Beautiful vegan food and a beautiful place. Gorgeous vegan breakfast and then I even bought a sandwich, delicious all round!

Ordered a coffee and a slice of cake and they came to £9.50 which I think is crazy but this felt extra crazy because my coffee was almost tasteless and my cake had really good flavour but was definitely a couple of days old as it was so stale. Being a local in Edinburgh I am so used to paying £7-£8 for a coffee and a baked good but it is usually so worth it as we have so many lovely independent coffee shops etc. but unfortunately chapter one is not worth it for me.

Lovely coffee place. At first I didn't know, only when I had to change my order I was informed it's a vegan place. And they serve the most delicious vegan food around. The full breakfast is full of taste which made me crave more their vegan haggis. The cappuccino could be a little better but overall it's a nice place to sit have a coffee and get on with your life. The girls working are nice and attentive. Our experience was so good that we had breakfast there twice. Highly recommend.

We absolutely love this coffee shop! They have such a large and amazing choice of drinks (especially lattes) and amazing cakes! A few of my favorites: gingerbread latte, lavender latte, strawberry and matcha cake, raspberry and matcha cake.

We came here twice during our trip to Edinburgh – what a great find! The selection of vegan cakes, pastries, sandwiches and breakfast foods were amazing. We had the full English both times and highly recommend! Love the ethos.

As soon as I saw French toast on the menu of this vegan cafe, I knew I had to order it. It's something I've never seen on a vegan menu and it didn't disappoint! Gorgeous food

We were looking for a coffee shop around lunchtime over the festive period, and we were pleased to find Chapter One. This location served some excellent vegan food and beverages. I had the spelt and quinoa croissant as a bite to eat. I am not normally a fan of oat milk in coffee, but I did enjoy my gingerbread spiced mocha. The tables were quite close together, and I did have a plant to compete with adjacent to my table. However, this did not really detract from the visit. Staff members were very pleasant and helpful. The toilet was very quirky. One to return to, I think.

This is the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever tried in Edinburgh. The dishes are incredibly delicious, and I couldn't imagine that vegetarian food could reach such a level of excellence. The owner is extremely friendly and patient. As it was Christmas Eve and close to closing time, the owner kindly gave us two delightful desserts, which was a pleasant surprise and greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this place, and I'll definitely visit again next time.

Best vegan French Toast ever, just a lovely little cafe.

It was great to find an all-vegan cafe! I had the breakfast roll with sausage which was delicious and filling. The oatmilk in my coffee had a weird aftertaste. Staff was very kind. Definitely will visit again when I’m in Edinburgh again!

Delicious full Scottish breakfast—carefully sourced and ideally presented. This is the best vegan fry up we have had! While the breakfast was reasonable for a “fry up” it was still a little heavy/oily for me. If I had no concern for health/digestion, this would bot be an issue.

Found this gem by accident, wanted a late afternoon coffee, asked if they had any vegan cakes only to discover I had walked into a vegan cafe. It's nice to have coffee with anything but a bloody brownie. Thank you.

Went for breakfast, looking for a vegan alternative, we ordered bread with vegan bacon and a breadslice with peanutbutter and banana. A chocolate and a coffee. First of all, the presentation, very poor and then the bread so dry. the chocolate was okay, but the coffee was bitter, need to offer better coffee. Not what you expect when you see there web site and photos. A disappointment.

Had a peanut butter and banana sandwich what was really nice, just what you would expect. Only the carrot cake was not that nice. Maybe if you like a lot of lemon in your cake, this is perfect for you. It also had a weird sugary taste, my friend also didn’t like it. anyways.. I could not finish the cake

A lovely vegan cafe! The food was amazing! (We had the biscoff cinnamon bun, nutella croissant and the bree & cranberry spinach baguette)! All delicious and amazing that it's fully vegan.

The food they offer is good, also if it's extremely expensive. Being the only vegan place in the area, I often go there when I don't have time to prepare my lunch. I have been there at least 6-7 times, and every time, the environment I find is not very friendly. Never a smile or a kind look or phrase, but always grumpy and apparently angry. Maybe you should pay an extra here to get some kindness. Among other things, the last time I was lined up, and my turn had arrived, but the girl preferred to look at who was behind me and serve them. Being quite rude.

My friend who lives nearby recommended us having breakfast here and wow it didn’t disappoint. I have a dairy allergy so often find it difficult to eat out with limited options but there is not this struggle here, everything is vegan and it’s brilliant! You must try it here! Struggled with what to choose as there is so much choice so we got a few items to share which were all delicious and even got a Nutella croissant & pain au chocolat to take away. The drinks were delicious, coffee very smooth. Wish I had more room as the freshly made sandwiches on the counter looked delicious and well filled! Thanks again for a great experience.

We were visiting my family in Edinburgh. My relatives are not vegan. Nevertheless, we decided to invite them out to the nearest vegan café. Upon entering the café, we were surprised that there weren't any overt references to everything being plant-based. If they continue to do this, it would be the ideal café to bring non-vegans that have a bias or prejudice against vegan food & drink (despite having never tried it). Our relatives were reluctant to try anything. We assured them that oat milk is one of the best alternatives to dairy milk for coffee. They loved their lattes. We loved our cappuccinos. The sweet treats were lovely too. The staff were pleasant and the café is cosy. My only negative is that the place gets very busy - to the extent where you sometimes feel like you need to finish your food and leave quite quickly. That said, it is great to see a vegan venue become so popular and frequented by so many people. Me and my partner came straight back here the following morning. Chapter One is reason enough to get off at Haymarket Station... It's reason enough to travel to Edinburgh! I would love to see more 'Chapters' in the UK. Pros: 100% Vegan, Cosy Café, Friendly Staff Cons: Very Busy

a highly recommend vegan cafe in Edinburgh is chapter one so on my visit to the city I made it a must to visit on our last day , such cute spot on the corner and chilled interior in a street off town I went early so was quiet on a Monday The menu was so hard to choose from so ended up getting near enough half of it ft the Biscoff swirl , blue smoothie bowl 🥣 french toast with bacon 🥓 and banana 🍌 plus oats topped with Coconut cinnamon peanut butter and cacao , plus the granola there was a lil miscommunication and delay with my order so they kindly gave me a raspberry croissant 🥐 which I appreciated from their bakery as I’ve never tried one before ! Which I took away Amazing choice and delicious food

Found Chapter One on day 1 of a 4 night trip to Edinburgh and ended up going in there 7 times. Amazing breakfast (ate in and had 2 take away), great coffee and lovely cakes. What really makes it is the people who work there - they make every customer feel special and the attention to detail is excellent. Worth going to Edinburgh just to visit it

found this place by chance on a rugby weekend in Edinburgh both of us are non vegans so wanted to try something different fabulous latte coffees and cakes enjoyed as mid morning snacks ! great atmosphere - coffees hot and tasty great selection of eats - spoiled for choice

I was absolutely blown away by this hidden gem. The vegan breakfast was so good, we came back the next day and had it again. Before going vegetarian, I was never a big bacon eater, but the bacon on the vegan breakfast has me wanting me still. Absolutely phenomenal, and filled us up for a day in Edinburgh. Great atmosphere and good coffee too, can't fault it.

Really nice cafe with good coffee and lovely food. I've been in a few times now and the staff have been friendly. The space is simple and small but does exactly what you need to meet with friends for lunch or cuppa. The only thing that surprised me after my third visit was the staff informed me everything is vegan. Which I'm totally fine with, I normally prefer a vegetarian/vegan option when I'm out as my husband is 100% a meat eater. I know there is something on the menu but I didn't look at it, I was looking at the glass cabinet to pick something from that and the description on the glass didn't indicate anything and as far as I'm aware there was nothing to note that it's a vegan cafe. I'm giving a four star review because the food was good and I will definitely go back, but I think it should be clearer for people to know what they are buying.

Great coffee, nice food. The sandwichs/rolls are amazing! The bread is delicious and the fillings just so yummy (the Mediterranean is my favourite!). Very pleasant staff. Highly recommended

Best Vegan Breakfast I've had for a long time! The French Toast with "bacon" and banana is amazing and the full Scottish Breakfast was tasty too! I enjoyed a chai latte and the coffee went down a treat. Just wish it was more obvious it's all Vegan from the outside!

100% vegan cafe but I didn't even realise! The wee note on the menu that says it's all vegan isn't very clear, had originally been disappointed I couldn't get a breakfast bap as there didn't seem to be a vegetarian option. Otherwise, nice wee cafe and the food was yummy

Had the french toast with bacon and it was delicious! So much flavour and sweetness, absolutely brilliant. The coffee was a little on the colder side but still completely drinkable! In fact that meant it got downed in under 10 minutes because it still tasted delicious! Nice warm, welcoming and enthusiastic staff!

Their sandwich is my top 3 in Edinburgh... it brought me to New York when I had a first bite.. and could not think of anything else but moan for a joy!

I had a breakfast with my daughter and it was delicious. The coffee shop is bright, clean and the staff and friendly and welcoming. It had a lovely laid back atmosphere. My daughter had sourdough toast with peanut butter, maple syrup and banana. She said it was really nice but couldn't eat it all as it was such a big portion. I had the (vegan) sausage and bacon roll which was really tasty. We had a fruit smoothie and Cappuccino for drinks which were both great. Can't wait to go again to try the other options.

This is my number one place for vegan breakfast and sandwiches. They also do amazing cakes. Everything I have had so far was delicios and coffee is fantastic too. I always go there when I'm in Edinburgh. Best tofu scramble!

Been here before when non vegan...and enjoyed. Now vegan think our choice of sausage roll not a great one...wouldn't repeat...tasted like cardboard..roll was fine.. Staff lovely and friendly..place very clean.. Would go back but would try something else.. A little on the exp side for what it is..

This place is the best - Such good vegan croissants and the staff are super nice. People say the service is slow but its probably only because its always busy because of how good it is... I've never had a problem with their service times and they're aways friendly, welcoming and always tasty food. One of my favourites in Edinburgh

Popped in for the first time today. Great selection of cakes, coffees and teas. The rolls looked great. Need to go back to try them for lunch soon.

Called in to do some work on my laptop, had a lovely cup of coffee (their standard milk is oat and my latte was super tasty), and a cinnamon swirl to compliment it. It was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. Would recommend and will be going back again! Prices were very affordable too, about a fiver for my little treat and the coffee.

I have visited this café a number of times since moving to Edinburgh and always get warm, friendly service and lovely coffees and teas. When I first visited, I wasn’t aware that it was a vegan café but I have enjoyed the opportunity to try new things here! Due to the pandemic and the restrictions on the amount of customers, I get the impression they don’t really like people to spend too long studying or working over a coffee (especially over lunchtime), but this seems fair enough given the difficulties and challenges facing small businesses at the moment. Definitely pop in and support this place!

Get home to open my Cappuccino to see a latte inside. Will probably give this place a miss going forward. Also got charged for a large but received a small. The chai latte I ordered separately was okay.

Nice vegan cafe with excellent coffee and super friendly staff. Nice big window and simple decor that could use some upgrading. Poor ventilation - in colder months the windows are covered in steam.

My partner and I came here on our first day in Edinburgh and found a lovely little cafe with great vibes and food. We wanted to go back later in the week but ran out of time. Their breakfast rolls are delicious, very well priced and huge!!! Highly recommend if in Edinburgh but maybe book ahead in the current COVID climate.

The blueberry croissant was so good! Fluffy and light pastry with a perfect amount of blueberry filling. It tasted amazing! We were visiting from Birmingham U.K. so won’t be back soon, but hopefully one day! :)

Popped in with a friend as we were passing. Coffee turned into lunch and then dessert too! All excellent. Artisan feel to the place, very nice to sit and relax. Turns out everything is vegan, which we were not aware of when we made our choice, but really we considered it 'the cherry on the cake'! Can't believe I used to live just nearby and had never been in.

Vegan caffè & environmental friendly. The food is really good and the shop is quite cosy and bright. The prices are normal for a vegan coffe shop. They offer breakfast and lunch options and they care about fair trade and local foods. I really enjoyed going there so I recommend it 100%!

Lo encontré un poco denso y necesitaba un poco más de glaseado, pero en general estaba feliz.Me compré un brownie en otra ocasión que no era de mi gusto personal, ¡no era lo suficientemente chocolateado para mí!

Sentarme y hacer algunas reseñas cuando encontré las fotos de la deliciosa comida que he tenido durante los últimos meses.Fui a un maravilloso brunch aquí en noviembre con un amigo. Todo el personal era educado y amable, los precios eran muy razonables (encuentro algunos otros cafés en Edimburgo son muy caros) y la comida era exuberante. Tuve la tostada francesa con arce, facón y plátanos, seguido de un chocolate caliente y un DELICIOSO trozo de tarta de chocolate.¡Definitivamente regresaré para otra deliciosa comida cuando esté en Edimburgo para ver amigos!
