Changthai restaurant at Bishop Auckland in County Durham

Nice food and welcoming atmosphere however the resteraunt was below a comfortable temperature and the drinks prices were horrendous. I'm all for making a reasonable profit but a markup of 266% on a bottle of beer is overly extravagant. If you wish to dine here you will probably enjoy the experience just leave the drinks alone.

Called in on spec, was due to eat somewhere else, but they weren’t open…so happy to have given this restaurant a go. Staff were wonderfully polite and helpful, food was excellent and reasonably priced. Took advantage of the 2 course lunchtime special. Not from Bishop, but next time I’m in the area will definitely eat there.

Unreal Thai food, the parents haven’t ate Thai before so we got a few different dishes to try and they were huge plates. Mixed starter was delicious, great portion and great if you are like me and want a bit of everything. We also got pineapple fried rice that came with battered prawn and chicken. Duck fried rice, pla raad pirk, pirk thai dum seafood, chicken pad thai which of course is a must have. Was the best sea bass I’ve ever had and my dad and fiancé were huge fans of the squid. Very happy with the quick friendly service provided too.

Wonderful gem of a restaurant. I have visited on a few occasions and the food has always been lovely. the staff are a delight, very polite and welcoming. have visited for the lunchtime special and it is very good value. I will most certainly be back.

Fabulous Thai food cooked to order and served by super efficient, friendly staff. Everything prepared freshly and served piping hot.

This place is always a great place to eat. Tonight we had crispy squid and thai fishcake starters, both full of flavour, then beef penang and chicken pad prik pra kao. Friendly and efficient service with a smile. PS the seafood is great too

Excellent small Tai Restaurant just off the main square by Bishop Auckland castle. Friendly staff, good service and plenty of menu options. Very good choices of Vegetarian and Vegan dishes. Standard of cuisine very high. One of the best Tai’s we’ve had. Very reasonable prices. Lovely experience all round.

It is Rare to be Disappointed : We haven't been for a While. Bushop Auckland offers much more choice of Quisine, thus we gave Chang Thai a Trial. The Main Course was indeed Delicious : We Chose a platter for Two. Ample Variety was thoroughly enjoyed & reasonably priced Too. Regrettably : Perhaps we were forgotten, having sat downstairs in the Reception Bar. It was Early Doors, Evening, when we arrived : A long wait was a 'Bridge too far'. The Sea Bass was Crisp & Delicious, but not so for the 'Red Thai Beef'. Sadly, a rather tasteless dish with particularly Tough Meat : I felt I was chewing 'The Reef'. In Fairness, to Compensate, a Fiver was knocked off the Bill.. Still Winter : Rather Cold near the Window ; we certainly felt the Chill.

Visited on New Year's Eve. Once we were sitting at our table, we waited 25 mins before we were asked what drinks we wanted. The restaurant was very busy with only 2 staff waiting on. We then waited a further 15 mins to order our food, which took what seemed forever to arrive. Furthermore, 45 mins after our starter we received our main course. We ordered ice cream but gave up after 30 mins, paid our bill, and left without. From what I could see and hear, we weren't the only ones to be dissatisfied with the service. On a positive note, the food is lovely, as are the staff.

Had the chance to eat at this restaurant whilst visiting the area. Fantastic value lunch time meal starter and main for under £11. Food was excellent, restaurant busy but not crowded or tables cramped together. Wish we were local as would definitely eat there again. Recommend

Two started and two mains for less than £11 each was excellent value for money. The food was very good. Chicken satay and Thai fish cakes for starters were both full of flavour. Masson and Penang curries for mains were both excellent not so hot that you couldn’t get to appreciated the flavours of the other ingredients and spices.
