China Royal in Chichester

The takeaway we ordered amongst other 'dishes' had four 'different' types of prawn but all looked like the picture and we're tasteless and burnt, to date following three emails I have not received a reply or refund for my abysmal meal, I would never waste my money here again

I don't expect fine dining for a satay chicken and salt and pepper chips. However I find it unbelievable that any cook who is in a job could serve this. The satay has zero peanut flavour what so ever. It is brown water with boiled chicken added to it. The chips are pretty standard and obviously frozen like all takeaways but the garlic flavour was so burnt it wasn't enjoyable. It's not just a take away so why give this to take away customers, the watery chicken is just a joke tbh. Complete waste of money and really not nice to eat. Honestly thought someone else had my order so rang them but woman on the phone just didnt care. Imagine someone having a watery peanut broth when they had ordered something else and had an allergy.. she didnt care.... jesus. I realised on closer inspection it was actually supposed to be a satay. I really couldn't tell. Just star clear if it. Just want your money do not care about the food or the service.

Ordered a number of dishes for home delivery to Park Holidays Lakeside. Order taken by a very polite lady on the phone. Less than 30minutes later the order arrived with another pleasant young lady. The four of us sat down to a beautiful delicious piping hot meal. Well done China Royal and keep up the good work. I wish we lived closer as we would be regulars.

Went here for a meal after lockdown! With the EOHO scheme, The place was very busy and the staff were all wearing masks, the disappointment came when they presented the bill the prices had gone up to the weekend prices now it’s cheaper to go weekends!!pre lockdown and they charged vat at 20% when it presently should be 5% overall felt like you were being milked for them to catch up on their losses!! Probably won’t be going again for a long time!!

We ordered a delivery, all supposed vegetarian options. Opened my noodles to find it full of meat and seafood! Very unhappy customer

Having never eaten here before, I heard they were delivering due to covid & not being open... the delivery driver was great at still taking cash but safely! & the food totally fabulous, particularly the egg fried rice: cooked exactly how I like it (just slightly sticky & with plenty of egg!)... really hoping they continue to deliver post covid as it will be our go to Chinese take away from now on!

I have come here for many years even before it moved from the town centre. The last few months not only has the staff gone down hill now the food has gone down hill. We ordered £30 of take away and all of it was horrible. I called up but was only offered a refund for one item. This was the last time I will visit and it’s a shame because all the Chinese restaurants are disappearing and going down hill.

Come here on a Saturday around 19.00 , was nice and quiet and just what we wanted lots of staff standing around. Got a nice table and looked through the menu, went for number 1 starter which is for 2 people just mixture of different things and we ordered the duck and pancakes. The 1st starter arrived within 5 mins and the duck took about 20 mins. We did find there was a lot of staff but trying to get drinks took longer than it should of. We did chat to the table next to us who actually waited 45 mins for there starter even tho ours took 5 mins. The duck was nice just we needed more pancakes but we couldn’t get anyone’s attention so we just ate it without them. The food was nice and we would go again. They just need to be more on the ball serving customers quicker

This was very clean food but I live less then 5 mins away and got home all the food was cold which is a massive disappointment when you have spent £60 on food Such a shame

I have visited the restaurant many times. Native and tasty Chinese cuisine and very friendly staff. I recommend the restaurant if anyone likes Chinese.

Popped in for lunch whilst shopping. Buffet is very good value for money - the food is piping hot, there is lots of choice & the staff are lovely. Everything I ate was tasty & good quality. Will definitely return!

We have used this restaurant for family meals for many years. Whilst the service has slowly deteriorated, the food always remained good. As such we tolerated the one as it was compensated by the other. However we visited again two weeks ago and were extremely disappointed. The service was shocking - it’s not that it is slow, it is that the staff have no customer interaction skills at all. You feel like you are an inconvenience. This is not a new experience here but what was new was that the food was definitely of a lower standard than on previous visits. The dishes that came in the thicker type sauces (as per sweet and sour) were so ‘gloopy’ they were unpleasant to eat. Some of those in the thinner sauces (black bean / oyster) were close to tasteless. As for the deep fried spicy beef - all batter , no beef. Sorry, but we won’t be back.

All you can eat and it was but not as you know it no buffet. You order of the menu and its cooked fresh to order you can have as much as you want and if you want more you just ask. The food was very good and plenty of choice. Will be going back.

The food it’s rubbish, they selling the food twice. I mean if the customer can’t eat all they take the food to kitchen and get the meat out, washing and cooking again ! Badddd, never go there, “eat and go to hospital “ this has to be the name of this restaurant!

Never go to this restaurant, they're so rude and racist! I was working there as a waiter and they was so rud to us! The food it's proper rubbish, when we closing the buffet lunch time they take the food left throw in the sink and washing the meat and using again in the next day, so bad! And the customer eating that rubbish and the boss smiles and ask if it's good!!!!!

I am writing two Chinese Restaurent reviews now as they were each visited on consecutive days in June. Both get 5 ratings, but for very different reasons.

Visited Chichester for a 2 night stay and with many different chinese restaurants to choose from we decided on this one despite some bad reviews. Pleased to say we made a good choice. Came on a Sunday which was a very quiet night for them and the food and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and come back again if in the area.

Very busy lots of large groups Starter not bad ribs were the best bit had extra portion of them. Plenty of duck but cold pancakes. Mains hit and miss curry nice satay chicken chewy. Sweet and sour ok.

Plesant welcoming staff, food plentyful and tasty ,huge choice on menue . Thank you to all there for a fantastic evening ,and resonably priced total on the bill.

On a recent trip to Chichester, we looked on the internet to find a buffet Chinese resturant. After finding this on the internet, boasting over 25 dishes, we headed off for lunch.

Had a Takeaway From the China Royal, tonight. Freezing Cold Chips Like Cardboard The food had been re-heated Rice was Like rubber. When I rang to complain,I just got abuse from the Chinese Woman.. Who said that she did not understand.. Disgusting food...Warning...

8.50 pounds for a buffet meal which means you can go up as many times as you want plus dessert included. OK, only icecream and jelly, but still. Lovely smiling staff and the food was excellent.

I've been to this place a few times but I want to tell you about the visit on the 26th January 2019 with some friends from work. The food on this occasion was up to it's usual excellent standard, but the service on this day was appauling.

I went there to have a buffet meal as it says on their website, but refused buffet menu as I was a solo customer. The price of the meals on the menu were extravagant, at around £10 a dish. I left disappointed.

New Years eve, tried booking Gunwarf Quays but most were closing early and last Year found New Years rather flat and Gunwarf

I love to visit the china royal all you can eat buffet for evening but when visiting for the lunch buffet it was rather disappointing by the sparse amount of option available to have compared to the evening meal. I also found it rather inconvenient having to get up and pick out of a open spread buffet which i feel is unhygienic as when you have the buffet in the evening you order off of the menu and then they bring the order fresh to the table each round. I now go elsewhere for lunch times as they have a better lunch spread and serve duck pancakes and lunch which is a must have for me. I hope my feedback can be put into practice.

Every time we visit this resturant the price has gone up. We used to come to Chichester several times a year and do like chinese food. The price has increased so much it is now one we shall not be eating in. They increase their meals to a unacceptable price and they think we do not notice it will be their lose when custom drops.I expect it has increased while sending this review.

Without doubt the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Staff were rude and unhelpful, other than the man who gave us our bill, he was very pleasant, but all else was so bad.

Food was average and customer service was awful. Staff not friendly, looking us up and down giving us dirty looks. Food was good but not anything that stood out. Cups were very dirty. We were threatened to be charged extra because we were trying each other’s dishes. We also booked a table for 14 but got a table for 10. However restaurant was nice looking.

This place is absolutely amazing my family and I loved the whole experience. Staff were very polite and always on hand to top up our drinks, the food was lovely and there was so much of it. Have recommended and told everyone that they should definitely visit. We have arranged another group visit for the near future and I’m very much looking forward to it. My mother and I went along to this restaurant for a takeaway this evening... as we do quite often.

Visited with a friend. We decided to go with the buffet and the selection and quality of food was very good. The decor and service were both of a good standard, and I would definitely visit again when in the area.

We have been to China Royal many, many times over the last few years and have always had a lovely meal. This week we brought our two children with us for the first time! The boys were able to try a variety of different foods and they really enjoyed the experience! What really made our night was how wonderful the staff were, particularly with our youngest son who is 6. They were really attentive, chatted with him and even sang along with him!!! We will definitely be back

My husband and I were very disappointed in the take away we had on Saturday. The prawn crackers were soft and sweet and sour pork was an unpleasant combination of overcooked meat and fat. The beef and chicken were fine, but we felt the overall standard was poor.

Always great service and tasty food this place is still one of the best value for.money places to eat in Chichester, and the food is always good, great for friends or families

Buffet up to the usual high standard. My visitors from Yorkshire were well impressed. More pudding choices than usual for a Chinese restaurant.

What great food and quick service and amazing quality for food I don’t live in Sussex but the quality was as good as it was in my area and the price was exceptional and would recommend it highly!The staff was friendly and quick with this order also so use this if you are in Chichester

On arrival we found that the table we had previously chosen and booked was given away to someone else which was not a good start. The food was very nice ..however the bad service and lack of smiles let the atmosphere down. The manager strutt arround the resturant with a angry and unhappy face. All staff apart from 2 never smiled and looked unhappy. Really...it was like eating at a venu after everyone had been diciplined previously. A plug behind our table looked unsafe and together with patched up wallpaper should never of been left like that. It could be much better and the environment should be as important as the food.

Myself an my partner went for all you can eat for £18.99 per person, you have or order from the menu so its not help yourself kind of buffet.

We visited recently for a family father’s day meal and were appalled by the service we received. It was as if the waitress (we suspect manager) took a dislike to us as soon as we stepped in the door. She tried to quiz us about our children’s ages even though we’d already said what they were and we were made to feel as if we were lying to get cheaper food. Which of course we weren’t.

My son and i was on holiday in Bognor so due to him being autistic i plan and reserch our days. I found this resturant online and we attnde for the buffet lunch. We were greeted and seeted by Yun Guo who was kind and understanding. The food was simple an a smaller choice but it all was hot. Freash and lovely. The less options was still a wide range of lovely food. We were so full and satisfied. The accessable toilet was clean an tidy. It was storing items in there and older but clean and fresh. I really will be traveling to eat here again when i am in the area each time. I really reccomend it. Nice large room with people spread out. We had 3 people take our plates an all where fast and smiling. Thank you or a lovely time. I was so shocke about the prawn toast which wqs delish!! As it had prawns on. Not mashed up tiny peices.

Well what can I say “ fantastic “ . The food was fantastic, hot and authentic! The staff efficient and polite. They where even fantastic with my 4 year old son! Know I don’t mind admitting that I was a won ton virgin! Yep embarrassing but true, so I asked the nice waiter what it was! He took him time and explained it to me . I am truly great full for my new culinary experience!

Usually the food is excellent and the staff are lovely we went there last night for a meal to find new staff they were extremely rude not very friendly and food standards have gone down hill I wouldn’t recommend and will not be going back

Had lunch here from the buffet, always hot and a great variety of choice, the satay chicken , mushrooms and broccoli are particularly deliscoius.the serving trays are checked and refilled constantly and you can help yourself to as much as you wish , there are lots of choices and a variety of noodles , rices and some lovely seafood included mussels.along side this are soups and fresh fruit salad and ice cream.drinks are extra but not too dear so a lunch here for two with soft drinks won’t be over twenty pounds.the interior is smart , clean and spacious and the waiters attentive and polite.

We were out Christmas shopping we needed to eat we had the lunch buffet lots of choice really enjoyed it and good value.

Interesting menu concept that worked really well. We ordered the mixed starters which were excellent and a variety of other dishes. All were good but the mussels highly recommended.

I have been here many times and the food is usually of a good quality. On last visit the chicken curry was hot and the satay chicken sauce was way too hot for my tastes and my fellow guests.

I made a telephone reservation and had to phone back to check as the person didnt confirm my reservation in the first instance . So i was not off to a good start. When we arrived my first impressions of the restaurant was very tired looking , uninviting and basic. The toilets weren't any better, could do with a jolly good clean.. A disabled toilet, one gents and one ladies toilet. Thats right , i said one of each. Which i thought was shocking for a large restaurant . I cant say much about the food either. It was very bland. The crispy duck was dry, the crispy shredded chilli beef was dry and lacked chilli. Sweet n sour pork , well, what pork? More veg than meat and the special fried rice looked like it didnt even touch the pan. The only thing i enjoyed was the sizzling chicken and my ice cream . The staff were miserable and looked like they didnt want to be there. I think for what is charge is about right. i shall be sticking to my local take away in future.

This was our 4th visit to this restaurant, it's great at lunchtimes, the buffet usually replenished frequently and the food is always tasty and hot. Perfect for large family groups, as the buffet prices are reasonable. However, I just concur with a previous reviewer, the waiter who took our drinks order didn't even acknowledge he'd written down our drinks nor acknowledge when we requested a jug of water. Just wrote on his pad and ignored us effectively! Very rude and we wouldn't keep coming back if the food weren't so darned tasty! Female staff were more helpful and approachable.If the service was better, this would get a 4* review at least.

Since I regularly go to the Bognor Regis restaurant of the same name which is always excellent, we decided to try the Chi branch and I decided to compare them. First parking is really easy and free in the cattle market after 6pm. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and 4 times the size of Bognor. The quality of the decor was tired but satisfactory. The biggest let down were the staff who have forgotten how to smile and were as emotional as a stone, hence the title, so for service, no more than 2*. The food is comparable to Bognor and the chicken satays are delicious. The crispy duck was very lean and also exceeded expectations. The food overall was excellent and at £15 a head is excellent value for money, earning 5*. Service was slow and hard to attract the waiter's attention. I don't like the 10% service charge, so no extra tip. In Bognor there is no service charge and they get more than 10%. Nearly gave them a 4* but 3* is fairer. Have the staff smiling and 4* if not 5* is achievable. Please don't let this review put you off; the food is excellent value for money and this place is worth a visit.

We have visited several times before for a reasonably priced quick lunch and in general found the food on the buffet to be filling and of sensible quality considering the price.However today was slightly different as far as the meal was concerned. I cannot understand why a small ( slightly greater than 1/2 pint I'm told ) glass of ordinary lemonade costs £2.80 whilst a lager of the same size is £2.40 !!! On challenging this I was informed that this was a "large" size and this was correct - as far as they were concerned anyway !!!We shall eat there again but forget the far too expensive drinks - a fact which I passed onto the staff. Such a shame.

I have been here a few times with friends etc. They do an all you can eat idea where you pay a certain amount and you can order as much as you want. The Chinese is okay. I prefer another Chinese restaurant in town. For a little more you can have better quality. However, it is okay for one evening every so often with tight friends who don't have the money to spend on good food. The staff are nice though!

We have eaten at this place (both getting the all-you-can-eat pricing) and liked it purely because of the quantity of food, but this is the last time we will go there. This place wants to sell their all-you-can-eat special and nothing else. How can I tell you that? ONLY the all-you-can-eat meals have prices in the menu. Literally nothing else has prices, so if you want the a la carte meals you are simply guessing how much you will be paying. And if you are there as a couple, you can't get just one all-you-can-eat special, because they require a minimum of 2 people at a table to get the special. (Because it is not a buffet setup, you must also finish all the food on the dishes they bring out before you can order more food. I think this is a good thing for both the restaurant and the diner, so no problem there.)OrderingBecause 3 different people tried to take our food order, there was the expected confusion when it came to ordering, and none of the servers shared any information with each other. So ordering 2 dishes, 1 starter and 1 side of rice came out to more than the special price - but because there's no itemized receipt you have NO CLUE how much each dish cost. Even after questioning the bill, the final price came to more than the all-you-can-eat price. FoodThe prawn toast was good, actual whole pieces of prawn, but the size of the main dishes was so small we assumed they were the size that is served to all-you-can-eat diners. There were very few pieces of chicken in the chick chow mein dish, so we had to do the usual 'count the pieces of meat' that we'd have to do for a Chinese takeaway meal. ServiceDuring the meal NO ONE asked how the food was. It's a busy Chinese restaurant, we understand, but the service was appreciably bad.

As we had been to the restaurant on a previous visit to Chichester and really enjoyed our meal. We decided to take our family including young child aged 7 months.The staff were so helpful and friendly,talking to the child each time they came to our table. The food was excellent. Will definitely go again next time we visit Chichester.

This is a pile it high - sell it cheap restaurant. Fairly tasteless food. Full of msg, so beware if you suffer from allergies.

I went for the lunch buffet and I would say it was well worth the money (£7.99 pp), the food was very nice and there was a wide selection of drinks.

Came here with family and mum and I had a set menu and dad had a normal food from the main menu. I understand they charge 10% surcharge for food but not for drinks. Also they come to your table every five seconds to check not giving us speaking to each other. Couple of times they took the wine menu off the table as we asked to leave the menu on the table. Overall excellent food.

Went there last night with a party of 5. Ordered drinks upon arrival, waited 20 minutes, still no drinks. Had to go to the bar and remind them. Even then it was another 10 minutes to get 4 beers and a water! Top tip if you order the buffet: you have to be very persistent with the waiting staff to get more dishes as they will actively avoid making eye contact with you! This is because the more dishes they serve you the less profit the restaurant makes. We didn't order the buffet and still found it difficult to get the attention of a staff member just to order more drinks. The food is alright, just all a bit bland and samey. There's a Thai restaurant just round the corner that is a much better option.

Decided to go back after a bad experience 5 years ago. Very disappointed this time. Staff not friendly, food just plonked on table, no description. Batter very oily and heavy, everything tasted the same. Looked like only one peanut was used for the whole restaurant as sauce was very transparent . Tip, buy drinks at the bar so the compulsory 10% tip is not added. Dearest drinks in Chichester. Red wine served icy cold. NEVER AGAIN. Recommend Chinese in Rustington and Arundel

We received a lovely welcome and were soon seated. Our drinks order was taken and we chose the buffet lunch.The buffet was beautifully laid out, very hot. The aroma was wonderful. The food was tasty, and we could help ourselves to as much as we would like.We were not hurried, and the waitress cleared the tables on a regular basis, but was not intrusive. Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and lovely food. Looking forward to returning in the very near future

Resturant was very busy. food was very nice came out very fast and was nice and hot! ...i found though that they rushed us quite abit as if they needed the table for someone else which i didnt like as i wanted to enjoy thw evening with my friends in a relaxing atmosphere. I arrived at about 12.30 lunch time to be shown to a table and asked what I would like to drink I ordered water as I drive a car.I have been hear many times and each time it gets better I start with my starters then go back for my main course and then have my sweet, my only criticism is that people tend to fill their plates up with everything rather than go back several times or as many times as you like which seems to be crazy to me.When I first went there it used to be £5.99 with coffee now on a Sunday it's £8.50 with coffee extra but still worth the money B.B.

We visited the China Royal as a family of 8 for Saturday night dinner. Some of the reviews had made us a little apprehensive.There was absolutely nothing to be worried about.We were greeted by friendly staff and welcomed like regular customers.Our drinks order was taken immediately and served promptly.Our few questions on the starters were answered graciously. We ordered a variety of starters that arrived all together, cooked just right, tasty and piping hot.Our waiter did ask if we wanted any more starters before ordering the mains.The main dishes appeared as quickly as the starters had done and were equally excellent.Once we had all finished our mains, we were asked if we wanted the menus for some more. We all declined as the dish sizes were more than sufficient.I finished the meal with jasmine tea, a huge pot just for meWe do not understand some customers complaints about the 10% service charge.It is in big letters on the menu and well worth it anyway. We were in awe of the table clearing, arranging the plates like petals of a giant flower to carry them away.The only rude behaviour we witnessed emanated from an arrogant and condescending customer.All these bad reviews made us wonder whether there is some sort of grudge or vendetta against the place!

We went in for the lunch buffet at 12.30 today. No sooner had we walked through the door were we ushered to a table. No greeting what so ever... The waiter then seemed to look annoyed when I asked him what lagers they have, looking away and informing me its Fosters or Stella. The Buffet is good value, but again the staff seemed frustrated when bringing out fresh food and finding customers in the way. It almost came across that we were an inconvenience being in the restaurant spending our hard earned money in the establishment. I made a point of saying bye to the waiter (who appeared to be in charge barking orders at the staff to prompty clear plates) but surprise surprise absolutely no response. I think he was on a mission to march the next couple to a table.

Food hot and good .Do not agree with recent reviews. staff friendly and informed us of service charge which is ok considering it is only £14.99 for all you can eat. You pay more than this for a main course in most restaurants. there were 7of us of various age groups and everyone was happy with their food. If you want fine dinning then go to a fine dinning restaurant where you will pay fine dinning prices, Have been to this place many times with family and friends in the past and was their last night so recommend you try it yourself and form your own opinion.

Food was pretty good and menu pricing was good for the amount of food we ate. (However it's not all you can eat as they actually do limit you) Service was poor, seriously terrible ; we waited around 40 minuets for the bill. Staff were unfriendly and I can see why they needed the compulsory 10% service charge ; I don't think anyone would actually tip them as the service was so bad.

We walked out after the prawn crackers. Hostile reception from the staff, hassling us to order and then informed us we would have to pay a 'compulsory' service charge. I said I would only have to pay that if I wanted to. No they were adamant. So I suggested they should charge correctly in the first place. I have never encountered more unfriendly rude waiting staff as they literally laid down the rules to me....We left. When we arrive we was taken to are seats and told there would be a 10% services charge which is fine if there was any service. We ordered 2 cokes. When they arrived they was flat as a pancake. After this week ordered are starters chicken satay, prawns toast and spring rolls. When they arrived most of it wasn't that hot and the chicken was very dry.Then on to the duck which was just okay nothink special.Main course.So we order chips, crispy chili beef, chicken balls and a chicken curry. After they took the menu away so we couldn't order more... which we was going to do as it's a buffet. When the main course arrive the curry had hardly no chicken in it and was pretty tasteless. The chicken balls tasted off. The service in there was terrible there was no service so again why should I have 10% service charge for dull service.

I very rarely write reviews but following a long planned family meal over the Xmas period I feel compelled to share our very less than satisfactory experience. Although our booking for a large family gathering had been made several months in advance and we could clearly see our booking on the waitresses file we were treated to the third degree re how many of us would actually turn up. Nice friendly start. We were then ushered to our table and then the real customer service kicked in. A few menus were thrown on both tables and we were told what we would be having for starters and then we would be having duck!! Following each course the most unfriendly waiter barked orders for us to put our plates on the swivel part of the table. No please no thank you. When my son asked for a jug of tap water please he was shunned off and met with a blank stare needless to say it never materialized. The food was really unpleasant especially our main courses they just literally threw the main dishes down on the table we didn't know what was what and who ordered it. No explanation of each dish just shove it on the table and go. I didn't think it could get any worse but then we had the saga of the bill. I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like it. There was no print out of the meal ( in this day and age) just the horrible rude head waiter and his calculator what he was adding up was not clear or obvious. We were told it's all too confusing so you need to sort it out. They had added a hefty service charge which given the shocking service was absolutely undeserved. We have no idea how the bill came to the total he claimed but felt we had no choice to pay.This restaurant is like Fawlty towers without the humour!! If you like to be over charged for poor quality food not of your choosing and have staff treat you in the rudest manner this is the place for you.Needless to say I would rather eat a plate of raw liver and I am a veggie than eat here again. Shame there is no option to leave zero stars

We visited this restaurant as a large group. Instantly we felt very rushed into ordering our starters. If you questioned the waiter about a dish you got a blunt snappy reply back as if you are an inconvenience to their time. When the starters arrived the satay chicken skewers were cold and pink inside along with the ribs. We sent the food back only to be treated with a look of disgust from the waiter. There was a lack of atmosphere in this big noisy restaurant. All of the staff are very hostile towards you. As a customer I was made to feel uncomfortable and annoying despite the fact that we all had cold raw food. We were very rushed in ordering our main courses and when ordering 2 rices were told you already have one, despite the fact that it was 2 between 5 people! Again the food was cold and very greasy and extremely salty. I informed the waiter again that the food was cold only to be given a look of disgust he felt the bottom of the plate and said it's fine!! There was never an emphasis on the customer except being made to feel very uncomfortable and a burden on the impatient waiting staff. The drinks are clearly watered down and not filled to the line on the glass measurement and again when asking for it to be topped up a look of disgust was given and tutting! The decor is very tied and dirty, the restaurant is cold in general without the cold reception from the staff! Overall I would stress that you avoid the cold dirty rude restaurant. As other people have mentioned in their reviews they are out to snatch your money by serving poor quality cold food small in portion weak watered down drinks and then on top of that have the cheek to charge you a service charge!! Service charge should be an option for the customer to reward good service not fork out even more money for poor service! Far better getting a takeaway from a decent Chinese elsewhere then popping to your local pub than coming out of this place feeling upset and deflated. When leaving the restaurant we were informed that we were not allowed back there again!! Clearly in their eyes the customer is NOT always right. We have been left feeling ostricised for speaking up and complaint about horrible food and expensive prices... steer clear of this place!

I went for the lunchtime Saturday buffet arriving at 1pm. We had soup to start which was barely warm as it was the last dregs. Went back up at 1.30 to find there was hardly any food. Had to repeatedly ask for more dishes and had to wait at the buffet for some time for more rice with meat going cold on my plate. All the food was really lovely but not acceptable to have empty dishes an hour befor end of service. Won't be going back in a hurry. Don't go here if you are hungry

Not sure what some whiners are going on about but this place is always fantasticThey hate waste which is a good thing or you would get greedy people ordering just to waste.The food is always high quality, I in fact made this a special trip as its my old home town and I now live in NZ.Ok there's no disabled access to the toilets but some building just can't adapt for this.Thank you I will be back for the 268th time in a few years.#crispyduck#saltnpeppersquid#bestprawntoastever

DONT GO. This restaurant is clearly limiting and controlling all food, drinks and the atmosphere in order for you to eat less and making you to feel unwelcome and not relaxed in the hope you don't stay to long. Their clearly just thinking of the money and how to give you less with bad service. Rude staff, dirty carpet, mould on walls by toilets, dated decor, over priced drinks, long waits inbetween servings, small potion sizes, lack of meat in meat dishes, most dishes contained a spicy kick, staff making you feel like an inconvenience in the hope you don't ask for more food, air con came on at around 8 and turned the whole place into an igloo.I went with a group of old friends and we had noticed straight away any staff member that dealt with us was very rude and unhappy. During the meal they would say "wait" about 7 times when we wanted to ask them something or get their attention. We had to wait a along time inbetween each servings before asking for more and getting their attention was very hard work. At know point did anyone come to check up on us to see if we were enjoying the food.When the food came out it was pretty much instant, which was good but the portion size was very small and lacked meat content. Most food from the mains had a spicy kick to them, so when we asked to have less spice next time they just said "no this is the way we do". Again once we had taken 5/10 mins to eat it all, yep another long wait before ordering more food. Staff only came to tables on their terms and when they are ready to do so. Theirs is also a very cheeky 10% service charge on the bill that you have to pay which is real kick in the teeth after a bad experience. Drinks are so expensive with a lack of choice. My mate had two large pepsi. These were about the same price of a decent meal near my local Chinese take away lol crazy. Overall it's the worse Chinese restaurant I've ever been to.

Have visited this restaurant many times. The food is always good, service is swift, and the general atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. We like the buffet style service, without having to wander around bumping into people with full plates. No complaints here. Will be visiting again.

We would like to warn all people with any disability at all to give this place a very wide birth! A group of us booked a reservation for lunch on a Tuesday and were met with no greeting, but instead, ushered into the far corner and told to "make no noise". If this was not bad enough, our group were made to feel very uncomfortable throughout the meal, staff looking over our shoulders as we ate, counting plates. I must also add that the disabled toilet was inaccessible due to the fact it was full up with 6 hoovers, which we had to remove into the eating area, before we were able to access the toilet! All in all we all felt very upset and extremely unwelcome by the whole experience. Needless to say, we will never be using this establishment ever again!

If you love fine Chinese food you will hate this place. Poor quality ingredients. Reminded me of takeaways. But some people like this sort of thing: fish fried in batter in bright red syrup. I think they have no palate.

I have visited the restaurant a couple of time, both me and my friends are disables, and have been made unwelcome. This is to the point where we sat at the back and told not to make any noise!!!!

Oh dear what has happened to greeting, warm welcome, thanks and goodbyes at this restaurant. There was definately an us and them atmosphere and no real customer service. ,staff huddled by the bar talking rapidly and mostly ignoring us. I had to go to the bar myself for another drink . No one explained how the buffet worked. Did we need to be given plates or just get on with it? The man in charge was grumpy and uncommunicative . He cleared out table as we were leaving. Not a word, not a smile . Very rude. If they don't improve their attitude they will lose all their customers. Several friends have ceased to go there now. It never used to be like this maybe it's changed hands for the worst.The food was ok, tasty and cheap, but the whole experience was poor. We won't go again.

Had all you can eat menu. Have been here before and the food was as good as back then. The food is freshly and very nicely done - not too greasy, tasty and well cooked. The reason I've only given them an average score is because of the service. Its not very welcoming or friendly. They are quite rigid and seem to try and make you order dishes in the order and time they want or expect! Had to ask for a serviette 3 times and generally if you require something it is met with a frown. They also have a habit of standing and staring whilst you are eating!Still very tasty food at a reasonable price. (with a bit of MSG hangover next day)

We recently went for my grandparents wedding anniversary, we love the restaurant fantasic freshly cooked food and lovely friendly staff. Would recommend this place highly. Reasonably priced too

My friends and I came here for a birthday meal. There were 9 of us and mostly all couples. We are a group all in our 30's. From the moment we sat down the waiter was very rude to us. When we weren't ready to order and asked for more time he huffed and rolled his eyes. This was repeated about 4 times before we were ready to order. Then when we were ordering, some of us wanted all you can eat and some said they wanted a la carte. He repeated more than 3 times that we were not to share food and would be charged 10% service charge plus all of us would have to pay all you can eat prices. We are well aware of this - and had no intention of sharing. Unfortunately the unwelcome feeling upset my friend very much (it was his 36th birthday) and so we paid for our drinks and left. We decided to take our business elsewhere. Such as shame as some of the other staff were lovely.

My family and I decided to buy a takeaway from this restaurant. We normally buy our takeaway from another place, but we decided to try somewhere different - we were pleasantly surprised. The food was pretty good, and it seemed fairly good value for money. The staff were polite and helpful. The only down was that some kf the meat was slightly chewy, however this could show that real meat was used and not fake meat, so it wasn't too big a thing. We'll definitely come back here again in the future!

They do lovely food and the lunch buffet is good value for money. But there is a 10% service charge that they don't tell you about! The staff are very nice and polite and it is a nice place to eat.

Been here loads of time they do a lovely buffet but yea was not told about the 10% charge found out when paying for the bill but still was very good food evening and afternoon buffet and you have to clear all the food on your plate before you can order more but you can order as much as you like I think that fare

We were welcomed and placed at a table in the restaurant. Drinks were served quickly and we helped ourselves to a lovely eat as much as we liked buffet.The food was very nicely displayed and the different aroma's were wonderful. As for the flavour, great!This time the waitress was attentive, didn't whisk the plate away immediately, which we found better.Dessert was ice-cream and very tasty.Lovely, healthy main meal and a naughty treat of ice-cream, well worth the money.

I have read more recent reviews and can only speak for when I visited of a lunchtime in May and I wasn't subject to service charge as a single dinner. The food isn't extensive, but the 10-12 dishes that were available were all pleasant enough. There was tap water aplenty for those who wanted it, or jugs for the table that they seemed okay to bring to people.

We have never tried the lunchtime buffet but the evening dinner gives you a choice of over 100 different dishes. For a set £15.99 (weekend) you can eat as much as you want. But unlike the usual pile it high buffet, each course is brought to your table when you want it. The best way to enjoy a meal at the China Royal is to order each course separately and have a break between courses. Remember, you can order over and over again. The quality of the food is really good.The main dining room is large and there is a smaller function room which is opened when the main restaurant is busy.Probably the best Chinese restaurant in Chichester.
