Lovely meal excellent service. Very busy but still managed to keep everyone fed in reasonable time.

We arrived and asked for a table, although we hadn't booked we were able to get seated with a small wait so it was nice of the staff to accommodate us. The service was really good although a bit strange that we had 4 or 5 different staff check on us, everyone was really nice, helpful and polite. Food and atmosphere was very typical of what you expect from a decent pub, no complaints but nothing special. We did come for Sunday roast but it had sold out by the time we got there, our own fault really as we probably arrived around 5.15pm but was still a little disappointed. All in all, not a bad place to eat out.

Recommended by a very helpful assistant in the B&M store, and they were not wrong. Could not have asked for better service and food even when they were rushed off their feet with a full pub of customers. Thanks to all in the Craven Arms.

Can't fault this great bar, great food and also a fantastic choice of beers, fantastic menu and food as stated. We were recommended to try this restaurant and were happy to find it lived up to the reviews we were given, the staff are very friendly and very attentive and helpful and more than happy to go that extra mile no matter how busy the bar gets. Well done guys.

The haggis, neeps and tatties here were delicious and they have some great ales on tap too.

The portions are massive. If you are having a starter, you're not having a dessert! Overall the food is fantastic and to top it off, Belhaven Best on draught! Look at my other reviews to see where I've been!

Every time I come to the caverns, I am always impressed with the quality and freshess of the food, tastes amazing the staff are fantastic. Well worth a visit I don't think you will be disappointed 🙂

The service was good despite being busy, with a great selection of tasty food.

Great for food. Serves a range of classic pub dishes which are nicely done with a few quirky specials. Range of steaks, burgers but also good lasagna, fish etc. Some veggie and vegan options,Generous portions (don't have a starter if you even want to contemplate pudding and you may struggle with to get there even if you just have a main). Reasonably priced cost only a few quid more than the 'Spoons up the road but better quality and bigger portions. Great choice of real ales (worthy CAMRA best pub in Dumfries in the past) but more a pub for eating than drinking in. On-line booking for tables I'd recommend especially for weekend as this is very popular place to eat

Really tasty home cooked food. Well worth diverting off route on our way home from Glasgow for. Good selection of whisky and real ale. Spotlessly clean.

Great place with fabby staff, Michelle should be promoted just for her warmth and professional service, a great barperson and really good member of staff. A joy to speak to and great at her job!!

As a vegetarian it was good to see more choices on the menu would like it if there was some on the Specials menu too only thing was with being in a wheelchair and the table was sat at there was such a cold draft.

The cavens is one of the best restaurants in Dumfries and Galloway, the food is beautiful the atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are outstanding, I highly recommend this restaurant.

I would say booking is a must. We had a party of 9. If we did not book, we would not have got in. Great atmosphere in here for a Sunday tea time. The tables were full. The food was very good, and gluten-free options were available. I had the fillet of pork and creamy whiskey sauce with chunky chips and veg off the Christmas menu. Very delicious. And to top it off gluten-free Christmas pudding with ice cream. Service was good and staff were very friendly and helpful. Good place to go for food.

We hit lucky while looking for somewhere to have an early dinner while on a stopover in Dumfries. Tasty very fresh traditional pub meals and a menu of real ales. The pub was doing a well deserved roaring trade on an early weeknight evening in November.

Brilliant pub with dining , probably the best in Dumfries & Galloway. The staff are great, Hi to Wayne behind the bar, always a good choice of wines, beers and real ales. The food is outstanding, we have the highland steak everytime. We only stay in Dumfries every 3 yrs or so, but always get in here at least once.

First time here and was not disappointed. Food and service was very good. Highly recommend it.

Stopped for lunch on a Sunday while visiting Dumfries. Friendly staff who looked after us. The food was amazing with really decent portion size and reasonably priced. Drinks were good as well with a good selection of draught ales, again reasonably priced. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to returning.

We recently popped in for a drink here but were completely ignored in spite of there being 2 bar staff and only one person being served. We’re a mixed race couple and stood right in front of the barmaid for several minutes while she spoke to a friend of hers, avoiding eye contact with us. The barman also did not even acknowledge us. When another person then came up to the bar she served them immediately. Clearly we were not welcome and left, heading to the Preston park tavern, with a much better welcome and atmosphere. Avoid the Cleveland Arms, there are so many better pubs in Brighton.

After my most recent visit I have just upped the review to 5 star. Great to see a place that has been in the same hands for years striving to improve further. Have never had a bad meal here but the latest experience was so much better than before homemade chips and a proper flamegrilled burger. Very reasonably priced drinks means that the final bill was a lot less than expected which was an added bonus. A variety on the menu meant all were catered for.

Went on the 1st of October because it was my 25th birthday, I had booked a table since about a week before when we went in was met with a bad vibe all the staff look very grumpy and don’t know how to smile when serving or dealing with customers. On top of this my friend had ordered a mac and cheese served with chips so when it came after waiting 55 mins since ordering honestly they had just thrown a lot of cheese over the top to hide the fact that the mac and cheese was more like soup because it was very watery when called over staff the ‘owner’ got very rude with my friend because all she was stating was that no way they should be charged £12 for meal if it’s not meeting it’s standards so owners tone changed and started to call my friend rude even tho she was not being so owner also continued to say that we was the reason hospitality is going down hill I was so shocked to be spoken to like that even tho owner was not happy to do so he took the meal of the receipt but we was still paying almost £50 for some drinks and some sides which we did cover. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT AVOID AT ALL COST!!

We called in for lunch without booking. We were well received and taken to our table . Drinks ordered and meals ordered. Everything was first class, service , food and drinks. The place is spotlessly clean and all the staff very friendly, polite and professional. Certainly a ‘gem’ in Dumfries not to miss. Thanks everyone.

Food is incredible as over three nights I worked out they served 42 starters main courses and sweets and not one complaint - staff brilliant !!!

Having looked around Dumfries for somewhere for an ad hoc meal we came across this place and were blown away. The menu had a lot of choice for food and drink, the staff were great and the prices were good too. Definitely recommended

What a lovely pub this is. Hubby and I are staying 3 nights in Dumfries and were recommended to eat here. So glad we did. The food was delicious and portion sizes huge. We both felt terrible because we couldn't finish it all. 🙈 The staff were polite and very efficient. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to all the staff.🤩👍

Lunch at Cavens Arms for group of 13 people was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. There were variety of food in their menu to choose from. All the food ordered were plentiful and excellent. The service was excellent as well.

Came here on a whim for a break during a drive back down to Manchester, and it was a fantastic pub to relax. Top service, great food!

We called in here on Sunday evening, as recommended by our hotel owner. Despite not having booked we were found a table. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, especially Sylvia. Food was so reasonably priced and was delicious.

Great pub good food plenty to choose from and good gluten free options fast service chips we’re home made and it was a good portion beer was nice also thanks guys

Great place to eat. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was also nice and local so you feel very comfortable. Portions were large and worth the money. The team were kind enough to box the leftover food since our eyes were MUCH bigger than our bellies. Would certainly recommend if you're ever in Dumfries.

You never get a bad meal in here. Always tasty and reasonable value for money.

Firstly I will say that there wasn’t a problem with the food or the service for that matter,but the problem lies in the price! We had three main meals and two soft drinks and it came to over £50! The prices they are charging are quality restaurant night time prices, not for a lunch in a pub!! Must be the most expensive pub food in the country! Won’t be heading back any time soon.

Every time we visit Dumfries, we book a table at Cavens and order our usual: haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. My partner was looking at the ale menu and, one of the members of staff, a young lad, was very helpful as my partner could not decide what to have. It was a choice between two ales, and this lad explained the difference between the two, the one he would recommend first. We wish we had asked his name as he was so helpful. The food was superb as always!

Lovely place, this was my 2nd visit. I suggest booking if you wish to eat as it was fully booked. Made do with a perfect pint of real ale! I will visit again and strongly recommend a visit.

What a find! We where staying locally for a few days and popped into Dumfries for a bite to eat and drink . The staff are super friendly, food excellent and everything ( including toilets) where spotless. You can see why this pub has won numerous awards. Highly recommend if you are in Dumfries!!

Good food in a friendly environment. Quick service too. We had the the scampi and the smothered chicken followed by sticky toffee and the fudge cake. All really good.

We were told this is the best pub in Dumfries, and we would agree. The food was excellent. Our first night we arrived without a reservation, but they squeezed us in. Attentive service, great food (especially the new potatoes!) and large portions. We then made reservations for Sunday night and thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roast.

Booked table for one on a Tuesday at 6:45 and it was packed which is a good indicator of quality. I ordered Criffel Chicken which I waited 20 minutes for which was fair. Food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back

Lovely friendly staff and nice food and drink

Was quite busy but we got to wait at the bar and they took our order in advance of getting a table. The food was delicious! Creamy mac cheese, chipper style chips and rustic garlic bread which was slighty overcooked. Staff were fairly polite considering how busy. Overall excellent!

Having visited this great place twice on hoiday last Autumn decided without hesitation to book whilst on holiday this year, it was on a Friday and was extremely busy, (lucky we had booked) however food, staff and service were excellent just like last time a...

Was their yesterday and can honestly say my meal was awful. How on earth can they charge £10.95 for a half portion of lasagne and chips? Lasagne was tasteless along with maybe 15 chips. Certainly will never be back. Just walk up the road and you’ll get a better meal
