Cherry Tree in Brighton and Hove

Awful gluten free cake and basic eggs on toast poor value in an average setting. Avoid this cafe even Asda nearby would have been much better.

Called in here today (Sunday) after our walk - it had rained earlier but was warm and sunny and we fancied an afternoon cuppa. I ordered and paid at 3:25 and was told it would be take away cups, which wasn’t what I’d seen in the pictures online so I was confused. Inside was empty and there were 2 staff members yet we had to ask for something to dry the seats with. Rather than come out and do it for us, they gave us paper to do it ourselves! We had a black coffee and a black Earl Grey which were too hot to drink and didn’t cool down in the tall paper cups. There was nothing to get the tea bag out with either. At 3:45 I took our cups back in as the drinks weren’t enjoyable in the take away cups and I asked why no china - I was told it was because they were closing soon! (Not until 4!) We won’t stop here again - we like proper china/tea pot and a bit of customer service. There was no excuse for paper cups when they still had 35 minutes of opening time. We could have had better and far cheaper at Macdonalds around the corner if we wanted take-always.

Popped in here for coffee and breakfast en route to Brighton. It doesn’t look like much from outside - but the staff are lovely and very friendly and helpful and the food and coffee is great. Also have gluten free bread for those who can’t eat gluten and they totally get the whole coeliac thing so check about putting your gf bread in the toaster where wheat-containing bread has been.

I have been here many times now. i have met the owner a few times as it always seems like she is there grafting away! Nothing but kind words to herself and her staff. The manager is amazing and always makes me feel like I’m special. They offer a reward card which meant I got my 8th coffee free 😍 There is something about getting the nicest Latte I have ever had for free. Couldn’t recommend their full English any more also, and thank you again.

I have been to the Cherry Tree cafe a few times in the last few months and every single time has been lovely! I believe the service, coffee and food are all incredibly lovely!

Today I went in with my family ordered pancakes with bacon and was suprised with the big portions!! Really worth the money. Coffees were amazing as well me and my husband absolutely loved our animal lattes which featured a cute frog and a cat. All the food is absolutely lovely and the staff couldn’t be nicer really caring about making the dining experience a great one. Will be returning and recommending to anyone in the local marina area.

Popped in for a bit of breakfast with the girls and it was lovely! I’ve seen a few reviews say that it’s overpriced but everything is great quality and for what you get I’d gladly pay it! Staff are super friendly as well, overall perfect breakfast spot!

I am a barista myself and I am very happy with this cafe. The coffees were splendid and i asked for a flat white and I was pleased to see that it was 3/4 full because otherwise it would of been too large for a flat white. Lovely cafe and definitely worth a visit.

First visit as it was a nice location but thats it. The smallest piece of Victoria sponge you have ever seen and a 3/4 full flat white. Couldnt complain at the time as there was a queue. Staff could have been more pleasant to. Would definitely not go there again.

The staff are the friendliest I have had in a long time. The coffee is excellent and the food is also incredibly tasty. Love how peaceful it can be on a weekday too.

Wandering around the marina whilst on holiday we spotted Cherry Tree and decided to try their full English (breakfast food served until 2pm). Dog-friendly. Very helpful and friendly staff. Food was freshly cooked and delicious. We will be back!

Desayuné hoy, que consistía en huevos escalfados con tostadas. Tuve que pedir tostadas sin gluten (opción en el menú) para que mi hijo pudiera comer un poco. La persona que tomó mi orden fue antipática y cortante. Llegó la comida, apenas tibia y en dos pequeños trozos de tostada gf. Miré a mi alrededor los platos de otros y era evidente que ni siquiera podían molestarse en agregar un poco de 'decoración para que se vea mejor y mucho menos agregar una rebanada adicional dado los 5. 50 etiqueta de precio. Solía ser agradable y amigable, las últimas dos visitas no han sido geniales y ahora se quedarán con El perro que ríe.

Popped in for a drink. Greeted with “just to let you know we close in half an hour”. My hot Chocolate was cold. Two girls chatted constantly without a glance in anyone’s direction to see if anyone needed help, clearly didn’t want our custom.

We like this restaurant, the staff are warm and friendly. The food is good and they have the most adorable dog.

Popped in here for a coffee - OK 2 - while waiting for someone. Great cappuccino and also a great decaf cappuccino. Good tasting coffee and perfect foam. Pleasant staff who bring the coffee to your table and take orders.

Pedí un sándwich de ensalada de pollo para una persona con alergias a los lácteos. No se le pidió mantequilla, pero el sándwich se cubrió de mayonesa aunque no figuraba como ingrediente. Pidió otro sándwich sin mayonesa pero descubrió que el mismo sándwich regresó con la mayonesa raspada. El resto del pedido. . . . . pedí agua y me dijeron que fuéramos a buscarla desde el interior del café. El resto de la comida no tenía sabor. Todo esto dejó de ser importante en comparación con la actitud peligrosa frente a los alérgenos.

Myself and my friend voted this the best place to go for a Cheese Toastie...absolutely delicious. Just watch out for the seagulls who watch you from above...they came down in a pincer movement and pinched one of my Toasties, but the owner very kindly offered to make me another.

We did not have any cakes/food so can't judge these but the coffees were very weak and tasteless. Shocking....

2nd time I've visited the cafe. Great service with a smile. Good choice of food and drinks. Nice outside seating area in the sun or shade. Well worth a visit..

Prawn sandwich was awful. Just prawns and white mayonnaise which was so watery - dripped out of the sandwich as you ate. No seasoning whatsoever. Completely tasteless. And no garnish. Replaced free of charge with a Brie and bacon toastie which was ok. Not great but better. Won’t be returning or recommending.

One of the best brunches in Brighton! Avocado and eggs is my favourite and I’ve tried many but there’s is the best! Also love the fact all of their cakes are homemade! Great little cafe!

Four of us went yesterday......which was great as you can see the Big Screen Brighton Marina has put up showing Wimbledon! The food was delicious we had breakfast/brunch type food & coffee. If you sit outside I suggest you put the table umbrella up as there are some very cheeky Seagulls around, who can be very accurate swooping down to pinch your food! In our case it was a piece of toast with smoked salmon on it! The cafe did replace it for us

Second visit.. the lovely coffee bright me back. Bigger cups would be great as the coffee gets cold quickly Had the ham and cheese toastie today... have to say it was lovely. Real ham,not processed . Smile from the staff. Stop by if passing

Cafe Rouge was very busy with a 45 minute wait so we ventured to the Cherry Tree. Our table was dirty with bird droppings so we asked for it to be cleaned. Waitress cleaned one half then wiped an adjoining table’s chair which was splattered with seagull droppings. She proceeded to wipe other tables with the same cloth. Nice! We asked her to spray the other half of our table and we would wipe it with our own clean tissues which was greeted with a Kevin and Perry style loud tut.

2nd visit, 1st with friends where we'd had an average but expensive breakfast. Decided to give it another try. I'm sitting with no breakfast as we've been told they've run out of eggs! As over 50% of their menu seems to be egg based I'm not sure how they'll get through the rest of the day. Presumably they're waiting for the Asda superstore to open! Asked if I could have a glass of water, told to help myself. 5 decanters on the Welsh dresser, 4 empty and 1 with less than a glass left in it. Nothing says "fresh" in here, my friend's sausage seemed cooked twice, so brittle on the outside, and breakfast served too quickly. And now the chef has come out with her breakfast of... poached eggs! So there were enough for her but not for a customer. I guess the loss of local customers doesn't worry them as their clientele must be based on tourism. My advice? Avoid.

Came for coffee, couldn’t resist the Aussie breakfast - poached eggs, avocado, smoked salmon and sourdough with a bonus balsamic glaze that pulled the whole dish together. Excellent start to the day. Highly recommended.

I have to admit that my croissant was crispy and fresh and quite delicious and also my wife enjoyed her beans on toast on sourdough but I can’t bear bad coffee and this coffee was poor.

We entered as the only customers, the café dog was standing on one of the tables. The girl at the till told it to get down but did not clean the table. Very unengaging service with 'anything else' being the only conversation coming our way. Try to make your customers feel welcome.. Maybe a smile, or how are you, would go a long way to retaining customers and gaining recommendations. As a customer service manager for a national airline that is my First and last visit I'm afraid as I'm especially not keen on animals on dining tables.

After a walk along the Marina seafront with our two little dogs on a freezing afternoon, we stumbled on the Cherry Tree.

Good varied breakfast menu with sourdough and gluten-free options. A good treat in the fine weather if you like sitting outside and watching the world wander by.

Called for a spot of breakfast and what a lovely place. Food above average and very pleasant surrounding. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Good menu and reasonable prices for the area. Would call again.

Well. I've been here before for cake Andres. And was happy with what o git. Service is generally OK, bit but form all the staff. Anyway. Had a toasted cheese and caramelised onion sandwich today, which I'm afraid to say was totally tasteless. Very mild and cheap cheese and no taste of onion. This wasn't shame as its pute off from trying anymore

You would think it easy to toast a cheese sandwich however todays offer was greasy and tasteless. Cheese sandwiches should taste of cheese however this did not. Unable to have it with onion even though it is 5 minutes to Asda where they sell a wide variety of onions and tasty cheese at a very reasonable price.

Accidentally stumbled across this little gem whilst staying in the Brighton marina. The marina is full of chain restaurants, but then opposite has a cute little square with lots of independents. Stumbled across this and had an amazing breakfast. The food was delicious and eloquently served. It was cheaper than having breakfast at our hotel and I do not regret it one bit! Love supporting independent restaurants and this one is definitely not to be missed if in the area.

Gabi and her team always make me feel welcome. Lovely English breakfast with coffee. Nothing is too much trouble.

Love this place! Nothing beats an independently run coffee shop, so much better than all the chains dotted about everywhere. I had the lasagne which was amazing as well as the GF, VEG, lemon drizzle which was honestly the best cake I’ve ever had. Would definitely come back, the staff are really friendly and the owner clearly cares very much. Thank you!

Not that I'm usually a fan of 'free from' cakes but the gluten free lemon drizzle is to die for. Good coffee and the staff are always very welcoming.

After a stroll through the marina on a hot day, My partner and I decided on Cherry Tree for our coffee stop as we had been there before and knew they used Small Batch Coffee beans (a favourite) and had lovely vegan cakes.

We visited on Father’s Day and although very busy we managed to get a table for four. We ordered 3 coffees and a hot chocolate, all came out promptly and extremely hot, which is a pleasant surprise nowadays. We also ordered Breakfast, mine being an eggs floretine, which I must say is one of the best I have ever had! My partner had avocado on toast with extra poached eggs and mushrooms and again her eggs were poached to perfection. My father had a slice of carrot cake which he tells me is the best he has ever had and “he’s eaten a lot of carrot cake in his time”. I tried a bit and I must say it was very good! We will definitely be back!

I visited this cafe with my friends and loved the area and atmosphere of this cafe. Was delighted to see the range of homemade cakes with even a vegan option which was great. Lovely coffee and the girls were very friendly, will definitely visit again!

Lovely cafe in the prefect position in the marina. Wide range of choices catering to all ( vegan, gluten free) staff very cooperative and friendly ( as a fussy eater they were more than happy to let me change my order slightly!) would definitely be visiting again soon.

The cafe building and decor is really misleading in that it really looks nice but once you enter it’s downhill all the way.

Popped in with 7 family members for tea / coffee. Ok they’re not going to get rich off that but some interest would have been nice. Slight shower had wet the outside tables / chairs and as it was uncomfortably hot inside and very warm outside, we decided on an outside table. Unbelievably we were handed a couple of cloths and left to dry and clean the table / chairs. To finish it off nicely , the coffee was disgusting , more like tasteless warm dishwater. Plenty of other small coffee / tea shops in the marina. I shall definitely give this one a miss in future.

Went for breakfast here on a Bank Holiday Monday. The young woman serving couldn't have looked more disinterested. Barely any greeting or interest in customers. I ordered avocado on toast and my husband had a vegetarian breakfast. His coffee was good but he was appalled to see the girls's highly painted false nails on the rim of the cup to steady it as she walked. She did it again to another customer. He said 'thank you' to her but she didn't acknowledge it, or smile at all and just turned on her heels.

My wife and I dropped in here for coffee and cake before setting off for home. It was a beautiful bright day and with the boats sitting in the marina providing an attractive outlook as we enjoyed our provisions it was very soothing. The Victoria Sponge which I had to share with my wife, as the very helpful waitress had kept her promise of two forks was both light and tasty. I just wish I had the space to consume more of the very reasonable cakes on offer.

Whenever my husband & I visit the Marina we always go to The Cherry Tree for a treat. On our last visit we ordered our usual (delicious) cappuccinos and the last slice of Lemon Drizzle cake. WOW it was fantastic, moist and tangy and definitely the best we've tasted. There is a cosy atmosphere and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Thank you. Jenny & Eddy.

Just off the plane from Aus. Had a wonderful egg breakfast and Aussy style flat white coffee. Perfect.

Went in for a cup of coffee with my friend and her daughter on Saturday afternoon. We ordered 2 coffees and a piece of Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle. Started eating the lemon drizzle and found it to be very crumbly and in my opinion a bit dry, my friend also tasted it and agreed with me. I decided to tell one of the waitresses what my thoughts were. She took the cake to the back and a lady appeared (which I then found out is the owner) a few moments later. Instead of apologising nicely that I didn't like it, she proceeded to tell me that it wasn't dry and that she makes and eats them and was surprised that I did. She then told me that it was vegan and gluten free and that may be the reason it has a different texture.

We sat outside on a sunny day here. We were served quickly by friendly staff. We chose hot chocolate with cream & a coffee for hubby. We also had the fruit loaf each & found it moist, tasty & lovely. Prices are good & the tasty treats are varied. They have a delicious menu on offer & the café is nice & clean.

Went in for coffee and cake with friends. Carrot cake wasn't baked properly, had no flavour. Asked for a refund and they refused, they said everyone raved about the cake. Wouldn't visit again. Pretentious staff. Would rather of tried to get a coffee from mac Donald's or something. Coffee was good but vastly let down by everything else. No point in supporting small independent businesses if they treat you like this.

I visited this cafe and ordered coffee and carrot cake for my boyfriend and I. The coffee was good but the carrot cake was awful. Usually I won’t say anything but I just couldn’t eat it. Tasteless and stodgy I decided to ask for a refund. The manager came to the till and said ‘I’m not going to give you a refund as I usually have great reviews about this carrot cake’. Ok....not sure what the logic is there, as I only had two bites from it. I know it can be hurtful/upsetting when you’ve made something and someone doesn’t like/praise it but I’m a paying customer not a buddy.

Stopped by for a bite to eat with a friend. Nicely decorated & clean just wish we had received service with a smile. My friend ordered the eggs florentine which was severely lacking in hollandaise sauce. So much so that we thought it had been forgotten so when we asked a member of staff we were told that it was on the plate. No one bothered to check or even offer to get some extra sauce. We weren't the only customers unhappy with the food. Upon leaving there was another couple complaining about the food. Would I go back again? Yes I would to give it one more chance.............watch this space

Monday lunchtime and it wasn't very busy. We had tea and cake. The tea was strong and hot, the cake was a Victoria sponge, it was fresh and tasty. Also it was a big piece of cake. The staff were friendly and polite.

Having order a scone and sausage roll the scone tasted like raw dough and the sausage roll was hot on the outside and cold in the middle ! Walked out what a disaster

We stopped here for a snack and coffee on Bank Holiday Monday. The attraction was the seating area outside on a lovely sunny day. The service was quick and staff friendly.

We ate Breakfast here on out last morning in Brighton Marina and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the Cheery Tree Breakfast and all of the ingredients were very well cooked, real mushrooms and baked tomato made a real difference.

After trying to find just a coffe shop at Brighton marina came across the Cherry Tree.

My friend and I chose this place based on the ample outdoor seating in the sunshine and the range of breakfast choices. We both had the full English breakfasts (one vegetarian) and I had a freshly made orange juice. The staff were really friendly and it was a decent price - same as you'd pay in a chain, but food was better!

My sister and I had breakfast following a one night stay at the Malmaison. Plenty of choice and pleasant staff, good value. Lovely spot to sit outside if the suns shining.

Went here for lunch after arriving on the marina for a long weekend. Very nice menu choice, we both had toasted sandwiches which were simple and freshly made, just right for what we needed. Very friendly staff.

Visited for a light lunch. Three of us had bacon, brie and cranberry toasties, and I had dippy eggs with soldiers. We all really enjoyed it, the eggs were lovely with bright yellow yolks and cooked just right. The chap taking the order seemed as if he was new and still learning, but we got everything we ordered so no complaints. Dog friendly, which is a big plus for us.

Went here twice and on both occasions felt welcomed. Had a nice breakfast here with good quality food, and particularly liked the café latte. I also had one of their hot chocolates which I think must have been made with real cocoa because it wasn't too sweet, as some hot chocs are.

Initial impression of staff not welcoming. Ordered Mocha coffee plus cold drink. Mocha coffee poor quality and soft drink expensive. The Mocha coffee was replaced but not until I had been grilled why I thought the drink was not up to standard. I would not go back again to this cafe primarilly due to the customer service attitude.

Nice coffee shop here, the place is clean, prices not bad and drinks are very good, having said that the Hot Chocolate could do with being a bit hotter, more like Warm Chocolate but very tasty chocolate used. They also run a loyalty card, buy 6 hot drinks and get your next 1 free.

We popped into this lovely quaint cafe on a cold Jan morning and had a delicious breakfast. There was lots to choose from but we went for the good old bacon butty and coffee and it was lovely. I would highly recommend this cafe for breakfast!

We came here for breakfast and chose it because they let us bring our dog in. The service was friendly and prompt. The eggs benedict delicious and were able to cater for gluten free. The coffee was strong and hot. I would recommend this cafe.

I came here with my husband for breakfast and was very disappointed. Firstly the ketchup bottle was full to the top but obviously an old bottle so had been refilled numerous times. The butter which is usually served on the side of the toast was already spread and it was off, it was actually like cheese it was vile. Service was poor, it felt like it was a Monday morning and no one wanted to be there. Standards have slipped which is a shame, we won't be back.

We had excllent leek nd potato soup for lunch. This was served with cheesy garlic toast which we really enjoyed. Good food and good value.

Visited today while waiting to see santa with my children. The children got cold drinks so can't comment on them. But myself and my sister in law both ordered a hot chocolate to help warm us up while waiting outside. Although it seemed like it ages for the drinks to be made, I can say hand on heart it was one of the best I have ever had. It was thick, creamy and chocolatey without being to sickly sweet. Would go back just for that. I can't comment on the food but from what I saw with other customer orders it looks good.

One of the best place down the marina! Offering healthy optons aswell which isn't usual. Visited on many occasions - my personal fave avocado & poached eggs and of course a slice of the banana bread! Customer service is excellent, always a friendly atmosphere.

Came to this lovely little cafe on Saturday with my boyfriend, all of the cakes looked delicious but we decided to have scones and a coffee. The coffee was great and the scones were cooked perfectly, the best I've tasted for a long time and was good value for money. The staff were attentive and friendly which created a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again!

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and decided on a bowl of potato and leak soup and a full English breakfast. Both meals were delicious and excellent value for money I thought. We would recommend to anyone as you are receiving wonderful homemade food and cakes. Nice attentive staff and a lovely, very clean cafe overall. Also the cafe dog is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Ordered French onion soup and got what tasted like potato and honey. It was yellow? The latte was like a weird foamy thing more like a cappuccino.. The portabello mushrooms and tomato on toast turned up and was actually button mushrooms, still charged the same but not told nor refunded for the mistake, just taking the mickey. Made worse because it was covered in balsamic glaze like a frankie and bennys salad..Apparently the hollandaise tasted packaged, and the muffin was soggy..all in all below average.
