Food and service great but could do with being updated

Very charming and friendly people. Customers and personal.

With its less than appealing decor, the food speaks volumes. I can honestly say this is the best meal I’ve had for a while. Although we only opted for a Sunday lunch, presentation & taste was amazing. I will be back here very soon. A lick of paint and a wee freshen up, this place would appeal to more. Food is top class Well done chef!

Great place with wonderful staff and gorgeous food/drinks

We recently visited larne and called in here for food, really nice little place in the town centre. Couldn’t get over the prices of the food, so cheap and reasonably priced especially when the food is such good quality. My dad got a burger, mum, the turkey ham, partner roast beef and myself the fish. All really good portion sizes and really tasty. We will definitely be back. The staff were really friendly too :)

The service was was excellent and so were the drinks. The chicken snitchzel that I ordered was fresh and cooked to order. My only criticism would be using fish batter for breaded fish on chicken. That was definitely a first for me, because I thought chicken snitchzel was coated in breadcrumbs. However, apart from my meal my friend enjoyed the burger.

Really great food here, my partner had the Fish and Chips and I had a Goats Cheese and Beetroot Salad. Both were delicious and really good value for money. Great place, friendly people and very good value for money. I would certainly recommend.

I've only been living here a few months, but Chekkers is now my local weekend haunt, great staff ! Lager is lovely. I've tried every brand, and I never had a bad one! Enjoy an odd cocktail now & again, I've not tried the food yet, but the restaurant area is always busy, I'll try it for myself soon, always smells great! They also have great DJs & bands too! x

The food here is very good and not expensive with different offers each day, and the staff are friendly and helpful and the drink is not expensive either.

Regular in this hostelry, best Guinness in the larne! (I should know 😜) good to see the menu is being updated with specials available every day now from soup/toasties, fish and chicken meals as well. And the main menu does different choices as well. Give it a go and mention the guru sent you, the staff will know what you mean! 😂

current proprietor Vincent, a delightful man who is looking after his guests very well. the food is delicious and we have come a few times. HOWEVER........ we had such an unpleasant experience with another guest(who said that he was the owner ( Tony) who was the rudest and most foul-mouthed person, who basically said we never are allowed to return. the reason for him was , because we had asked if his partner could hold a cigarette outside to the other side of us whilst we are lunching. she was very polite and did . he however , was NOT....shame , i won't come again !

Met here after the larne half marathon, lovely spot with beautiful food. We had the salt and chilli chicken and it was fantastic.

Good local bar with great staff, always guaranteed a laugh. Restaurant is fantastic, caters for all and very reasonably priced for the quality of food provided. A massive selection of spirits and draught beer available too.

Delicious food and fantastic service!! Loved the seafood chowder and fish n chips, but the best bit was the homemade chocolate orange cheesecake 🤩 staff were SUPER friendly. If we weren’t knackered from our bike ride, we would have loved to have chatted to them more over a drink at the bar. Would definitely recommend!

Place is filthy and food dire,staff are lovely pity the rest let’s it down.meat on Sunday roast was very small portion and frozen microwaved meat,Yorkshire pudding was flat like pancake and grey/greenish in colour something Iv never seen before,our granddaughter whose 8 would t even eat it,nothing is as described on the menu and comes with half of it missing.

Visited the wine bar a few time, food is absolutely outstanding, and the Staff are very friendly and helpful, looks great after the refurbishment, definitely by far the best restaurant/ Bar in larne. Highly recommended! Xx ❤

Decided at the last minute to pop in for food. Glad we did, certainly not disappointed. The waitress was straight over to take our drinks order & given menus. Simple burger for me & sausages & champ for hub. Absolutely lovely. Service 1st class. Very reasonable pricing. Yes as previously stated the decor needs updating but definitely clean. The ladies loo was spotless.

Had a meal there last night with four other friends, couldn't fault it. Meals beautiful and reasonably priced, service excellent thanks to our waiter Jack he was very attentive and pleasant. The desserts were beautifully presented would go back.

What a fantastic evening we had at Chekkers. Food was fantastic and the staff were brilliant. Our waiter was Jack and he was great, - so welcoming and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to another visit soon

Staff very nice and nice place for a quiet drink

Was in Checkers last Thursday afternoon for some grub, as its been a long time since back in Larne and had good memories of this place when I was younger and living there. NOW..OMG what has happened. I've seen better eat outs in Nigeria. Place is disgusting, Dark, dreary, tatty, grubby, smelly, and generally as run down as any hovel. OMG the Mens Lavatory is over running with dirt and urine, toilet seat is hanging off by both hinges. The smell of urine almost made me gag (thank god I went after the meal. The meal, o Jesus suffering. Just basically slop on a plate. Just horrible. Never again. Honestly cant fathom how this place is still operating. Needs completely gutted to the bare shell. Or just closed. How the hell this place get good reviews is beyond my comprehension. Place is an absolute embarrassment. For goodness sake sort it out people.

Checkers wine bar has got a great menu that everyone will enjoy not only that the service is 2nd to none! bar staff can't do enough for you and clearly the decor his been undated with the in colours of today. Well worth having a night out in and bar has an excellent range of draft and sprints. Kind regards to the staff will hope to return in the future.

Nous avons dîné hier soir dans ce restaurant, le seul ouvert de Larne. Bonne surprise, la viande est délicieuse, bien cuite, le panage est léger et la carte des vins judiciueuse. Le serveur était aux petits soins pour nous.

its been some time since we last ate in Checkers but it used to be ok. Our last visit we had to wait for the upstairs eating area to open so we decided to have a drink in the main bar. What a mistake. The decor was seriously tatty and apart from the several men around the bar, on the seat beside us there was a man running a gambling book. This was all off putting so we decided to finish our drink and move on. Before leaving I visited the gents. OMG, the stench almost made me throw up. I could not wait to get out and most certainly will never be in that pub again. It may have changed but I doubt it. Only way they can attack people like me from outside the Larne area is to do some promotional advertising and convince us it has greatly improved.

me and a couple of friends visited for new year’s eve and had the time of my life. i ordered a strawberry daiquiri and the bartender called Hannah gave me the best thing i ever tasted. i shall definitely visit again and would highly recommend to any other people visiting. TRY THE STRAWBERRY DAIQS!!

Excellent food and service. Went in for Christmas Dinner and had a Mushroom Wellington (Vegan Friendly). Also tried the veg curry and it was incredible. Thank you so much for the hospitality! Was a pleasant surprise to find a chef who could cater for our dietary requirements without having to sacrifice flavor. Highly recommended.

Good value homely cooking on the 5 for 5 menu. The best vegetable soup and wheaten bread I have had in a long time. The chowder also rated highly. Ample portions.

Shared two very tasty starters between six. Followed up with smoked cod, mash and creamed leeks. This was a stand out dish for me. Other dishes within our party were greatly appreciated too. Chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding were shared desserts. These were both rich and tasty. There is a discount on a Monday night. Very pleasant service. Wine is by the glass or the bottle. Disappointing sparkling wine selection however. Either frizzante or something far more expensive. Not quite the right balance. Nevertheless we had a very impressive dining experience.

Chekkers offers great value food and service for families and couples alike. The consistency of food each and every time sets it apart for value for money against anywhere else I've eaten.

Food is presented correctly, and generous portions, taste never disappoints and staff are always eager to please with great smiles and of course prices and atmosphere unbeatable.

Visited here last week for lunch. It was a really good experience. The food was great, the staff very friendly. I had the Chicken, my son had the Sausage and Champ and my husband had the Gammon Steak. All were cook to perfection, and all for £5 each. Will definitely be back next time we are in Larne.

We made a big mistake ordering starters AND a main course today as both were very generous serves! Service was friendly and fast and our lunch (piri piri chicken wings and nachos for starters, fish and chips and chicken escallop with champ and pepper sauce) we really good. Price including a pint was very reasonable too.

Pay a visit every time I come back to my home town. Great food. Mon to Fri up to 5pm meals for £5. Can't beat it. Great choice of beer/ales. Staff brilliant. Love it

Visited Chekkers wine bar on a Thursday evening with my husband.We were seated straight away and given our menus by a very friendly waitress.We had hit lucky it was steak night from 5 o'clock,which was choice of 3 steaks then a choice of 2 from 3 sides and then a choice of potatoes also a glass of red or white wine.This all for £9.99 each unreal value we thought and when our meals arrived we were so right.My husband and I both chose sirloin steak mushrooms and fried onions with chips/garlic fries.The size and quality of the steak was unreal and the meal was gorgeous.This place is a must if your looking a meal in Larne great food/service and value for money.We will definitely be back and both can't wait to try more of the menu.

Popped in this afternoon for their '5 for £5' menu' and enjoyed a lovely seafood chowder while my husband had the gammon and mash. Delicious food, good sized portions, friendly staff and very reasonable price. We will definitely be back!

Nous avons beaucoup aimé l'atmosphère (malgré que nous soyons les seuls cette soirée là) et la playlist. La nourriture est simple, bonne et pas chère avec quelques choix pour végétariens.

we had steaks and salads plus a few drinks to wash away the dust after along day on the road. Steaks cooked perfectly. Drinks served nice n cold. i recommend this place for a good meal and a drink on your travels.

Having won a Christmas meal in this Winebar, my husband and I dined here this afternoon. There was a good range of starters with typical Christmas mains and a lovely range of sweets. Portions were substantial and extremely tasty. I consider myself very lucky to have won this seasonal competition and look forward to visiting again.

have been here loads of times, food is good and the staff are friendly BUT the toilets are just DISGUSTING ! they have never been good any time i visited before but last night I would have needed wellie boots to wade through the urine . YES- URINE ! NO ....it was not water from a leaking toilet , or roof, or tap etc. the floor in both cubicles absolutely swimming with urine and a wet floor sign stuck in the middle of it . complained to staff who said 'sorry' . not good enough, get it sorted for other customers, i for one will never be back. . absolutely horrified

we stopped for a bite to eat and were really amazed with the food and the quality of service. I had a steak and it was HUGE! and cooked exactly the way I asked. our table was very well tended and nothing was to much trouble. definitely will be back

we often call in for lunch here the food is always good.....it's good, reliable tasty food. the service is the same (friendly, attentive, fast, etc) It what you expect good honest pub food to be like .........and the prices are very reasonable

Had 3-Course Sunday Dinner - absolutely top notch! Value for money is amazing! We go there for lunch and dinner all the time and the consistency of High quality food at such value for money is brilliant. Highly recommend!

Checkkers is a hidden treasure in tucked away in Larne at the beginning of the Causeway Coast Route. If you are planning on going on the drive up the north coast, this is the perfect place to get fed and watered in a warm inviting atmosphere. Chekkers is a family run restaurant/bar who have a passion for hospitality and entertainment. I am a coeliac and find it hard to get something to eat that isn't just salad, Chekkers had quite a few options to cater for my needs and couldn't do enough for us. Couldn't recommend it enough!

Put it in your diary - Thursday night is steak night in Chekkers Larne because you won't find better value anywhere! £9.99 for a huge steak, mushrooms and onions and a choice of chips. PLUS a free glass of vino! You couldn't buy the ingredients and cook it yourself for less never mind the free vino. To be honest I thought at £9.99 it would be tiny portions - wrong there was loads. I also wondered if it would be terrible quality - wrong again it was terrific. I have told everyone in work today about it and they don't believe me so chekk it out for yourself!!!

Went off the recommendation on TripAdvisor. The staff were friendly but the food was poor, I order mac and cheese and come out penne pasta in a bland white sauce, a friend ordered carbonara that was filled with mustard seeds and overpowering. Total disappointment

My daughter brought me for food I had chicken schnitzel chips and pepper sauce amazing. Sticky toffee pudding and butterscotch sauce was lovely too. Not to badly priced and really close to the town centre

Always get a good lunch at The Wine bar. Downstairs bar is let down by decor but upstairs is a nicely done up. Come on spend a few quid downstairs.

This place was recommended to us by our accomodation owner.We were there on wednesday - and it is the day that you get free dessert with main meal. Recently I am not huge fan of meat dishes - but this place offered few vegetarian dishes. I got thai veg curry with rice and pavlova for dessert. Unfortunately there was no alcoholic ginger beer available so I just stayed with tap water. Thai curry was very tasty - not too spicy. Unfortunately I am the master of Pavlova's as I often prepare them at home. And this pavlova was acceptable but... not so amazing to say "wow". I have to mention that my friends ordered sticky toffee puddings which looked lush (and looked at their faces it tasted the same) - so the next time - I would go with this one.For my meal - main and dessert - I paid...... 7 pounds. Great value!

E' un locale senza fronzoli, tipicamente irlandese e per nulla fancy. Il menù è abbastanza vario e si può scegliere tra un'ampia varietà di piatti. L'aspetto generale del locale non dà l'impressione di cura ma ciò non ha influito sulla qualità generale della cena.

Checker, AKA the Wine Bar, was a very good place for dinner and a beer. Although not the fault of the establishment, i sat at the bar next to a drunken co-ed and her grandmother who was also drunk. They were both entertaining and harmless. The service was excellent, and the food good. When i went off to find a club, the waitress offered to walk me through the neighborhood in which I was about to embark. That was a good offer, as the area outside of the main drag was a little sketchy. Both bartenders and the server who did clean up were great.

We were dropped here by a local when we told her we wanted authentic Irish food. Delish! The bartender's brother took us back to the ferry. We were able to talk the waiter into selling us the glass the beer came in.

My husband and I would frequent Steak Night at the Wine Bar fairly often and have never been disappointed. However I felt compelled to write this review because of my experience last Thursday night. I had a look over the comprehensive menu as well as the steak menu and decided I fancied a Thai Beef Curry which was not on the menu. Spoke to our lovely waitress Nicky, who had a word with the excellent chef and was told no problem at all. It was absolutely delicious, loads of really tender beef with a varied selection of veg throughout the curry, and a more than ample serving. It is an absolute delight that in this day and age Chekkars staff was prepared to go that extra mile and I thoroughly recommend this gem of a place and a huge thanks to the delightful staff.

Found this little gem by accident... went in and yes I had to walk through all the smokers, but once inside was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and courteous. When the food arrived it was AMAZING! Hot, great taste and plenty for the value. Of course I had to have dessert :) If you get a chance try to brownie...as I say Holy Crap on a Cracker it was fabulous !!!!

I've always like checkers food. The chicken salad is yummy and the schnitzel is favourite.The only things that it me off..and I'd be there every week if they were improved is the foul toilets. Absolutely disgusting.The place needs a good deep clean. But it's also a venue for the young drinkers at the weekend...so I would fancy clearing I after them!!!!!I'd recommend the food. But go to the loo at home before you go

This restaurant is quite clean in the eating area, the toilets are a bit on the unclean side. The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it's a place I've been too many times. The decor inside could be brightened up but overall had a good experience and one staff member who gives excellent customer services and is very friendly is Colin , he makes you feel welcomed and tends your every need.

Went here on a Saturday evening with the partner and her mother, to start with, nice venue but poorly finished, exposed walls, cracks, dust and cobwebs around the doors, but hey the foods good right? Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn't, sat menus given drinks ordered, drink arrives food ordered at timely and professional standard then 30 minutes later the partner asks at the bar if there is a problem with our food only to be told well there is that large party behind you were in first... Waited another 15 minutes before food arrived. The "large" party was a 12, I don't feel that 45minutes wait as 12 people ahead is appropriate, and without apologies was insulting. So food I had a classic burger with mac and cheese. Burger was good meat but cooked for about 30 of the 45 minutes waiting, dry as a bone and no seasoning, bap cheese and bacon were flavoursome but bacon fat was boiled, definitely needed crisping up, next the mac and cheese, exceptionally over cooked penne pasta doused with cream and topped with cheese then microwaved was pathetic. The girlfriend had chilli chicken which was battered then boiled in the chilli sauce until it was a stodgy mess, with garlic potatoes doused with cheap butter substitute, her mother had scampi, good size portion of cheap frozen reformed scampi and the chip were clearly over blanched before being refried. The final insult was the table not being checked until after we had eaten by which point any complaint would have been met with 'well you ate it all'. Its a shame as we have eaten here a dozen times before and it was good but might give it a while before giving it a second chance

What can I say visited this fantastic restaurant today with my partner and daughter wow what a Sunday lunch it's just amazing from the minute we walked in until we left the staff we're friendly and the food great first time there but I promise it won't be the last thank you

One of my favourite restaurants in larne! You can never go wrong, the menu has a great variety and it's so cheap for the quality. Love this place

My hubby and ~I would eat here fairly regulary, particulary on a Thursday night as it's steak night, great value £8.95 for you steak, sides and a glass of decent wine, hard to beat. However last time we veered away from the steak and opted for the roast beef. this was served with choice of side, vegetables and home made yorkshire pudding. It was simply devine, genuinely the nicest, most tender and flavoursome beef we have ever ate anywhere and my hubby loves his roast beef! I cannot recommend this dish enough and genuinely can't wait to return.

We had dinner at Chekkers and the meal was very good. There is plenty of choice and the prices are very attractive. The staff were helpful and friendly. We appreciated the wheelchair accessible table. It's been a couple of years since our previous visit and we thought the restaurant was looking much fresher and stylish than before. Look forward to returning.

Great menu, reasonably priced & tasty. Child friendly & has 2 main sections. Family friendly section & a bar area.I'm a regular visitor for lunch, where the steak sandwich is worth a try.

Thursday night is steak night at the winebar and it's pretty much the best in the town. The steak is always cooked perfectly, served quickly and presented nicely. The staff here are also really friendly and take orders quickly, I've never been waiting too long to have food served which is awesome.I've also eaten lunch and dinner here on nights that weren't steak night and they were perfect too. I'd definitely recommend eating here if you're in Larne for the day! For the quality of the food, the price is pretty cheap!

We visited Chekkers on a few occasions on our visit back to Larne from Lanzarote. Staff very attentive and service was great, did not have to wait at all to be served drinks and food to our table. Menu and daily specials very good and homely during the cold wet weather of Larne. Nice to see some of the old clients from my time using the bar when I lived there and Colin and his staff do a great job and create a friendly family atmosphere. Keep up the good work.

I've been to chekkers Winebar a few times and usually I only come for the food as then staff can be a Wee bit 'sour', but this time was different. Me, my wife and my two children went to the restaurant upstairs and were pleasantly greeted by a young girl with the biggest smile and welcoming. I think her name is Christine. Not only was the food excellent but the service was exceptional. In fact probably the best service I've ever had and the nicest meal in a long time. It's mine and my wife's 10th wedding anniversary shortly after the new year and I will definitely be coming to chekkers to celebrate. Services and food was second to none and I would highly recommend. Thank you Christine for a brilliant experience at chekkers Winebar.
