Chao Phraya in Glasgow City

I had high hopes for this restaurant as I heard nothing but great things from . The positives were the green curry was amazing and the look of restaurant was pretty cool . To be honest that’s the only positives I had from my experience. I had booked a table of 6 for a birthday lunch and me and partner turned up early , we were treated by a waitress who rudely asked “ is there actually the 6 of yous “. Immediately that was not a great first impression and afterwards we experienced painfully slow service , for example by the time the other guests arrived , we waited about 8 minutes before we could give our drinks order . The food was extremely over priced such as 10 pound for a 3 piece dumbling starter. To top that we waited a good 50 minutes between starter and main . Since it was for my girlfriends birthday , we brought in a cake to surprise her , but one of the waiters brought a big knife to the table and small plates , ruining the surprise instantly and by time the cake was brought out , it made the experience more awkward. For those reasons , I will not be coming back to the restaurant

Honestly do not get where the poor reviews come from. We have been to this restaurant as a couple many times and always received 5 star service and food. I don’t do a lot of reviews but after seeing the poor ones felt I needed to. We are always greeted and taken to our table, drinks/food always been perfect. This is our first choice for a nice dinner and Glasgow is our favourite Chaophraya ❤️

Absolutely fantastic meal. I had the beef penang with egg fried rice. My server, Lang, was very friendly and attentive and did a great job.

A lovely meal with lots of interesting flavours. A wide choice. Ribs, chicken satay, Thai food. Excellent service and friendly helpful staff.

Came here with my partner for a fancy pre-valentines dinner. Unfortunately there was no vegetarian protein (tofu, fake chicken! available on the menu and we weren’t informed of this until our orders were being taken. I feel like we should have been informed at the reception upon arrival, as this essentially meant there was no vegetarian menu available. We both settled for a butternut squash red curry which was just absolutely fine. Not at all what either of us wanted, but basically all we could have . Service felt rushed. Within three minutes of sitting down we were being asked for drink and food orders. Dessert menus arrived, and within 90 seconds someone was there to take the order (which we never bothered with) overall, the entire dining experience was done in 35 minutes. So much for a nice relaxing sit-down meal with my partner. Felt like we were in the way despite it not being overly busy.

Went for afternoon tea with high hopes as we thought it would be different to the usual afternoon tea. At £35 per head did not expect to come away underwhelmed. The food was excellent - really tasty but the portions are small and there is a lack of variety in the offering. Two of everything mini rather than 10 different things. and then the service, there were plenty of staff and 4 tables including us in the bit we were in but attentive it was not. It took 4 attempts to get water for example. It turned into a game to attract anyone's attention. I have an allergy to chocolate and the single stand of food came with the chocolate brownies on a separate plate because they are really chocolatey but I was not to eat the coffee and walnut cake as that also had chocolate on it. However that somehow was ok to bring on the same plate as my non chocolate carrot cake? luckily for me my allergy is one of chocolate - migraines so i am not so allergic that this caused me an issue but still really odd thinking. The bill was also wrong and it took a while for our inexperienced server to get any help to sort it. bless her, she was very apologetic but we saw her trying to resolve the issue and looking for someone to help. The restaurant is a little underwhelming but that is not helped by lots of jobs being left half done. tables are cleared to nearby ledges and cleaning cloths and spray left on the table; pitchers of water left on the backs of booths, old packing materials left lying around, no handwash in the toilets. it just generally felt like no one cared enough.

Restaurant was cold and waited ages for wine and meal and not the cheapest restaurant. No dedicated waiters. Atmosphere and lighting awful!

From arrival, the tone was set from the unwelcoming or uninterested girl on the reception desk Seated and the waited at least 10 min before a drink order was taken, and they couldn't get 3 drinks right Food, we were totally underwhelmed with every dish ordered No call back to ask if everything was OK with our food for such a grand restaurant. The food and service certainly did not compliment it Final straw was bottle water on bill that we never received, and a £14 service charge that I have to say did not merit it, I am very generous towards restaurant staff as I really appreciate when they do a good job I am disappointed, and I will not recommend or return to this restaurant

Visited Saturday 3rd Feb (4 of us) and decided to have a drink in the bar first. As noted in other reviews, the bar is on the tired side but was reasonably busy so we were directed to the side room just off the bar to the left. There were 2 free tall tables pushed together and about 9 stools scattered at random around these. I asked the young waiter to re-arrange the tables into 2 (as there were only 4 of us) but he said that there was a big party in the dining room and that they would be coming back. In other words, he just could not be bothered lifting a finger and I didn't see why I as a customer should either. The atmosphere in the bar is non-existent and the table service is glacial. We had a reasonable meal although I think adding 12.5% discretionary service charge is way too much. On returning to the bar we thought our luck was in as we managed to secure the tall table right in front of the bar which you would have thought at 9.30pm on a Saturday night would maybe have a bit of buzz / sophistication. Not a bit of it. The room was cold (evidenced by visible free standing heating units on the floor) and there was no attempt to create ambiance by lighting the candles which were sitting on the tables. However worse was to follow. My unwilling waiter from before the meal suddenly appeared adjacent to our table pulling a dirty wooden trolley laden with stock to replenish the bar and for the next 20 minutes we were treated to shrink wrapped pallets of mixers and the clank of bottles being unloaded and passed over to the barman. Even after all the stock had been unloaded, the trolley was left sat right bang in the middle of the bar for a good 15 minutes. Surely this should all be done after closing time, not "peak" time on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is one thing but whoever has responsibility for the bar needs to take an immediate look at how to make it more appealing and to give customers a better experience. If you are dining here, my strong advice to you is to avoid the bar at all costs and to have your pre and post dinner drinks elsewhere.

Arrived early so we were directed to the bar to wait for our table. The bar area was very dull and tired. We had a look at the menu while we were in the bar and ordered straight away when we went into the restaurant. We waited ages for our starter. We ordered the sharing platter which was priced at £13 on the menu. We were then charged £13 each for it. It certainly was not worth £26 and I thought this was very misleading. My husband waited a very long time for his pint of beer. We were served our main courses and were not given plates or spoons to dish out our meals. We had to ask twice before getting them. We were then charged a 12.5% service charge which we did not pay as the service was poor. Won't be rushing back. Very disappointed. This used to be one of our favourite restaurants.

This restaurant has went downhill. I went at lunchtime but had a voucher from black Friday deal. I was only allowed to buy from al cart. Fair enough, but our meals were lunch time sizes but al cart price. I also feel our meal from al cart menu was second rate and greasy. I had four prawns only in prawn pad Thai. I was still hungry yet I was charged al cart price. I no longer rate this restaurant highly.

Visited with family for a long overdue catch up. We were promptly taken to our pre-booked table, but unfortunately from then on the service was poor and very slow. After a long wait with not even a drinks order taken we managed to attract the waitresses attention to place our order. The drinks then arrived quickly but we waited a long time for the starter to arrive. Unfortunately the waitress got our order wrong so we only had 2 starters between 4. After being in the restaurant for an hour and forty minutes our main courses arrived, by which time we were very hungry. We had ordered prawn crackers as well but to that point hadn’t received any so asked again for them. They appeared within 2 minutes. We were contemplating ordering deserts but thought better of it as we had trains to catch and were doubtful they would arrive in time. The food was nice but the very slow service and lack of communication from the staff would make me think twice about visiting again. Overall very disappointed.

Service was dreadfully slow, with no communication or apology from wait staff as to why it was taking so long. There were a lot of wait staff, and there seemed to be ample staff in the kitchen, as we could see the kitchen from where we sat. Most of the food was tasty, but I had ordered Thai Green curry with tofu as a vegetarian alternative - the tofu was simply cut up and thrown in, uncooked. It is hard to get tofu to taste really good when you do cook it, so having just raw tofu is definitely not palatable. Deeply disappointed with this, especially as this was a birthday dinner for my partner. Very pricey for what we got and left feeling hungry.

Love this place but this is my second time for my anniversary and it was such a lovely night. Our server was a doll and I'm sorry I didn't catch his name, May was so attentive filling our glasses and as usual food was spot on.

Requested a take away, and it was fantastic food; everything excellent. Prepared in just over 10 minutes, came with all the accessories you could with for in a take way (including hand wipes). Staff couldn't have been nicer. 5 stars, great quality all round :-)
