Casalingo in Brighton and Hove

Went during a fleeting visit to Brighton for a couple of days. Really lovely authentic Italian restaurant, reasonably priced- food is excellent and true to Italian flavours, portions are generous, the service is fast and friendly, we went on a Tuesday evening and it was nicely busy but not noisy and we could hold a conversation without any issue. Not in the most characteristic part of Brighton but it’s reflected in the prices, ie they are reasonable and not over the top like in The Lanes. Very recommended and worth going if you are visiting Brighton.

Nice Italian restaurant on Preston St in Brighton. On the pricier end for Italian food however, everything tasted good and was enjoyable. Would have liked more variety of seafood in the linguine but overall a nice experience. Would recommend booking as it can get quite full up during busy times.

I visited Casalingo restaurant once and it became my favorite place in town. Amazing Atmosphere, fantastic food, great service and kind people whose are always happy to help, offer you delicious , every day fresh food what is really important. I strongly recommend that place to visit

I had a lovely night at Casalingo the staff are friendly. A great plus is you are greeted in Italian and are great hosts!!! Myself and my partner went out for a meal this evening and had 3 courses and to say it was good is an understatement (it is amazing!!) The snails were awesome and are something I haven't had In a while so I really enjoyed sharing them with my partner and showing him something I love to eat :)) For mains, I had the lasagne and my partner had the chef's special ravioli!! Both dishes were finished without a crumb to spare!! They are generous portions which is awesome but you should come here if you're hungry and have a large appetite so you can try as much as possible :)) For deserts, I had the sorbet which is a trio of flavours that work together seamlessly. My partner had the cheese board which was awesome as well The atmosphere is lovely as-well with a calm/ romantic atmosphere !!! I hope to come back again soon!!! Wow - the pasta dishes were so generous and absolutely DELICIOUS. The staff were also amazing and so attentive. Will definitely come back when in Brighton.

Have been eating here since it opened. Only manage a few times a year due to distance. Great steaks, chicken. Recommended.

Staff are super friendly and nice, they chat with us and help us take pictures. The restaurant is near Waitrose bus stop which is very convenient to get to by bus 49. Will definitely recommend the sea food dishes they server, ingredients are fresh and the seasoning are authentic. I order mussels and seafood risotto. Was great, but the risotto is slightly salty. The portion of each dishes is huge. So is good to share with friends. Didn’t get to try their dessert in the end since we are too full, will definitely try next time.

Visiting from Sheffield we searched for best Italian in Sheffield and were not disappointed. Food was as good as any Italian we have encountered and the service and friendliness of the host and assistant was lovely. We will be back next time.

Had an amazing time here tonight. I was a bit nervous about coming in on my own as my friend dropped out at the last minute and I really wanted to dine here for a long time, but the friendly, attentive server and manager assuaged my fears. To start, I had the Cozze Marinara and cheesy garlic bread, which was delicious, followed by the Linguine Pescatore, and topped off with the best Tiramisu I’ve had in my life. I had this with the house white wine which complemented the dishes well, and the manager even gave me a free large brandy on the house, which was a lovely gesture. Next time, I will definitely bring somebody else along as it’s the closest taste to Italy I’ve had since living in Brighton, and wish to spread the word. Highly recommend!

I booked a table for 6 people on a recommendation and the restaurant did not disappoint. The service was efficient and friendly (not at all rude as mentioned by a recent reviewer) The food, oh my gosh, was delicious … Baked figs with goats cheese, mmmm and bruschetta - the best I’ve ever tasted. My main of rabbit (on the bone) with polenta chips was a very large portion and equally as good as the starters. Would definitely return.

Food was amazing, restaurant was full and we were served every dish promptly starter to desert. One of the best Italians we’ve eaten in Sussex in quite a while.

This is the best Italian restaurant we have every visited in the UK, great food, great, service, friendly & very professional service overall an excellent dining experience. Thanks for a great evening out.

Authentic Italian restaurant with a menu to match. Friendly professional staff who clearly enjoy giving a great service with a smile. This was our second visit and it was just as enjoyable as our first. Very tasty food well presented and truly Italian. Good value and very good meal out.

Vi hadde ikke booket bord, med var heldig da vertskapet gjorde plass til oss selv om det var fult for kvelden. En service innstilt gjeng som alle har røtter fra Italia gjorde det de kunne for at vi skulle trives. Maten var god og den ble servert raskt.

An absolutely stupendous restaurant. The starters (bruschetta, insalata tricolore) were stunning, while the pasta main courses were wonderful - pasta cooked perfectly al dente with rich sauce. No real room for desserts - but had to try the cheese cake, crème brûlée and the tiramisu: all sublime. Throw in wonderful drinks, friendly service and a reasonable prices and you are in for a treat!

Amazing. We were a table of 12 dining on 26th July. The food was fabulous and service was delightful. Would recommend to anyone visiting Brighton. Will hopefully be there again soon. Thank you , Katie.

So disappointed, we went for my partner’s 60th birthday. I booked online and asked for a window table and had it confirmed it would be available for us. When we got there and said we had a table booked the waiter didn’t ask our name just pointed to a table that had’t been laid. It felt like we were bothering him. There were people sitting in the window seats but we decided not to say anything. Food was average which is a shame because whenever we go to Brighton we always go there. Also we were given paper napkins and noticed the other tables had linen napkins and breadsticks on the table. I also thought as we spent £100 a complementary drink would have been nice.

Chosen purely on how it looked from the street which proved to be a very wise instinctive decision. Whilst they were busy and staff light, the two guys running the show gave a warm welcome to my disabled wife and me. To boot, the food was top end, beautifully presented, hot very tasty and like the two guys, very Italian. Not cheap, but we’ll worth it. Highly recommend.

We booked the restaurant the evening before. They said we could have the table in the window for 8pm. We said that would be perfect as it was our anniversary. When we arrived at the restaurant. The table we had booked someone else was sitting there with no explanation we taken to the back of the restaurant to a table in the corner. So not a good start When they came to take the order I asked what dishes had black pepper add to them as I have a very sensitive taste. The waiter told to order the Chicken Milanese as the sauce didn’t have pepper in it so I did. When it arrived the Chicken was ok and the spaghetti had no sauce just some tomato chopped up on it. I asked where was the sauce and was told that how the chef had done it . They took it away and added the sauce. Found the service poor and the food was nothing special.

Me and my boyfriend had such a great time and food in here! We will definitely come back to this restaurant when we get back to Brighton! Staff very friendly, portion size was way more than we imagined and about the food, what can I say… one of the best Carbonara I ever had 👏🏼♥️

As soon as I walked in I felt at home. This restaurant has a lovely ambience. The waiters ensured we continued to feel at home, chatting away to us as they served us. I had the Gamberoni gratinati and it was absolutely delicious. Looking forward to my next visit.

Visited Casalingo with my sister on Saturday evening. Not my first visit and definitely not my last ! A lovely evening of excellent food and wine. I chose the bolognaise which I can highly recommend, it was delicious. The staff are so friendly and will help you choose from the menu, my sister wanted a little tweek to her risotto which the chef happily accommodated. I will be back soon Casalingo.

Only thing Italian about this restaurant, is the staff. Food was terrible, very cheap quality of food, but overpriced. Never again. One of the staff also a bit rude in his italian language talking about some other clients. Never again!

Excellent food, excellent service. This is a great place to go in Brighton. We went here a couple of years ago and loved it and thought we would ry it again and were very pleased that we did. They do a great starter which is figs stuffed with goats cheese which I would recommend. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Good service though food was a little disappointing.

Was utterly disappointed this evening was hoping for an authentic Italian experience having travelled after work from the other side of Arundel but instead was presented ( after quite a wait ) with tough chicken that looked like supermarket saver chicken breast,with no seasoning at all wrapped in luke warm pancetta with a cheese sauce with a skin on the top, as looked like it had been waiting quite a while. No bread or olives offered & food cooked & presented without any seasoning whatsoever. Shame as staff initially welcoming will not return

I had a very bad experience there, the stuff were very rude to me and my friend they were giving us dirty looks for no reason and whenver we asked them about something it took them long enough to come and answer us and serve even when i went to the cashier to ask questions he was just procrastinating to answer a simple question also not the service charge that was 10£ and we didn’t wanna pay for it. i will not go again to this restaurant.

First time visit as we stayed Brighton for the weekend. A lovely friendly atmosphere. The restaurant owners and staff were all very friendly and the whole experience was great and not at all intimidating. I had the Linguine Pescatore which was amazing. So tasty, bursting with flavour, full of seafood. I could not stop eating it. My family had Penne al Pesto which was also very tasty. I sneaked a mouthful. We ordered some garlic bread as a side too. Looking forward to visiting Brighton again and Casalingo.

Came in last Sunday and was thoroughly impressed with both the excellent food and the three amazing helpful waiting staff who allowed us to move tables because the lights in one spot were a bit bright for one of my party due to a medical condition. Flawless!

The decor, the atmosphere and the staff are great, but unfortunately the food is disappointing. The Walrus was really busy at Saturday lunchtime and you can't help but wonder if it has become a victim of its own success and slightly over ambitious. The quality of the food was very average. Two main courses were taken off the bill as two of our party of six were not happy with them: dry burger and a very oily artichoke and butternut squash salad. The oil was of indeterminate origin and certainly did not taste of olive oil; our 2 Italian friends can vouch for that! The added halloumi was battered and deep fried as opposed to grilled... Chips seemed like the oven variety and everything was just rather bland. Service was really friendly and attentive for such a busy venue.

Les plats sont typiques, ambiance pub donc on n'est pas dans la grande cuisine mais c'est néanmoins très bon et consistant, vous en avez pour votre argent ! Bon rapport qualité prix, ambiance de bar chaleureuse, bon choix de boisson, plats originaux et végétariens/gluten free possibles, service impeccable... très cool entre amis!

One of the many Italian restaurants in Brighton. I have been there for a dinner, everything was amazing. Quality food, well cooked and well presented. Staff was professional and polite. The restaurant is located close to the seafront in a central street. Not so busy so you can have a relaxing time on that. Special thanks to Marco and Tamara working there. Highly Recommended.
