Catcher in the Rye in Barnet

Visited The Catcher In The Rye for the first time on Sunday and will definitely be visiting again. I found it cosy and inviting with a very chilled vibe - perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. The old windows and fairy lights make for a very cute atmosphere. We both had the lamb shank followed by the sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake - all delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and checked on us throughout our visit to make sure all was ok with our food and if we needed anything else. I noticed they are dog friendly so we will def be back with our puppy!

Having dined here previously and having had a positive experience we decided to visit again. We were extremely disappointed with everything except the staff. My partner’s ribeye steak was virtually inedible, full of fat and gristle. We complained and were given a free drink as an apology. When we arrived the table which had been reserved for us was already occupied, so we were seated elsewhere. The tables had not been wiped down and were sticky from where previous guests had spilt drinks as were the menus. The toilets were equally dirty with no toilet paper in one cubicle and paper all over the floor. The food was reasonably priced, but the wine was overpriced for what it was. All in all a very disappointing evening, particularly as it was a celebratory meal.

Great pub! We go there regularly and have done for quite some time. Its quiet without being boring and the staff (Amir and Angel in this case) are always helpful and friendly. If it wasn't great we'd not be coming back week after week. :)

Amazing food for a great price. The cauliflower cheese was lovely and went well with the chicken goujons.

We had bottomless brunch and it was good fun. Charlotte was a great host. The food was 30 mins into our time though as the kitchen was closed and no one told us. Also the staff hate 'loud noises' so be careful not to have too much fun.

One of the local pubs close to hotel. Tap lager is expensive compared to what I normally pay. Menu did not had what i wanted. Started was ok and the main was ok but not great for fish and chips for what I paid.

Amir’s customer Service is great We had the Sunday roast. Price is reasonable. However, meat are all overdone. Would like the sirloin and lamb a bit pink. Potato can be a little bit crispier, they were seasoned well.

The staff are really friendly & the chef goes above & beyond dealing with my food allergies. The Catcher is dog friendly & they really welcome our dog like an old friend. The food is good, it’s not ‘a little bit of nothing on a big white plate’. It is good honest pub grub and the beer is great.

Super nice waiters, phenomenal beers and all made even cooler by Rick Six's open mic, who enlivened the evening in a very professional and prepared way, bringing us very good singers. A beautiful vibe was created in the place

The manager is really unhelpful, and she is not the right fit for the managerial position. I am writing this as a person who used to work in the hospitality industry. I ordered the bottle of wine, which was the most awful wine that I have ever tried. I asked to exchange the wine for a different bottle, although they refused to make the exchange. We took a sip of the wine, and we had to return it immediately after taking a single sip of it. Our table was not even cleaned. The whole experience was just awful. I would not return to this place

I finally found an excelent pub with great choise of drinks.The menu is perfect and very kind people!

I was invited to this lovely venue by a friend who performed at the open mic. I really had a good time, all the acts of the open mic were amazing and I had one of the best burgers and beers! Super recommended

Absolutely loved my fish n chips! How can one go to England n not try it?! Very cute ambience and also loved the beer. One of us tried a sandwich made with Avocado, Tomato and mozzarella which was also loved.

Thanks to Angel and Christian - a really enjoyable meal. We had a roast pork dinner, a mushroom Wellington and the prawn and calamari paired dishes. Prawns were the best. Yorkshire pudding yum

Honestly probably the best places in Finchley to have a sunday roast in! Not only were the staff so attentive and making sure we are having a great time with our kids , but the roast itself was genuienly so tasfy, especially for the price...

Always a great meal and the staff are always so accommodating. Our first visit was with a large group and we were struggling to find a place to accommodate us all. However, staff here arranged a big area for us all, we were able to pre order meals from menu and it all ran like clockwork. I can't remember the name of the waitress who served us as it was pre Covid, but she was brilliant!Our second visit was in August and again we were quite a large family group (7). Staff here managed to again reserve us a table and both food and staff were fabulous. Our waitress Sonia was really great and especially lovely to our three kids. Food was great and we will definitely be back soon!

Finchley is not really known for its pubs, but this is definitely one of the nicest ones. The interior stretches along several rooms, and is very cosy with sofas, quiet corners etc. On one of the few warm summer evenings we preferred to sit outside in the tiny front garden. There are quite a few cocktails, all at reasonable prices, and a good selection of beers. My Aperol Spritz was well made, and my partner's Spanish beer even came in the correct glass. And service from the lovely Irish waitress (Lisa?) was top notch.We didn't eat here, but there are some interesting choices on the menu, including some vegetarian options. And what's more, they are dog friendly, they are allowed both inside and out. We'll remember that when we're inviting a dog owning friend out for lunch!

We were warmly welcomed on arrival, including the family pet who was offered gravy bone treats. Sonia was very attentive. The schnitzel was excellent, with moist and garlicky chicken. The quinoa black bean chilli was most flavoursome. We will return soon !!

Terrible service. Ordered a bottle of wine and was brought a more expensive bottle and didn’t realise until the bill came as I just assumed I was given what I ordered. The manager refused to do anything even though the waitress admitted it was her error so ended up paying for something I didn’t ask for. Such a rip off and will never go back.

Booked in for a bottomless brunch with friends now restrictions have been lifted. Kal Andra and JJ were very accommodating to our needs, so great customer service. The food was Delish, loads of choices and opportunities to upgrade if required. The drinks were most Impressive, and were great value for money , looking forward to returning again .

Had the fish and chips with mushy peas (must recommend!). Very helpful team member Chloe talked me through the allergen list as I don't eat shellfish. Will be back again soon!

Had a great visit to the pub for lunch yesterday! It's been ages since I've been able to leave the house, I really appreciated the staff hospitality and ensuring it was a safe and friendly environment. Had a lovely server named Chloe who was kind and offered a great suggestion of the meatless burger. The burger was really tasty - I wouldn't have been able to tell it wasn't meat. I will be back again to try more of the menu! The pub itself was a bit busy in the outside section - but it was a bank holiday weekend and a lunch rush on a sunny day so I completely understood why. Thanks again for all your hard work and great food.

The gorgeous Chloe makes this place. Everything else about it is underwhelming. If it were a 'spoons it'd be forgiveable but at these prices it should be much better. It feels like a pub in an airport departure lounge. There must be better round here. If only Chloe worked somewhere else...

Sandwich basicand chips very bland and pale. Drinks were fine - nice glass for the beaver town. Chloë however was great. Friendly, helpful and really good looking.

This classic Finchley pub has really got it right with the Covid situation. Very good, feasible measures in place, its clear they have made an effort. And tasty food as always, fair prices and a great atmosphere.

La comida parecía la basura que esperarías que te sirvieran en un centro de juegos para niños o en un café en una bolera de un parque comercial.Si ser chef significa poder preparar y servir alimentos descongelados y preenvasados, ¿por qué no servir abiertamente comidas preparadas para microondas?El pub en sí necesita urgentemente una renovación. Las mesas pegajosas, la iluminación 'ambiental', los muebles con olor a rancio y los pisos alfombrados no son encantadores, simplemente están anticuados.Aparte del caballero que nos recibió, el personal marchó enojado y no podría estar más dispuesto a intentar tomar nuestros platos y vasos medio vacíos, viendo claramente que aún no habíamos terminado. Gran lugar Tuve una muy buena experiencia ayer cuando visité el pub. Micrófonos abiertos, mucha diversión.El servicio fue muy bueno y rápido. Excelente comida. Me comí un filete con papas fritas y champiñones. Muy sabroso. Gracias al chef con un pañuelo sonriente. Volveré.

Asistí para un bocado del almuerzo del sábado y disfruté una pinta de cerveza excelente y un sándwich en su oferta que ayuda a llevar el precio de la cerveza a un nivel razonable: ¡6 una pinta es definitivamente el nivel de precio de Londres! Los sándwiches están bien y se sirven con papas fritas y guarnición, buena comida de pub, si nada especial.Nos pareció un poco extraño que fuéramos las únicas personas en el pub: extraño.

Came in at 8PM and was struck by how beautiful the pub and building was and I'm pleased to say the visit was equally nice. Service exceptional, food well priced and tasty and drink selection wonderful. Would reccomend to families and couples as well as groups of friends.

Me encantó el exterior del pub tan pronto como pasé. Las luces de Navidad y el diseño del edificio fue lo que primero me atrajo y no me decepcionó. Mi novio y yo fuimos llevados a una mesa en el comedor por una chica encantadora con gafas. Tomé el pedido, fui por el halloumi y luego por el pegajoso pudín de caramelo para el postre mientras mi novio fue por el bistec y luego un brownie de chocolate. Nos encantó todo El servicio fue excelente y la comida deliciosa. Recomendaría este gran pub a todos. Era un lugar tan cálido y acogedor y un gran pub de diseño.

Staff is the best I have ever experienced at ANY bar food establishment. Restaurant is very clean and neat looking. Maybe the food seems to taste better because of these facts. A great place for a fast meal where you can stay all night in the bar area after.

Fantastic selection of beers, wines and gins. Really classical English design and a fantastic place to visit. Really enjoyed the burger and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Will be back next time I’m in the area.

El personal era amable a pesar de haber cometido un pequeño error con mi factura. Comida terrible 7 comidas diferentes seleccionadas, incluyendo asados los domingos. . . Todos, sin excepción, fueron ampliamente considerados como realmente malos. Pequeñas porciones, verduras mal cocidas, papas fritas o bien cocidas o grasientas, porciones de pollo casi risibles (y ¿cortadas?) Algunas parecían haber sido recién fritas en el congelador. En general, muy mala comida Comida familiar para los padres ancianos que cumplieron años y se le dijo que no hiciera un escándalo / escena, ¡así que recurrir a este sitio! Muy decepcionante.

Ate dinner at this pub, service was excellent, and food even better, great value for money. Had the Burger, as they had run out of steak, I am glad they did as the burger is one of the best that i have had anywhere, definitely home made with home made sauce as well, could not fault the service or food.

Visited with my family for a meal. The food was ok but was over priced and of a very average standard. The service was poor too. Got the order wrong. Some dishes missing items and no apology. Not great and doubt I will visit again as there are plenty of better alternatives in Finchley. Jaipur in draft was good though

Main meal portions were mean although not not terrible to taste. Desert (apple crumble) was served luke warm with not even enough custard to cover the surface. Tea was served in a glass with a wooden stick for a spoon 20 minutes before the desert arrived - more cafe than restaurant! Definitely need two courses if this is your main meal of the day.

So disappointed by our Christmas Day Lunch. The portions were small, however this was a blessing as the main course was really bad. The carrots, parsnips & potatoes were undercooked, practically raw. The gravy was thin & the Yorkshire Pudding was flat as a pancake We were given a free round of drinks when I complained, however this is small compensation for such a poor Christmas Lunch. It's a real shame as I like this pub but the food doesn't match the surroundings.

They had nothing on the menu so we ended up leaving. Having booked a table they should have told us there was no food.

Where to start. Went for xmas dinner on xmas day. It started out really nice when they brought my niece a gift and a santa hat then it went down hill from there. My brother waited 20 mins to be served for a drink.

IF you are wanting a decent Sunday lunch then give this place a miss. Avoid if you want RAW chicken served! Not once, but twice in a row. How can a kitchen mess up the same dish twice for 3 different people. Waiting time for the food to come out was a joke too. All of our party ordered food within a few minutes of each other, and rather than bring the food out together it came out in dribs and drabs. We all took up this offer of having the unlimited potatoes and yorkshire puddings, but that never arrived. Or was it the plate that had 3 or 4 potatoes on it along with a deflated yorkshire pudding. The food wasn't exactly hot either. I've never had such a bad Sunday lunch ever! The beef was just full of fat and had to be the smallest piece ever served. It was an insult having had to pay for this drivel in advance. We try not to complain, but when you see a member of staff after you make a comment roll their eyes when they turn their backs; that says it all. They're happy to take your money in advance but can't come up with a) decent food and b) offer something as a gesture of goodwill due to their poor service. When it came to ordering some desserts, nothing what we wanted appeared to be available either. I could understand if this establishment was busy, but I have never seen a pub this empty on a Sunday during prime lunchtime before. Perhaps the alarm bells should have been ringing as we walked in?

Tengo muchas ganas de que me guste este pub, es mi local y, a veces, es genial, pero cuando es malo, es realmente malo. Frustrating would sum it up. Whilst I wait at the bar, third in line in a queue of 4 or 5 a member of staff slaves at the coffee machine serving another customer 6 coffees. Nothing wrong with that I think, but I ask is she is the only person working, yes she says. I ask is there anybody in the office, yes but she’s doing something is her response. I hope she is was my thought, then suggested maybe she could ask her to assist her. I’ll be with you as soon as I can she responds.
