Church St Fish Bar in Blaenau Gwent

FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY. I ordered a large sausage and I got an unusually large WHOPPER. Seriously this thing was humongous I don't know how it fit in my car never mind the box!

The food is always FRESH, The batter is always crisp which I love. Everything is always 10/10 including the packaging, you can really tell it’s a well loved business, if you order I HIGHLY recommend the Hallumi sticks, they are honestly unreal, 3rd time ordering and never been disappointed. Yes it’s more pricey than the usual chip shop, but it’s not “any chip shop” it’s honestly the best!

Ordered via the app had to ring the shop after an hour to be told it would be on the be next delivery run which meant I had too cook my daughter something else as it had gone past her bed time she was gutted as it was her choice for food that night and wanted chippy I could forgive a one off but the same has happened the last 3 times we've Ordered so sadly this will be our last

We have been ordering on a Friday for 4 adults for quite a few Months. We have a Delivery order, they are very polite when i phone my order through, asking if there is any thing else we would like with our food. The Delivery is only a few minutes late or a few minutes early, delivery persons are always very polite and clean in their appearance masked up and always pleasant. Well done to the fish bar keep up the great work.

I telephoned the day before to find out their opening hours as I was travelling from the Midlands to visit my dad. The lovely lady who answered offered for me to ring when we were near and the order would be ready Very helpful.I arrived early so went to dad's first and then back to the fish shop......all freshly cooked, the place looked spotless and the lady very helpful in understanding what I needed. The batter was out of this world!! Light, crispy and golden...the cod thick and tasty. 5* and highly recommended.

We were ordering from this chippy every week throughout lockdown. However they have now put their prices up by a third so we cannot afford it anymore. When I asked the reason was told because of the covid. Yet all the other chippys have stayed the same price? Shame on u church street!

Coming up to 8 weeks in lockdown and this is the first takeaway that I’ve had and have to say I’m very disappointed I tried this place when it first opened and it was good but the last meal I had from hear was about three months ago and it was quite average but I thought I’d give it another try but we’ve decided that’s the last:-(

Great chippy in the heart of Abertillery. All the fish is cooked freshly to order and the chips are great. They have a notice up showing the boat 'todays' catch has come from and which variety of potato they use. Portions are generous. Staff are friendly and welcoming. They now offer delivery as well. Since moving to the area last year this has become my favourite chippy.

The chips are absolutely amazing, portion sizes are good. Fish is always cooked fresh, Irish curry is lush. I wouldn’t go to any other chip shop in Abertillery.

I just ordered from your shop for delivery tonight, it came quick. Food was hot. Chips melt in your mouth with a crispy coating. Homemade Chicken curry was BEAUTIFUL!! The services is always top notch Thankyou again for the amazing service Love church’s streets top fan ❤😂😂

The service was terrible. Phoned up and there was this man on the phone didn’t have a clue and kept hanging up. Then came the delivery which in total took 4 hours to come. Phoned them up three times and on the last time the man told me to stick it and put the phone down. When I got my delivery the food was cold and I was missing 2 items off my order. I would not recommend them.

I have had the joy of having multiple types of food from this establishment, and all I can say is, it is brilliant. First of the delivery was quick and efficient. The staff on the phone was very polite and well-spoken. The food itself was delicious and piping hot when it arrived, and the order was all correct, so no complaints there. I also ordered chip roll, cheese and curry, the chips were ok, but I did find them a little bit bland and dry. The chip roll was not a roll but a burger bun, but the curry was beautiful. The fish was brilliant, it tasted fantastic and was not overcooked. The only thing I will say on the fish is that I wish it were more firm and rigid. The fish was floppy and could not hold its form, but that is just a personal touch and apart from that no complaints. I do recommend this place as it has brilliant food and fast delivery.

Been here before many times with no problems. However this time very disappointed. My wife asked for a Large cod, a tiny size for the price (£4.60), batter was pale, soft and soggy, not golden and crispy as usual. A large chips, cheese and gravy for myself. Gravy was completely Stone cold, having the effect of making the entire meal barely warm by the time we got back home (a 5 minute walk). A shame because we have had so many good meals from here.

Excellent chips all the time always fresh and lots of offers and new items added all the time more than a normal fish shop

Called in on a sat afternoon around 6 not much left to order as all the food available we were told were for orders. Had large chips which are put in a box then wrapped in paper ??? I know portion control is important but can't they use a box to measure the portion then just wrap in good old fashioned paper. The boxes make food sweat and taste horrible not to mention they are non recyclable. Our chips and sausages were wrapped then we had to wait a few mins for our Irish curry which I presume was being warmed up in a microwave as it was stone cold when we got home as was our food being left on the counter with the door open on a cold evening . Won't be returning shame as this place used to be amazing .

Food was lovely as usual but awful customer service from a very rude member of staff. Never no problems with food or usually customer service but on this occasion was very disappointed

Really, really good fish and chips! Huge portions (more than you can eat), fast serive and friendly staff. Definitely recommend!

Was recommended to use this chippy. What a mistake. Greasy, hard and cold chips. Manager doesn’t take criticism well

Over the last few years this chippy has gone from strength to strength. Really enjoy the chips from here and have a good bit of banter with the staff

Had scampi an chips and I must say it was a great improvement on the last meal I had from there. Chips were fresh and crispy and scampi was moist and hot. Good combination

Called in last night quite late, but the lady still offered to do a large fish an chips if I didnt mind waiting. When I got it home I was very disapointed to find that the large fish had disintegrated! The paper had been wrapped around the meal so tight everything was squashed together. I intended sharing the fish so I took the piece of fish that was whole, ( all 4" of it )expecting to find more amongst the chips, but there was none! At £8 + a portion I would expect better. Why wasnt this put in a box and not wrapped tight and what happened to the 'large' fish? I have had takeaway from here before and its always been ok but from now on I will go elsewhere!

Never had a bad meal from Church St. Chips are always perfect, and quite possibly the best, and most consistently cooked fish in town. Other places have been hit and miss, but not Church St... AND now I see they're going to be doing battered pigs in blankets! Wow! Can't wait to try those.

Waited 30 mins for a cone of chips . A joke. Good chips but not worth the wait . There seems to be no queuing system and the staff ignored me when someone pushed in front . Not good .

I have had takeaway from here a few times and even after the drive the food is still hot. The chips are nice and crispy and not soggy like other places and service is always fast and friendly.

Best fish and chips in Blaenau Gwent if not the whole of Wales. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

La comida siempre es rápido y fresco y en porciones muy generosas. No parece que como otras tiendas chip grasienta y es definitivamente la mejor en relación calidad-precio y sabor para Abertillery.

I heard that this place is under new management. I came here to try their new pulled beef with gravy. It was delicious. As well they have nice boxes and flat bottom bags. It was easy to put everything in to the car and drive home. I am definitely coming back. :D

Very good chip shop with all the usual favourites and to go with it are three different types of curry including Irish. My favorite is good old fish & chips give them a try you won't be disappointed.

I use the fish bar most weeks and have always enjoyed good food at a good price. Highly recommended.
