The best fish and chips for miles around. Definitely worth the queue. BUT please please please stop calling me mate when ordering. A simple yes please, or next please. Never mate, buddy, guys etc

Greeted by the lovely staff, great food and one of the few places Rock is on the menu. The waiting staff were extremely polite and helpful. The food is really good but we always can here due the amazing service. Thanks guys

Really enjoyable experience. Though the food is not my favourite, as the batter was a tad too oily and not dry enough for my taste, it was still excellent quality and delicious.

Always the absolute best of the best at Chez Fred- unmatched, best cod and chips I’ve ever had. We made a mistake on our order (our fault not theirs!) and the staff were super quick to make sure we were happy and sorted it out for us, no fuss. Service is fantastic, grub is unreal and it’s always busy for a reason!🙏🏼 P.s You HAVE to try their curry sauce, it’s world class!

We went for a day out in Bournemouth and we went for dinner here it was amazing, the fish was fresh, chips were amazing and the chips were unlimited. Price was reasonable and service was also very good. I would definitely come here again.

Visited for fish and chips. Disappointing as so loud and noisy, busy venue. Battered fish very nice as was pea fritter. Chips pale yellow and fatty. Prefer twice cooked chips. Not be visiting again.

Arrived just after opening on a Wednesday evening, and found restaurant very busy with a small queue outside. After a short wait we were seated , and served quickly. Menu was not over complex like some restaurants, and perfect for the type of food being served. A good deal is also offered that includes main meal, bread, wine or beer and coffee. We had cod and chips and also fishcake and chips, both were perfectly cooked and the fishcakes probably the best I have had. Staff were friendly and efficient, and kept very busy! Small point - you can have salad instead of chips at a cost of £1 extra, given that the chips are unlimited I did not see why salad should cost more. Note that this did not distract from the great quality of the meal or service in any way.

Local gem! Used to work here (many years ago) and it's just as good now. Revamped inside so looks more modern. Definitely recommend

Never disappoints. The best fish and chips you can find. Mushy peas a must too. Staff fabulous food amazing and always freshly cooked. Wine a bit pricy for house wine in this sort of restaurant I felt. Around £23 a bottle I think. You can’t book you just have to wait but it’s worth it.

We come here twice a year and once again on Saturday this restaurant was amazing. I think pound for pound is probably my favourite restaurant and I’ve been lucky enough to go to some great places around the world. It knows what it is and does it very well. The busy restaurant staff make the difference – they all look for work, wanting to turn over tables promptly because there’s always a queue, but without rushing the diners. Brilliant service. Brilliant fish and chips. Brilliant value, but you will have to queue….

Great food everything brilliant but be warned that there’s no car park at location & limited opening times. Definitely come back my only negative point is that the tables feel very close together & it’s very noisy so not a place to have a quiet conversation lol!

Very tasty food, great service and overall a wonderful experience.

This was my first visit to the restaurant, we couldn't fault anything. The place was very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. We ordered cod and chips, they were the best we have ever had. Nice size portion and really fresh and hot. We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert it was delicious with lots of ice cream. Our waitress Caitlyn was absolutely wonderful, so friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place, will definitely be returning. Thank you

tremendous fish & chips with exceptional service

Brilliant. Have been here several times in groups, with friends/family and this occasion by myself. Ordered the kids cod and chips that came with mushy peas. AMAZING portion size and incredibly cooked. Ordered ahead and was notified when I could collect. Staff were brilliant. Could not recommend more highly.

Me and the missus are always DFL (Down from London) and religiously make sure we have a Chez Fred at least once during our time in Westbourne. Hands down the best fish and chips in the area

It is really one of the best fish and chips you can eat in England. They have many customers and there is a great demand that, you shouldn't go there very hungry because you will wait long for sure. There is no reservation and you need to be ok with waiting and than getting the best service with big smile on their face. The fish is very delicious one of the best that I have ever eaten in UK.

Was recommended Chez Fred by our accommodation - was absolutely delicious! The mushy peas really were delicious, chicken tenders and scampi were also amazing. The staff were all very lovely. It does get VERY busy though so book ahead and don’t be in a rush!

Very good Fish and Chips. I believe they fry in groundnut oil which is especially good - I have only ever been a Takeaway customer but as I say it is excellent . If you only want a snack to take out they do a light bite small portion of cod, chips and mushy peas about £6 Very Good long established business!

Dine in was absolutely awesome having the Special Offers deal on Cod or Haddock, each with a bowl of mushy peas, with a Beer or glass wine, a Jug of water, unlimited Chips, Tea & Coffee.

I like how people there really work from heart and love their job , keep smiling and welcoming the customers. The food really nice and delicious, I’ve tried normal Cod fish and chips and It was so yum, it’s not my first visit and it won’t be last.

Wonderful quality fish & chips. My 1st visit and I chose the busiest day! Well worth the wait for a seat. Staff were brilliant, offering more chips etc. Noticeably a well chosen group of people who worked very hard, but all seemed to get on well with their colleagues. Really good to see in this day and age.

We read about this fish and chip restaurant, so being here we just had to try it. Oh my goodness, how good was the fish, it had a light and so crispy batter, with soft fresh fish. Wait for it, yes, it’s true unlimited chips ! ! my husband did go for seconds, I was full already. The sides were all fresh too and it was piping hot. Spotless restaurant and incredibly happy staff. Lunch was a total win.

Researched this place whilst home in London and knew I had to come here. It didn’t disappoint. The fish was so fresh and batter light and crispy. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Enjoyed every bite. Definitely the best fish and chips I’ve had so far in my 48 years

6 of us visited here for lunch today. 4 had been before on many occasions but we were the new kids on the block. We all had various versions of their standard fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce - some had salad in place of chips but still had extra chips! Fantastic meal enjoyed by all - the very light batter was superb.

From Vancouver Island Canada, visiting family, the Fish Chips and mushy peas were as epic as promised, being expat Brits we relived our best memories of good old British Fish & Chips.

Everybody says "the best fish&chips" but I thought food was avarage. Nice and cozy inside though. Would go back again only because it feels cozy to sit inside and food is okay. Wouldn't go back just because of the food.

Such a lovely place to eat, the food is so fresh and always tasty. The staff are friendly and seem so happy to be doing what they do. The place is always packed but well worth waiting in the line to dine in. Fabulous place.

I love eating in this place, but I was most surprised, disappointed, and even a little angered recently, when paying my bill by way of a card, which on this occasion was approximately £36 for two of us, (usually more), I was given the option of clicking her machine to give her a 10% gratuity, or 20% or 30%, with no option to decline. The waitress hovered over me watching to see how much I was going to tip her, which intimidated me into reluctantly clicking 10%, taking my bill to almost £40. It left a bad taste in my mouth, which overrode the nice taste of the meal I had just enjoyed. This will cost Chez Fred an awful lot more than the repugnant tip I was embarrassed into paying. An awful lot more!

What can I say. AMAZING. Staff, food can't be bettered. Would like to go every day 😁

can be a long wait but the fish and chips are good as is the restaurant. When ordering to collect the service is great, as it is when just calling in I just find it more convenient to place an order then collect it.

Brought the family and friends here as per their request upon arriving from HongKong. Its a small well known local favorite sharing a separate section in the rataurant for takeaways. Well litted and clean but very busy place. I may not be big on seafood but my folks are. Folks comment on Chez were always outstanding value for the generous portion size, good quality fresh food and prep well. The service was very friendly. Fish never over battered and a good choice of sides and sauces with free flow chips. I personally have no complains apart from the 30mins wait outside the restaurant in the cold before been seated. Carpark is 5 mins walk away behind Iceland Nonetheless, Chez Fred is an example of good old fashion Brit Chippy where tradition and dedication was kept well into the present. This made the family very happy therefore i am happy. Great stuff will recommend them for the best local fish and chippy without a shadow of a doubt.

Been bringing my kids to Chez Fred since they were born so naturally wanted to celebrate my daughter’s engagement there on Saturday. When the waitress heard our news she gave us a free glass of Prosecco! Thank you everyone, you are wonderful xxx

OK - my fault ordering on line a day ahead & not changing the date to the next day. Error pointed out by staff when collecting but as they already have the money maybe you could just wait to be served? Told that I would have to pay 50% more for the fish! Why? They were not busy. The fish must have been available since it was offered but my error was a chance to grab some more money. Walked out on principal so they have £17.80 of mine. General issue - be careful when ordering. Menu charges for delivery are a lot higher than collection AND you pay a delivery charge. e.g cod & chips for collection at £9.75 total but same for delivery £11.70 (£1.95 more) & where I live just 0.5 miles away, £2.40 delivery charge so £14.10 total. A difference of £4.35. The web site is cunning enough to have separate menu pages so it's easy to miss the mark up. A typical family order would cost a great deal more if delivered. The only other takeaway I use is Top Wok. They have a set menu charge plus delivery if required so no sharp practice there. Since I live near, I've been using Chez Fred for decades but sadly in the past few years they seem to have got rather greedy. I know the wholesale prices have gone sky high and that's reflected in their charges but they seem to be cashing in with two tier charging. The food has always been excellent but they will not be seeing me again.

Unsurprisingly we had to queue for about 20 minutes, but well managed and it was a Saturday evening!

Quite a wait for a table but so worth it. Great food, great service and great value. Only issue: it was a bit cold in the restaurant, problem with heating. All the same, we had a lovely evening and the walk back to the hotel warmed us up.

Went for the lunchtime deal and it was absolutely delicious. We were seated straight away by the friendly team , service was quick and efficient. The food was fresh , hot , tasty and plenty of it. Would certainly visit again.

Having moved recently from London we thought we would give Chez Fred a try on a neighbour recommendation. What a excellent decision. We dined in and opted for the Lunchtime Special which at £12.95 was superb value when you get Cod- unlimited chips- mushy peas-bread roll-sauces-unlimited tea/coffee&water. The service is great and the food cooked to perfection and also the decor and cleanliness is amazing. Could easily be a regular go to place but the waistline would be expanding rapidly.

Sat 18th Nov 2023 approx 5pm Called in at Chez Fred to get Fish & Chips. Didn't think the service was up to the usual service I've come to expect. Guys all chatting at til point and not quick to take my order (or other customers I might add), lots of discussions going on and fist pumps with the motorbike delivery guys....I have no issue with harmonious working comradery but keep it professional with customers around. Because of the chit, chat an order went out on the bike wrong, lots of discussion and the bike came back. I noticed that the guys preparing customer food orders having fist pumped the bikers didn't bother washing their hands afterwards.... Asked for boxes to be left open so I could add salt and vinegar....they boxed, sealed and packed the order which I then had to unpack. Just not listening as too interested in the banter !! Food as usual good, such a pity it seems the standards seem to be dropping front of shop. Sorry, not the best experience on this occasion.

Highly recommend after eating in today around midday. Very polite and professional staff(especially the lady greeting customers as they come in) Our fish and chips(Lunchtime Special) was very nice, hot, and well presented. Our roll was hot and there was plenty of food on the plate, and all washed down with a cup of coffee and a tea(for us) A very nice experience and very good value for money. Scott and Paulette

We had large cod and chips delivered to our hotel room and it was beautiful - every bit as good as we've had in the restaurant. Best mushy peas too.

Go regularly it used to be nice but recently the batter on the chicken is burnt as is the chicken itself. Amd the chips on a meal deal are always bottom if the barrel scraps no chips just scraps

Cod and chips lunchtime special. Served with mushy peas. Bread roll and tea or coffee included. Lovely white fish with this crispy batter...it was delicious. You can have extra chips if you would like them as well!

Always a great meal here. My third visit and the food is great. Never needed to take advantage of the bottomless chips!! There can be queues both too dine in or take out. So make sure you time your visit or accept the wait out is well worth it.
