2nd chance for new owners and I was wrong! They are amazing! Great food, great service and more so just great people. Definitely recommend

After a wonderful 13 mile hike today we had the lovely aroma of fish and chips as we walked down the hill back into Osmotherley. Of course we had to sample them. They are cooked to order so very fresh and worth the wait. We got ‘small’ fish, chips and mushy peas for £5, unbelievable value. 2 generous size pieces of cod in crispy batter and chips cooked to perfection, they were honestly the best cod and chips we’ve had, delicious 😁 I heard the lovely lady behind the counter say they’d only been running it for 4 weeks, they are definitely doing something right and wish them every success for the future.

Since the new owner have taken over, as a “local” I have nothing but positive things to say, The food is exceptional, and if I need to wait for cooked to order food, I don’t see a problem with that. Keep the good work

Fish and chips tasty a little slow service but they are very new to this industry so give them a chance

We were on holiday nearby and had a takeaway from here twice in a week. All were freshly cooked so allow a little waiting time. Both the haddock and chips were delicious

Choice of cod or haddock, small , regular or large. Chose 2 x small cod and chips. Freshly cooked to order, great fish and chips nicely cooked in obviously clean beef dripping. Chunky pieces of fresh white cod, nice thin batter, plenty large enough for us. Best fish and chips for a long while. Well worth the visit and very happy to go back again.

Opening times over the new year's weekend were excellent - reviews were good. Visited to order fish and chips but spotted a fish in the cabinet that I could see more fish than batter - the object appeared to be to get the batter to fall off so it could be offered as scraps! it didn't look like the pics on Facebook that's for sure. I was offered the scraps mountain they had! Asked for a pie - told 45 minutes, so in reality, they don't do pies. The chips, well, the reviews say they are great, but they are limp and greasy, and the best bit was you didn't need to suffer many as you didn't get many. Far more served with a meal at the pub next door, and the chips at the pub are good but a chip shop should be better - We stayed 4 days locally and had expected to go more than once we didn't. Stayed in and cooked a pizza from the lovely shop around the corner

The cod and chips were really good. Small portion was just a nice size (£6). Enough chips but not overwhelming. The halloumi and chips excellent. Good portion and lovely batter. Not good for strict vegetarian as beef fat is used for frying but this is on a sign in the shop and we were also asked when we ordered. Plenty of meat choices and sides. Well worth a visit. Also good value for money

Kleine winkel in het centrum van het dorp. Vriendelijk geholpen. Fish and chips waren vers en erg lekker. Bij goed weer voldoende bankjes in het dorp om even te zitten en eten.

Got regular cod and chips with scraps, peas and curry sauce. Was good - a couple of small errors in ordering but nothing to spoil the experience!

Stopped for some fish & Chips in the lovely village of osmotherley, first class counter service by the lovely owner and food was excellent thankyou.

The fish and chips were delicious, the staff were very friendly. We had walked into the village from woodland farm, and the bridge over the river had been removed so the river ran over the road and we had to walk through it. The lady serving us insisted on giving us a lift home, and wouldn’t take any money. This was above and beyond, thank you again x

I think they must add beef dripping/fat to their cooking oil, because you do get a meaty flavour from the fish and chips. It was very tasty though, albeit a little greasy.

As always, I’m never disappointed with the service or the fish and chips just a brilliant little gem of a place .. when camping we always walk to it and enjoy it everytime.. whatever the weather.

Probably the nicest fish and chips I’ve ever had. Fish was beautiful - chips looked a bit pale but they were perfect on taste. Really was an excellent standard. Very busy so maybe order and come back later to collect whilst there are covid restrictions...

We placed a telephone order for 9 on Saturday night. It was ready bang on time to collect and WOW the food was amazing!! We have an award winning chip shop in our village but your fish and chips were the best we’ve ever tasted! So much so that we will be back on Friday for round two

Freshly cooked to order. Fish melted in your mouth (my cat with whom I was sharing ate the best she's eaten in weeks after being poorly!) Chips were perfect; no scratty ones, all with a nice soft potato middle. The nicest I have eaten in a very long time and will certainly revisit soon :-)

Read a review abut the place and were v disappointed to find it temporarily out of action when we visited on hols, due to an injury to the owner/chef - however! She was back just a few days later and we had a delicious supper, cooked fresh for us, and served with a good dollop of pleasant chat and attentiveness. Deserves every success it gets.

We visited the Chip Shop tonight for the first time under new ownership, we had lightly battered Cod, Chips & Pineapple Rings, they were absolutely gorgeous, had Fish & Chips a couple of months ago at the local Pub Restaurant but tonights Fish & Chips were twice as nice at half the price. Will be back again soon. 5 Stars.

Being relatively local to Osmotherley, this fish and chip shop has somewhat of a legend attached to it. For as long as I can remember, it has always been regarded as what would be considered a “proper fish and chip shop”. The recently acquired accolade of Best Fish and Chips in the North of England is certainly something that should not be overlooked. Open on Wednesdays through to Saturdays serving beautifully cooked fish and chips cooked in traditional dripping, this is a great stop for family’s, walkers or visitors frequenting some of the local pubs - not to mention the lucky residents of the village. Brilliant service with a smile and entertaining chat with the locals all add to the warm and inviting environment. I cannot speak more highly of this fantastic place. A delightful experience and delicious food.

Arrived late at night just before closing time after a long walk from Kirkbymoorside. Excellent friendly service and top quality food, left us feeling absolutely stuffed at the end of it! Couldn’t have been more grateful to see the shop. Would 100% recommend it to anyone thinking of dropping by.

I was supporting my wife whilst she did the C2C in a day and this chippy sits on the route at the top of the hill into Osmotherley. I’d stopped for a pint at the pub opposite and the chips smelt amazing. After a while sat pondering if I should or not I nipped in. I was created by 3 ladies and there was a tray of Prosecco in the counter top. The chippy had just won an award as best chippy in North Yorkshire I think. The smell was delicious and I was going to wait till I got to Whitby for ‘the famous fish & chips’ however I decided to try them here instead. I am so glad that I did, the fryer put me in a cod and I had a cod chips and mushy peas and it was absolutely amazing. The best fish and chips I’ve eaten in a very long time, freshly cooked the chips weren’t over greasy the batter on the cod was really nice and the peas were proper chip shop peas.Even more surprising was it only cost £5.45 yes that not a spelling error £5.45 for cod chips and mushy peas. Followed by a glass of free Prosecco and very friendly service. So glad I stopped to try and if I’m ever passing again will make sure I call.

Proper village chippy just as you’d hope it would be. Queue of locals and tourists out the door of a tiny room where fish and chip perfection is made. Lady behind the counter must have the memory of an elephant, though she claims to wing it! Friendly staff, excellent chips, eaten off our laps on the little green opposite - smashing. Short walk from cote ghyll caravan site and worth every step.

We are fairly local ( about 6 miles away ) and if it's fish and chips time there's no way we would go anywhere closer. The standard of cooking is excellent ; crisp , non-greasy batter , cod or haddock full of flavour and in three sizes ( like a challenge? Ask for the large.. ) and top notch chips. Friendly staff and good service. You might need to wait a while at busy times as it's only small and all cooked to order but persevere as it's really excellent food.

Huge cod and chips fried to order, so be prepared to wait when it’s busy. Locals phone through orders which can increase the waiting time. Check opening times carefully as these vary according to the time of year.

A really lovely owner justifiably proud of her fish and chips. Good value and everything cooked to order. Nothing sits around waiting. The batter may be slightly underdone for some...but that's how i like mine.

The Cod and Chips was just right and the queue was a good advertisement.Service with a smile. Now offering a wider home-made choice. It seemed odd that the pub next door now advertises a similar "Chip Shop Menu" at a few pence less per item?

All the fish was cooked to order and was delicious. Fresh fish and light and crispy batter. My children had chicken strips which were also cooked to order. The staff were helpful and friendly. We all enjoyed our food. Excellent.

The fish and chips is excellent, lovely tasty fish and crispy batter. We often ahve them with mushy peas and curry sauce - it can't be beaten. As if that wasn't good enough Pam's now dishing up the best Pa(r)mo's in the area, you've got to be hungry though. Well done Pam.

Now that Pam is back the quality is tip top. She does a speciality curry on Thursday. Well worth a visit.

The fish (huge) was the highlight of the meal. Very tasty and succulent which just melts in your mouth. Generous portion of chips as well. Lovely friendly staff. Will definitely be back if I am in this direction again. Well worth the detour off main road to taste and visit the village. Thank you.

Osmotherley chip shop has always been a great asset to village life. Of course we are lucky to have three great pubs/restaurants but everyone needs take out fish and chips as well don’t they!Well done Pam for taking this on- complements what we already have in the village and can eat your fish and chips and have a pint after! What’s not to like!Have to try your curry night one day. Fish was great by the way. Always cooked to order and always totally fresh.

On holiday at the nearby caravan site we decided to try this out for out last night's dinner. We went on a Wednesday and it was busy with only one person serving but the food was worth the wait. My husband and I both had a small cod and chips and it was really good and plenty big enough for us. Enjoyed it sitting in the sun at the market cross.

Last Thursday night I braved the chilly winter weather and headed to the re-opening night of Osmotherley Fish and Chip Shops. Under new management - what the Chippie lacks in size (surely it must win the award for the Smallest Chippy in North Yorkshire) it makes up for in the friendliness of the staff and the delicious taste of crispy batter and fresh fish.Tasty chips and a huge piece of fish served freshly fried in crispy golden batter... these were the best fish and chips i have had in ages.... I will return and soon, just need a walk round Cod Beck first to justify the calories !

Chippy re-opened after being closed for some time... I visited last night (Friday 9th Feb) and treat myself to a portion of fish and chips... they were absolutely delicious! They were freshly made to order, the fish batter was light and crispy and the chips were gorgeous too. It seemed quite busy - I think because the locals realised it had re-opened and people had come out to see the new owner.... great fish and chips, friendly staff and beautiful location! Can't fault it!

We were tempted by this Fish and chip shop especially after a pint or two but it just wasn't open when it was needed but then we were walking on the Cleveland Way and went past it at lunchtime and we couldn't resist a bag of chips each. And they were quite excellent - more's the pity it isn't open more as doubtless we would have visited more !!Great little small village chippy producing great tasting classics !

Lovely lady served us with the best fish &chips weve had in a long time. Lovely white fish in a nice crispy batter.very renfeeasonably priced at £4.80 (they also do an option off a small portion or large portion -mind the regular size was more than enough) nice curry sauce & mushy peas(some shops they are runny and have no flavour but these were nice at 0.65p each) would definitely go back.

We call nearly every Friday night after a mountain bike ride. The chips are great and the fish is the amongst the best I've tasted. It would get five stars but they don't do many vegi options such as pineapple or onion rings, cheese patties, etc.

Popped in for tea whilst staying at the local campsite. We had 5 lots of fish and chips and 2 lots of sausage and chips between us. We ate these sitting at the war memorial just outside the shop. The fish and chips were superb, literally the best I have tasted in years.

Ate from here whilst staying at the local camp site. I'd read previous reviews so knew we would have to wait for our order as everything is cooked fresh so thus wasn't an issue. Didn't have to wait that long either. My husband had the large cod and chips and it was large! Ended up giving a quarter of it to our dog! He said it was lovely. I'm not a fan of fish or meat so I asked if they would mind battering some veggie sausages for me as there are no alternatives (i.e. cheese pattie, which would be a nice addition). Anyway, the lady (who I assume was Briege) was very accommodating and kindly did so with no extra charge. Chips were perfect. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

We stopped at the chip shop after along day out walking. The fish was cooked to order you can select a size of fish that matches you hunger combined with a portion of chips at a reasonable price severed by a very friendly local woman what more can you ask for. We took ours into the square which has several pubs around it fish and chips a pint sitting in the evening sunshine is a lovely Yorkshire village. Idyllic!

Disappointingly, my first choice of haddock was not available so I chose to have a small cod and chips, which were both cooked to order, so you do need to be prepared for a bit of a wait. The cod was beautiful and the chips were well cooked. The only downside is the portion size of the chips - there was not enough to make a "proper" chip butty!

We didn't actually plan to eat here, but having arrived in Osmotherley, which is a gorgeous little village, and just fancying something to eat - the aroma from the chippy was simply too much to resist.Service was good and the freshly cooked fish and chips absolutely top class. You would be hard pressed to find better. So whether walking in the area or driving past, a detour to Osmotherley for fish and chips should be high on your agenda.

Tried this chippy whilst staying in the village. Fish comes in three sizes; being somewhat hungry I chose large and it was the size of a small whale! All food is freshly cooked to order so no warm ups here! Great idea to wait next door in the pub til ready. Our fish - in three different sizes - with chips and mushy peas was all very tasty. Light crispy batter with lots of white meat and chips were delicious too. Excellent value we thought at just under £20 for three of us! Only surpassed by the chippy tea we recently ate at Robin Hoods Bay but a very commendable second!

I discovered this wonderful chippy when walking in the area even though I only live 6 miles away. I now return every week. Your meal is cooked to order and the batter always crisp and fish well cooked. Excellent.

Visited this place whilst staying local. Being a 'Chippy Fan' I can honestly state this food was amazing and better then Whitby. Very popular Chippy that should not be missed. Beautiful!

Lovely little traditional fish & chip shop in the beautiful village of Osmotherley. Food is cooked to order & always freshly fried. I always order when I'm on my way from home to the caravan park & collect it on the way in. If you order in the shop you can go and have a drink next door at the Queen Catherine while your food is cooked. Fish comes in small, regular or large so prices vary but are very reasonable A great little business with friendly staff, excellent hygiene rating & lovely food. Give it a try !

Found this lovely little fish and chip shop by accident. Lovely fish and chips, lovely village and two nice pubs to boot, a one stop shop!!!
