Catterick Village Fisheries in Richmondshire

We seem to have been extremely unlucky; we rang and pre-ordered and the lady who answered was very friendly and helpful. When we arrived the fish and chips were ready and again the lady was friendly. Sadly, the fish and chips were very disappointing; the batter was hard and the fish was grey and tasteless. I suspect we had been given the leftover fish from the previous evening.

I've been using this chip shop almost every single weekend for a year and it is absolutely fantastic. The haddock is large and always cooked perfectly - the chips are superb. The staff simply cannot be beaten. Always happy and smiling with a fun attitude towards work and their customers. I simply cannot fault this chippy!

Had cod n chips and mushy peas Lovely crispy batter and fish moist and white. Ample chips to dip in the small mushy peas. Sure it was £7.15p....bit expensive?

Brilliant family run chippy with helpful, friendly staff. Placed my order for 5.30pm they were running 5 minutes late but who cares, so worth the wait. Delicious haddock, flaky and cooked to perfection with crispy light batter, it's worth the 40 minute round trip all day long. My little boy loves the fish cakes and the kids deals are great value for money. Not sure what else you would be looking for in a local chippy. Well done guys 10/10 all day long

The only fish and chip shop that serves ONLY HADDOCK iv e ever heard of ordered 4 cod and chips by telephone collect in 45 minutes order confirmed by staff when order collected. Told they only serve haddock being Hungary accepted the meals and left should have stopped at the first waste bin fish overcooked nearly non existent. Dry and hard stuck to nearly black batter. Chips well no comment under new management I heard. My advise find another proprietor and take cooking lessons then buy another fish and chip shop far away.

What a great chippy, grab a takeaway, find a bench next to the beck and a few beers from the local. Local chippy with the most picturesque outdoor dining in North Yorkshire....

Fish chips and mushy peas. What more can you ask for. Very nicely cooked, batter on the fish is well made, light and crispy. Portion of chips is quite small compared to other fish and chip shops around Richmond and Catterick. Very nice though.

Visited for Saturday lunch as part of a quiet and considerate Hen weekend, to get away from our children and needed a good dose of carbs and grease, which we got as a large batch. Fantastic customer service! Had a giggle. Sandie said of the fish "it is first taste, firm and flaky! 5 stars!" Steph enjoyed her large battered sausage, declining the offer of the foot long job.

What a little goldmine. Excellent value for money, huge portions and quality product. It can't exactly be called fast food because of the length of the queues at the shop.

I had an excellent trip to Catterick UK for a wedding and loved this place, great food and hotels excellent country side with great views.

For acting above what was normally expected our team was told we were getting a fish n chip lunch.On the day, we phoned our order through and shortly after I collected it.I was met in the fish shop by two of the most cheery people I've had the pleasure to meet. They asked under what name the order was placed to which I didn't know, so I was given 3 chances to get it right, otherwise no chips!!! 3rd guess got me my order, and after a further banter I returned to work.The order itself was 3x fish n chips, 1x fish and 1x sausage n chips. This order could easily have fed a further 2 people, biblical proportions!!And it tasted devine.Top food, good portions and a good price, added to the banter provided by the girls, a top meal.My advice, if you get the chance, call in.

Popped in tonight for usual fish and chips and not sure if they have a new owner because it was terrible Got the dinner home very carefully and opened it up. The fish was very small and asked and paid for large. All broken up and like mush. The chips half cooked. The mushy peas very watery and no seasoning at all. Exactly the same for the curry sauce. The sausage for my son was very good. We’ve been coming here for ages and we don’t mind paying a lot more for it if it’s good. £12 for large fish chips small curry and peas and large sausage. Such a shame.

I loved the fish very crispy and yummy. The chips were nice only because they were covered in salt and vinegar . Fish cake was very fishy and lovely

We decided that our 100 strong workforce at NYTimber deserved a little gesture of lunch on us today following what has been a very busy, hard and hot summer in our factory and distribution centre. We run 3 shifts and @catterickchippy arrived perfectly on time today on each of our breaks and delivered piping hot fish & chips, curry sauce and peas. Great service from local neighbourly business, nice discount and would thoroughly recommend. Hopefully this will keep our workforce going for a while longer fabricating roof trusses, collating customer deliveries all around North Yorkshire and the North East!

The staff are great, and friendly, the food is very tasty, the portions are massive, and the price is great. The family portion of chips feeds 4 big eaters. I wasn't even a massive fan of chippy tea, until I found this spot.

Nice fish and chip shop - the young lady was very chatty, fish cooked to order - this was a good size, the chip portion was huge . Both were very tasty ! And would recommend !

As a lover of Britain’s finest Takeaway, this is up there with possibly the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Fish was beautifully cooked, large pieces of white cod. Chips just as tasty and all at a very reasonable price.

Just fancied fish and chips whilst visiting the area and found this chippy. Fantastic is all there is to say. The portion was huge. At least twice the amount of chips we normally get (i couldn't eat all mine) and the fish was enormous too. Recommended!

On the upside, they were happy to cook our chips in vegetable oil. On the downside, the fish was rather tasteless. It didn’t stipulate what kind of fish it was and I was left wondering whether it was haddock, cod or some quite different fish.

We were in holiday and one of our friends didn’t feel well so we didn’t go out to eat, we went for fish and chips instead. The fish was beautifully cooked fresh to order. The two lady’s working there were very friendly. Recommend this fish and shop to anyone

Live 200yrds from Catterick Chippy but dont get in to eat as often as we’d like to. Girls there are very helpful & food is great, cheap & portions are ridiculous.! Queue is out the door whenever you pass.

Worth driving over from Richmond. The food was freshly cooked and perfectly cooked no grease in sight. Very reasonable prices. Excellent service. Good to see lots of customers. Parking outside. Onion rings to die for. Chips were proper chips not scraps.

After coming from the south where prices are high and portions are small, this place took us by surprise.

100% FantasticA good old fashioned chippy, that might be small on the outside but by god it certanly serves up some fantastic food in BIG portions.The fish was the best I've had in over 20 years, better than the fish i had at Magpies Whitby.The chips are done in beef dripping which are full in flavour, but if you want they can cook some in vegetable oil if you wish.Went with my wife who can't eat Wheat or Gluten got the shock of her life when they said we can can cook you fish in a gluten free batter!Can honestly say this has to be in the running for best Chippy In Yorkshire

This chippy catered for a group of 22 meeting in a nearby village. The economy fish and chips were really good. The generous addition of some sides helped to cater for the different needs. Well presented, well cooked and hot, what more can you wish for. Well done to the staff.

First night in Catterick, fish and chip shop just around the corner from the cottage, and went for tea. As good fish and chips as I have had in a long time. Everyone described the fish as "lush" which is I suppose a complement, and the fish was excellent, moist and full of taste.

Amazing & delicious. leanne on the till is lovely ( a lot to be learnt from her) Great fish with lovely tasty chips & the curry sauce is perfect. Righly recommend to anyone in the area.The latest review confuses me...3 star because the portions are too big. Let them worry about there portion size...enjoy the plentiful portions

Had fish and chips tonight for tea. This fish and chip shop gives you the largest portion of chips i have ever had anywhere. Its stupid he is loosing trade everybody gets two fish and one bag of chips. Tbe fish i had was lovely white tasty fisb sloiled by milrs two much greasy batter

This place is our nearest Chippy so I'm probably a bit bias, but it is the best one I've come across. Lovely staff, can call them on way home from work & collect your order when I'm passing. Always very fresh, huge portions & now they do gluten free as well.

First visit to this highly acclaimed fish & chip shop. Owned by Lyndon & Leanne for the past two years, so previous reviews are relating to the previous owners..When we arrived there was a queue back to the door, which is usually a good sign.We were served relatively​ quickly due to the queue, by the very polite and friendly staff.The fish were large and the portion of chip were gargantuan.I have to say that they were the best tasting fish & chips I have had for a very, very long time.We will now make this our 'go to' fish & chip shop...

We use this chip shop a lot for fish and chip normally on Friday night when I don't want to cook but now and again we like haggis - which I will ring and order which is ready by the time I get there - freshly done not wrapped til I get there. Brilliant if you do have a problem they are very willing to work it out with you. ☺Loyalty card stamped Everytime you go I am always forgetting my one so have one under counter to use.

This is a lovely village chip shop with lovely friendly staff, good fish and chips and enormous portions! We called after a day at the races but didn't go for a 'plaice'. Sorry!

I live near the fisheries so it's my local fish and chip shop. It is a wonderful fish shop and well worth the money! I always advise my friends to go there because it's better than the other fish shops within the surrounding areas in my opinion. This shop is cheap and most of the time, it tastes really nice. There is the odd time when the chips aren't cooked for long enough so the taste of raw potato ruin the meal but 7/10 times they get it right.

Visited here several times over the past year and it was mediocre. Visited today and wow what a difference! Great service from very lovely ladies and the food was fab! Will definitely be returning and recommending. Very fair prices too.

MY figure will never be the same again the best around we live in a few miles away but don't mind traveling for the best ever fish and chips, the mushy peas and curry sauces are yummy too, the staff are lovely .the portions are good value the fish is flaky and falls of your fork lovely white fish, none of that grey looking stuff the batter is to die for its making me hungry writing this , give this chippy a go you will not be disappointed.

What a treat, coming from South of Birmingham has its rewards fish and chips as they're supposed to be!!! Good size fish as standard, chops the same and real spuds and cooked I lard, and..... Help yourself to salt abd vinegar..... Did I mention the proper batter abd not forgetting the proper price and not forgetting the friendly staff.... 20/10 !!!

The portions served here are enormous, and should by rights be the subject of a H&S risk assessment. Not only are the portions large, they are absolutely scrumptious, as mentioned by other reviewers, by far the best in the local area, and maybe far beyond. A wide and varied menu ensures not a single customer will suffer starvation. All of this served up by friendly witty staff who work at an amazing pace. As a local resident, my only problem is that the reputation of this little gem is spreading far and wide, meaning longer queues for me.

we live quite local to this lovely fish and chip shop which has vastly improved since being taken over by the present owners.can only speak for the very good quality fish as we like it so much we always have it with the good chips which come with it. very good size portions, cooked to perfection.very pleasant staff who always make time to pass the time of day with their customers even when they are very busy.they give a loyalty card which is very generous too

Came across this place on a recent visit to the North East and what a find it was!Really fresh and tasty fish, amazing chips, great portions, friendly service and all at a decent rice - what more can you ask for?! Definitely one of the best fish and chip shops I've ever been to and I'll have to think of an excuse to go back up there to visit again!

Huge portions of expertly cooked food. Always delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly and make a fuss of my kids. Highly recommended. Every other chip shop will be disappointing now. You'll have to go a long way to find a better chippy than this one!

After seeing the reviews on trip advisor I decided to give this chip shop a try.Went in there for a big family take away (5 adults and 2 children) everything was cooked to order, was perfect and tasted great. Couldn't fault the place. Better than any other standard chippy. Lots of different things and friendly staff. Will be going here every time we fancy a fish and chip shop night!

I have lived around this area since 1994 and this chippy used to be the best for miles, then it dived to below par. Since the last change of owner this chippy has gone from strength to strength.Out standing value!I travel from Richmond were there is already 3 or 4 chippys to Catterick Village as it is by far the best!!

We had 'Fish & Chips' take-out style. Very good all enveloping and clean box with freshly cooked big chips and double battered fish @ £5.00 - Light tasty batter & lovely peices of fish, with freshest of chips. Bang on! Excellent! One serving would have done us both but we went for the full Monty - great! Stuffed!Not to be missed if you are anywhere near Catterick Village or A1.

I visited today for lunch and I was very impressed. I am a big fan of a good Fish and Chip shop and when I heard about this place I knew I had to visit. It's one of the best chip shops I've visited and I've been to a fair few in my time. I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in the area, it's just a shame I live 2 hours away otherwise I would be one of their regulars. If you like your Fish and Chips you MUST visit here. You will not be disappointed.

This is our local chippy. The food is very good and plentiful. The staff are always happy, chatty and smiling.

This was the third time since The new owners took over that we have visited this Fish Shop. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN. It appears that they were good at the beginning the food was quite good, they must have been trying to impress. This time the fish had 2" thick batter either end with NO fish and in between it was a soggy inedible mess. The chips were also swimming in grease and also soggy. We put it all out on the grass for the wildlife and when we looked the next morning there was a thick layer of fat left. I am just glad that that was not clogging up our insides. I think they need to change the fat. And use less of it. It can't be that difficult produce quality food. They did it for the first couple of months. We will certainly tell anyone who asks what the food is like, and say go to Colburn if you want good fish and chips.

bought fish, chips and peas from here. Lovely staff - very helpful. Chips were a generous portion and nice, but VERY small fish. Batter nice and crispy though. For the price I would've thought they would give you two fish! Peas were quite sweet and a bit on the runny side. Change of management recently so might return in a few weeks to see if anything has improved.
