Charcoals cafe in Glasgow City

We chanced upon this restaurant and ventured in. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We had some popadoms to begin and these were brought with some tasty dips. The waiter then brought out some vegetable pakoras ‘on the house’ these were delicious and served with another tasty dip. All washed down with a large, cold Cobra. The mains arrived. We ate a chicken and chick pea dish as well as a spinach and lentil dish (sorry, I can’t remember the names of them) pilau rice, peshwari Nan and 2 chapati. All was delicious and plentiful. Too much for two adults. The waiter then brought out some complimentary Nan bread that was also delicious. The bill just exceeded £50 including service. Thank you very much indeed for a lovely dinner.

Family night out for son’s birthday (his choice). Fantastic food and great staff make this place a must visit. On this visit tried new dishes, my goodness they were fantastic. Ali made sure it was a special night for my boy with a slice of tiramisu , birthday candle and singing waiters. A great meal and night out. Can’t wait for a return visit

Was here for dinner with friend been long time we not been to charcoals food and service been amazing as always on our visit even before lockdown. Cant wait to bring the kids over next, Muhammad Sultan and staffs friendly and with smile make it comfortable even during after the football time

The lunch menu was only £8.95 with a £2 supplement for lamb - The Lamb Rogan Josh was absolutely delicious. The wine was a bit more expensive than before. Overall Service and Food were excellent and we will return soon 😍

That staff where very obliging and made our visit very enjoyable, the food was excellent every course magic ! ! ! Even had an excellent cup of tea at the end ! Mum enjoyed her ice cream & dad enjoyed his coffee…. We will be back soon …. 1st rate !

What a great night! We had been to the last location a couple of times (but not for a good while as we only visit when we stay in Glasgow and for various reasons we hadn’t been back)and really loved the food and service so when we were visiting Glasgow we wanted to go again and it didn’t disappoint! Food was really lovely. The portions were a decent size, we definitely left with full happy belly’s! but without compromising on quality. Food was well spiced and balanced without blowing your head off but hot enough that it wasn’t bland either. as a meat eater and a vegetarian we both found plenty of options for us both I particularly like both my starter Chana chat and my main dal makni. My partner had the lamb chops to start and he said they were so tender melt in the mouth he also had charcoals goldie iv just asked him as I’m writing this and he has animatedly replied very nice, very nice indeed! all the staff including the owner were great. They were quick and polite and attentive without being too intrusive. It was busy and they were the same with all the other tables too. It’s not something all restaurants get right so I noticed how good the service was despite it being busy. We had a couple of complimentary items given to us which was a lovely little unexpected but appreciated extra. one of them was a massala popadom with a really delicious salad although I’m not sure what it’s name was. Wish I did as I’d definitely order it next time! It’s a shame we live so far away as if this restaurant was closer I’m positive we would become regulars! We will definitely be back though next time we visit Glasgow.

I am so glad I was told about this restaurant. Not only is the food and service excellent, Muhammad Sultan is also proactive in helping the community. All customers are warmly greeted and made to feel at home. The menu choices are plentiful and portions are generous. I make a point of always visiting Charcoals when I am in Glasgow.

Love Ali! Great food, great hospitality. We normally go to Charcoals on Renfield Street. This was closed due to scaffolding. We made the journey to Trongate for the other restaurant. Brilliant! Had South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken. Delicious 😋

The staff are so outstanding and friendly service is great the food is the best Indian I've ever tried everything I've had has been amazing my fav is the chicken tikka masala. They are award winning amazing keep up the good work 👏I've been her about 10 times in the last 3 months lol its sooo good!!

I've eaten at Charcoals several times now, and recommended them to others on the basis that you can rely on them having really good food, and good value for money, and that you will leave feeling well fed. The lunch and pre-theatre set menus are both particularly good value, and I recommend trying them if you can get there within the set times. It was knowing this that made me choose Charcoals to take my dad out for dinner on his birthday, and they didn't disappoint. Service was great - we even got some complementary nibbles along with our starter - and we both really enjoyed the meal, as expected. My dad said that he'd likely come back another time, as will I, again.

Superb food - great portions - very friendly and welcoming - service very attentive and professional - overall a really pleasant and worthwhile experience - we would recommend this restaurant without hesitation - special mention to Ali for his warmth and kindness.

The food is good quality and gives very little reason for complaints. The lamb chops are a must try.

Food good but delivery time terrible. The times stated on just eat are clearly very wrong so don’t base your choice of restaurant on this! Which I did. Obviously doesn’t realistically reflect how busy the places are until you place the order. Delivery guy very pleasant and apologetic But food still took 1hour 30 mins from ordering.

Prawn Saag is the best I've had since I was a kid. Absolutely amazing. Portion sizes were gut busting!!! Poppadoms delicious. Chicken wings huge. 1st time eating from here but wow I will be back.

Both currys were swimming in oil. Nan was undercooked.

Food was cold and poppadoms smashed. It was a shame as we have ordered from here before and food and delivery was a lot better.

La comida era excelente, pedimos alitas de pollo, pollo tikka, paneer tikka y veg pakora para empezar y como plato principal era pollo con mantequilla, cordero desi, Veg Jaipur y Daal con naan, paratha y arroz. A todos les encantó y todavía recibo elogios por elegir el restaurante. Así que me gustaría agradecer al restaurante, al personal y al chef por hacerlo memorable.Esperamos aliviar la situación de COVID y lo visitamos nuevamente.

Anoche tuve una comida deliciosa en Charcoals con mi esposa. El pollo tandoori tikka, el plato Makhani y los panes de ajo nan eran encantadores. Como siempre, Muhammad Sultan fue el anfitrión perfecto y se aseguró de que nos cuidaran. They delete my honest review, so I will write it again. The place share a tricky offer on a social media for a discount that is not available actually. They lied the indoor space can't be used. They give you a plastic cutleryes instead of proper one. When i asked for the bill I did not receive a receipt- just the waiter (and manager) told me the amount. Shady place, should be avoided.

Never delivered, just hung up when I called asking where my food was. Appalling.

Second time I've ordered from here having heard good things so thought I'd give it another go but it was really disappointing. 9 quid for a prawn curry that has tiny hard and very dry prawns in it that were worse than the ones you get in instant noodles.

During lockdown we had their takeout menu and the food was delicious. It always is. Best garlic chilli chicken in town. Highly recommend this restaurant and managed by the talented Muhammad Sultan

Brilliant takeaway from charcoals on Friday night. Food was amazing as usual and as always great value for money. The portions were so big one takeaway kept us fed all weekend. Thanks for continuing to provide great food and service during lockdown under challenging circumstances.

Their version of a spicy popadom pictured. Barely warm processed sludge accompanied by a mean portion of cadaverous charcoal.

Our takeaway last Saturday was terrible. To give you some examples,the poppadoms were not crisp, the vegetable curry was tasteless, and one bite of the king prawn curry consigned it to the bin. Finally, the order was missing two main courses.

Visited for first time early on a Saturday evening, the service and food was excellent, would definitely recommend. The prices are also excellent for the city centre.

El personal es fantástico. La comida es encantadora y el restaurante no está demasiado ocupado. ¿Qué más puedes pedir? Definitivamente volveremos pronto. This restaurant serves great food with good service from the staff.A small place however you will blown away by the flavours and the quality ingredients used in their dishes.

Having read the positive reviews I was very much looking forward to visiting Charcoals Cafe with my family. I was not disappointed; it was perfect for our celebration!Attentive staff, although seemed a little disorganised in terms of who was serving us. We booked on 5pm and one server told us we were to choose from the pre-theatre menu but the next server said we could choose from the a la carte (with some exceptions). Wasn't fussed either way but would be nice if everyone was on the same page to avoid confusion.Other than that, food was very nice, poppadoms were tasty and crisp, and what great value for money!Staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, and we all had a great feed. Will definitely return.

Tuve algunos entrantes y platos principales por completo y no me puedo quejar de la comida, tuve un jaipuri de pollo y un lado de saag aloo junto con un ajo nan y arroz pilau para compartir. Un montón de comida y empaqué mis sobras para llevar a casa. La primera vez que visito este restaurante, pero he estado en su hermana Charcoals en la calle Renfield y en realidad prefiero este. Sí, está un poco más lejos del centro de la ciudad, ¡pero vale la pena caminar más! Personal amable y eficiente. ¡Volveré!

This was a late lunch/early dinner birthday meal for 5. The restaurant was quite so we got good service. It definitely has a cafe feel about with very plain furnishings. The food was good sound Glasgow curry shop favourites, well presented and plenty of.<br />The only down side was the swinging front door. On a very windy day it kept swinging open and the restaurant was very cold at times.

Never had a bad meal in Charcoals! The curry with meat and potatoes was delicious and my husband had biryani which was a huge plateful but also delicious. We were given a glass of pink champagne and some chicken wings as it was valentines. Such a lovely touch. We’ll be back!

Aparecí ayer y tuve que revisar. . Los 2 muchachos que servían fueron muy serviciales y pacientes con mi hija de 2 años, ¡incluso jugando con ella lanzando una pelota para mantenerla entretenida! Tuve un cordero samosa srtater que estaba cubierto con garbanzos en salsa. . ¡INCREÍBLE! . . Tuve Chasni después de eso con una hermosa Naan fresca. . . Trato previo al teatro, con porciones muy generosas. . No se pudo terminar, pero obviamente Doggy se llevó a casa. . . . Went here recently for a quick bite and a few drinks before a gig nearby, and have to say the food was first class.

We visited Charcoals on a Sunday night and we cannot wait to go back! We visit Glasgow often and always have a curry but this was our first visit and we weren't disappointed! Lovely staff and the Chef even took the trouble to come and chat to us which was a great opportunity for me to ask him for advice when making our own curry! I cannot stress enough how good their food is.

Not the biggest place you will ever find , but well worth seeking it out . TBH I was looking for another place not far away but stumbled on this place on the way . Boy am I glad I did . Great Curry on the bone lamb with pilau rice and all the trimmings , Great service place was very busy but service was prompt and guys were great . I travel a lot and visit a lot of Curry houses this is up there with the best .

Got a takeaway one evening to collect, service was nice and friendly. Food was very mixed, pakora was hard and had been reheated rather than freshly cooked. Curries were average, same with the naan. Just wasn't impressed, but wasn't awful either.

Booked a table for 6pm. Turned up at the restaurant on time to find it all closed up and a handwritten note on the door saying they were closed because of a problem wth the gas supply. They had our phone number from when the reservation was made so could have called to tell us they were closed and we could have made alternative arrangements? Very poor.

Had a takeaway, for 10 people. Everything from the pizzas, curries, kebabs, salads, naans, sauces was top notch..!! Will order again for sure. Well priced and fast delivery.

Visited Charcoals Cafe last night for dinner and had some excellent food. I had the baked poppadoms with selection of dip. These have to be my favourite poppadoms i've ever had, so tasty with a bit of a kick. Chicken pakora to start which was so fresh and tasty and a medium heat chicken tikka masala, which was also extremely tasty and the perfect heat for me. We also had an accompaniment of garlic bread which was cooked to perfection. This restaurant is like a little hidden gem. It's light, bright and the staff are so helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately because of the location they don't seem to be as busy as the other Charcoals but I prefer it and it even has an outdoor seating area to enjoy the sunshine. I've been so many times before and will continue to go back.

We visited as two families. Found too noisy (though that could be attributed to location) but also found too small portions of main courses. No complementary side dishes. Waiters were too hasty to try to get us out after finishing food. We were visiting Glasgow for a day trip and at the end of the day, this just didn’t finish our day well!

Mi pareja y yo queríamos compartir el almuerzo, así que pedimos algo del tablero especial del almuerzo, ya que queríamos algo pequeño. Cuando el mesero dejó nuestros cubiertos, simplemente los colocó en el medio de la mesa y tampoco le dio ninguno a mi compañero. Cuando entregó nuestra comida, pedí cortésmente otro juego de cubiertos y un plato, ya que había mucha comida y queríamos compartir. El camarero solo regresó con un tenedor y cuando le recordé el plato se puso muy grosero, puso los ojos en blanco y luego me dijo que generalmente no comparten los especiales de almuerzo. El servicio en este lugar fue atroz y por eso no pude disfrutar de mi comida en absoluto. El camarero debería haber sido acogedor ya que éramos uno de los pocos restaurantes y gastar nuestro dinero allí. Muy pobre. Posiblemente peor servicio y hospitalidad jamás experimentados. No volveremos 0/100

La comida aqui es deliciosa. Pakora crujiente de verduras, saag de langostinos con langostinos masivos y una parrilla de mezcla de tandoori que viene con salsa. Pedimos arroz y un paratha por separado. Paratha era realmente escamosa y mantecosa. La parrilla mixta por solo 15 definitivamente haría 2 personas. Llevamos lo que no pudimos comer a casa. Realmente encantador personal amable.

Passed by here more times than I can remember but decided to pop in on way to a concert. So glad we did. We only had a mix of 5 starters between us and can't fault a single thing. It's amazing what can be done with chickpeas and a potato. The tandoori salmon was gorgeous as well. Will definitely be back as soon as we can.

had a great meal here , ensure you order the poppadoms and nan bread you can tell they are made in house never seen or tasted anything like them , not the usual but in a good way

The owners of the excellent Charcoals Renfield Street, also own The Charcoals Cafe 74 Trongate. I have not been here for a while, but enjoyed all my previous visits. Had a solo lunch (how sad) and was very impressed. The welcome was warm and genuine. The Lunch menu was basically £7. My starter was Chicken Aloo and was very tasty. (We can,t have pakora every time.) My main was Lamb Makhani. Delicious and plentiful. I also had a glass of the House White. (French) Very pleasant. The food and service here are superb.

I went today with my wife while out shopping & i was blown away with from start to finish. The place is small but big enough not to busy & we never waited too long for our food. We have been in the well known glasgow Indian restraunts & this place is on a par with them , Tikka starter was a wee bit burnt with the charcoal on the outside the way it should be done IMO but on the inside it was lovely & real chicken not the processed stuff you sometimes get .. the same with the main , tika massala & south indian garlic chilli which was hot & just right. the price is reasonable so give it a try.

Visited here on route to Celtic Park for the rugby final. Waiter took our very wet jackets and had a wee joke.

Myself, my wife, our 2 grown up kids and one of their partners visited on Monday 6th May. (Our second visit).

Passing by this restaurant feeling hungry we decided to give it a try. Staff are friendly. Good service. Beer too warm. But it's all about the food. Poppadoms and dips, very spicy onions, chicken pakora and aloo chana. Tasty. Jaipuri and chicken biryani. A massive amount of food although extremely tasty. Nan bread and peshwari nan as sundries. Absolutely stuffed. What let's this restaurant down is its awful toilet facilities. So try the Aloo but avoid the loo.

We ordered the lamb saag and chicken chasni both were above average, good flavours and big portions sizes. We were also given free chicken wings/chicken chaat before they gave our main. The service was also very good and staff were very friendly. The bread was fresh and tasty, we had a peshwari naan and had to order a chapati as we had so much sauce left. Would definitely recommend before a gig or night out, fast service

We fell lucky when we found this unassuming cafe/restaurant when we were looking for lunch. After walking past a number of other places the tantalising smell of onions wafted towards us as the door opened and we were hooked. The £6.95 on the board for a two course lunch really helped us to!!!

Excellent curry. We got a deal on 5pm so it was great value for a Friday night. I was surprised how quiet it was. Only one other table so no atmosphere. I had chicken chaat and lamb kharahi and bth were Excellent. Great value traditional curry. I hope more people go.

Called in for Saturday lunch recently on the way to the football. Ordered Veg Pakora and Lamb Rogan Josh off the lunch menu - which came to £7.95. Lamb and vegetables were very fresh, although I did the feel the sauce was a little bland. I also had a 660ml bottle of Kingfisher which was well priced at £5. Service was efficient and product represents good value for what it is. There are better curry houses in Glasgow but you certainly get what you pay for here.

Staff are nice and food is very very fresh. Poppadums were fantastic as done on chargrills. Would certainly recommend if wanting fresh Indian food.

Visited here last night (a Saturday) with friends. They had been before but myself and my husband hadn't. They said it was fabulous - and how right they were! Started with popadoms with garnishes - have to say that these are the best popadoms we have ever eaten - fresh and crisp and delicious! You have to try them..... then had 2 staters between us - chicken Chaat and Chicken pakora - both wonderful. Bit of a kick but not too much.... the (very pleasant and efficient) waiter also brought a 'freebie' - chicken wings, which were scrummy. I had Lamb Malaidar for main course - cooked with fresh spinach, lots of garlic and cream. Can't begin to tell you how delicious it was - simply divine. Not too garlicy and quite rich. Spicy without blowing your head off - so you can still taste the meat. It was so good... friends and husband had bhoona dishes and the Mattar paneer, all of which were declared as wonderful. 2 naan breads and a rice were our accompaniments, 2 of us had a glass of wine and the others had soft drinks. We simply couldn't manage a dessert or coffee - were so full. Came in at less than £20 a head - amazing value for such fabulous food. Only negative was that it was such a cold night and every time the door opened, you got a blast of cold air. Ideally should have some sort of vestibule to avoid the diners getting so cold. But everything else so brilliant - can forgive them this! Will definitely be back - can't recommend highly enough.

El restaurante estaba tranquilo, así que no estoy seguro de si querían un final temprano, pero nos hizo sentir muy incómodos y nos fuimos rápidamente. Esto fue una pena, ya que he visitado este restaurante antes y nunca me di cuenta de esto! Esperemos que uno fuera.

Food was excellent and service very good. Toilet facilities could do with an upgrade. Well situated in a busy area.

Another fantastic meal courtesy of Charoals, Ashish, Ali and the team. This is our favourite Indian restaurant in Glasgow. The food is always excellent, the service exceptional and we are always made to feel welcome. A consistently wonderful place to eat.

Had a birthday dinner here tonight and had fantastic service from Nav and other staff.W e were given 5star treatment including complimentary drinks and nibbles of chicken wings .Been here loads of times and this was best yet.Can't wait to go back ,also was amazing value for money.

Very decent meal indeed. Centre of Glasgow, well cooked , good service and excellent value. Some indian street food on offer as well as the old favourites...

We have been to charcoals several times now and it’s been consistently delicious! The staff are friendly and the food is amazing. The lunch special is a fantastic deal, we could probably do with just one meal between the two of us... but it’s too difficult to pick just one dish. If you like spicy curries, just ask them to make whatever you are ordering spicier and they will happily accommodate you.

Have used this restaurant many times. The service and food is always of the highest standard. We took friends for the first time who were equally impressed.

Three of us went there on Saturday at tea time. Food was excellent. We even got a free starter. Very polite and attentive staff. Cannot recommend highly enough
