Excellent food and excellent service!

Great meal and service on a dreich Edinburgh night. The Chateaubriand, hand cut chips, two sauces and bottle of wine were delicious which was exactly what my son and daughter-in-law had planned for us by giving us the perfect gift of a Chop House gift voucher. Hoping to return again for another super steak meal!

Our first time visiting and we will definitely be back. Lovely cuts of steak and a nice selection of sides. Cooked exactly how I like too. The shredded fries were excellent. The service was great. Staff were very attentive. Whole vibe of the place was really laid back and very trendy.

Ordered our food and waited almost an hour to be served anything at all. To be fair, the staff did apologise - apparently our server should have told us that the chicken would take 40 mins + to be cooked, but she had not. Therefore we were sitting wondering why things were taking so long. The steak was reasonably good but not exceptional. The mash with gravy was really poor - unappetising and flavourless. Cocktails and wine were nicely served. I probably wouldn’t return as the service (and communication) was objectively poor. Food was ok, but there are definitely far better steakhouses in the city. Finally, when I booked the table I made a note that we were celebrating a special birthday but there was no reference to this at all (no candle in a dessert, or even a ‘happy birthday’ from staff). What actually happened is that we were given a pretty bad table in the very corner of the downstairs basement.

Disappointing visit for a 50th birthday. 1. We booked a table for 6 people. We did not know that all the tables are high mounted booths with high bench seating. There was barely room for 6 people and nowhere to put coats which ended up on laps. Lots of people in the area are older and will struggle with the high seats. My parents are in their 70s. People were quite uncomfortable. 2. One of the waitresses was quite unfriendly. When food was delivered they didn’t ask if we needed anything else such as condiments. She virtually ran away before I had to ask her to come back. I put that it was for a birthday on the booking, it wasn’t mentioned. There was basically no friendly chat. 3. The food took around an hour to come out. It wasn’t busy. 4. The food was solid with some misses. Steak was good and onion rings were excellent(except for the two pieces of onion that had skin on them). Burgers were overdone. Bernaise sauce was very obviously split and tasteless. Portions were a good size. Sunday roast advertised with roasted carrots came with broccoli but otherwise was good. I’d recommend asking them to substitute the string fries which are very very thin. 5. Overpriced for what it is. Miller and Carter is cheaper and better or pay a bit more for vastly superior food and ambience at Hawksmoor.

Wasn’t in the mood for steak and ordered the chicken which was delicious. Massive portion and they parcelled it up to take home. Chips that went with it were disgusting. Wasn’t a fan of the slaw either. Was pretty tasteless. Decent wine list and attentive service. On the pricey side though.

What an absolute disappointment. My partner and I went for my 41st and were shocked at how bad the food was. The ribs tasted like the cheapest lyons brand sauce, warmish and dry. The bearnaise sauce had split 3 times, the blue cheese sauce felt watered down. The chips "bought in" were horrible. Mac and cheese was a cheese-less bought in maphie bechamel sauce that hadnt been tarted up. The garlic mushrooms were just fried mushrooms in a bought-in garlic butter mix, tasteless. When the steaks arrived, we waited a while for condiments. Pepper was pepper, salt was pepper, when asked for salt again we were brought a pepper/salt mix. When asked to remake my steak, we were made to feel like we'd spat in the chef/kp's face... how dare we. When the steak arrived, it was well undercooked and sauce split again. So, for 1 mediocre bottle of wine 2 starters 1 steak, the other reimbursed 3 sides We were still charged around £140 You're probably be better off going to witherspoons for a steak, you can't compare this place with a good steakhouse

Steak was not great, Richard the server was rude, will not be back! Complained and was treated like we wanted a freebie!! So rude

Food fine, beer selection very limited not as good as previous. Waiter managed to drop my wife’s Prosecco which splashed over her. Not particularly apologetic. Is a shame as I used to really like it. However will not be rushing back.

We went as a family for my wife's birthday celebration meal but the restaurant was just a disaster from start to finish. - On arrival our table was not ready even though less than half the tables were occupied. We had to wait in our coats by the door. - Over half an hour later all we had served was a glass of tap water. - We had to find the manager to have our food order finally taken. - The wine, despite being expensive, was very disappointing. I know there is always a large markup but paying close to £40 for what I discovered was a £10 bottle just makes you feel ripped-off, particularly when the wine is not even very nice. - It was an hour and a half before food finally arrived. The restaurant sells itself on its butchery and steaks so it was bitterly disappointing that the steaks were less than mediocre. Nothing special at all. - The food arrived barely lukewarm and they got the order wrong. - Pointing out these issues to the manager resulted in him arguing with us. NEVER should this happen. So what should have been a fun and relaxing evening was ruined by awful service and disappointing food. Obviously we did not stay for dessert. Any silver lining? The manager did apply a large discount to the bill but this does not make up for a birthday meal being spoilt. We will certainly NOT be returning. It just seems to be a very badly-run restaurant. There are plenty of other - good - places to eat in Edinburgh.

It was absolutely superb! I ordered the special and hubby ordered the sourdough steak, which is a steak sandwich. I have to say, the steak in both was fantastic. We are quite snobby with steak coming from Australia, but I have to say that the steak here is top-notch! And the gravy sauce is WOW! Pity we didn't have a few people with us as their menu also caters to sharing portions. If you love a great steak them this is the place! Loved it, and we would certainly go again. As far as the straw chips that accompanied our meal, we would choose something else. Nevertheless, they were tasty. Finished off with the apple pudding desert, and that was excellent! Apple cider was fabulous!

Second time I’ve been solo for dinner here and it paled in comparison to the first in terms of service. I arrived around 4:30pm. Upon entering the bartender that was shucking oysters turned, made eye contact with me, didn’t greet and instead, 30 seconds later, asked a colleague to “get the door”. I was given 1 hour 15 minutes for my table which was fine with me, it was Saturday so it’s understandable. Seated at the edge of the bar my food menu was forgotten and I wasn’t revisited for around 20 minutes to get one, given water nor a drinks order in the same timeframe. Food was great, although I felt rushed since so much of my time had been eaten through a couple of mistakes, which are fine as they happen. However, the restaurant only had a few tables in when I arrived as it was well before dinner-rush times. Juan Pedro, who was the manager on shift, was joining his family/friends quickly for a meal and so I can understand that things may have been a bit shaky while management was occupied, although again, the restaurant was quiet at this point. While eating, my salt shaker ran empty and I got up, went to the bar and tried to get attention from the bartender, as floor staff were not available at the time, again the young man made eye contact, did not say anything and I waited for a waitress to swap my shaker. I ate promptly, paid, and before leaving JP caught up with me and we had a short conversation about all of the above which I appreciated. When your main is just shy of £35 there is an expectation of service in such a restaurant and I appreciated that JP made me feel acknowledged for my sub-par experience. Happy to come back for a third time and see if it’s better.

It's an oddity this one, as I have been to the Leith location a decent amount of times and never had an issue - knowing the butcher well (Shaws, google them, they do home delivery in Edinburgh, borders and Fife) I know what I'm getting from the offering. However, what has happened here in Bruntsfield? 1) Booking - they got my name wrong then got VERY confused when we turned up (how!?) 2) Got the time wrong - 7:45pm was offered and I confirmed (I wanted 7pm, told 7:45 was the only next availability, all good!) 3) I get a text day before the booking to confirm we're all good - it's an hour earlier than booked at 6:45pm, hey ho, date night, let's not start on a low - all good, changed the babysitter to arrive earlier. 4) Bar staff's attitude, shocker - walked in, was told to "just sit there" on the bar stools, and it was said as you'd imagine - like children, not adults... 5) Waiting staff's attitude, great 5* (this saved me moaning at the time - as it would have just tainted the evening for my wife and I) 6) The steak - it's good meat (I buy it at home); however, who cooked it? £90 bit of steak should be cooked to perfection, it just wasn't. My verdict - assuming Leith is not in the same boat, or maybe it is? The owners have become complacent here, and the kitchen staff are far too apathetic if that's what they think a £90 bit of beef should be cooked like. Manager showing no initiative too they "ran out of onion rings"; there's a Sainsbury's across the road - couldn't someone go and buy more? I'm 99.99% sure they stock red onions. It's a place that has the postcode and ease of use for many locally who see it as a casual/easy place to go and will survive for now. However, I'd be very worried if I were them that if they don't improve, they'll be shutting up shop. And unless I hear of some drastic change to their offering, prep and cooking of the meat, I won't be back - this is nothing more than a semi-ok restaurant that sells steak; it's not a steakhouse given the lack of ability from their kitchen staff. A little more attention to detail, training of the staff to cook better & thinking about what the perception is right now for somewhere with these prices will go a long, long way for the owners. It's sad I feel I need to right this but at these price points, it needs to be done so less people walk away as unhappy as I am now, having spent what I did.

Where to start, The family and I attended this restaurant on Saturday night (6/1/2014) Service was horrendous, waiter causing commotion in the kitchen then outside on the phone. Offered water which never came, ordered food that was double checked and came wrong. A severe lengthy delay in between drinks. To the stage where we had to ask,and just for reference it was not busy, 4 tables of no more than 4 at each table. As for the food itself once it arrived was ok, it's a very expensive restaurant and would expect a lot more. Having now been to all 3 different restaurants in Edinburgh now this one was by far the worse experience I have had. If you wish to go to chop house stay away from bruntsfield and choose one of the other two restaurants A really hope the do something around the service 4/10 service

Me and my boyfriend came here for our anniversary meal, we wanted somewhere nice for the occasion and we’re so glad we chose here and can’t wait to return! The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food and drinks came quick. My boyfriend got a steak with sides and I had the monkfish with a mozzarella tomato starter as my side, everything tasted amazing and the chips that came with the monkfish were unusual but are now my favourite!

Horrendous experience. Everything, from the most hostile service we’ve ever experienced in this city (if you have the misfortune of getting the waitress with tattoos - godspeed to you), to the mediocre food, apathetic staff, downright unpalatable sides, loud club music and feeling like our visit to the restaurant is an imposition. Avoid at all costs. Only wish we could get our money back and forget the whole thing.

I'd like to start this review off by saying that I almost never leave negative reviews about places unless something pretty egregious has happened and that I have also worked in kitchens in the past both BOH and FOH. This was also my second time at this restaurant, first was just a few months before COVID hit. We were a group of 8 this past Saturday night Nov 4 2023. Yes, we booked in advance. 20 minute wait for our table. Ok these things happen sometimes, it's a weekend night and we're a large party. Our server was in all sincerity trying her hardest but was clearly very overwhelmed. It was almost an hour from being seated to when we even got our drinks. The breaking point came when we'd been there for almost TWO hours and our mains had not yet arrived. A man (who presumably was the manager?) came over to tell us that there were two tables ahead of us that were getting their food and then we'd be receiving ours. That was it. There were multiple empty glasses and dirty plates (from a couple of starters we ordered with our drinks) that had not been cleared either. We had at more than one point food dropped off quickly and haphazardly at our table that we hadn't even ordered and had to wave down staff to remove it and bring it to the correct table. So at that point I said something. I asked "will we be offered anything off the bill to make up for the lack of service?" His response was an extremely rude and indignant "what lack of service?" when literally he had just come to our table to update us on a nearly two hour wait for our food. A second friend at our table then also spoke up and for some reason immediately after that THEN he began apologizing and it was all sorry ma'am, we'll get that for you right away...etc. From that point on we were treated like royalty. Had multiple people waiting on us and making sure our food was good (it certainly was, we all agreed the food was indeed good), did we need anything else, oh we hope you'll give us another chance... After we ate everyone just wanted to leave because the experience had been so unpleasant. We did receive 10% off the bill in the end and the large party service charge was dropped. Still came out to almost 700 quid, but again, the food was indeed good. I felt overall this was initially handled very rudely and unprofessionally. I did point out to the manager that I've worked in kitchens myself so I am aware behind the scenes sometimes frankly $h!t happens even with good intentions. However, you acknowledge your mistakes. You apologize to your customers, you offer something. That was not only not initially done, but there was a denial that there was even an issue in the first place. I hope going forward there is better communication (both between staff and to customers) in this establishment on busy nights to keep others from having a similarly unpleasant experience. However, I am extremely unlikely to return. My husband and I dined at Hawksmoor in late September and it was much, much better.

Disappointed. Booked for lunch and we were the only ones there and still the service was appallingly slow! The food was fine, but we'd almost passed the stage of hunger by the time it arrived. I wouldn't go back.

Would not recommend, when we arrived on time at 9pm on time the waiter asked us had we a table booked ? We said yes under our names that was booked, she turned and walked away left us standing , we walked to the bar and had been sitting for 25 min unattended an not even anyone asking would we like a drink ! After waiting another 40 mins finally we got or table , put in the order and waited 50 mins , when the order came out , we had been missing a side order , so we told two waiters that it was missing ! They never came with it at all after been finished with our meal , terrible experience ! I don’t mind expensive if your getting a good meal But this was neither , would not recommend at all

We visited for dinner when staying up in Edinburgh. Service was great, menu had great choice and atmosphere was nice. We had the steak sourdough which was amazing and one of the best ever had! Would definitely recommend for dinner!

Very disappointing despite a recommendation. Steak was really tough and the food was far too salty. We couldn't eat it and they waived the bill for the food. However they charged us £6 more than the listed price for the wine. Generally it seemed a bit chaotic and the staff didn't seem able to cope. I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be going again.

Was in culinary steak heaven last night as I and my friend dined on the most tender and delicious porterhouse steak accompanied by utterly divine chips.The staff were warm and friendly and professional.Highly recommended.

Passed by this place so many times. Got the chance to try it out. Went for a steak burger with straw fries. The burger was amazing and nicely done. Really enjoyed it. Look forward to visiting again in the near future

What a fantastic steak place! The waitress was outstanding and very friendly, the gentleman serving is our food was awesome and very polite, and the drinks and dessert were fabulous! It's a great atmosphere to enjoy your meal with friends!

People are excellent, but if you don't arrive early or make a reservation they don't have a problem turning you away. However this makes for better attention to those there. Cocktails were excellently prepared. Our favorite was the edelweiss gimlet. Starters were also excellent, we had the fried shrimp and the oysters in half shell. Oysters were fresh and absolutely delicious. The best I've had. We also had the truffle Caeser salad and it was also absolutely delicious. Perfect balance of flavors, crisp romaine just beautiful. The unfortunate part that pains me to write is the meat was sadly not up to par. It was neither well prepared, seasoned nor believably aged or cut as advertised. It was as if they'd mixed up the eye of round for ribeye. Grisly, tough and generally a bit over cooked. The sirloin wasn't much better a generous amount of fat and grisel to trim away. Again this was very unfortunate as everything else, especially the people were absolutely 5 star.

Nice place and very excellent service, good attention to the customer. So almost perfect apart a couple of things: 1- we asked for a medium rear beef, arrived more cooked. 2- very long waiting time, not so adapt for impatiently children. Middle-of-the road restaurant with an upscale steakhouse's prices. Steaks were good quality and well seasoned, but overcooked. Portions were small for the prices. A drink was delivered with a highly visible dead fly in it. Service was slow and at times very inattentive despite an abundance of waitstaff relative to the number of customers. That said, it was a nice setting and the food tasted good, so while I shan't return it was merely unmemorable rather than terrible.

Chop House has become a little hit and miss of late. The steaks were over charred and just tasted burnt. And was slightly over done. Disappointing given the price.

Brilliant food good prices and great service, highly recommend

Had a great steak here. It's not cheap but it's really good! Particularly recommend the Fennel, caper and rocket side. The salted caramel chocolate dessert was also interesting and tasty. The service was attentive and friendly and the decor nicely balancing modern with the traditional building. Will almost certainly return!

First of all we didn’t feel very welcome as the FoH Male staff were very inexperienced for their age. Secondly, the steak was very mediocre, I asked for blue and was given half blue and half rare and the last piece was somewhat fully cooked through. My partner’s steak was chewy. I had to ask my girlfriend how she wanted our steak done instead of being asked by the waitress. Thirdly, we were only asked if our meal was okay at the end of the Meal when you should be asking halfway through. Fourthly, after my partner paid for the bill you can tell there was gossiping and all the staff members huddled together to chat and gossiping whilst looking in the same direction which made it very obvious what was going on. I’d retrain your FoH male staff if I were you because they didn’t seem to know what they were doing let alone not being very welcome. The transition of us being there versus other customers being treated was very different. I should also point out when we went over during their closed hours to have a look at the menu situated outside the front door and to enquire their steak and frites, not a single hello or being asked if I need help as two male staff walked right passed us (yes it’s closed hours but you can at least help, it’s not that hard to have a brain). Most likely one of the worst Hospitality customer services in Edinburgh and steak wasn’t that great, this Branch is at best mediocre in general and I wouldn’t recommend it. I should also note that when arriving at 17:00, a female FoH staff was there and I asked to have a table of two but she was interrupted by the same droopy FoH male staff and he took over instead. Found that very unprofessional and belittling.

Overall, the food was disappointing and didn't match up to the reviews or the title of "Edinburgh's number one steakhouse." Lobster was cold and chewy. Fillet was fine, but my partner ordered the ribeye and it was a chewy, low quality cut of meat. Service was good but they cannot compensate for bad quality meat. Go to Miller and Carter instead.

Another nice meal … rump steak delicious and the Mac cheese is superb. Gave us a complimentary desert as was little slow as place was so busy which was a nice touch

Surprisingly gorgeous! This was a real find. Gorgeous food, attentive service and a lovely vibe inside.

The char on the porterhouse was great! This is steak done right on the pan, better than sous vide. The sauces were also memorable. Our favourites were the blue cheese and the bone marrow sauce. The chimichurri helped cut away the monotony of beef, fries and the savoury sauces. It provided the tangy, spicy flavours necessary to finish the 800g steak. The best deal was that on Tuesdays, the porterhouse was going for £50 with 2 fries and 3 sauces, instead of the usual £80. The happy hour earl grey martini was also refreshing and a great pairing to cleanse the palette after the meal!

We visited here for a date night and it was the perfect place. Lovely food, lovely staff, well worth the visit!

Had a table booked for 4 but had to change to 2 at short notice. Staff completely un-phased despite all the current restrictions. Cocktails, steaks and wine were all really good, and enjoyed within the clearly defined available table time. Didn’t feel rushed despite knowing there was another booking for our table. Second time going to Chop House, left disappointed compared to the first. Staff were friendly on arrival, however I received the wrong kind of steak. Decided to keep steak I was given as was told it would be taken off bill and that waiting for a new one would take a while. Also asked for medium rare and steak was closer to medium in my opinion. Got wrong sauce for steaks, gravy instead of peppercorn. We also felt like we were rushed out the place after being told we had 10 minutes left on booking. Understand there Is a time limit but had only been there for 1 hour and 15.

Second visit to Chop , loved it the first time, loved it the second time. No alcohol as covid restrictions, didn’t miss it. Son chose the tempura prawns as a starter, says they were really nice, next came the sirloin steaks with peppercorn sauce, had the chips and garlic mushrooms as sides, husband had the chicken, which was lovely, he says, a huge plate of food!! Desert was two chocolate caramel cups with chocolate ice cream, husband had a pistachio panna cotta , whole meal was delicious, staff friendly and smiling, will be back for a third visit .

Really friendly staff looked after us really well - some great interactions. Oyster starter was lovely, my steak was perfect and there were plenty of sides. Panna Cotta dessert was superb! Fantastic!

This was our first venture out since lockdown eased and it wasn’t without a little concern - however, the restaurant felt safe and the staff were clearly sticking to all the necessary rules and restrictions. No alcohol allowed with our meal but great selection of soft drinks, mock tails & alcohol free beer/cava - the Virgin Mary was better than many Bloody Mary’s I have tasted in the past! Our server was Jessica who was lovely - helped us through the menu, great service and a very pleasant young lady (and she as 3/4 way through a 11 hour shift!) Food was served at appropriate temperature and looked fabulous - further investigation owed it tasted as good as it looked. Oysters great, Steaks were awesome and the desserts (which I didn’t think I would manage) delicious. Thanks to Jessica for great service and our gift of a jar of béarnaise sauce, nduja butter and bottle of Old Fashioned to take hone with us!

Pasamos una noche encantadora aquí, era un lunes pero estaba lleno y parecía un sábado. La oferta - 2 bistecs 2 lados tenía una gran relación calidad-precio y el vino era encantador. El vino que pedimos inicialmente estaba agotado y la camarera sugirió otro que resultó ser igual de bueno. ¡Definitivamente regresaremos especialmente si continúan con ese trato!

Habíamos oído que Chop House era realmente bueno y reservamos con mucha antelación para el cumpleaños de mi esposa. Me decepcionó mucho estar en una mesa en la parte superior de las escaleras hasta el baño y un pasillo para los camareros. Podría decirse que fue la peor mesa en la que podríamos haber estado colocados y 200 más ligera en el bolsillo. Visité este maravilloso restaurante en grupo familiar (4 adultos). Los filetes eran simplemente maravillosos. La carne era claramente de alta calidad. Esto se reflejó un poco en el precio (alrededor de 150 para 4 personas con bistec para todos más vino). Sin embargo, al salir del restaurante parecía una buena relación calidad-precio para un regalo muy especial. El servicio fue excelente y el entorno cómodo pero informal. Recomendaría el solomillo en lugar del bife de lomo

Llegó como una mesa de 8 hace unas semanas durante una visita a Edimburgo, tuve una comida realmente agradable, era caro pero muy bueno. Fue durante la comida para ayudar, así que estaba muy ocupado, pero la comida llegó rápido y todo llegó perfectamente, definitivamente volvería :)

Fue recomendado aquí por nuestro hotel, logré conseguir una mesa para 3. El personal es acogedor y educado, revisó el menú y estaba dispuesto a responder cualquier pregunta. Buena selección de entrantes, mi hijo tenía medio costillar de costillas que se veía encantador, disfrutó de ellos, los platos principales consistían en una hamburguesa, pollo y un solomillo. Todo servido bien caliente, con aros de cebolla, chips cortados a mano y champiñones al ajillo, todos disfrutamos de nuestra comida, que fue regada con una copa de Malbec, 11 por 150 ml. ! , sin embargo, estaba delicioso. El pudín era pudín de caramelo pegajoso, un pastel de queso horneado y un brownie de chocolate, mi esposo dijo que mi caramelo pegajoso era el mejor. La factura era un poco elevada, sin embargo, sin duda volvería, bien hecho.

Would recommend the steak sourdough on the Brunch menu. Was celebrating a birthday and they brought out a complimentary ice cream with a candle, which was a nice touch. Nicely done inside.

Visité dos veces una vez en agosto y una vez en septiembre para el esquema del gobierno de "comer fuera para ayudar" y luego la versión de Chop House de esto. La oferta de bistec y acompañamientos a mitad de semana tiene un gran valor a 10 por persona con el descuento. 2 filetes de lomo, 2 acompañamientos (incluidas las patatas fritas con trufa) y 2 salsas. Además, toman AMEX y califican para 5 en Shop Small en este momento. Solo un recordatorio a los comensales para que también cumplan con esto cuando entren, hasta que estén sentados, cuando vayan al baño, cuando paguen, etc., para mantener seguro al personal también.

Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, great atmosphere (even during a pandemic!), excellent hygiene. Food was 5*. Best steak in town!

We have dined at this restaurant twice since it reopened & both times our experiences have been fantastic. A special thanks to Nicole, Annie, George & the team for their excellent customer service. Nothing is ever too much trouble & they are always smiling. The food is unbelievable & we are really enjoying the new menu. We have ordered Chateaubriand twice now & both times its been delicious. A special mention to the guys making cocktails, these are fantastic, especially the margaritas. Those are my favourite. Bruntsfield is fast becoming our new obsession. A great restaurant with great staff...we will be back soon.

I visited Chop House Bruntsfield for the first time last night just for drinks. Although the drinks were pretty pricy, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the staff for making it a great evening. Staff were wearing masks and put us right at ease when ordering and we’re quick to recommend drink choices. In particular, our main server that night, Annie, was fantastic. She made the night brilliant with all of the recommendations, and her service is one of the main reasons I would definitely recommend coming here to friends and family, and why I’ll be returning. Paying a bit extra for drinks and food seems worth it when the service is new heights great. Thank you!

Brilliant meal at chop house, Bruntsfield in Edinburgh. Outstanding food as per normal here. Service different class. Our waitress Allison was brilliant all night and went over the top to make everything perfect.

Food was perfect, from start to finish. Alice who was our waitress was amazing. Manners and service was top notch. Will definitely be back

I'd heard much about The Chop House but for various reasons hadn't been able to experience it myself - thankfully a post-lockdown visit by friends gave us good reason. Despite all due CV19 precautions being taken, the atmosphere was buzzy and service brisk. Our welcoming host was vibrant and engaged, seats comfy and food both of good quality and good value for money in terms of portion size. An enjoyable night overall and I'd plan to return with my wife when timings allow.

This is definitely the best steak in Edinburgh I have been to many steak houses but this steak was the best I ever had. The staff see friendly commented on my birthday outfit. Got a birthday drink. I honestly couldn't recommend it enough. Its amazing x

Demasiado caro y con poco personal. Nuestra pobre camarera claramente estaba tratando de hacer lo mejor que podía considerando lo poco que tenían.La comida por lo que es es cara y no la calidad que esperarías por lo que pagamos.Mejores restaurantes de carne ahora en Edimburgo. No puedo vernos regresar pronto.

The food here was enjoyable, and the 2 steaks and sides for £45 was a nice surprise. The waiters were all lovely and even moved us to a booth that hadn't been reserved!The pork starter and fresg oysters were very nice, the meat was really tender and well cooked.Overall my steak could have been slightly pinker but I did ask for it medium as it was a rib-eye. They cook their steaks with a powerful, sweet, charcoal grill flavour which isn't my personal favourite but still good to eat.There were a couple of small things like dirt on cutlery and a few wrong sides arrived but these were quickly corrected.The waiter gave us a glass of her recommended dessert wine on the house at the end which was a great touch.In summary, decent food, would come again.

Group booking on New Year’s Eve. Booking made two months in advance. Arrived at 9pm, drinks order not taken until 9.45pm. Half the table got starters, these didn’t arrive until 10.15pm. Main courses did not arrive until 11.30pm, 2.5 hours after our arrival, scarpering all our other plans for the evening. We would have walked out except for the futility of finding anywhere else available at that time on NYE. No updates, explanations, apologies or communication from staff during the wait. When after 2 hours we asked when to expect our mains we were told “you’re a big group and you all ordered different things” The table next to us arrived after us, ate and left before our food even arrived. Steaks weren’t cooked as ordered, some had been sitting out for some time. We didn’t receive all our sides. They should never have accepted a group booking that they could not handle. Total lack of management. Bad service. Sub par food. In fairness to the staff they accepted it had been a debacle and discounted our bill, but the experience was beyond poor and we won’t be back.

Arrived early in the evening restaurant already had a nice atmosphere however some of the items on the menu not available.Starters arrived without too much of a wait. Chicken wings were tasty but nothing out the ordinary and small portion. The scotch egg however was a generous size and a must try. It’s not just any old scotch egg. Would recommend the black pig as a main course lovely tender meat charcoal grilled. The portions are not very big so you will need extra sides if your hungry. However overall an enjoyable meal good quality food well presented. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. Starters x2 ,Main x2 . 1x dessert and 2x soda drinks total just over £80 not the cheapest meal but it is Edinburgh prices I suppose.

Took my wife here for dinner and had a really good time. Service was just right, everything came as it should and was yummy.We had a PorterHouse Steak for 2 and it was good, if not out of this world.Appreciated the spacious tables, the ambience and no sense at all of being rushed.The Manageress looked after us for our dessert, which was a nice touch (chatty and friendly).

We visited as a party of five for a family Christmas Eve meal . Firstly the bar person broke a glass into the ice sink and curtly advised that two of us would ‘just have to wait for more ice’ and then took nearly 30 minutes to serve those drinks although one was a glass of Sauvignon blanc which absolutely needed no ice at all ! We were then eventually taken to our table and advised there was no lobster - not really surprising on Christmas Eve- but then to be told in rapid succession another three of the mains we had chosen were unavailable, including chicken and the wagu burger ,was totally unacceptable from what is a small menu ! The staff were entirely unapologetic and concerningly several tables were booked later than ours and customers continued to arrive . The food was eventually lovely but we certainly were extremely disappointed and a Christmas Eve treat was tarnished massively . It would be very difficult to recommend this restaurant sadly .

Having previously had a good experience in this restaurant, I booked a table of 14 for some friends for Hogmanay evening. First impressions were great, staff were really helpful and accommodating on the phone, and when we initially arrived at the restaurant with an unexpected extra person they were super accommodating and popped an extra chair on the end (which was really appreciated).Things started to go downhill from here, though. Nobody came to take an order for 40 minutes, despite the restaurant not seeming particularly packed. Although our drinks came out without too much of a wait, a further hour passed before those who had ordered starters received them. Another 40 minutes went by before anybody got any mains – meaning people who hadn’t wanted starters had waited 2 hours nearly to get anything to eat. During this time we saw other tables come in, order, eat and leave – and people were starting to get disgruntled (especially as it was New Year’s Eve and we had other plans that were now being encroached upon).A couple of the party asked for an explanation, to which we were told it was difficult because ‘we had all ordered different things’ – which frankly isn’t really a reasonable excuse in a restaurant! When the mains did arrive we were told they had ran out of some of the sides, including both of my partners and one of mine – meaning one person of the party at least waiting two hours to have a solitary steak on its own.The food was generally a bit hit and miss, some people were quite happy but having asked for a rare steak I was disappointed to receive one I would consider medium. However, as it was now fast approaching midnight I didn’t want to say anything. At this point one of the group ordered a cocktail, and received a prosecco instead as ‘it was too busy’ for what he had actually ordered. They promised they would eventually bring the cocktail itself when things quietened down. However, the restaurant really did not seem so busy that this should have been necessary.As a result of all this going on we wound up actually in the restaurant for midnight, which spoilt our plans somewhat – although they did encourage us to go out and watch the fireworks with our drinks which was quite nice.By the time we were finally finished (12.30am – having got there at 9pm?!) everyone was quite irritated. The staff couldn’t have been nicer, and i’m sure whatever was going on in the kitchen was not their fault, but it had been a bit of an ordeal and we felt we had to say something. In the end they offered us the drinks and sides on the house, which was very kind, and appropriate I’d say given what had happened.On the way out my friend had still not received his cocktail, so he asked if they wouldn’t mind making it as we left. They were happy to oblige, and the bar tender informed us that the reason everything had gone wrong was that some kitchen staff had walked out during service earlier in the night?!No idea what this was about, but it seems pretty bad form – especially on new years eve. The staff did a great job given the compromising circumstances, but we felt they should have been open about what was going on at the start to manage our expectations. If we had known probably would have ordered differently.As a final note, one member of the party emailed asking for an explanation of the poor service (to several different available email addresses) at the beginning of the month and was offered no reply – so I felt it was only right to leave a full review of what happened on here instead.

A very enjoyable lunch. Surprisingly broad menu served very well and professionally in a pleasant atmosphere. There is also a good wine list
