Grease,grease and more grease,the batter was even soggy inside.Being a Yorkshire man,give me beef dripping fish and chips every time ,not vegetable oil cooked ,

Me & Hubby went here for a takeaway lunch yesterday (Valentine's Day). The plaice was busy which is always a good sign. Hubby wanted a large portion of chips and I chose a regular portion of chips plus a buttered bap (which was slightly squashed). The meal came to a total of £7.35 (paid by contactless card). Prices have gone up but the portions are generous. We ate our hot & chunky chips in the car in a layby around the corner....not very romantic I know but still incredibly satisfying!

Visited this chippy a few times. The food is always good quality and reasonably priced. Good variety on the menu. The staff are a bit miserable and a smile wouldn’t go a miss

Average chippy, chips and fish was fine although i found the batter greasy. Haven't tried other chippy's so unable to compare locally.

Chippy Dre usually has pretty good Fish and Chips. Staff are helpful and efficient. Only criticism is that once in a while the food is almost inedibly greasy.

We were staying close by and thought we would give it a try as they were always so busy. We wasn't disappointed because the fish and chips were of the highest standard and I know because I have eaten fish and chips all over and this is right at the top of our besties list.

After day of being ripped off on costa del chesire it was a delight to find this chip shop. Properly priced and definately in my top 5 chip shops I've been to in the UK. If you need a break from being ripped off in places like Abersoch then I highly recommend a visit to this chip shop

Best chips we’ve had for years. Fresh, hot and perfectly cooked. Quick and friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Lovely and flavoursome meal. Fish was superb, batter light and crispy, chips were tasty and chunky, just how we like them! Staff friendly, and efficient!

Ooooo this was yummy GF chips and mushy peas so nice and I got some vinegar on my chips no malt / barley In it !! The girls behind the counter were very nice and helpful it wasn’t expensive and everything was nice and fresh Thanks

Absolutely horrendous experience in this chip shop a local drunk man threatened my 16 year old son whilst he was with his 10 year old sister. Seemingly this man has a problem with English people. None of of the staff in this chip shop intervened to stop this man from abusing my children. Police are aware about this incident. A very scary experience for my children.

Classic old fashioned chippy. Food good and reasonably priced with good portions. Cod had to be broken in 3 to fit in the box. Large portion of chips would be enough to feed the 5000. Slightly on the greasier side of the fish and chip spectrum but still good.

The best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Ordered small fish and chips, slight wait as everything is freshly cooked. Staff were delightful despite being very busy. Headed off to enjoy the sunset over Borth-Y-Gest beach with my chippy tea!

We asked Tesco customer services for a good fish & chip shop & they recommended the chippy in Tremadog as the best in the area. I had haddock & wife had cod. Both were freshly cooked in a light and crispy batter with great chips and mushy peas. Brilliant

Nicely cooked fish and chips but very disappointing that the gluten free fish and chips could not be offered GF vinegar. They sell the bottles for £1.90 but would not put it on. Quite discriminatory as ordinary fish and chips they put on vinegar for free. Please look after your GF customers as we always miss out!!!!!

I have been a local to the area for 20 plus years and have eaten food from here on numerous occasions and have never written a review, until today!Chicken special burger and chips was superb! Real chicken fillet, not some processed rubbish you mint find elsewhere. Bbq sauce, lettuce , cheese and mayo. Lovely fresh chips Da iawn

We had a sausage, cod and chips with curry sauce. All was very nice, tasty, freshly cooked and hot. They were flat out serving as quick as possible so we didn't mind the wait. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped here whilst on holiday in the area. First of all I had to give my order to the woman behind the counter several times. It wasn’t a difficult order, similar for four people. She kept on asking me to confirm the gravy, peas etc. The place was quiet, only one other person there. Took the food back to the caravan to see that the woman had mixed up the order. Convinced I was also over charged. The chips were greasy and very chewy and the jumbo sausage only warm.Went here a week ago too. The chips were chewy then but gave it the benefit of the doubt as we were tired as a family having travelled to the area. Next time I’m in the area on holiday I will avoid this place at all cost and find somewhere else. If I could give this place no stars I would, but having to give one. Avoid!!

Mayhem and soggy fish and chips is what I experienced. The staff were causing confusion with orders but had they just asked for a name for each order this wouldn't have been an issue. Shouting orders into the street where there were several people that had ordered the same (who would have thought that people would order the same i.e. fish and chips).Got back home and the fish was soggy and the chips were greasy.Not good and if you are reading this, try Allports in Porthmadog.

Last week we stayed in Portmadoc. On the Tuesday night we opted for a fish & chip supper. Acting on the recommendations of a local neighbour, we chose not to buy from one of Portmadoc's two fish & chip shops, but went instead on a four-minute drive to Tremadoc where, in its charming and attractive village square, we found Chippy Dre.What a great choice this turned out to be: cod and chips for six of us, of a quality and quantity that was just superb. Quite honestly, the flavours were singularly delicious and richly satisfyiing. But the real bonus was the cost: far, far cheaper than those available in Portmadoc. Observing Covid rules means that your wait for your meal may be slightly longer than normal, but the service was very polite and the wait was well worth it.

Bought two portions of chips this evening. Very very greasy and lots of those horrible small dried bits. We couldn't eat them so binned the two portions.

I've had food from here before and it's always been good, however not on this occasion.I was told it would be a 5min wait for my food which is fine, but it ended up being nearer 30 mins. Customers that arrived after me and ordered larger orders were served first.When I got my food, its wasn't hot and the battery was soggy. Which isn't surprising as the fish had been sitting in the hot cupboard for ages before I was told my order was ready.Not impressed and I won't bother again.

Visited last week, I have to say I am not a huge chippy fan, however these were beautiful fish and chips not greasy or heavy , boxed lovely and served with tartare sauce - I’d highly recommend

Coming from Redcar on the North East coast, I grew up on fish and chips. The taste of fish and chips has gone downhill everywhere, but this really took me back to my childhood. Best cod and chips I've had in years, and a lonely portion of mushies

Some of the best Fish and Chips we've had. Came the other night. Was amazing and we were worried it wouldn't be as good. It was even better. Theres a good reason people queue for this place.

Lovely fish, scant amount of chips, however the staff member serving was the rudest most ignorant person ever, I for one completely understand social distancing we were asked to wait out in the hailstone despite having paid and nobody else in tbe shop, I asked why and she said incase we get a customer. After being in the hail and no arriving customers we went in to collect our food, no manners used and she couldn’t be bothered with us, hence not again! Back to Criccieth superior food and amazing service!

We were still in lockdown so nowhere to sit in for food, only take-away. A busy place in the village so a queue outside after ordering, which was fine as it was sunny!

You might have to wait a few minutes for you fish to be cooked fresh for you but you won’t be disappointed. Best in the area

Yes, I agree with other customers. Very greasy. It was dripping through the cardboard box onto my lap. Still, nice fish and chips but please drain the oil ! Saw 2 other people in the shop, with no mask. Why serve them ? Napkins and forks were free for all to take so did not touch either. Not covid safe and please drain off the grease before serving. We know much better fish and chip shops in our area than this. Over rated.

Went with my wife whilst staying nearby. We both had cod and chips. Good fresh fish with a light crispy batter and a good portion of chips. Unfortunately both were swimming in oil and it made both of us feel unwell. Staff at the counter were not very friendly and it was difficult to obtain a credit card receipt. If they could cheer up and cure the “greasy” issue I would give them five stars.

Popped in, whilst in the area, for cod and chips. Really nice, especially the batter. Great tasting chips too. Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely call in again if in the area

Having had a season on a holiday park in Porthmadog and tried most if the eat out restaurants I most concluded that this us the best fish anx chips in the area very large portion excellent fish and perfect chips only problem is there's always a que which I suppose is in keeping with it been the best around

Excellent food, freshly cooked to order. Sadly during covid you need to wait outside (wont be nice in winter) but that didnt detract from the excellent service and pleasant staff. Would recommend phone ordering if weather is bad. Easy to park outside

To put it simply, just how I like my fish and chips. Great presentation, best taste, best piece of fish and more than enough to satisfy the hungriest. Less than sixteen quid for two with great mushy peas. Fantastic.

This has to be the best chip shop in north wales,had take out from hear twice,the chicken burger was lush and tasted just like a kfc burger would travel from my home town just to visit chippy Dre highly recommend👍

Been here many times but the lockdown has kept me away, called in last week for haddock chips and peas and got the usual delicious meal, spotlessly clean and friendly staff! What more could you ask for.

Came across this great chippy by accident, or good fortune, in taking a detour to Porthmadog as the traffic was heavy in Penrhynduedraeth, and we saw it on the main road in Tremadog. Easy parking. Great fish and chips and a nice quiet dog walk nearby where we eat them. Recommended.

Reasonable food but not outstanding, breadcrumb coating was rather hard especially around the edges, hand cut chips were fine, portions smaller than most.

Popped in on our way back from an afternoon on the beach and were treated to the best fish and chips we've had in years! The cod was freshly cooked to order, lovely crunchy light batter (none of your soggy nonsense) and crisp chips. Priced sensibly as well. Staff all super friendly. Think we may have to go again...

Visited here for fish and chips after seeing it had very good star rating and so glad we did, the cod was huge, lovely and fresh the batter light and crispy and the chips were delicious and prices were very reasonable too. Would definitely recommend this place and will be sure to call in again when visiting the area.

It's a very expensive place you need a mortgage to get chips 195 a small chips you taking the mick everything is dear in portmadog and tremadog you would think they drop the prices for people who live there but they don't people shouldn't shop there should buy the stuff and do it myself cheaper!!!!!

Can't really fault this place. Open in the middle of February - unlike some of the more seasonal seaside establishments. A range of fish was on offer (not just Cod!). Portion sizes were generous - in fact my only reservation was that my haddock was unceremoniously folded in half to fit in the tray - it still tasted great though. Prices very reasonable and, being in Wales, they spoke Welsh. Diolch yn fawr.Just one thing to get that fifth star - Can you start using paper/cardboard trays instead of the polystyrene ones please? I will check next time I visit!

This is a great fish and chip shop serving quality fish covered in light batter.The staff are very friendly with nothing being too much trouble for them.We were told the present owner has been there for seven years; we hope for many more as the Chippy Dre is certainly on our list of preferred venues whenever we will be in the area in future.Diolch yn fawr am y croeso a`r bwyd!

Good selection of fish cooked fresh. Steamed fish for those with a gluten allergy. Tasty chips. Can get busy and most things cooked fresh so be prepared to wait. It’s worth it.

A great little chippy much used by locals, the welsh language very much evident, which reassured us that we had found a great place. The staff were very friendly, although the young lady serving found my husband's Bedfordshire accent hard to understand! The oil used was clean and fresh, the chips tasted like homemade and the batter on the fish lovely, light and crispy, almost like a tempura. It's rare these days to have more fish than batter. We will be back when next holidaying in the area.

We were staying just outside Porthmadog and we were recommended to go here, unfortunately it took a while to find it as satnav was useless! Once found it was certainly worth it, fish was delicious as was the batter and the chips were wonderful, only wished we lived closer.

We pulled up further up the street as the road was full of parked cars. Got out and went in the chip shop, no wonder the road was full of cars they were all in the chip shop! Waited a short while for our order to be taken, fish chips and peas, cooked fresh, massive piece of fish in a lovely crisp batter. The best I have tasted in a long long time, we will be back on our next holiday, thank you.Helpful friendly staff.

Passing through Tremadog, we came across the Chippy Dre. Read the reviews before entering which in the main were extremely good, but after reading the one about staff talking about the English we entered with a little trepidation! Absolutely no worries at all, we were greeted in English by a very pleasant young lady who was very courteous and polite, she took our order, told us we’d have to wait a time while they cooked the fish. We sat at one of the nearby tables whilst waiting, we were then served with the most delicious fish and chips we’ve had for a long time. The lady offered us a choice of a small carton of curry or peas to have for free with our meal! They were also quite a bit cheaper than what we pay at home.

We first used this chippy many years ago and we were delighted to find that it hasn’t changed! The fish was lovely and the batter was so light! Every thing was fresh , piping hot so worth a trip!

Be prepared to wait up to 15 minutes for your order at busy times. They do in fairness have a really good system of ensuring your order is served in turn and is correct - and the bonus is everything is totally fresh and piping hot. Great chippy indeed. I am Welsh but my Welsh language is not great so ordered in English - I can gladly say that I did not have the same negative experience as the last reviewer on this occasion - was treated with friendliness and courtesy.

I have lived in the area for several years found this place early on food has always been awesome as has the service however I normally go on my own in my work clothes and order in Welsh

More than reasonable prices, Great fish & chips. Catered for Gluten Free diet, as well as Vegetarian. We had a big booking - 30 of us. Gave them a few hours notice and it was all ready on time.

Popped in for a quick takeaway supper and had to wait for 10 minutes, well worth the wait, it’s been a long while since I’ve been able to recommend a fish and chip shop but I can this one well worth a visit.

One of the best fish and chip shops I've been to - including Rick Stein's place and those in Whitby. Freshly cooked to order and delicious. Six of us ate and all of us left with the same impression. If only all chip shops were like this!

We visited Chippy Dre twice on our holiday. The chips are quite simple divine. The staff are friendly and helpful. The chippy is very clean and has an extensive menu. The food is also very reasonable indeed. The one to eat at for sure.

Simply the best FnC around Porthmadog! Always have at least once during holidays to Wales, and didn’t disappoint this time. They even catered our wedding a couple of years back. Often a bit of a queue but relatively fast moving.

Not much space to sit only 3 tables of 2, one of them is out side and the other two are on opposite sides of the shop, but nice fish and chips. Decent size. Does children ones too.

We have a static caravan at Aberdunant and regulary visit this fish and chip shop. Great service and delicious food, the fish and chips are the best I have tasted in a long time and they offer a great variety on the menu. We always recommend Chippy Dre to anyone that stays in our caravan, you can even ring your order through to them and then collect!

Best fish and chip shop for miles. We pass a few chip shops to go to chippy Dre. You can place a telephone order then collect your meal. Great selection of other foods available too. Good value and lovely staff.

Decided to visit this chip shop as we were traveling though, hubby had fish and chips and I had a chicken fillet burger, chips were lovely however they did forget salad and onion rings which was quickly rectified. Would be back again if in the area

The fish and chips here is fine, not the best but certainly not the worst. Welsh is mostly spoken here, but they switched quickly to English when they heard that we could not understand them. The portion was large and good value for money.

Lovely fish and chips and big portions, cooked fish fresh while you wait a must to go to, be prepared to wait but well worth it.

When we walked in we weren't acknowledged by any of the staff. One of the staff was behind the counter having a conversation with customers across the shop but she didn't even look at us for several minutes while we waited.

Neil and I lived nearby for 7 months in the summer of 2018 and stopped by regularly for two fish and chips for lunch. It was just so delicious every time - fresh, beautifully cooked, great batter, great chips, beautiful fish - wow! The lovely lady let us re-use the polystyrene trays (we felt bad about throwing them away so washed them and brought them back) and when we ate in she gave us plates. It always felt a treat to go there and I miss it now we've left!!! So recommend the lovely Chippy Dre and the sweet staff there. Thank you! XXXX

Only disappointment was the polystyrene try’s our meals were in. Food was top notch. A wedge of lemon would make it exceptional:)

visited today after a friend recommended this place,it is quite a small place,with roughly 6 small tables,but that doesn't reflect the choice of food or quality,my wife enjoyed her fish chips and mushy peas,and i certainly enjoyed my beef burger,chips, and mushy peas, all with tea,there are menu,s on the wll,and a lot of the food is freshly made,first visit,but won't be the last,staff were very friendly

Today (Wednesday), Hubby and me decided to go here for a quick lunch. The lady serving behind the counter was helpful and cheerful. There was plenty of choice on the menu. Hubby asked for a small sausage & large chips. I chose regular chips with a buttered white bap. The bill came to just £6 which I was able to pay by card (contactless). We waited a short while for some freshly cooked chips. It was wet and windy outside so we chose to eat indoors (there is only room for 3 small tables). The meals were hot, filling and value for money. Whilst we were there, they had a steady stream of customers.

There is always quite a queue here and no wonder as the quality of their fish n chips is excellent. And their mushy peas are lovely as well. Looking forward to our next visit already!

This is a first class chip shop. The food is freshly cooked, delicious and plentiful. Staff are unphased by the high turnover of customers, serving everyone quickly and efficiently.

Found this chippy via TripAdvisor (thanks). Second visit was yesterday. The fish and chips were again fantastic, but have to particulary comment on the fish that was the best I've ever tasted. Light crisp batter and succulent soft fish. Roll on our next visit to the area!

I was recommended to go to here as the best chip shop for miles around the Porthmadog region. The fish was huge and both it and the chips were great. The locals were speaking Welsh when I went in, though the server spoke in English and was very courteous.

Good quality food and currently better than alternative establishments, but unfortunately the staff seem to have missed receiving any customer care/charm tuition and only smile if their local friends come by. There needs to be an established and obvious queuing system since it is not evident if there is indeed any form of queuing or just a scrum for those with the loudest voices .

Stopped there for some Fish and Chips and received a warm welcome by the staff, Their Fish and Chips were fantastic, freshly cooked while we waited.

I have never been to a chip shop that does the best deals, the best fish and chips like this one. The staff are so friendly and their customer service is excellent. Everything is cooked to order, which makes the food even nicer. I would highly recommend it. Please go and you will see why I say it is the best chip shop in the UK. Just fantastic.

I visited here on Sunday afternoon after traveling over from Anglesey (where I live) The fish and chips are always great and freshly cooked to order, no complaints there. However, my complaint is about one of the serving staff, she had no smile, no emotions, no thank you and gave the LOCALS free carrier bags? I witnessed this with 2 other customers in front of me and thought nothing of it until I requested a carrier bag and she said 5p into charity box!? (No please) but the 2 people she knew were just given the bags and no money went into the charity box at all. I know this is a legal requirement but i felt I had been victimised because I wasn't a local local, this isn't great customer service at all and not something you expect to see in this day and age?!
