Chatwins in Denbighshire

Thank you to your lovely staff today and especially the new lady training, who couldn’t have been more helpful. I was with my parents and we all enjoyed soups a pie and of course a lovely cake. We felt very well looked after 👍

I ordered the Sunday lunch to eat in. I was so disappointed! The food was lukewarm, the meat inedible and tough, the gravy coagulated, the Yorkshire rubbery. My first and last lunch here, sorry to say. On a positive note-the room was warm with plenty of empty tables to choose from

Lovely little place to grab a drink and snack. Nice coffee and the pastries/cakes we got were lovely! Staff really friendly as well.

enjoyable bakery with carvery options. cakes are lovely the coffee is great but I'd have liked my latte a touch stronger but my wife loved her espresso.

My boyfriend + myself came to Ruthin for a drive. We spotted this place + decided to give it a try. The food was lovely, hot + fresh. The staff were very friendly + helpful. The place was nice + clean, with a nice atmosphere

Delicious, good value food. Good opening hours.

Ignored by staff. Ordered carvery bap and coffee which were lovely. Then returned to counter to purchase box of takeaway cakes. I was the only customer at the counter and repeatedly ignored by four staff members, chatting to each other. They did see me, two walked past me into the back. How ignorant! I left.

Really slow service, food was bang average but really expensive. Doesn't represent good value unfortunately.

What a disappointment. Having waited for approximately 15 minutes to be severed we were eventually severed our cooked breakfasts. The eggs were overcooked and cold the bacon and sausages were cold the mushrooms were cold as were the beans. The only item that was warm was the toast. After complaining about the expensive over priced breakfast a very nice lady microwaved the 2 breakfasts including the toast which then proved to be inedible as it was as hard as rock. Will we eat breakfast there again most definitely not. The cafe further down the road opposite the Turkey barbers offers much better value and are better staffed for the service they offer.

Nice food, the girl behind the counter with lovely eyes served us, she enlivened my tumescence to its height. The guy scratched his head over the vanilla Danish wasp covered pastries.

Well overpriced for what you get they have the cheek to charge a pound to sit in the cafe to eat

First time we have been to Chatwins and had breakfast, what a big disappointment. We were concerned about the food being on the counter under heat lamps. Although where was the heat ? The breakfast was luke warm, beans were nearly cold, the bacon was dry and the eggs were over cooked. How can it be so difficult to cook something as simple as a breakfast. Never again !

Came Sunday morning. Two young staff were very nice - well priced food

I really don’t know what’s going on at Chatwins in Ruthin. It’s constantly understaffed or staff not serving people or seemingly faffing about away from the counter despite queues out of the door. I’ve now given up ordering more than 1 item at a time as that seems to be more than many of the staff can cope with. I’ve just returned having bought a ‘cheese and onion pasty’ which it is not (see photo clearly containing vegetables) and having to confirm my order of a Turkey with stuffing with cranberry on a brown bap with butter 3 times.

Avoid. Poor quality and expensive. Must of been under the heat lamps for quite some time.

Called in for a breakfast bap. The lady serving seemed to have bad customer service skills and the bacon and sausage were cold and would appear to have been under the heat lamps for quite some time. Overpriced and poor quality.

Served by a lady who is appeared to be the manager as she barking orders to the staff around. She couldn’t have made our business seem less wanted. Took a lifetime to help with our order and seemed totally not bothered with any ounce of customer service. Food was cold and fell apart after ordering. Absolutely will not be going to any branch of Chatwins after this experience and will be speaking to friends and family to make sure they choose other local businesses instead where people obviously care about their job.

Just want to say that the guy with glasses and colourful tattoos on his arms, behind the counter consistently provides me with the best service out of all of the staff. Even when the shop incredibly busy he always serves me with the utmost care and pleasant attitude. Honestly sometimes I even come in just to be served by him as he’s miles above the other members of staff.

Great food good price and pleasant staff

Rubbish customer service. Totally miserable man behind counter. Totally ignored us for a good 5+ minutes after we had entered - perhaps because we were speaking Welsh? All he needed to do was acknowledge us and tell us he wouldn't be long - it wasn't as if it was busy there, four other customers sitting down. Counter and shop looks lovely but certainly not a nice experience so much so that I have taken time to write this review. Please smile next time, you might just make someone's day!!

Lovely little breakfast barm with everything on. They also did carvery barms which smelt so good.

Didn't know it was here until today as I come into Rhuthun another way. Had a fully loaded brekkie roll which was delicious . Staff very friendly

Called in for a breakfast meeting, as a local resident and business owner, I simply cannot believe in 2023 Chatwins cannot offer ANY diary alternatives, no soya milk, no oat milk, nothing, we were told we do not cater for vegetarians, people with allergies or vegan, its company policy!!!! Chatwins, I'd be really interested to see a copy of your company policy and learn just how you are complying with Allergy and Intolerance policies, I was so appalled we left and will not be returning, I welcome your feedback.

Fantastic service. The carvery wrap was amazing and a decent coffee to wash it down with. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Fast, efficient service.

Nice but understaffed. If people are queueing out of the door in the cold weather - you need more staff on. Was going to buy a cake that looked delicious but I'm not queuing outside in the cold. Also maybe don't latch the door open and it'll be warmer in the cafe itself. Coffee was nice and sausage rolls lovely but no dessert for me today!

Went here for lunch for my little boy and a coffee and cake for me and my husband. Two of three of us can't have dairy. There was no information freely available about what items were dairy free which they could eat, apart from asking the staff about one item at a time, for them to print off info about ingredients on the till. Never seen this before. We asked if my little boy could just have toast and 2 sausages, no butter on the toast as they had no dairy free spread. We were told 'not possible' as the staff are not allowed to make up meals which aren't specifically listed on the menu! Nothing like a gingerbread man or anything thar would be dairy free, no help forthcoming to find is anything he could have. Just left and went elsewhere. Will not be going back.

When you enter this establishment everything looks wonderful the food the cleanliness the staff, but then sadly it all goes wrong. Where can I start. The drinks are never hot ! The food is only just warm ! And worst of all I had a fully loaded Yorkshire Pudding, big mistake it came folded in half (how can you fold a Yorkshire pudding in half) unless it's like rubber which it was. I couldn't even cut it with a knife. Worst than that it cost £8.50 ! £45 in total for two cobs, coffee and a rubber Yorkshire Pudding. Very bad indeed. Three proper meals in Home Cookin in Llandudno was £48.00 incl coffee soup and sweet. No contest ! The management need to look into this. On a plus side the strawberry cake was very nice for £1.85.

Popped in to buy something for lunch as it was on my way home. Asked for pork and stuffing with apple sauce on brown bap. Paid £6.00. Got home and took a bite to only find the main component was slimy onions..which I didn't even ask for! What pork there was in it was very grisly too... Won't be returning!

We had two coffee and mince meet roll. Cappuccino and Americano coffee was discussing. Very weak and not hot enough. We ask to manager to change it, she ask us to pay again. We paid £9,80 for horrible coffee and service. We left somewhere else for coffee.

Visited and bought a roll with fillings, drink and crisps - £6.50 - and sat down. Assistant commented in a harsh manner that she did not realise I was going to sit in the cafe. "Why?", I asked. "Because there's a service charge", she informed me. "What would that have been?" asked I. "£9.00, but don't worry" was the answer. I don't think I'll be visiting again! I like to sit in friendly places and feel welcome....

Breakfast bap arrived, the bacon looked like it had been boiled it disgusting, the egg was cool and as for the mushrooms they looked like they had been boiled too they were full of water and cold, and to top it off there was a dark 4inch hair in it!!!!🤢🤮 disgusting experience.

We were stopped for coffee here and a cake😋. The staff was lovely. You're served to the table. Besides cakes😋😋, there's an option to have a sandwich/salad and hot food for lunch. On the main street... you won't miss it... Definitely call in

We called in on the way to the Welsh coast and what a find.Once you walk in I dare you to say NO to the amazing cakes on offer.There is also a great choice of sausage rolls,sandwiches and yes more cakes.The service was very good,it's very clean and it tends to attract a lot of passing trade.great.Just visited Chatwins again after twelve months and it's still excellent.

Stopped for a bacon butty and a cuppa while my car was in the garage being fixed.

They do a Yorkshire pudding wrap here and it's incredible.... I even think it's healthy too :)

Luke warm coffee ! Pork baps not very warm and cold stuffing, Blackcurrant tarts! pastry was awful. Not impressed but we will try it again to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Good choice of food on the menu, you can sit in or take away. Recommend chicken salad bowl, choice of chicken and dressing and a good mixed salad.

Absolutely wonderful find. Lovely friendly staff and delicious food. Doorstop toast and a great bacon butty set us up for the rest of our journey. The only disappointment is that we don't live nearer to visit more often.

Good quality selection of foods however, being charged 60p to sit in and eat a small cake came as a bit of a shock!! My advice, take out all our food to eat, don't sit in....

Lovely food and wonderful service.

We were not allowed in and were told in no uncertain terms dogs were not welcome. The cafe was completely empty and we are not surprised due to the unwelcoming attitude of the staff. When I then asked if they knew of anywhere that would serve us with dogs we were told nowhere in town accepted dogs. This is untrue as a short walk away we found Leonardo’s who welcomed us in and had treats for the dogs and great food and service for us.

We stopped here for coffee and cake on Good Friday. I had a lovely Easter chick fondant cake, which was very tasty and seasonal. The decor is modern and clean. Staff service is great. There is plenty of seating inside and on the outdoor terrace. This makes an excellent place to stop for lunch or a snack.

Very very tough beef in our rolls. Simply unable to bite through grizzle.Knife was of no help. £18.60 for 2 coffees and 2 hot rolls one of which we could eat. Not their best moment. Would be a good idea to educate staff to carve joint across the fibres of the joint. This despite assurances by area manager after the last time this happened that the problem would be addressed.

Ordered 4 meal deals at £6 each. Was told that's only take away and to eat in would cost more. £6 for a meal deal is not really a great deal but sandwiches were fresh and deep filled, cakes delicious, looking at your menu though...

If you enjoy paying over the odds for bland food you will love it here! I won’t be visiting again.

We had a little stop off and found this place so glad we did, I had a steak pie which was so tasty and full of meat food was so fresh lovely place to have food and a coffee

First time visiting for lunch & was very disappointed.Staff not friendly or helpful & the prices we're extreme. We eat in & paid for a pastry & toastie which didn't come with garnish, presented poorly for the price. Certainly won't be back again, and left hungry and the quality of food also poor.

Ordered 2 bacon sandwiches and 2 sausage baps for kids with 2 coffes 26£.... Bacon dry, chewy, been under hot lights for hours Kids sausages cremated, dry Do not recommend! Would give 1star but young lady serving us was very nice

Lovely food, pleasant atmosphere, to eat in.

Nice and clean. Quick service. Shame the cheese and onion slice was pretty bland and made of 90% mashed potato!

Visited Christmas Eve, most things out of stock which they said they close for 2 weeks after today but you did not even have a slice of cheese....really we only wanted toasties and could not even have that.

One of the best shops in Ruthin not only see the food in front of you but smell it as well !Lovely bread roll baps,of various meat joints with the trimmings-pork,beef turkey.Bacon Sausage Mushrooms also avalable Good choice of cream cakes.Popular and busy with a cue very often.Well reomended.Friendly and polite

We just had a carvery bap and a coffee for lunch. It was all very nice. Clean place with polite informative and engaging staff. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again

Beware - misleading pricing!! We visited today and decided to eat in (after being asked). We purchased 3 filled rolls(small), 1 packet of crisps, 1 juice and 2 coffees. Shocked when charged in excess of £22! The price stated £3.80 for the small filled roll. We actually paid £4.95? and one didn't even contain salad. We searched the menu board in case we had missed anything, and nowhere did it state an extra charge for eating in. There was however, clear pricing on the cakes displayed in the cabinet. Eat in or take out ( big difference too). We did query this after, with the person who served us. She said they have mentioned this themselves several times, as it should be clear... she said sorry however, didn't clarify the extra amount charged... I wonder if this is lawful and will be checking, as I have never experienced anything like this before. Basically, they can just add as much as they like, and it is left to the customer to work out how much it costs extra to eat in. Total rip off! I initially intended to purchase a cake with the coffee, however, stood amazed watching them be devoured by several wasps - the staff seemed oblivious to this?? Wish now we had turned round and walked out. Safe to say we shall never return!

The friendly and smiling young lady apprentice gave me a lovely welcome and seemed happy in her work, which was nice to see. Sadly, her male colleague didn't seem so happy to be there - but maybe he was having "one of those days" that...

Lovely place for food, 100% would recommend. Went on a 3 day trip to Wales and ended up coming here for breakfast 2/3 days .

Great food but the cost varies dramatically between eat in and take out. Expect and extra 65p on a cake or £1.20 extra on a bacon bap.

Really nice shame they had run out of turkey, as it was only 12 Only thing a lot of wasps on the cakes ,not the best thing really 😒

Good sandwich shop with outdoor seating. Staff let me put my bike in the yard whilst I ate. Sever was pleasant. I had a very hearty roast pork sandwich and an amazing vanilla Danish. The coffee was OK but I've had much better. Altogether spent less than £10 with a sandwich, pastry, hot drink and a water. Would recommend to cyclists passing through Ruthin

We dropped in for some takeaway sandwiches and everything was perfect. Nice fresh sandwich made exactly as we wanted, great selection of bread & fillings, lots of pies and cakes to choose from. Lovely.

Member of staff prepared my bup with no gloves! Otherwise lovely shop and good food but not wearing gloves is of putting!

Very nice cafe, with excellent coffees and Danish pastries. The staff were also very efficient and friendly. Before going to Ruthin, I’d never even heard of Chatiwns, but I’m so glad I popped in there.

Brilliant for eat in or take out grub before COVID-19. Now doing a great trade but just takeout. Good safety, both distancing and sanitising. Well done staff 😊

The warm Beef sandwich is made to order, realising the Beef left over after was not enough for the next order I was offered it at no extra charge, this is rare in 2020 My request of horseradish sauce was catered for with as much as I liked and the best named brand to boot, nice staff they didn't achieve 5 star though due to the price of the coffee to cup amount, some are charging less and giving you more, I do take an interest in coffee and it's place of origin flavour etc, I'll try them again In the future All the best.

Lovely food and friendly service

Had breakfast bap and it tastes amazing. It is a great place to get hot food but sometimes there are not much food available on Saturday afternoon. The bees were flying over the cakes on this occasion and I’m too dare to grab one. Might be better to get somethings to cover? Looking forward to the next visit!

The staff were very pleasant managing a very well organised Covid 19 safe environment. The food and coffee delicious too.

Visited this cafe this morning Staff pleasant but the actual cafe was dirty It appeared that the chairs and floor had not been cleaned. Would nit visit this establishment again

Nice cafe to grab a quick bite. The food is decent, the tables in the cafe area are slightly small but not bad and the staff are very nice. It's not the cheapest but doesn't seem too overpriced for the quality and service. The cakes and confectionary is great - loads of choice and they taste lovely. If you're on a diet and have a sweet tooth - don't go here! If not, go for it 🙂
