Chutney Spice in Chesterfield

A great find. Tuck away on the edge of Chesterfield. Food delicious and the prices very fair. Wide menu. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. A LITTLE GEM.

Lovely restaurant friendly staff yummy food 😋

1st visit and 1st impressions quite good. Looked welcoming however staff weren’t the friendliest upon entry. Food, from starters to main can only be described as poor. Four of us and all four meals were tasteless with the main ingredients being prawn and chicken being overcooked and rubbery. The poppedoms and pickle tray were ok. The chapatis were like old shoe leather and inedible. Charged £14 for four pints of coke which would have been acceptable if it hadn’t been warm, flat and out of a plastic bottle. Total bill of nearly £90 and the food and experience wasn’t worth half of that. Myself and my family certainly will not be returning.

I really hoped this was going to be nice especially after reading reviews but it was a huge disappointment, unless you’ve been on the all dayer round brim and then it would taste amazing. Truthfully..over priced, bland, over cooked, miserable staff (apart from the delivery guys waiting to collect they were smiling and helpful) and soft drinks served from a 1.5ltr warm bottle that was flat and…….cost £3.50 a pint. There is much better around, please don’t waste a date night or family night out here!

Without doubt the worst Indian meal we have ever had. Anyone who has rated over 2 stars has clearly never been to any other Indian restaurant. The food was not overcooked or raw. The only positives I can give. The meat hadn’t been marinated, none of the dishes had any flavour. The aromas that usually emanate from the kitchen were non existent. Paid over £60 for 2 chicken dishes, 2 pilau rice, sag aloo, 4 poppadoms, a pickle tray in which even the onions were not fresh & had no flavour. We dine at many Indian restaurants across the UK, but left very disappointed from here. Bland food & totally overpriced for the quality of the dishes. I’m pretty sure one of the reviews left on here is the English chef we saw leaving.

Was a really busy night but staff were really nice and food was tasty.

We celebrated Valentines Day with friends and had a great time! The food was fantastic! They offer dine in and takeaway. Will definitely go again!

This has quickly become our regular takeaway. We ask for delivery. The gent who takes the orders is always very polite and efficient. The food always arrives exactly as ordered, either early or on time. Very good portion sizes, and done very well. The delivery driver is very polite. Can't complain about anything.

Table booked wasn't ready and then imposed £20 charge for 2 no show which would have caused them a problem food was ok but very sweet

Absolutely lovely food- plenty of vegetarian options, great variety of dishes. Fast and friendly service, we got our meals in no time! Accessible loos and entrance. Great little place, really tasty food and vast menu 😋 Reasonable prices aswell.

Top food yet again and top service see you again in 2024

It's definitely the best curry in Chesterfield and has been for a long time. However we visited on a quiet weeknight and there was a big table of us and found the team slightly unfriendly this time. I wouldn't say out right 'rude' but a little sharp and as we were leaving for instance, I said thanks and bye to 3 staff stood at the till/bar and didn't receive a response from any of them. A little disappointing but food still lovely

Naan bread was old curry was good

I was abit disappointed with the butter chicken . Too much coconut, taste and texture . Was not aware of that much coconut in the dish .Also I think it should have been written

Lovely meal as always. Not been for a while as quite honestly can't afford to but this was a treat. The prices have definitely increased but hasn't everywhere. Good choice and nice food. We ate as a family with our 6 year old and they were very accommodating. Lovely food and will go again for our next treat.

Just on way home from cruise. Staying hotel nearby. Chutney spice is fab. The food was outstanding. Just like the customer service by Saf the waiter. The atmosphere was brilliant. As i was a solo diner. Wish we had Indian restaurant like this in Horncastle area .

Been twice in a month.... Ordered lamb and got chicken.... Ordered chicken and got lamb on last two visits. Ordered mushroom rice and got pea rice???? This has happened on the last two visits... What is the issue? Can the chef not read the waiters writing? Do they not know the difference between the two meats?.... Very disappointed as I was sat with no food while rest of party was eating.... Staff parading while eating, can't wait to clear your table. Very uncomfortable

Rogan Josh just a plain paste no body or taste to the curry, tikka masala no flavour very watery , chicken nice and tender rice good,naan bread small no garlic , over all not good , still looking for a good Indian in chesterfield

Ordered a take away consisting of two veg dishes and a lamb dish along with nans, while it was tasty the disappointing thing about it was every dish tasted the same, they seem to have used the same sauce and masala for every dish which kind of defeated the object of ordering three different dishes. i won't bother again.

Had some really nice food here, lots of choice on the menu for everyone. My drink of coke was very flat and room temperature, I suspect it was just out of a bottle so bear that in mind when ordering.

We were late to our table... Which was OK as they were busy... A group of ladies waited an hour and a half for their table. Ordered a lamb and a chicken dish for our mains... Both came out with lamb.... Questioned this and they said that is what we ordered.... My husband doesn't eat lamb... So why would he order it... They changed it... But the lamb dish was so salty and fatty.... We brought some home and again they gave us both the lamb dishes.... The mushroom rice had a couple of mushrooms on it... That's all. The waiters need a personality transplant....no interaction at all..... But I will praise one of them who took some money off our bill for the misunderstanding.... Won't be returning any time soon though

After recommendations from friends, I ordered from this restaurant for the first time and paid for a takeaway at 17:45, I was advised it would arrive in a maximum of 1 hour and 15 minutes. 2 hours elapsed and it still hadn’t arrived. I constantly tried to ring them and could not get through, when I eventually get through and speak to a member of staff they just gave excuses that they were busy. I was put onto the manager and was told that the driver was on his way and would be here in 5 mins but he could not say when the order left the restaurant, I was on the phone another 5 mins with the manager and the driver still didn’t arrive in this time. I requested a refund and the manager said he would refund my order - I will await to receive this refund and if it is not received I will look to take further action.

Hi we visited your establishment last night and I'm sorry to say it wasn't a enjoyable time, my daughter found a hair in her meal ,not once but twice, we asked to speak to the manager but we never got the chance, as soon as we finished our meal we got brought the bill,my daughter wasn't charged for her main meal but we never got a apology from anyone, needless to say we will not be frequenting your restaurant anytime soon ,this is from some one who came regularly a apology would have sufficed ,one dissatisfied customer.

Food came out which was really nice until I cut into my onion bajhi and found a hair In it then I was eating my main course and then I was nearly finished and found another hair grey hair asked to speak to the manager wasnt allowed then the young waiter came across and asked us if we would like our bill so we said yes please they had taken my meal off the bill but we didn’t even get an apology from them let’s say we won’t be going back anytime soon

Ordered a take away selection and nothing was good. Bhaji's were overcooked and dry, meals were all sauce with hardly any meat and the rice looked and tasted like it was from a packet. This was to share with guests so thought we'd give it another go but was so disappointed in the quality of the food. Never again....save your money.

A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint, we will definitely be returning both me and my partner enjoyed our meals ! Service was amazing was too

Went here after a day out and a few beers . Heard good reports regarding the place. Enter about 8pm place had 2 tables and was asked if we had booked . Was then shown to a table . The food was good and serviced in good time . Staff were not organised or very friendly which was a shame . Could have just been the heat . Food is well worth a visit

Used them for sit in meals before lockdown then takeaways throughout. They have been brilliant. The food is fabulous and they will tweak a dish to suit your taste. Looking forward to eating in the restaurant again.

One of the best curry houses in the area, and fantastic if you preference is for the Bangladeshi dishes. Be careful of the Scary Chicken

I’m afraid we normally only order from them but this time we was disappointed, it’s such a shame as I always praise them to others but the chicken was crunchy with like hard fat in it abs I have never had that before , also I was over charged. I questioned it on the phone that it was high but they said it was right , later I went through the menu and totalled it up and I was over charged but pounds not pence..... it’s a real shame

Eat here during a short break in Chesterfield. The food was delicious and could not fault a thing. Normally no other curry house compares to my favourite in Manchester but this was so on par. Would definitely recommend 👍

Ordered our takeaway at 7pm was told it would be an hour and 20 minutes max, long wait I know but worth it. So an hour and 20 minutes takes me to 8:20pm. It’s now 9:30 and our order still hasn’t arrived. I also rung at 8:30pm and was told 10minutes ..: load of rubbish. Rung again at 9:05 to be hung up on, rung again was speaking to a young man who disappeared and then another man come on asking if they could help.. he said 15minutes I said I was told 10 minutes half an hour ago he said well he lied. It’s now 9:58pm no sign of food so I’ve made a sandwich. Terrible terrible customer service would not recommend and will not be ordering again!

Chutney Spice never fails to produce great food with quality service. There is lots to choose from on the menu, with something for everyone. Definitely worth a visit, and is suitable for families/ friends/ couples/ business.

Visited on a Saturday night - booked fairly last minute but we were accommodated. There was social distancing despite what a previous review said - Every alternate table was used to ensure this. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and service could not be faulted. The food was absolutely wonderful - the best Indian meal I have had for quite some time - we enjoyed every mouthful - even though mine was a little hotter than I would normally eat. I would highly recommend and we will certainly be back.

Me n the wife went lastnight. To be fair it is our favourite local Indian restaurant. I had the king prawn chatt n then the house special khari for the first time. It was absolutely amazing. 10 out of 10. All washed down with the draft Cobra.Service was also excellent and swift.Many thanks Matt n Louise.

Went for a family meal first time in months. Hoping eat out to help out is beneficial for both diners and restaurant... To start with the social distancing isn’t possible-the place is to small( didn’t know before booking as never been). We ate and just wanted get out as soon as possible as felt overcrowded. Bill was a surprise, we did get discount alright but they’ve charged as extra £18 service charge!

Booked several tables to allow the family to out but not all together as different households.Shambles all together and on one long table. No changes made to layout and not spaced out enough. Uncomfortable all night. Had to brush past the 20 deep queue outside trying to leave. The door was open but the smokers outside were spoiling it as the smoke was coming inside.Absolute hell on earth.Not adhering to any guidelines just wanting the income which I get but not worth the risk.

We were new to this area and looking for a takeaway meal. We checked tripadvisor and based on the reviews we went ahead and ordered. It did not disappoint. We were delighted with our meal. The portion sizes were not too big and all dishes were really flavoursome. Very tasty. We would order from here again if we are back in this area or perhaps sit-in. The restaurant looked very nice.

Placed an order over the phone for a takeaway. When the delivery driver came to the door he didn’t know the cost of our order so took the food back to the car to confirm with the restaurant. After waiting at least 5 mins and no sign of the delivery driver we tried to get through ourselves as our food was going cold.We tried for at least 10 mins before we finally got through to be told the price, when we explained that we had been waiting over an hour for the delivery to start and then a further 15 mins whilst the food was going cold in the delivery drivers car for the restaurant to say it’s not their fault they’re busy and to put the phone down.Terrible customer service, will not be ordering from here again.

Very disappointed to have ordered a takeaway for the delivery driver to NOT know how much the takeaway cost?! When I myself rang the restaurant they ignorantly told me they were busy and put the phone down. Terrible customer service! Waited an hour for this and then ten minutes for delivery driver to get through to the restaurant he delivers for?!

My partner and I decided to give Chutney Spice a try as our first meal out after Lockdown. We had never now been before despite it being on our doorstep! Safe to say we will definitely be returning. The food was amazing- very fresh and each dish tasting unique. Social distancing measures were all in place, inside was clean and the staff very pleasant and attentive. Five stars from us!

Went with some friends on a recommendation they said how nice it was we turned up on a Saturday night and we ordered and all our meals we ordered different but they all looked the same the chicken supposed to be tandoori in the curry it was horrible no taste at all I sent mine back because there was no taste they brought a new one it was exactly the same we won't be going there again don't know what people seeing it food was very very bland not like a nice curry

I thoroughly enjoyed my takeaway, tonight. The peshwari naan and sag aloo are good. The korma is sweet and coconutty, but I like it all the better for that. The rice isn't exactly the pilau I wanted, having only one odd-looking spice, but I enjoyed it regardless. The mango chutney is good, as are the onions. All in all, I think it's excellent under the circumstances!

My boyfriend and I ( Paul) in the past have had nice meals and takeaways , ordered takeaway last Sunday never again feel like I wasted nearly 21 pound , tasteless , onion Bhaji was awful !!! Won’t be visiting or ordering again .

I was anticipating a great take away meal,Given the good reviews on here.However that was not the case.I ordered one of my favourite dishes Meat Ceylon,which is usually a hot spicy ,sweet dish cooked in coconut and finished off with fresh coriander. This was nothing like it.The dish was bland,had no sweetness,was not spicy hot and had no coconut or coriander in it.The prominent flavor was mainly tomato and cumin-very boring and unauthentic. The meat was tender though.The telephone service was good and the delivery.Unfortunately an incompetent chef let the side down I am sad to say and I am extremely disappointed.

Had chicken jalfrezi and chicken passanda both very tasty and accompanied by garlic naan, mushroom rice and onion bargi plus poppadoms good food delivery quickly. Thank you Chutney Spice.

Our table was booked for 8.30 and no-one had taken our order by 9.10.Love Chutney Spice but tonight the service was absolutely disgraceful. We had waited enough and we left without any food.A special day ruined.

Just had a meal delivered from here, found the king prawn butterfly & ghee rice very bland & cold. We did not expect the meal to be cold as only live a mile away. The only thing that was warm was the chicken tikka malaya. Will definitely not be ordering from here again.

We visited chutney spice restaurant Saturday night we made sure we booked a table in advance as we have been before and been turned away at the door as it was fully booked. On arrival we was welcomed by a old gentleman he was very welcoming and we was seated at our table. A young lady with fab tattoos came to take our drinks order and greeted us asking how our day had been which was very welcoming. We was very undecided what drinks to have as we couldn’t find the drinks menu and couldn’t see many draught drinks on the bar the lady asked us what we usually drink and listed the drinks which was very professional. I was undecided what white wine to have the lady gave me a taste of the house white wine which was lovely of her she was very efficient. When ordering the food the gentleman rushed to our table he looked very stressed and like he didn’t want to be at work he took our order and then dashed off quickly we was unsure why this happened as they was only 4 other tables eating and a lot of empty tables it wasn’t even busy for a Saturday night in a restaurant. When our main meals arrived they was delicious the masala was very creamy and sweet and the rice and bread was just rightly sized. The fab young lady brought our bill over to us while paying we was all chatting it felt like we had known the lady for ages she was extremely friendly. We will definitely be coming back for the super professional and fab service.

I unsuccessfully tried to book our usual Indian restaurant for straight after a football match weeks in advance only to find they were fully booked. So a last minute decision post match was to try Chutney Spice at Brim as I thought the ones on Whittington moor would be too busy and it was highly rated on trip adviser.

Had a takeaway deliver last Saturday night and it was the best Indian we have had. All meals were delivered piping hot, crammed with meat and tasted fantastic. Really good value for money too! Will definitely be ordering from here again!

We've eaten here fairly regularly for years, both in the restaurant and takeaway, and we've never had a bad meal. The food is always excellent, and the staff have always been polite and are great with our two children. It does get busy at peak times and later on as you'd imagine, but early on it's popular with families and for good reason.

Been using here for aprox 5weeks now and never had a bad meal, all the waiters are smiley and helpful and will advise on flavours nothing is too much trouble, it soon fills up in the restaurant early, i had paneer shashlick, my husband had a chicken dish,the food was presented lovely and tasted lovely i also had a tarka dhal that was so nice and it complemented my main, this is truly worth a visit but if you go be prepared to not get a seat for a while,we either book or turn up as early as 5.30pm, good food and not expensive

Having eaten at many Indian restaurants and having not read any reviews on chutney spice we were not sure what to expect. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We ordered starters and I went for something I hadn’t had before, fish bahji and I loved it, main courses were just as nice. I would eat here again.

Been all over the country and had some really good Indian meals however Chutney Spice is certainly one of the best spotlessly clean great service and great food with a Hugh verity

After a few beers with the Mrs, we fancied a curry. Now, a lot of the time there’s Spice without meat or vice versa. This place gets the balance spot on. I had a chicken madras - spicy with some good chunks of chicken, hot, but tasty. The Mrs had butter chicken which was nice, flavoursome and with plenty of meat. We had the Bombay aloo potatoes and egg rice, with a cheese naan. No starters and we still left full!

Almost on our doorstep well within walking distance. Great food great staff lovely cosy atmosphere and very affordable prices, the grandkids love it here.

food always really good, fresh and hot, only thing that annoys me with this place is there phone manner is shocking but food deffo makes up for would recommend.

Staff completely disinterested. Took over 40 mins after asking for the bill for us to receive it and even then we had to go up to the bar to pay for it. We were then presented with a bill that had a round of drinks on it that we had not received!!! When I alerted the waiter that we had not received this round of drinks he walked off and had to get someone else to take our payment! Food wasn’t bad actually so it’s dissapointing that the service was absolutely abismal. Will not be returning or recommending!

Not eaten in the restaurant but the takeaways are better than Indian blues,West bars and all the others we have tried in town.

The restaurant was clean, staff disinterested and 4 pieces of chicken in each main meal just isn't acceptable when paying the prices they expect.

Cannot fault. Ordered to collect and food was ready when we got there. Food delicious as always especially the Butter Chickens
