Chianti Mary is one of the Indian restaurants that has been awarded a Michelin Star. Advance reservation required. To be honest, the food is clean, but there are much tastier Indian places. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic and the service is frankly the best possible. Prices: very high

Overpriced and sugar laced cocktails. I was expecting food to be fascinating but it fell short of my expectations. Biriyani is a litmus test - rice was over cooked and didn’t hit the spot in terms of complexity. The moment I walked out I knew I will likely not go back.

If you don’t like spicy food, order biryanis. Unfortunately most dishes are extremely spicy for me ( what they call it mild ) and they don’t make it without spice.

The food was very good. The service was quite lackluster, certainly not what I would expect from the "best restaurant in London." We had to ask for water multiple times. The guy who was waiting on us seemed completely uninterested in our experience. Plus, for some reason it was very hot in the restaurant (it's late March and probably 50F outside). I was kind of disappointed overall. I almost forgot to add - something I had never seen before, on the menu it actually said each person at the table must spend at least £55. Seemed kind of cheeky.

Good ambience to start and staff was very warm in receiving and ensuring we are seated. The service is a bit slow, we had to wait for someone to take order everytime. Cocktails were good, loved the gold fashioned. The best in food was ghosh biryani without a doubt. Meat was so well cooked and spices were perfectly balance, a definite recommendation from our side!!

Full Review: Available @davidtriesitall on all social medias Chutney Mary London has been featured in the Michelin Guide and has been awarded the AA restaurant of the year award in 2023/24 along with 3 AA Rosettes Award for their culinary excellence. The interiors were stunning. The candlelight spaces with the dark wood and soft leather really creates this intimate luxurious setting especially as the low light bounces around the glasswares. It truly brought the classic luxury feels in. We had the following: Starters Tandoori Artichoke Hearts - £15.50 Baked Venison Samosa - £17 . For Mains Tandoori Lamb Chops - £42 Wild Venison Roghan Josh - £37 Lamb Biryani - £37 Naan - £4.85 . Desserts - Carrot Halwa Souffle with Pistachio Kulfi - £15 Gulab Jamun Tiramisu with Gold Leaf - £12 . The starters were absolutely top notch. The tandoori artichoke hearts were so flavourful. It had a slight tangy taste which was lovely. Couldn’t recommend more to try the baked venison samosas. It was so tender and packed with juicy flavour, it was amazing. I would go back just for that alone. . The mains didn’t hold back either. The tandoori lamb chops and venison Roghan josh were extremely savoury and delicious especially when paired with the garlic naan and lamb biryani. It definitely took it to the next level. . The desserts were so unique and exotic I loved it all especially their creative take on carrots and Souffle. Also the gold leaf was a nice touch and made what a luxurious night already even more classier. . This is definitely worth it in my books especially for special occasions. One if not the best Asian restaurants I've been to (and they have plenty of rosettes to back that up). The richness and flavours of the food are amazing. The venison samosa (not triangular) was amazing. I followed that with a special lamb curry that just fell off the bone and then melted in the mouth...with a subtle heat. Absolutely magic. Recommend 👍🏻

The atmosphere is beautiful, perfect lighting with great ambience. The food was delicious! The starters were my favourite part of the meal. The tokri chaat has so many flavours that work so well with one another and I love how the pomegranate adds to the colour and gives it that extra texture. The crab cakes were perfect with the tamarind sauce that it came with, it was easy to bite into and as fishy as I was expecting. I had the prawn curry, which at first I felt could be more flavourful but to my surprise the more I had the more the flavour enhanced. The coconut and chilli came through. The prawns were perfect, big and juicy as I like and easy to break into with my naan. They really know how to make a good garlic naan. I also got the aloo tuk as a side, as I was craving some potatoes. These were extremely flavourful, could taste that chaat masala. The potatoes were amazingly soft on the inside and it had a nice crunch outside which was satisfying to bite into. Drinks - I opted for the mango lassi. This was my least favourite part of the meal due to the lassi being more on the sour side rather than sweet, however it is not mango season so can only blame the mangoes. I also tried the mango nojito which I prefer as I wanted a sweet drink, it was decorated with pomegranates and mint. I would highly recommended and would love to go back to try more.

Excellent food, although a little expensive. The vibe is fabulous, but it does get rather noisy so conversation can be difficult. Do not go here if you are a group of young women, they will not take you seriously. A rushed experience with poor service and average, overpriced food… not fine dining. Our party of three went to Chutney Mary yesterday (Saturday 27 January) for dinner. My friend booked it for her 25th birthday and we had high expectations for what we thought would be a quality experience but turned out to be very average food with poor (verging on rude) service. I was ignored when I sat for ages without a menu. When my friends arrived, the waiter asked if we were ready to order, and we politely asked for two more minutes. He then got the manager to come to our table and tell us we had to order immediately because they wanted the table back at 9:15pm. Whilst I totally understand tables need to be cleared for other reservations, the manner in which this was done was distasteful and set a negative tone for the rest of the evening, as we felt rushed and as if their eyes were constantly on us. This is not what one expects from a fine dining restaurant where you should feel welcomed and relaxed, particularly as you are spending so much money. The lamb kebab is not a kebab. It’s just two overpriced pieces of lamb (ie not minced meat). Our two other starters - the paneer and chaat - were tasty. But you can get the same at any other Indian restaurant at a far more reasonable price. The dal makhani was nice, but we soon realised that it was FULL of oil. Whole puddles of oil on our plates. You’re better off going to Dishoom. We informed the restaurant it was our friend’s birthday. They kindly brought some chocolate ice cream for her, but the surprise was very much tampered by the fact that the waiter miserably lit the dessert at the table in front of her. We ordered masala tea to finish the evening. After 10 minutes, the manager told us there is none left because another party of 30 had consumed it all. We knew this was a bid to get rid of us so they could have the table back. The manager did not offer us anything else complimentary, knowing it’s a birthday celebration and we were visibly disappointed. A month ago we went to Gymkhana and we were given a free starter as an apology for something not being on the menu - that is real customer service. The bill was put on our table and we were pressured to leave. As three young Indian women, we felt consistently sidelined and not taken seriously. Very unprofessional.

Compared to Veeraswamy the taste of the food was nowhere close sadly assertion of the groups. Another thing was there were so many staff in the restaurant to attend other tables so was very conscious of them passing by. My question is do they need that many staff? Service was top-class very attentive. The ambience again is very good and could do with some either Indian Classical instrumental music or light Jazz. Room was somewhat dark so all those Instagrammers hoping for good photos just forget it. Oh they don't allow patrons to use flash photography either.

We called in the morning regarding an issue with our reservation where our reservation was cancelled and the problem was resolved by an extremely helpful member of staff. However I was in utter shock at the disrespect of the lady we talked to on the phone to notify her that we were running late this call was around 10:12 pm and the kitchen closes at 10:15 we did not know this and then when we called them we told them that we know what we would like, and to put through the order or cooperate with us, she had told us that if we don’t make in two minutes time she can’t help us (which is valid however the attitude was not and she made it clear we are not welcome.) I had this call on speaker and even the Uber driver was shocked at extremely unprofessional attitude and impatience of this woman. I didn’t catch the name of the lady however she as blond. We had talked to Mr. Sachil and we explained to him that we have been having so many issues and we were upset with the behaviour of the staff and so despite running late he sorted us out took our order and helped us with the menu, he was such a sweetheart and honestly chutney Mary is very lucky to have him because if it was not for him and the other servers I would have not recommended chutney Mary to anyone because extremely bad service of the receptionist. ‏ As for the food it was amazing I just hope they inform the receptionist that her behaviour was not appropriate and I cannot imagine how many customers would be put off with that attitude.

During the meal – we had to chase the waiter for the drinks ordered with our mealI’d expect a polished service from such a high end restaurant.Walked away – very disappointed.

Very impressed with our post lock down visit. Impressive covid cleaning details. Glad they still had the brunch menu which makes Chutney far more affordable. The food was even better than I remembered it to be. The paneer melted in the mouth. The signature tokri chaat vegetable filled potato basket a delight and the new vegetarian grill fabulous. Who knew grilled marsala sweet corn could be so soft. The only think lacking was atmosphere as the room was very empty and the music very soft I felt as if we needed to whisper ! I do miss the live music they used to have at brunch!

Visited Chutney Mary’s pre- Covid, loved the food and once restrictions were lifted went again.Food is still outstanding and presented so beautifully it’s not like ordinary curry. What impressed me most in these trying times is the lengths they have gone to that make you feel safe. There is a doorman taking your temperature before you enter. Hand sanitiser pumps (foot-operated) are at various locations and all bathroom doors have self-cleaning pads on all touchable surfaces. Waiting staff all wear visors, tables are well spaced and each place setting also offers an anti-viral wipe. However, none of these measures detracted from what was a delightful occasion.Well done Chutney Mary!

The decor is stunning but the food way over-priced. Understandably the menu was limited due to the recent and gradual re-opening but the prices of food and drinks are very expensive and not at all good value. One would expect top level service at these prices but several times it was a struggle to get hold of a waiter. Can get good Indian food elsewhere at much lower prices.

We can’t help but return to Chutney Marys time and time again. The food is outstanding, attentive service with friendly staff and the ambience in the restaurant is great. There really isn’t anything I can complain about, other than not living close enough to London to go more often!!Thank you for hosting another wonderful evening spent with family

Attended early in dinner service for an anniversary meal.I will keep this short. The food itself was very good, the tokri chaat in particular was well flavoured. The quality of food outdid Jamavar by far and also its sister restaurant Amaya, though the portion sizes are piddly. Ala Carte portions come more like tasting menu sizes. However, where this place was SERIOUSLY let down was the level of service. This place is pricey, our meal between two was around £168 (£20 for "service"). So what should set this place apart from a high class eatery and a good Indian restaurant should be the service, but this was significantly lacking.Plates were served and left without cutlery on several occasions. We felt left along for most of service, having to flag down staff members. Then it took almos 20-30 minutes for them to bring our coffee after ordering. The guys on the floor were working hard, however it was clear there simply werent enough staff to cover the floor. This really isnt acceptable given the price off a cover, and similar standard places such as Amaya and Jamavar had better service.I am torn, as the food was certainly great, perhaps it was an off night. We will give them another chance perhaps because of the food, but if another strike in service, I wont be giving them custom again. Please improve your floor service to match the price you charge!

The food is sublime with outstanding flavors. Service is stunning and, for me, it is a real jewel in St. James's. Quite simply it is one of the most fantastic dining experiences I have ever had. It's not cheap but you can't eat money. The dishes are like a culinary journey. I have been a few times and the atmosphere is wonderful

A lovely restaurant and very different to your usual place to get a curry. The food here was very tasty and the restaurant itself was a really nice place to be, and this all came at a price. My vegetarian plater came in at £24, and although the quality was clearly very high, I was expecting slightly more food. The indian Lager priced at £8 for 2/3s of a pint was also pretty steep. I visited here with a friend, but would say it's more of a place for a date. Overall, very happy with the quality of everything that I ordered.

Been wanting to come to this micheline Indian restaurant for a long time and got in last December. It was fabulous from the moment we walked in. Great bar for a pre dinner drink, and a lovely atmosphere. Not a rushed service and it was busy but all the staff were so helpful and accommodaing. Around £200 for 2 for dinner and drinks, but worth the experience.

Upon seating in this overly stuffy place they asked about allergies. We had theater tickets so asked to order efficiently and I had selected two items I was interested in. I told the waiter no walnuts, pine nuts or pecans but in ok with almonds, pistachios and cashews, commonly used in Indian cooking. He then sent out someone else who had a chart and I had to say the same again. Whereupon he very rudely informed me of the nit policy, that all foods could be contaminated and they use nuts extensively. I explained that I have not been anaphylactic and I can accept the risk of contamination but I just want items cooked without these three nuts. I hadn’t eaten since breakfast so I suggested my husband have a meal and I could have rice and or nan. Again the man persisted that I couldn’t eat anything. And so we left. He was very very rude. The menu noted only few items with nuts, I looked. If they’re really so pervasive that should be noted in the menu and online before you make a reservation. This cost us a nice night out as we came from out of town and no longer had time for a decent restaurant.

Have been here a couple of times - I'd gone to the Chelsea version and whilst the food / general ambience isn't quite as nice as it used to be, it still bangs as a restaurant. I would echo what some other reviews say that the beers are overpriced, £8 for a bottle with your curry leaves a slightly bad taste in the mouth. Also would suggest that you live up to your name?? One of the best things about the Chelsea restaurant was that they offered delicious side servings of chutneys - now you have to go out of your way and ask and the staff seem almost confused!!! Chutney is a MUST. Bring back the funky flavours I say! I wonder if having some roaming magicians would help the atmosphere too...?

Lamb chops were excellent but expensive for the portion size. The rest of the food was good but not great, sag paneer side was particularly disappointing.

Very disappointed this used to be one of our favourite restaurants however the service we received was well below par. Table was booked for 7 but had to chase at 7.15 to ask if our table was ready. Then had to wait till 7.50 before being asked for a drink and our order. Then throughout our meal the service was slow, was made to feel like they would get to us when it suited them. Was a shame as food great Wasn’t asked if our meal was ok and even when we went to leave and I asked for the managers name wasn’t asked why, maybe they don’t care !

This was our second visit. The food is wonderful - and nothing like normal high-street Indian. Decor also pleasant, and always a fascinating mix of people. My only complaint is that the service tends to be a bit rushed and uncaring: would be nice to get more attention and kindness.

We met some friends on Friday 14th February who had come from Scotland for a long week-end in London for lunch. My husband and two friends thought the food exceptional and enjoyed every morsel. As for me, I have a few dietary problems and cannot deal with too much spice, the restaurant could not have been more helpful, so very grateful as my meal was also cooked beautifully. Dear Chutney Mary, we thank you for a lovely lunch.

Met up for lunch with friends and had one course each. Some of us had a drink, all had coffee. Is £130 expensive? Maybe - but the food was excellent, and the wines good. Freshly squeezed orange juice
