China Palace in Arun

Lovely restaurant, very busy. staff did not give much attention to us and male staff appeared miserable and abrupt!! Food was good portion but not as good as last visit.

The best Chinese and what lovely surroundings with the historical ceiling. Impacable service and the best tasting fresh food. Well done you all

Not impressed by the food in relation to the food quality. The place looks as lovely as it did in past times. At least the ceiling does. Food is not as good I recall. It was lunchtime but not exceedingly busy. I chose from the al a carte menu. Disappointed. Perhaps better in the evening.🤔 I'll not know as I don't plan on going back again.

I rang the day before to ensure that both of these issues could be catered for. I was told there are only 3 steps to get into the restaurant and we would only have to speak to the waiter on arrival regarding the dietary issues. The fact is there are only three steps into the restaurant but then after that there are numerous steps inside as the building is on a variety of levels. As regards the dietary needs we were told that I should have called ahead of time (which I did) and that all of the food was now marinating and initially there was nothing available. After numerous visits of the waiter who didn’t seem to have a clue, eventually the manager came over and gave my mother just 1 choice only and spoke to her as if this was a big favour. The entire experience was ruined from the first instance knowing that what I was told on the phone was nonsense. My advice is do not go here if you have any disabilities.

This restaurant is visually stunning and the food is delicious. Whether we are with the kids or on date-night, my wife and I love this place whenever we are visiting this part of the UK. Highly recommend Set Menu B, which we usually go for!

Every year on New Year’s Day, we go to the China Palace and have the most amazing food with our friends and our hangovers!! We also go there other times too, but New Year’s Day is the best!

Best Chinese food around. We normally have the set meal, which is more than enough for two of us. The service is always good and friendly. Nice rose wine too!!

What an amazing restaurant, William and his team are superb. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone goes out of there way to ensure you dinning experience is exactly what is should be. 41 of us all looked after so well and every dish tasted excellent. The portion sizes and the service is just brilliant. Thank you again for making the evening superb. Would recommend you to anyone and we will be back again.

£330 Lunch bill for family of 8 + 1 small child. This included £30 service charge. This only included one small beer alcoholic drink & lots of Chinese tea. The food main courses were very good But £18 charge for 4 small side plates of prawn crackers was excessive & rarely charged by most Chinese restaurants. Also £16.80 for a soup size bowl of egg fried rice which was supposed to be for 3 was very expensive. Unfortunately you dont know about these until the bill arrives so if you go to China palace Arundel ask for each portion of rice in an individual bowl & beware the small dishes plates of prawn crackers are £4.50 each, nobody minds paying for good food & service but we felt we were ripped off & shall not be returning.

First time here and loved the whole experience. We booked 15 places for a special birthday and were very happy with the food and service. Highly recommended.

Brilliant Chinese restaurant in the heart of the historic town of Arundel with paid for parking nearby and excellent service

Visited midweek evening for birthday meal. Hadn’t been here in years and came hoping that we would get a decent Chinese meal, which seems difficult to get elsewhere locally. We weren’t disappointed! We started with spring rolls and chicken satay both delicious and fresh. We had chicken with ginger and garlic and chicken chow mein mains. We also had steak in black bean sauce on recommendation of our waiter. It was the best steak I’ve ever had in a Chinese or in many other places to be fair! It was so tender and absolutely delicious! Still thinking about it now!!!! 😂 Service was really good, friendly and helpful but not intrusive. It was busy for a Thursday which must be a good sign. Surroundings are lovely and all in all we had a really lovely evening - thanks China Palace for making my birthday eve so nice. Will definitely be back soon!

What a superb Chinese restuarant ! Ate there Friday lunchtime and had the place virtually to ourselves although there was a constant stream of people collecting take aways. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was out of this world. Chicken satay and spare ribs as starters followed with sweet n sour chicken balls with egg fried rice. I kid you not the very best Chinese I've tasted in many a year. Highly recommended.

Used to be excellent, now quite poor. Terrible service had to wait several hours to have 2 courses and the waiters were very rushy.

The food as usual was delicious if a bit pricey But the service wasn't particularly friendly, our waiter looked like he wanted to be anywhere except at work. A smile from him would have been nice

Very nice chicken chow mein. Would have give 5 stars but found some of the staff a little impatient/brash.

I phoned on the Sat to book, was advised they close at 2 and last food orders 1.30, so I asked if ok to book 1.15, was told yes. Arrived on time on Sunday to an empty restaurant, first thing said to us was that they close at 2. After that friendly greeting I asked if we would be thrown out at 2, was told we wouldn't be. Another couple arrived shortly after us to the same greeting re closing time, they promised they knew what they wanted and would be very quick. Our menus arrived, covered in food sauces, we asked for clean ones. We ordered a set menu, waiter looked concerned, said starters would have to come same time as crispy duck, we said ok. While having our starters, waiter came out to advise mains would come soon as chef was finishing. We were made to feel very uncomfortable and under serious time pressure throughout, really feel they shouldn't bother opening for lunch if this is their attitude to customer service. I thought this was going to be an enjoyable experience in a restaurant with a good reputation. Unfortunately it was nothing of the sort, we will never return.

Outstanding food, welcome and service. Lovely atmosphere. Staff couldn’t do more for us and everyone was looked after perfectly. Delicious - possibly the best Chinese I’ve had.

2nd visit here and William and his team couldn’t have looked after us better. Great table, lovely wine and fantastic food and the way William personally ensured my sister who’s Gluten intolerant had a specific meal made just for her was so very appreciated - will be back again and would so so recommend

Best chinese takeaway we've ever had!! Was staying locally in Arundel. Very accommodating as arrived a little early but SO friendly and quick. Was all so tasty and gutted not closer to where we live.

I love this restaurant, yes it's pricey but normally the food is on point. I think we went on a off day.. I ordered the battered squid with sweet n sour sauce.. didn't receive the sauce and the batter and squid was not very nice. ALL the rest of the food was utterly devine. The waiter spilled not one but two drinks because he was very busy and in a rush and it happened to the same guest each time. I will go back but it was a little frustrating the few things that did happen.

An incredibly succulent Chinese meal. The food was some of the best Chinese I had purchased in time. At a price point of 16.70 for a two course lunch, we were heavily satisfied. The decor was en pointe (Chinese), beautiful and authentic, including the junk boat sails, large tiger dragon and the stencilled acrylic dragon light. It was a scenic setting for such a brilliant meal, especially when one takes into account the 300 year old Italian wooden carved ceiling, fantastique! Our waiter was outstandingly courteous and knowledgeable about his fine eatery. He prepared us for a fine meal through his eloquent explanation of the establishment, which put us at ease as we were taken on a journey through his asian routes through both the extraordinary food and his whitty anecdotes. The palace was Chinese. The food was Chinese. The ceiling was Italian.

Had a bit of a bad customer service experience here some years ago, but as we are local decided to give it another go! Have to say it was a complete success! Excellent air conditioning on a muggy humid summers evening in the elaborately decorated restaurant. An excellent menu with good customer service, we didn't have to wait long for any courses. The food was very good and while not representing particularly good value for money was still very enjoyable, we will return!

We have not been to this restaurant for at least a year and it would appear there has been a change of ownership since then. Previously the food and service had always been first class but on our latest visit, food was mediocre for the price paid and staff acted like they couldn’t care less whether we were there or not. Hence to say we will not be returning.

Stumbled in on our first evening in Arundel and very pleasantly surprised by the food. The nicest quality Chinese we've had in a long time. We had a selection of dishes and each one couldn't be faulted. Great quality. Service was also nice, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely go again when we're next in Arundel. We also quite liked the interior of the restaurant. Whilst a bit dated it was very oriental and lots of attention to detail.

Not impressed with our takeaway for 4 people this evening. First and foremost extortionate price for just a few dishes - £60 for chicken balls,chow mein, a curry and a rice. 60 pounds!!!! Secondly they forgot to add the prawn balls (which now I'm happy they did because goodness knows what they would have pumped the bill up to), and thirdly we asked for delivery and were informed the delivery driver was off sick so to add insult to injury we had to go pick it up. DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!!! Won't be using again

Food was lovely but very disappointed to be charged a £35 service charge because there was 5 adults and 1 child at the table. When we questioned this charge they advised us they charge a 10% service fee for 5 or more people). We certainly won’t be going back.

Been at least 4 years since we were here Spare of the moment decision So glad we did Love the decor, no other Chinese restaurants can better it in my humble opinion Food on the pricey side but plenty of meat,fish on each dish not bumped up with veg or noodles. Very disappointed, service appalling. Advised the chef forgot our order. Waited an hour for the starter and naturally the plates were cold that were placed on the table on arrival. Surly waiter with no finesse and very off putting that they were all wearing face masks- not very conducive to start the evening. Great food with loads of seating- multiple floors in fact! Lots of food to choose from and the staff are so attentive and friendly. they really add a personal and memorable touch to the evening. The food was hot and delicious with the sauces being so flavourful and really adding to the meal

Initially I was looking forward to eating here until we were put at the back of the restaurant with the loud riff-raff, food felt very pricey although quite tasty, but didn't feel I received anything special for the money spent here.

Lovely classic Chinese restaurant with tasty straightforward fare. We went there early this evening with our 18 month old daughter, the staff were great and very kind and accommodating- seating us away from others so our toddler could be a toddler without causing us, staff or others any stress!

Lovely traditional restaurant. Meals arrived at our table hot and a small heater was placed in the middle to keep the food warm. Each dish tasted fresh and we each said that it was the best Chinese we have had. They are open for lunch and dinner, which is great as the Chinese restaurants where we live tend to only open in the evening. Will definitely return!

We’ve just come back from a lovely meal as always, but unfortunately felt extremely uncomfortable the whole time we were in the restaurant. One waiter stayed hovering around the table fiddling with our table cloth while we were eating and clearing parts of our table while we were still eating. When we made payment as we were sorting the money out my aunt was trying to find the right card he just placed the card machine by her card so it took payment without us seeing the amount and it was then used with the wrong card (still looking for the right on at the time) I will not be returning as I was made to feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable by him. Being a newly disabled young person this was just to much.

There is a great menu available and with so much choice we decided to go for one of the restaurant's set meals and it was delicious! The owner and all his staff provided excellent personal service and we would definitely return.
