Chaplins in Chichester

We found this place when house hunting for our holiday home. Very friendly place and made us feel welcome. We've been in a few times now and lovely that they remember us each time. Highly recommended

Came on a Wednesday, never been to Selsy before, was hard to tell if they were open or not to begin with. Very dark inside and small, good decorations though. I personally didn't like the mocha I had, tasted very weird, they didn't have any brown bread at all, only white bread which is very old fashioned. Definitely won't return for that reason. Menu needs to be brought into 2023.

Really pleased to find such a great place to eat in Selsey. It is ideal for what we were looking for - a light lunch with some treats for afterwards. The service was excellent. We were served very quickly. When my daughter accidentally knocked the table spilling my coffee, without being asked the waiter very swiftly wiped it up and came back with my coffee in a clean, larger cup. The food - we had prawn jacket potato and prawn sandwich - was great. There was a group enjoying an afternoon tea and that looked superb. We will definitely be back.

Visited for a stop off for refreshment. Tried the milkshakes. Tasty but would select small or medium next time. Some outside seating available.

Whilst visiting selsey, we popped in for a coffee and my husband, who is a coffee aficionado, rated their coffee as notably good!

Fab place, very clean and a great choice of milk shake. By far the best milkshake in sussex. Also a good selection of lunchtime food. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Have been there many times now!

It is a long time since I wrote a review. Since then, Hannah and Lee have moved things up quite a few notches. The shakes are still very moreish and they have kept the waffles, nachos and toasted sandwiches, but now bake their own scones, tray bakes, cakes and other delicious goodies. Flapjacks are a must. Sandwiches excellent. However we booked the Vintage afternoon tea for my Mum's 95th birthday. You have to book, don't expect to turn up and get the afternoon tea. However, it was exceptional. Hannah and Lee really pushed out the boat. Our sandwiches were tasty with a huge variety. Scones with jam and cream yummy (and if like me you are not a fan of dehydrated grapes, they will bake plain scones with advance notice). By this point we were getting quite stuffed, but managed the lemon posset. Delicious. With no space left for any more goodies, Hannah boxed up the cakes and we enjoyed them the next day. This was all served up with a bottomless pot of tea and on vintage china. JamesD's June visit which was less than complimentary, do not let that put you off. I believe I was in Chaplins at the same time. Hannah and her staff were trying very hard to accommodate his requests. I was only there for the final half an hour. I don't think I would want him in my establishment. But to get back to the positives, I visit 3-4 times a week, sometimes for coffee and cake and other times for a light lunch. I have never been disappointed. The place is always clean, and if they are really busy and have not had time to clean the table before you sit, they will always come and clean the table for you.

Great location in Selsey High Street and their Little Shake Shop was very popular with those wanting a takeaway ice cream or something else sweet. Our 16 month old grandson was not going to let us walk past without popping in and buying ice creams at a very reasonable price. The interior was worth a photo by itself.

Staff are rude and have no manners food quality is awful tables were sticky and dirty do not recommend

They make the best milkshakes the flavours are so great! Anything you could think of putting in a milkshake they have and are so amazing! When they say they are thick they are right! I live in London and every summer I come down to Selsey and chaplins is a must, we always plan a visit (or two) when we are down this way! Great staff and place cya next year!

This is lovely little coffee shop with amazing milk shakes. My daughter spent a happy couple of hours in here revising for her A levels whilst enjoying their fab iced coffees and coke floats!

Popped in for a coffee and tea-cake on a cycle-tour of the area.....was looking for another cafe, but glad I found Chaplin's instead.

This was my first visit here great toasted sandwiches and coffee . Prices are reasonable. The down side was they were closing at 2 fora private event. The staff were great. So worth a visit.

Had a cappuccino and two shakes for the kids on Monday, service was great and the coffee is better than Costa. Went back again today for another coffee!

Visited this place daily during our 3 week stay in Selsey, always great service, gets busy at times with locals which is a sign of a good eatery. Owner and staff are very attentive. We usually had coffee and tea cake in the morning. And occasionally one of their pancake specials for lunch or afternoon tea, really nice, makes an ordinary day special. There is good inside seating with some outside as well, definitely worth a visit.

Visited with my niece for a milkshake on bank holiday Sunday. Great shakes and great service. Staff really nice and informative about other shops in Selsey.

Called in on the way back from a long walk, the ice cream is gorgeous and not bad prices. Friendly service too.

The town isn’t the best place for dog-friendly establishments, so this used to be a regular stop off for us on dog walks in Selsey. Unfortunately, it appears to have changed hands and the main seating area has not been open on the last two...

Despite the wonderful decor, it's hard to ignore the fact that on the day we visited with our 2 girls there was nothing available for a Coeliac (Gluten Free). Coffee was nice as were the staff but for us a disappointing visit

Stopped here on a rainy Saturday, the menu is limited and a little pricey for what you get, cake was a little dry and definitely bought in mass produced and I suspect that the ham and cheese toasty was the same as they were unable...

the atmosphere is great nothing is too much bother very courteous staff, even when they are run off their feet. this also doubles as the theatre snack bar and bar for when shows are on in the old cinema

Popped in as an after school treat with my children, friendly staff and an amazing amount of various milkshakes! We of course all had a different shake to try and enjoyed each of them, fab treat shack for all.

Visited for the first time to see family who have just moved to Selsey.

I have been visiting Chaplins since they opened and have always liked it. It is a lovely “family” run establishment. Started out with ice creams and superb milk shakes but now have extended to coffee, cake and toastie’s. All of which are delicious. Their Carrot Cake is, by far, the best I have ever tasted. The staff are lovely, always remember my coffee order and are very efficient. Every friend or family member that I take there agree with me. Add to the that the lovely decor and the fact that it is at the front of the original Selsey Picture House building, (Where they still screen the occasional Film) they are certainly one of the best in Selsey. Keep up the good work and I will be trying the new salted Caramel Cake on my next visit.

Well this little place never disappoints! Staff are really friendly, helpful and efficient. Place is lovely and clean including the toilets. Food and drink is all of good quality and fresh. Does not take cards though but Bank very close.

When I previously reviewed Chaplains I had not tried the Ice cream or shakes.. Now I wish I hadn't. They are so delicious it is difficult to walk past and not have one. The list of shakes is extensive and I already have my three favourites (yes Three!!!).

Nice Coffee, great Shakes and good for a mid day snack. Have been several times and enjoy. Would highly recommend.

Friendly, quick service, good menu. Spacious seating, and kept really clean whilst customers came and went. Good atmosphere with quirky Chaplin's memorabilia. Amazing ice creams and milkshakes! Would recommend.

Came here whilst staying in Selsey with family. My kids loved the milkshakes and smoothies. Lovely clean place if a little pricey. Should be able to pay with your card though, oy cash taken.

Sat for ages before getting served and then took ages to get ice cream. Not the best. Could have been cleaner as well and they should invest in more lights as it's really dark and dingy as it was beautiful outside 😒😒😒

Fabulous so glad we found it. Superior coffee, gorgeous cakes, menu that meets all needs and staff that were so welcoming and helpful, oh what a hidden treasure.

We booked to take my 9 year old Daugter here for her birthday with her friends. The staff where friendly and so helpful they decorated the table up and reserved a table. They made my Daugter feel very special and all her friends feel so grown up. Milkshakes and ice cream went down a treat and great coffee for all us adults. Will defiantly go again.

Popped into this cafe (a former cinema) for a bite to eat - limited food other than cakes and toasties/paninis but great coffee at this family run coffee house. Extensive milkshake menu with every milkshake you can imagine. A couple of seats are old cinema drop down chairs which is fun. Reasonable prices. Parking around the corner in a pay and display car park. Need to pay by cash.

This is a lovely cosy coffee house that is family run they make lovely coffee/hot chocolate and milkshakes

In summer I found this place. They do the best range of milkshakes going and they are very tasty and very pleasant. Good value for money. Will keep returning.

Cosy little coffee and tea shop with efficient and very friendly staff. We didn't get to sample the cakes or scones but they looked appetising. We had the ice cream in old fashioned waffle cones and the portions served were very generous. The atmosphere is very inviting and pleasant to sit inside or the small seated area outside the café. A short but gratifying visit.

Loved it here! The staff are all so nice and friendly. I love the old cinema setting. It's definitely what Selsey needs. I come here every year on holiday and to see this go from a small milkshake shop to a full blown coffee house is a testiment to the owners hard work and support of the lovely locals around town. I'd recommend anyone visiting Selsey pay them a visit. Just wish they would expand to my home town!

A great range of ice cream flavours proved very popular, I think we nearly tried them all! The shakes are also out of this world, made from your favourite chocolate bar - yummy. Service was good and the facilities excellent. Best cafe in Selsey.

The best spot in town ! Always visit when I'm in selsey! Great staff, always smiling and a great selection of yummy treats !!! Prices are really great for the product and the service you receive ! Get yourselves in there !

The best fruit scones I have ever had. Warm, just out of the oven. Plenty of butter to go with them. Charlie (who made them) was charming. The other waitresses were smiling and pleasant. Price very fair. Will be returning.

Had the most delicious banana waffle today. Probably the best waffle I've had in years. Service was friendly and very accommodating for kids. Highly recommend you stop by if you're in town.

The young lady was very nice and attentive, Coffee was ok and much cheaper then normal coffee chains. Very relaxing surroundings, Will be going back soon.

I visited here to meet an old friend for a catch up and it's a lovey little addition to the village. At times it got quite busy so my only criticism is that it could be bigger but the coffee is fab and the staff were really friendly!

So much to chose from! Delicious and addictive thick shakes made with ice cream and a whole list of chocolate to choose from to go into your shake- Oreo is a must to try!) also does smaller shakes for young children at a reasonable price. We love the coffee too. Large selection of cakes, ice creams, Sunday's and waffles. The staff are lovely and always try to advise our fussy family. We used to visit when chaplains was a small take away shake shop, they have expanded and now have a large sit down area with the take away at the side of the shop. If there's a cue stay in line it's worth the wait !

Love this place, staff always happy to help and smiling, very well priced, good quality cakes and best tasting coffee, staff are always cleaning when quiet, nice to have something different in the village other then a cafe!! Chaplin coffee shop is the place to go with the brilliant Sundaes and tasty waffles specials would recommend a visit every time.

I came down for a long weekend and decided to stop into Chaplins for a quick coffee, here I was warmly welcomed and everyone was so polite and happy to help. I was very satisfied with my coffee and also treated myself to indulge in one of their many milkshakes. Will definitely be coming back with more family members to tackle one of their sundaes.

Too expensive, grumpy staff, small. Just mot for me there are too many cafes in selsey now. So I would of thought if this newish cafe wanted a good name, compete with the others, do something a bit bettet

This little coffee shop (and occasional performance venue) has opened up in an old cinema. Only useing the foyer and ticket entrance area, they have left in details such as the doorway and stairs to the balcony, so giving the venue a delightful and interesting intera. They do a lovely selection milkshakes, coffees, cakes etc. and is a must to visit if you are ever in Selsey.

Chaplins does great coffee, but we were most impressed with the milkshakes. Fantastic choice, and generous with the ice cream. We will be returning!

One of the best places in Selsey for coffee and a nice sit down. Lovely cakes and extensive menu of icecream and shakes (although we haven't tried any of them yet). Also dog friendly. Staff very efficient and clean the tables as soon as a customer leaves.
