onions with undercooked chicken. I spoke to the restaurant and they agreed to replace the meal. The replacement meal although looking a little more like what I had enjoyed in the restaurant was bland and tasteless and coupled with stodgy nan bread made for an awful experience.I spoke to the restaurant who arranged for the manager to call me back regarding my feedback. When he called he did not seem concerned and that the meal should be better next time, to which I responded there will not be a next time.

The restaurant was busy but we were served efficiently within a reasonable time. Nice atmosphere, sudued lighting. Everyone was happy with their food. I have dined there several times before and it has always been an enjoyable evening. I think they are a little pricey compared with other Indians in Harpenden. On a couple of visits service was a bit slow, but they were busy, which indicates a good restuarant.

After having ordered what was an average meal with a hefty price tag (£20 minimum delivery) i must say that the man i spoke to upon ordering my food was most rude when i complained that my food had been delivered cold and rice was very hard - his response was 'put it in the microwave' which tells me that is probably how the food is cooked!And if your'e expecting to find a bag of free poppadoms (however large your order) then you can think again.NEVER AGAIN! you can find better indian takeaways in Southdown, which is just down the road and only £10 minimum delivery with polite staff and authentic fresh tasting food.

we went here last night wednesday 6 marchthe usual indian stuff was on offer poppadums jalfrezi biriani etcbut for us what was outstanding was the crocodile tears (chicken) tandoori chicken starter and the tandoori chicken king prawnsthe last dish was easily the best king prawn dish I have eatenservice was very good and the overall ambiance was fine for a wednesdayI note some of the 1 star reviews are 1 hit wonders ,hmmm....definitely an above average curry house,yes slightly pricey but you get what you pay for£108 for 4 with 4 courses and drinks was value to mewill return

I have been a few times to Cinnamon. On all occasions I have found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Oh, and the the food is great too. I like this restaurant - a lot !
