Chennai Dosa Artisanz in Woking

A decent place to have Indian food. Tough competition to all South Indian restaurants in UK. Highly recommend their dosas, idly’s and chole Bhatture. Decent chutneys with their dishes. Would advise them to have add ons for extras in their combo meals which can help people mix and match. (E.g. extra Bhatture if someone orders Chole Bhatture; instead of asking the customer to order the same plate again - it’s a common practise everywhere)

Unfortunately I need to update my earlier 5 star review. Every single time that I have been to the restaurant in recent times I've had to wait 45 -60 mins for basic food! Honestly how can it take 40 mins to make a dosa??!! The second time made the serious error of ordering other items (non dosa) and made to wait easily over 1 hour. I should have learnt that if dosa (which is prepared batter with filling) can take over 30 mins then other food would take hours for sure. Unfortunately this isn't right and will be avoiding from now on.

“*ROTTEN RESTAURANT , ROTTEN FOOD”* The worst restaurant - in London Woking and all around the world (and I've been in a lot of cities). Extortionate prices for frozen and bad food. An embarrassment to London. It should be closed.

We arrived for an anniversary meal with my partner. When we arrived we where the only ones at the restaurant and now we know why. We waited an HOUR to be served (reminder only ones there) and after that we left. We tried to gesture to the staff multiple times but no luck. After an hour a family came in and got served straight away so we left. What a waste of time. Avoid at all cost!!!!

Food is very salty, Ordered Ravva dosa and kotthu both are very salty. Please go low on salt..

Food is good but the service is appalling. I had to ask for a menu, ask to order and while taking the order the waiter decided that he wasn’t going to take it but someone else would. This caused a further delay in ordering.

Went last week. There was no heating. We were sitting there freezing. It took an hour for the dishes to arrive. North indian chef who does not know how to make south indian dishes, Briyani is yellow rice with meat, just like you get in Mumbai, that is not Briyani for crying out loud. Idli and Dosai are good though.

FOOD: A mixed experience. Some where really good and delicious, whereas some were below par. Chicken lollipop tasted delicious, although it was a bit too expensive for 3 piece portion. Fish Moiley was below par as I had much better dish from other Indian restaurants. SERVICE: Had a bad experience and for that reason, I would never go back to that restaurant. I will mention some simple service related issue initially:- got a filter coffee, separate sugar and stirrers were provided. However, there was no provision to keep the stirrer and sugar packet after using, I had to improvise and do something myself. Main issue happened when my friend was about to pay the bill. Out bill was for more than 50 pounds. Person at the till made my friend who uses walking stick to go out to the cash machine to get the money out, as they didn't want to use the card reader. I was with the impression that the card reader wasn't working and I did not carry my bank card ! I was not expecting we would end up paying the 50 + bill in cash, and had only 10 pounds for tips. However, sadly I realised after my friend paid the bills in cash, that their card machine was working fine and it was just a preference for them to collect the bill in cash. It was UTTERLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND INHUMANE to make someone with 2 walking sticks to walk out to collect cash, when they were perfectly able to collect the bill paid with the card reader. PARKING: I travelled around 45 minutes to get this place to meet my friend for dinner. They do not have any parking at the site and there are no road side parking around there. However, there is a parking garage within 5 to 8 minutes walk from the restaurant!

Very clean South Indian Eatery....Good quality food, very friendly and smiling staff, reasonable prices. Excellent Ambience with soft Indian Music. Home feeling :)

We absolutely loved Chennai Dosa - Artisanz. The Food is amazing and is the closest it has come to good Indian food. We’ve had the masala Dosa, Parrotas, Madurai Lamb Curry, and Sheesh Kebab. The buttermilk was better than what we’ve had in Mumbai. We will definitely be returning often.

My partner decided to treat us to an evening out here for dinner. Unfortunately despite us having wanted to try this restaurant for so long we left a bit dissapointed. The straight off the bat attitude from the waiter at our drinks preference of water was unnecessary and rude. Our starter was forgotten and when it did then get delivered with our mains was disappointing, we chose poppadoms which were not the nicest, very small and oily with only what I can describe as the most pathetic amount of Chutney to dip and no other accompaniments, considering we asked for 2 portions to share the portion size was left wanting. Onto the mains, I had been looking forward to trying something new so ordered something I'd not had before based off its menu description thought I'd enjoy the chicken kadai, after just one bite of the sauce and instant burning mouth what the menu failed to describe it is an incredibly spicy dish and my partner swapped his milder dish for mine. I appreciate that said dish was probably supposed to be spicy but spice levels could be better displayed on the menu, as for the other dishes while nice a curry dish with lamb mince and a chicken korma... Hard to tell if these too had a kick or if my mouth was still on fire from the first dish. The side dish of rice with all the mixed in bits was lovely, the naan was alright. Nothing great. In addition to the food the restaurant seemed to have freezing cold air blasting out and then plug in heaters that didn't really do anything situated around the restaurant. I had a cold vent blasting down my back and wasn't the only customer that kept their coat or jumper on. My final point is while visiting the ladies bathroom that also doubles as baby change and disabled toilet there is no red pull cord tied up or otherwise present at all so if you did get into bother or need assistance you'd just have to bank on someone noticing your missing or until someone else requires use if the bathroom that you can raise the alarm to if you have left your phone at the table!

Don't try pappucharu ( dal tadka) and Pepper chicken. They provide very less quantity for one gravy.

This restaurant is only for people who are looking to have a dosa, rest all items served are an absolute waste of your money.

Interior is nice with tamil songs playing. Would benefit from new menus as the ones on paper are little worn out. Food itself is decent, rasmulai, dosa, lassi and poori were good. However, staff disappear behind the bar at front very quickly, would be better if they were visible to customers more, so do not have unecessarily wait to make order as I had to walk to the bar to grab their attention. Also only told card machine not working at end of meal which is poor service. Need to be transparent early. I tried delivery too but food taste was not as good as dining in.

I had an amazing experience at this South Indian restaurant! The special dosa was a culinary delight—perfectly crisp with a delectable filling. Their Chana Bhatura is excellent. All of their food is actually really good. Dosas are fresh and crispy. Overall a great Indian that also opens for lunch. Definitely go there to eat since some of the dishes don't translate well when delivered.

I was stuffed with just a plain dosa and one podi masala dosa, which was roughly a total of £12.

Thought we’d have a change from our usual Indian. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, and the sad fact is, it wasn’t due to the food. We arrived on time for our booking, they were obviously busy, but a while before we were acknowledged. We didn’t mind waiting for our table, around 10 minutes, that was fine. After we sat down and given our menus, it was another 35 minutes before we even got a drink. When that came we were given a different bottle of wine than we requested, we weren’t informed of this, it was just plonked on the table, when I queried it, I was told they hadn’t got the one I wanted, to be told this earlier would be nice. So the food took a while too but that was ok, when it came it was delicious and hot, and reasonably priced. But seriously, the waiter must have been the most miserable waiter I have ever come across, no smiles, no conversation, no interaction whatsoever. In fact, everyone working there that night, looked as if they couldn’t be bothered. We won’t go back.

The best Indian I have had in the UK. It's very authentic I'm told by people who know much more about this than me. We absolutely filled 3 people for £65

I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Chennai Dosa Artisanz in Woking on the 30th of August, 2023, and it pains me to write this review about the arrogant restaurant manager and their overall lackluster service. First and foremost, the manager's /owners’ arrogance was palpable from the moment we walked in. It was evident that they believed themselves to be the king or queen of the restaurant, and their demeanor throughout our meal was nothing short of appalling. It's shocking how someone in the hospitality industry, where customer satisfaction should be paramount, could be so dismissive of constructive feedback. One of the most frustrating aspects of our visit was the restaurant's audacity to charge for extra chutney. I mean, seriously? Chutney is one of the most basic accompaniments in Indian cuisine, and it's typically offered generously at any decent Indian restaurant. However, Chennai Dosa Artisanz saw fit to nickel and dime their customers for something that should come as a courtesy. But the issues didn't stop there. While the manager was busy strutting around, they seemed to completely forget about the customers at their tables. My dining party and I had to resort to desperate measures just to get the waitstaff's attention. We had to repeatedly wave, raise our voices, and resort to exaggerated hand gestures just to order our food or request water refills. It's as if they were intentionally ignoring us. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was far from pleasant. The combination of an arrogant manager, the chutney charge, and the constant struggle for basic service left us feeling anything but satisfied. Dining out should be a pleasant experience, but Chennai Dosa Artisanz managed to turn what should have been a delightful meal into a frustrating and disappointing ordeal. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Chennai Dosa Artisanz in Woking based on my experience on the 30th of August, 2023. The arrogance of the restaurant manager, the unjustified chutney charge, and the neglectful service all contributed to a dining experience that was nothing short of unpleasant. Save yourself the frustration and seek out a more customer-friendly establishment for your Indian cuisine cravings.

Very enjoyable meal. We were taken there by friends while down visiting our grandchild. I'm not good with spicy food but the Dosa's were excellent. While they tasted nice and spicy I didn't have any after effects. We will definitely be going again.

My friend recommended we meet for lunch at this restaurant, and I'm so glad he did! The food was delicious, and while I found it a little pricey, it was definitely worth it!

Once again A dinner with my daughter and her friends. Food was good with helpful advice. We enjoyed the Melagu Rasum and the Masala Dosa. Price of the wine bottle wasn't ridiculous as it often is these days. The menu choice is comprehensive incluidng for veggies. The overall cost was reasonable for enjoyable authentic food. This is my favourite place. When ever I come to London always like to have dinner or lunch here. Thanks Goa. India

I was really glad to visit this place again. For this time, the food was a bit disappointing. Moreover, the service was slow and it was acceptable that there were only 2 staff. Red flags for samosa, and chick pea masala in Channa Bhatura.

HORRENDOUS food. Worst Indian restaurant we've ever eaten from. Food was soggy, flavourless and disgusting. Had to throw most of it away, then it stunk up the bin for days. Vomit inducing flavours. Massively overpriced for tiny portions. "Serves 2" here means serves less than 1. ATROCIOUS customer service. Rude staff, ignored us If they tell you it will take 20 minutes, it will probably take 1 hour.

Great restaurant to dine in if you are after authentic South Indian food. Good ambience and good reception by the front end team. Only thing that could have been better is the spacing between the seats that were bit cramped. Would have been great if that can be taken care. Also do make sure reserve a table as we went without it but the team were kind enough to accommodated us.

Taste is good. Servants are kind and attentive. Proper south Indian food available here. Bit costlier. But worth for what they serve.

It is an authentic dosa or Indian crispy crepe place, a few minutes walk from Woking railway station. Here you will get dosas, vadais, idly and its likes. The sambar and chutney served with dosa is top notch with all the flavours and spices being spot on. They also have other chicken and lamb dishes from Tamil Nadu and Kerala which can send your taste buds tickling. The atmosphere is generally fine, except for the fact that some customers tend to be loud and noisy. The other day I had a mother putting a mobile phone on speaker for her son, which was very annoying for others. Nevertheless its a perfect place for a South Indian man at all times of the day. Besides its not often that you can have dosa with beer or wine for that matter.

Mouthwatering experience. Treat to tastebuds. Must visit for vegetarian food. Ordered Veg Hot and Sour soup, Chole Bhature and Masala Dhosa. Everything was delicious. Specially in winter, Hot & Sour soup and Sambhar gave an extra kick. Definitely visiting again.

The service is so slow and awful. I've visited this place many times but have always been disappointed by the service and behaviour of the staff. This time the waiter who served us, had food touching his shirt while bringing it to our table and his nails were so dirty that I almost puked when he was serving. It was off peak hours (literally two tables were occupied) and still they took 90 mins to serve us. I never complained earlier as I always found the food to be tasty. However, on this visit, I noticed that the quality of the food has also declined. It wasn't worth the amount they charge. The manager was throwing cutlery while arranging them and the place so loud. They really need to train their staff, hire more people, improve from hygiene point of you and change the manager maybe. Never going back again!

Food 10/10 but the service absolutely terrible the manager doesn’t not care. Literally you have to get up from your table in order to get drinks or other. I would only recommend this place for their food because that’s the only thing. Forget about service sorry my reviews are genuine.

Woking. The rice smelled like it was re used. Reminded me of when restaurant were collecting from customers tables and re using. The portion was tiny and there was not much to it. Lacked vegetables. I questioned the waiter, 'rice mixed potatoes ' When I received the bill it seemed as it was more than what I calculated. I looked at the waiter and said seems more than what the menu price states. He just smiled. I paid as maybe I mis -calculated. Got home. Next day looked at the receipt, I was charged a discretionary service charge of £1.14. I am not pleased. We should decide and not the restaurant. My concern, many would have not bothered to look at their receipts and would have left the restaurant a tip I did not see any obvious mention before I ordered about this. I only give tips if the meal was delicious & good service. On arrival, the waiter kept trying to usher me towards the window. Typical of me to do the opposite. I wanted a seat where it would be cooler. I won't be used to advertise their business by sitting by the window I am now seeking an email address to retrieve back my additional cost. I don't believe in phoning. Prefer everything on writing

Had ghee dosa, mutton kothporotta, sambar vada, saffron kulfi, filter coffee, and masala chai. Except for kothporotta, everything was exceptionally good. The restaurant's ambience is so good, especially music. Will highly recommend for south indian food.

Delicious food, homely atmosphere and most importantly very friendly staff. 5 mins walk from the Woking Station and must go if you are looking to have good Indian food especially South Indian. Be aware that due to its popularity, its usually quite full and that you might need to wait for your order if going with a big group.

I'm usually not a big fan of Indian food, but the food here was absolutely delicious!

One of the best Tamil restaurants in the Uk

The food is very tasty especially the South Indian dishes were really delicious. Ambience is very good. I found Mr. Venkat, the staff member treats the customer in a gentle manner. His hospitality towards us found really very friendly, polite, and his service made us to visit this restaurant frequently.

Very promising looking menu but actually two of the things I wanted were not available which is disappointing. Also very slow service, and when the king fish curry arrived it was 90% sauce

Fabulous food and great service. Staff were very helpful and there is a huge range of amazing sounding dishes. We had to try a dosa on the side and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend the cauliflower starter and falooda dessert as well!

I was amazed. Sumptuous food and visually stunning, accompanied by fast and friendly service, makes this the best dining experience I’ve had in years. I loved it so much that I am going to take my kids there for those amazing Dosa’s today.

We ordered 3 mutton kothu, did not even tasty nice at all, was very mushy, no flavourings and no spices, barely any mutton in it and the very tiny mutton they put did not even taste like mutton! Appalling!! Was very pricy for the quantity. We came with lots of trust to have great home food and its broken! Never going back to this store again and I do not recommend anyone to go there!

I have been to this restaurant multiple times over the last few years and it has always been a pleasure! The taste is authenticity at its best and the service leaves a smile on our faces. Looking forward to more visits in the future.

Absolutely stunning food; a real treasure, and one that I should have sought out much sooner. It's obvious that the kitchen takes great pride in every dish on the menu, because everything you pick is always delicious. That's really hard to do; that takes a lot of effort and care. Artisanz is a class act, highly recommended.

Whenever I want to have some nice asian food I always go for Chennai Dosa. The food and atmosphere is great here. Staff is very friendly and I always have a very great experience here. Specifically their puri masala and haleem is out of the world.

Food here is exceptional, really not sure why it doesn't have better reviews! Mutton fry and kadai were delicious, spicy here means proper spicy so be warned!

Honestly the BEST Indian restaurant for counties. We lived above it eight years ago, and now drive over an hour to come here. Amazing service, amazing food - you won’t recognise anything on the menu but don’t let that put you off because it’s all delicious. Be warned, it will spoil all other Indian restaurants for you.

As my birthday dinner, the restaurant is able to provide the cuisines that we had a wonderful time here. As my pictures show, they are so attractive and delicious and the service is amazing. Highly recommended!

When the rail air bus stopped at Woking railway station, something struck me about not missing Dosa for dinner today. I had 2 dosas for £15 with egg and omelet filling. It was worth the hype. The dosa was crispy and thin. Proper Chennai style if you are a Chennaiite. If you live/stay in Guildford then you mustn't miss this place for a filling Tamil Nadu-style meal. Less than hour hour from Guildford. Very nearby the Woking railway station.

True Indian flavour...fantastic food...despite living in London, have visited 6 times

the food is great and the staff is great. the only problem is that you may wait long between starter and main food if you don't inform them early enough the you want both back to back. other than that. I am really happy that they reopened and still in the community.

We have been frequenting this place in the last couple of years. This is definitely the best restaurant that serves proper authentic south Indian cuisine in like a 5 mile radius. We have even had the biggest dosa we’ve ever had which is called the family dosa and it really serves a family of 4. Apart from dosa, We’ve had almost all vegetarian dishes in the menu like The medu vada, sambar vada, starter platter, biriyani, vada curry, samosa chat, dahi vada, vada curry, poori masal, channa batura, idli, podi idli, fried idli, chappathi, pongal, pineapple kesari, gulab jamun and honestly and we could not even find a fault with one dish and every dish has been amazing, like I would rate them all at least 9 out of 10 with many being 10 on 10. I wish they would add some items to their menu as well like Adai, paniyaram, aappam, etc., Both of my kids enjoying eating out herr. The staff are very kind and polite and we have even become friends with them as we have been visiting quite often. The nearest parking is in new victoria theatre parking. There are different zones like Red, yellow and blue and I think the red zone is the closest to walk to chennai dosa. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Worst experience! Rating - 0/10 or I would have number in negative. I doubt they really care about the customers. It’s tooooooo pricy for worthless food. Ordered chicken Briyani and the quantity is very very less for that price. I would be happy even if the quality was nice but sorry to say it’s worst. Chicken korma - please change the name as sweet Paayasam, too much sugar. I should have ignored this shop when I was told that Rasam rice was 7 pounds, I don’t know where on earth they will price like this. Even the proper branded hotels would not price like that. Kind advice: please respect the customers and provide quality food and rethink about the pricing. Your food is not worth the price you have. I will never comeback there even if I am dying in hunger!

The food was decent, although there were some strange deviations from the norm (the chicken korma being quite spicy for example). The service was disappointing and the waiters lacked training. We were a group in a mostly empty restaurant. The orders took a long time to be taken and served, the appetisers and the mains arrived together and the empty plates were not taken away for a long time after. The prices were quite high for the quality of the food. The atmosphere was also a bit bland. I wouldn't return.

Very slow service every time you want something you have to either go up or try and flag a waiter down they do not come and check on you to see if you are ready to place an order. Food was good though and the portion sizes were very good too.

It is my second visit and i am disappointed... the service is fine but the the portion is small , drinks and the food as well. curry are salty, lamb chop and chicken are dry.

Travelled one hour to have dosa and found out that the store is permanently closed. Super disappointed. Owner should update the information on Google at least.
