Fanastic staff, the most amazing beef satay skewers (seriously...try them!!!), perfect flavour. Every dish was extremely high quality and tasty. We also loved the feel / look of the place . We visited China Red and were blown away by the wonderful service, lovely atmosphere and amazing, delicious food. The staff are friendly and accommodating, nothing is a problem and the food is fresh and delicious. Since being for a sit down meal we have also been for takeaway a couple of times and the food is just as fresh and delicious. I couldn’t recommend this place high enough.

The menu is varied with different cuisines from Asia. The food is first class, the service friendly, the prices reasonable.

Visited here based on a recommendation and had high hopes! Sadly very disappointed! Whilst the food tasted ok, the restaurant was dirty, loud and unwelcoming. Service was awful. We had to wait 20 minutes to get a drink, even then had to ask if we could order, then wait an eternity for our food, despite watching a never ending stream of takeaways going out. The day after we all felt awful and so tired which I can only put down to the vast amount of MSG added to the food. We certainly won’t be visiting again in a hurry.

Since first reviewing this about 5 years ago we had been visiting fairly regularly up to lockdown. Just returned this evening after a long gap, and we were delighted to find everything is absolutely as good as before. Friendly, efficient, and excellent food. With many of the traditional Chinese restaurants disappearing from the area we hope this one will keep going!

Fantastic food and friendly staff. We had one of the banquet meals and all dishes were excellent. Would definitely recommend and return when we are in the area.

Twice ordered a take a way first time the chilli beef was hard ordered this again told them about it, second time just the same , won’t go again .

Tonight was our first visit to China Red. The friendly staff were cheerful and polite, and they were attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious; we particularly enjoyed the smoked chicken which was included in our hors d’ouevres, but actually the whole meal was great. We were given hot napkins at the end of the meal, which we appreciated and thought was a nice touch. Thank you to all tne staff at China Red for a lovely evening, we’ll definitely be back!

We decided to order a takeaway after a friend recommended. So last night had friends round and ordered 12 different dishes. From Hong Kong chicken, Mixed chow mein, rice, sides, beef in black bean sauce, prawns, chilli beef etc. Every dish was tasty, fresh and by far the best Chinese we have ever had. I am known to be fussy when it comes to takeaways. But it was hot , nothing was greasy and although the price was higher than our local takeaways, it was worth it. Thank you.

Been eating at China reds over the past 15 years . Had take out last week due to recent world virus! . Food was ready to pick up in 20 mins nicely packed . At home unpacked dished up eaten. Fab quality and 95% as good as served in restaurant . Best I've had for take out can't wait to go back in and enjoy in restaurant.

We have eaten at China Red many times either on our own as a couple or with a large family group. Always the standard of food has been excellent and the friendly service is lovely

Often visit this restaurant as the food is always delicious. When lazy I get the takeaway which is good. All the food is excellent but I can recommend the prawn dishes and one of the best starters is the salt and pepper chicken wings - wonderful

I Love this restaurant and the food here. I use to be a regular at their old branch in Ware until it closed and have since come here , Usually on Mother's Day . It is further for me to come but always worth the journey! The lady who owns it is SO nice and always remembers me. The service is great and the food comes quickly. They are the best prawn crackers too! My Mum and i shared a lemon chicken, a lamb dish, broccoli in ginger, noodles and bean sprouts and an egg fried rice. Really delicious . Good portion size .. Not greasy. Full of flavor.Value for money! Hope to come again soon!

Went for Valentine’s Day and the food was lovely. We were told when we booked that only a selection of set meals would be available but when we got there they were serving the full menu. Very busy with takeaways too. Good service.

We were invited to this restaurant by friends who have been coming here for years. Though we live near, for no reason, we had never been. First impressions were good. The service was impeccable as was the food. I say first impressions as we were with regulars so I am hoping when we go next time on our own it will be just as good and I will update my review.

Just ordered a large Chinese meal for the family while the service was excellent the food unfortunately was not very bland and greasy and overall not great overpriced and dull We will not be going again

I have waited until my fifth visit to rate this restaurant/take away as it is very easy to get carried away with an excellent meal received on a one-off visit, so I can categorically state now that the food and service here is excellent. I have been trying to find a decent Chinese takeaway near to where I live which unfortunately doesn’t exist and so I ventured out as far as Brookmans Park to find this gem. Admittedly there is little by way of parking locally but that’s not the fault of the restaurant, however once inside you are made very welcome if only to select a take away meal. To date I have sampled Kung Po chicken, Singapore noodles, egg fried rice, chicken chow main, smoked chicken, sweet and sour chicken balls, Malay curry, salt and chilli spare ribs and chicken wings, and lemon chicken all of which have been excellent. This restaurant also offers value for money; you may pay a little more than an average Chinese, but the food is not average and the quantity is outstanding for the price. I don’t hesitate in awarding five stars.

Having lived in the village now for 18 months, we regularly eat in and get take away. The food is always consistently good and the staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We have high standards and this genuinely ticks all the boxes.

If this is Hatfield area’s best Chinese, Hatfield is in trouble.

We've eaten here in the past and have found the food to be delicious, last night was no exception. The food was freshly cooked, hot and enjoyable. We ate the set menu and changed one dish to suit our tastes with no problems. Well worth a visit.

This is our local Chinese and we just love it - never had a disappointing order eating in or out, and both of my daughters have listed it as one of the best things about coming back from uni - China Red are even super mindful about accommodating my daughters boyfriend who has a peanut allergy as one of the guys has a daughter with the same issue - enjoy!

Been eating here since it first opened and have never had a bad experience Staff always extremely friendly and food always superb. Great atmosphere too and very reasonably priced. Shall always recommend it.

Over priced for below average Chinese food - chewy chicken, flavourless chilli beef and fried rice and it is definitely not prawn in the prawn toast.

We visited to celebrate our anniversary. Food as usual was excellent; beautifully fresh and cooked. Served with a smile. I'm not a regular but Julie remembers my name and was very welcoming as were the other. The complimentary drink for our celebration was a very nice touch.

Enjoyed a great few drinks at Brookmans Bar round the corner and then came to China Red 2 for some food. Been here many times before and never a let down, always delicious food and friendly service.

After so looking forward to this restaurant it all turned to rudeness after eating our starter my 13 month granddaughter became distressed as she was teething she only started to cry for a few minutes when the waitress came and said to my daughter take the baby outside to get her some fresh air we have customers that don't like babies crying, upset my daughter did what the waitress said and left the restaurant unable to eat her meal of you don't like kids why have high chairs you should have a no children policy would never go back and the birthday boys birthday was ruined

Went to this restaurant tonight for the first time for a family birthday meal, 13 of us, my 13 month old baby was making a little bit of noise, nothing terrible as she was teething, I asked the lady for a high chair and when the lady brought it out to me she TOLD me to take my baby outside to calm her down and get her some fresh air, as people complain about babies crying, she said it in a rude manor! I couldn’t believe what I heard! I was so shocked so I left with my 2 children and partner, I had only been in there half an hour and we only had our starter. Terrible service and I will never go back there! This restaurant is not family friendly.

We booked a table for five for a family birthday gathering and decided, as we looked at the menu, that we just wanted to tuck into loads of starters and half a duck. No problem. The staff were great, adjusting portions and organising our personal banquet for us, and ensuring the food - which was delicious - arrived in a relaxed and efficient way. Lovely staff, really nice atmosphere. We are lucky to have such a nice Chinese restaurant walking distance from our home.

Before I write this review let me give some context in where Chinese cuisine falls. I have worked in various Chinese restaurants and also have been to many Chinese restaurants in the uk and across asia.

Arrived at 7pm mid week. Place was empty, which to me is a bad sign, but I was with family so didn't have much say. Staff very sweet and attentive. Our food arrived very quickly and hot. It was fine, nothing special, slightly bland for my liking. My son had duck, in a sauce, sounded nice, unfortunately for him it still had the skin on. I tried it, and I think if the skin was crispy it would work. By the time we had left there were a couple of more tables occupied.

Principales teníamos gambas al jengibre y cebolla. Carne y Singapur fideos y un plato de cordero? ? Mis amigos disfrutaron de la comida y al igual que nosotros. El personal es encantador y simpático, y era un buen ambiente. Mucho mejor que la última visita.

It was interesting to read the last review because I have avoided writing a negative review myself about this restaurant because like so many others I agree the food generally is good however the "Take Away" service is a completely different story!! My family and I have eaten frequently in this restaurant and have had take aways even more frequently{shame on us] But over the last 2 years almost every take away had at least 1 item missing which ruins the meal!! Occasional mistakes are acceptable especially if you get an apology but not at China Red!! We have been made to feel bad for complaining and when we found a "Daddy Long Legs" deep fried in one of our dishes were told our custom was no longer welcome and was threatened with police action if I did not leave the restaurant!!!! What more can I say....beware!!!!!!

After a few years worth of takeaways and eating in we won't be back ever. The last few take aways have been wrong; dishes missing etc and by the time you get back home, who can be bothered to go back?; so you grin and bear it. When I've called to complain the whole "were too busy" attitude just isn't good enough. The next couple of times I've had to wait in the restaurant 20-45 mins for the order beyond he time I was told to collect. Again being British just grin and bear it, no apology whatsoever from the owners. This evening was the winner. Booked a table of 5 and all arranged to meet with friends; call back 20mins later to be told she's double booked us. Again zero apology and no real care at all. Food was always ok, average at best but being the only Chinese nearby we persevered. I would suggest you avoid this place until they have a rethink of how they treat their customers. They seem to be busy with the usual customers who are content with average food and average service.

I have been here on many occasion - normally a couple of times a year as I find it a bit pricier than your everyday Chinese meal. (For 2 of us - both had one large soft drink each, we usually pay between £60-£75 including a selection of starters and mains to share). That said, the quality here is very high.Personal favourites are the prawn toast, salt and pepper prawns and the Cantonese steak. Delicious! The steamed scallops are also divine and very reasonably priced. We tried the beef satay for the first time this week which I wouldn't order it again - it looked lovely and some parts were really tasty but some were really very chewy. The Cantonese duck wasn't crispy how we ordered it either but still tasty - these are the only 2 reasons it's not a 5.The service is superb - a really friendly lady who has been there a long time (she might be the proprietor) makes sure you have everything you need.We will definitely go back!

we had a takeaway from here a week ago. the food was generally good, but a bit pricey for a chinese takeaway - there was hardly any meat in both the chicken and beef chow mein, generally they were small portions and they don't deliver!saying that the duck was very good and they were very friendly, the restaurant was packed when we collected and i think the food is better when you eat in as i vaguely remember although the restaurant is tiny it's a bit cramped which is a nightmare if you get a noisy table next to you

Good quality Chinese restaurant in the centre of Brookmans Park. The set banquets are good and they will substitute dishes if you ask. Good friendly service. Particularly liked the starters and crispy duck.

Our first visit here. It deserves its high position in the Hatfield list. No complaints about the food. Only disappointment was that the menu was pretty much standard for Chinese. On the other hand, finding a Chinese with anything slightly adventurous is almost impossible. There was a small section of "specials" so perhaps my comment is a little harsh. We'd definitely return here.

We regularly visit the China Red for dinner and are always so impressed with how delicious the food is. It is on a completely different level to any other Chinese restaurants in the area. we've eaten in a lot of Chinese restaurants and this is one of our favorites, the food is always good not greasy and always tasty, The salt & pepper squid is one of my favorites. It can get busy but always a good atmosphere with attentive service and house wine!

Best fried squid I had for long time! Amazing taste, crispy outside and tender inside at just the right bite size. Stir fried veg was perfectly flavoured with garlic, crispy duck was crispy on skin and moist on shredded meat.Excellent caring service on Sunday evening ! Will be back.

Whether you choose your favourite dishes or choose a set menu all the food is fabulous. Definitely the best chinese in the Brookmans Park and Potters Bar area. Have visited a few times now and it is consistently excellent. Book to avoid disappointment if its a weekend.

An occasional treat - tends to be about £30 per head but the quality of the food is well worth it. You need to book on a Saturday night but it can be very busy at other times. Absolutely excellent.

We went here with friends last Saturday night. Table for 4 at 7:30pm. We arrived on time and were promptly seated at our table, laid for three!!!We were sitting in front of the bar and the one thing noteable in this place is it is clearly popular for take-away as well, as there was steady stream of people coming in to collect and / or order their Chinese take out. (I heard one guy told there was an hour and ten minute wait!!)All of this meant that we were virually ignored. No drinks or complimentary prawn crackers for the first 15 minutes and when we did get served, drinks took an age to arrive at our table. My friend who had chosen the venue was apologising to us for most of the night.The food is good if not excellent. Pretty standard decent Chinese fair, but if the service had been good i may have given a 5.They need either more staff or a seperate system for takeaway orders, as those takeout customers stood by our table queueing all night in a steady stream, while we ate our dinner.£123 for 4 people we thought was good including drinks, but the service was poor all night. Pleasant enough, just insufficient staff for the obvious demand.

We went for dinner and took my parents as well.There were a mixture of us half veggie and half meat eaters, so we ordered the set veggie menu and added to it for the carnivores .The starters were plentiful and tasty , this was followed by the duck and mock version for us.Both were very nice , the mains were bountiful and full of flavour not a bad course amongst them .We always enjoy the food here and will be back again shortly

We went for the Emperors Feast Set Menu. The starters were piping hot and the prawn toasts were exceptionally good with a good layer of prawns. The generous serving of aromatic duck was moist and tasty with 4 pancakes each. We were rather full already so probably didn't appreciate the mains as much as we should have done. The beef with black peppercorn sauce was my favourite.

Came here on a week night, staff were very friendly, good fun and attentive.Excellent menu with lots of choice and a great selection of food, food arrived quickly. Busy Restaurant with attentive staff and good food - good value for money - close to the train station

I was so looking forward to a Chinese meal, we had not had one for ages. There were 6 of us, all family celebrating for the New Year. We waited about half an hour for our starters, I had paper wrapped prawns and they were very soggy in fat! The spare ribs went down well with the rest of my family. We then waited an hour for our main course. By this time we had drunk a bottle of wine and on our second! The food was very average and I can't believe quite tasteless. I was so disappointed and so were the rest of the family. What really got to me was that I know it was New Years Eve, not many people seated at the tables but they were doing loads of take-aways and we had to wait while they did them all first, that is not right when you are paying for a service.

This is a nice restaurant with a good range of food and friendly waiting staff as well. We only come here a couple of times a year, but always get a very good welcome. The food is tasty and a reasonable price. Another thing I like is that the restaurant always seems so clean and bright.

I've had quite a few takeaways from here, as it's situated about 50 yds from my daughter's house, so when I babysit, I ALWAYS have a yummy meal from China Red ! I think GOOD Chinese restaurants are few and far between, and I've been looking for a good local one for ages, so I was delighted to find this restaurant last year when my daughter & family moved to Brookmans Park.I go out with an old mate on most Saturday eves for a meal, so we're going here on Saturday, because the food is so good. I know I can be assured of a good meal :-)

Evening meal for three, really nice little restaurant only 10 tables.The service is prompt and polite the waiter/owner was really good, the starters, soups and mains were excellent, all dishes were great tasting and served hot (which I like) the beers were cold (which I like) and reasonably priced.Overall good value for money and would definitely return to China again!

I liked this restaurant. We were early for our booking but this was no problem. We were also the last to leave but the staff were really polite and did not try to hurry us out... even though they were waiting to have their own meal. The food was delicious. The mixed starters had a nice variety and the crispy duck middle course (my favourite) was done to perfection. I had chilli beef and rice for my main course - lovely. There were a couple of mistakes - the wrong drinks and the wrong rice - but these were quickly put right with no fuss. I also got a free brandy on the house! Parking is limited. We ended up parking a fair way away.

I am not a great fan of Chinese food at the best of times but my takeaway from this place was inedible, spare ribs were mainly fat. Horrible.

I always come here when we fancy Chinese food. It's tasty and the staff are friendly and genuine. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't tried it. They do take away as well as dining in. Prices are reasonable. The only thing I would say is that the chicken could be better quality - it's a bit average.

Returned for a birthday party that consisted of 4 adults and 2 children.From previous experience went for the set meal option , again found the food good but felt rather cheated as the amount of food served was not much more for the six of us that before when we visited as a couple.!Was one of the most expensive meals I have ever had and would say that it definitely was not value for money and shall not be returning.

If you are looking for good quality food this is the place to go! All the staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice. When the food comes it is always fresh and tasty.
