Came for Mothers Day as it’s local to mum. Lovely 3 course meal in a comfortable setting, served by helpful and friendly Maisey. Thank you!

Having been told the restaurant was fully booked for Mothers Day, I was expecting a bit of a wait as you would anywhere on a special occasion. So I was very pleasantly surprised with the amazing service we had from Lana, with great food and a lovely atmosphere.

Spent yesterday evening (Valentine’s Evening) at the Chequers. The service and the meal was excellent. Served by Abbie.

Service was very slow. Waited an hour and a half for food, which unfortunately every meal bar one arrived cold. The waitress was very friendly and apologised for the wait. The taste and flavour of the penang curry was incredible it was just a shame it was cold.

We had a lovely evening on Saturday at The Chequers, served by Maisey who was so lovely and went above and beyond for us. We asked for some special requests that she delivered perfectly and were really grateful. Always loving coming to the Chequers, food is always amazing.

The bar lady Karen poured an absolute dream of the black gold. Her service was fast and she was very chatty and welcoming on a cold Wednesday night. Just finished planting some down the driving range at the local golf club and nothing better than sinking a smooth pint of Guinness to put the day to bed. Nobby’s Nuts were delicious and were even better when washed down by the fresh Irish charm. 🥜 🇮🇪 ☘️ Yet again Karen gave us accommodating service and she deserves the applause. I will definitely return. 👍

After always having amazing things to say about the pub, and after many visits previously in various seasons, this evening was unfortunately a disappointment. We hope this is only temporary! Having staff shortages clearly did not help, and after having to make it apparent that the food was cold, it was brought back out to parts still cold :( I did address this in the most quiet and polite manner to a member of the team as I’m also in the industry myself. However, I feel the biggest let down was when we went to pay the bill. I’m part of another team for another chain, and although I was very polite, a female member asked who I worked for and when I stated who she replied “that’s not good”! This was highly unprofessional from her part, and clearly on the defensive. She was not aware where the venue I work for is exactly, nor my role as I had not stated! ( first error your team member made, and maybe needs to be more careful what she is saying and to who ) Considering I did not approach them once ranting, which we have all sadly experienced in the hospitality industry I feel she stood out the most due to her negative behaviour. 5* for the rest of the team who were trying their upmost, and were very polite. Fab effort :)

Jack W lives up to his name. It felt like such a win being served by him. I will definitely come back for the wonderful service. The food wasn't half bad either.

Lovely atmosphere with wood burning fires giving a really cosy vibe, service was incredible and the food was lovely. Especially enjoyed the cocktail choices and great range of low and no alcohol.

Everything today as great as always. Food ‘spot on’ as always. Team always lovely and helpful and are aware of my serious allergies. They are not ‘intolerances’… the allergens can send me into anaphylaxis. Been using this pub for 33 years… the current team members fit well together. Keep at it!

We came for lunch. We stayed for 5 hours without being asked to go, which was great as we were friends catching up. The staff members were very helpful. My main meal of fishcakes was just OK. All other dishes were very good including the curry, crumble, apple pie and banoffee pie.

I've visited this place multiple times, and unfortunately, there seems to be a recurring issue with one of the chefs consistently overcooking the dishes. Our recent orders of the signature burger and fish and chips were both affected, as they turned out to be overcooked. The burgers were disappointingly dry and chewy, while the fish and chips suffered from a lack of moisture, with the inside being excessively dry. Surprisingly, the overcooked chips turned out to be extra crispy and crunchy, which was acceptable, although not ideal. Initially, we thought it might be a one-time occurrence, but our subsequent visit revealed the same problem persisting. This is a departure from the quality we've experienced in the past. It's disheartening to see that everything now appears to be consistently overcooked. The chef really needs to pay serious attention to the preparation of the dishes. It's a shame because the pub boasts a wonderful staff and a friendly atmosphere. I hope they address this cooking issue to maintain the overall appeal of the establishment.

we had a very pleasant evening at the chequers, our waiter called Jake was very friendly and informative regarding the menu, the food as always was lovely and the service was very good, we would definitely recommend .

I have been to many vintage inns all across the country from Newcastle down to Stevenage and never had a problem. I usually enjoy the food and the service which is why I have returned time and again. I probably have eaten in this one about 10 times over the last year. This time upon reaching the restaurant I could not book online. The app kept telling me to retry so we chose to sit in the bar. This wasn't a problem. I went to order the food and usually with the kids meal I swap the veg sticks for peas as my son doesn't like the veg sticks. I feel its a waste of food to take the veg sticks that end up in the bin. Before I even finished my sentence about that the server, Rachel/Rachael(dark straight hair, short, wearing a baggy shirt), butted in and said "if you want anything extra you have to pay for it". I said "OK, I will leave it and just get the veg sticks" as I didn't fancy paying whatever they charge for a little pot of peas that may or may not be eaten. However, I thought it was a rude way to broach this. When I was charged it seemed like more than I estimated it to be so I requested an itemised receipt. I saw that the free drink received with the kids meal was charged so I went to query this. I was told that the kids meal is a deal and as I used a £10 off coupon it couldn't be used in conjunction with another deal. I wasn't aware the kids meal was a deal, but I was fine with it and went to return to my table. I then heard Rachel laughing with her colleague as soon as I turned by back and walked away. Clearly with regards to this. Due to this I asked to cancel my meal and told her why. I wasn't bothered about the deal, it was being laughed at when I am spending my money there. She immediately screwed up her face and said "I wasn't actually. Why would I?" Very defensive and immediately looked guilty. I said "I don't know. Because you're sad?" She said "well you're just rude" I said "laughing at a customer is rude thanks and I have visited here many times. I will not be returning" she said "be my guest" I said "well ... no ... I won't be your guest... Will I?I wont be coming back" She said "no be my guest and dont come back". I said "that still makes no sense" I laughed to myself and said "I'm rude when you laughed at me" she said "you're rude too" I said "so you admit you were rude thankyou". Upon leaving I realised she had charged me instead of refunding me. She charged me £90.35. This means £127.50 was taken from my account needing to be returned. I have plenty of funds so its not a problem, but had it been a problem, it takes 5 days to clear back in. I had to then go back and get that refunded on top of my original order, which took a while due to how their computer system works. The man who helped me with this was very helpful and I felt bad for him having to sort out her mistake. So I thank him for his help. Due to the bad service from this person, Rachel, and the complete mess she made with the refund, i wont be returning. In fact, I don't think I will go to any vintage inns anymore.

It's a nice pub, obviously a chain. The staff are pleasant enough, although there did not seem to be enough. They were doing a widely advertised 50% off your food promotion, so we thought we'd give it a go. There was so much missing from the menu that it was embarrassing for the waitress. No chefs special starter, no sirloin steak, no pie and to top it all off my wife got the last portion of potato. We ordered our second choice food, mine a burger my wife fish cakes. They were only just adequate, I got nine chips with mine and my wifes was half a plate, with 2 dry fish cakes. Everything was obviously pre-made, and the fish cakes were clearly microwaved. Then we ordered desserts, creme brulee and Eton Mess. Not surprisingly neither were available, so we cut our losses and left. A very disappointing evening!

Sadly took family visiting from abroad wanted English pub setting and food. The menu when ordering was limited - no chicken, eggs, new potatoes. So mainly fish ordered. One fish meal was very dry with very little fish in batter. This was my elderly mums who didn’t want to complain. Limited chips on plates this was probably due to lack of potatoes. Sadly didn’t live up to usual expectations. Limited menu could have been mentioned when table booked as probably would have gone elsewhere.

Staff were accommodating and friendly. Food was delicious. However the area in which we sat was very cold. Many other customers commented the same.

Service and food was great! Emma and Jake really looked after as well and made sure our drinks and food were perfect. Thank you guys, we will be coming back

When we finally got our food mine was inedible and had to be sent back, but by the time someone had dealt with it my partner had finished his food so we left for a piece of toast at home.

We preordered 3 courses for a table of 12. It took 3 hours from the time we sat down til when our dessert arrived. The rest of the pub wasn’t busy and there were no apologies or reasons for the delays. Food was nice, but definitely not worth the wait.

Not the usual good service but I think the staff were getting ready for the NYE dinner. Supposed to offer Tanqueray 0 but more often than not out of stock which is disappointing when I am designated driver. Meal was usual very good standard except for the ribeye steak which was very tough and fibrous sadly. Always our favourite place for Sunday lunch :)

What a shambles. We had a booking for 12.00 when we arrived at 3 minutes to 12 they had not opened the door. When i knocked, i got a very rude response when they came to the door. They asked for our order in advance, so I did this in writing and delivered it by had a week before. But they still managed to get the order wrong and charged us extra for the privilege. The wine glasses were so dirty and smelly i had to ask for replacements. The food that we received did in no way match the description on the menu. Ie scallops and prawns on a bed of spring onions and mash potatoes. What we got was a pie. We ordered sirloin and were given ribeye, which they charge us £4.00 extra for. Not a pub i will recommend to anyone.

Lovely Christmas Day meal. Table of 5 people, food arrived at the same time, was hot and very tasty. The duck was excellent. Really enjoyed our Christmas meal, thank you all at the chequers for your hard work :)

Excellent Christmas meal. Food was brilliant, beer was good and the staff friendly and polite. Place could do with a new carpet and lick of paint here and there, but I must say the chequers is highly recommended by me.

Went for a Christmas lunch priced at £74.95. What we got was similar to that from a £15 carvery service elsewhere. Service was extremely poor, food (starter and dessert) dry bread or like warm food! Main meal was ok. Nothing thrilling. Just ok. The place had Zero atmosphere and no music or happy vibe throughout. To top this off the body odour from three staff members was shocking. The landlord leads by example with his poor dress style and miserable manner. Deeply dissatisfied. Even the Christmas crackers (the only Xmas vibe at the table) were super sub standard. Maybe they were seconds from a pound store. All in all. Bah Humbug!

Came here after having a bad experience at another pub in the area earlier in the day. It was a cold day and we asked if the fire could be lit and they couldn’t be more helpful or welcoming. The steak pie was delicious, atmosphere vibrant and friendly.

Went there for a family Christmas meal as we have done in previous years with no problems. What a let down. We had booked and paid deposits for the festive menu. I checked whether we had to pre order our choices and was told no. When we arrived we were informed that some items were unavailable which we were surprised at. Then when we were placing our order we were told that there was no more turkey!!! It wasn’t even very busy in there so how on earth can they run out of turkey when offering a festive menu? We all chose other things and when the food arrived it was another big disappointment. The vegetables in particular were dreadful. We will not be returning and that is such a shame as it used to be so good. Would like to add that the staff were very good and our waitress in particular was very helpful. We actually felt sorry for her as none of it was her fault.

We went for a works Christmas lunch, we were booked in for 1pm and the food started to come out at just after 2, the waitress was quite abrasive and impatient. The food was really good though. I think they'd be much better with smaller groups, but works needed for large ones.

Our favourite local place to celebrate special occasions and today it was our wedding anniversary.

It’s so disappointing to see standards slip at this pub. This used to be a superb and regular meeting point for me and some friends but we have been let down on the last two visits. First impressions were not good. We assumed we had booked the Christmas menu but apparently we didn’t. The main menu didn’t have 4 of the available options. When our drinks arrived my tea came without a teapot lid. Yes really. I had to ask for one. Food arrived and the portion sizes were probably enough for a child. Had to ask for cutlery. We did complain on this occasion and got 2 meals refunded without fuss which was appreciated but extremely disappointing once again. I just don’t understand what has gone wrong.

I ordered the steak and ale pie. When it arrived I asked the waiter for more gravy...this never arrived. Half of the meat in the pie was inedible could not even put a fork in it. The veg consisting of broccoli and a few slices...

The waiting staff were absolutely brilliant. They acknowledged us as soon as we arrived and were very attentive and cheerful The food was very good - perfectly cooked and presented The only downside was that it was quite cold, so we kept our coats on for a lot of the time. I know it was below zero last night, and heating costs are high, but the radiators were not very hot.

Food was lovely and hot, staff friendly and professional. Would highly recommend a visit. We have booked xmas day and new years eve.

Cozy pub in Bragbury end, staff is friendly and they have a great menu. We were attended by Jake, which gave us excellent service and have a good laugh.

Came in on my day off, spoke with the barman Jake, very helpful and knowledge so he helped me pick my meal and drink. I would recommending coming here especially if you need help choosing something. Everything I had was great and I was well cared for. Great Pub in general!

We visited the Chequers for dinner last week and it did not disappoint. Great food and service from the team (Jake and April especially). Lovely and cosy with the fires too.

Our service from Jake was excellent as always. Delicious meal, lovely atmosphere, very relaxing. Chocolate brownie was wonderful.

Came here for dinner with friends. Had a Trio Roast which was really nice. Definitely would recommend the Trio. The dessert, Honey Pot, was so devine. We will definitely eat that again!! The young man behind the bar, Jake, served us. A polite, cheerful &...

Came here on a busy day with quite a large group of people for a meal and some drinks. Our server was extremely patient with us and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. I work in the service industry myself so I know sometimes on busy days the quality in food can drop and that it might take a while to come out but everything looked and tasted wonderful and came to our table in very good time. Can't recommend this place enough, lovely staff, lovely food and just a great place to come for a drink or two. Will definitely come back soon.

Only popped in to have pint on the way home ended up staying for a few great atmosphere of the place felt very welcome by the bar staff didn’t order any food this time just a few drinks , was served by a guy with long hair , think his name was Jake if I can remember correctly, brilliant service very friendly had a good laugh with him , definitely coming again

Whilst not a frequent visitor to the Chequers, when we do visit, we aren't disappointed. Food and service are always excellent. Great choice of menu options and always busy with friendly guests. For the cold nights, the open fire is always welcoming. Definitely a recommended place to visit from me!

Visited 2022: a very pretty pub and lovely interior, it’s a cosy pub. I also ate here once and think the food was okay too- I don’t remember it but it wasn’t bad, average pub food. I wasn’t disabled when I visited so can’t remember if it was accessible or not

We chose the Checquers as a venue for lunch as it is about half way between where I live in NW London to the other guest who is in Bedfordshire. It turned out to be a very good choice. A great location for us, easy to find pleanty of parking, LOVELY staff , good food and the building has oodles of character .....we will be back.

Updated 12/11/2023 Went for a meal for an early birthday get together tonight. Unfortunately service was shocking, couldn't order on the app as table number wasn't on any of the tables. Waved at staff for over 5 mins who were more interested in their phones, ended up with one of our party going to the serving station to ask to be served. We didn't leave a tip to reflect this service which is a first for us. Such a shame. I'm just glad the food was tasty. Update - 03/07/23 Had a meal with friends last night. Food was extremely tasty but the service wasn't as good as it normally is. Hope next time we visit they will be on the ball a bit more. Had a great meal here with family. Cater really well for kids too. Great atmosphere topped with great quality food.

The staff made us feel very welcome from when we walked through the doors. The dinners was really love, however, my daughter ordered the Eaton Mess and we were hugely disappointed that there were hardly any meringue in it and also no fruit what soever. She was really looking forward to it as I had it in a different restaurant and she said she will order that next time we go out. The waiter was kind enough to remove it from our bill but I thought that you should either remove it from your menu or up your game for the Eaton Mess and include more meringue and fruit and cut down on the amount of cream used.
