MAN the food here was nice!! I had Rib eye steak and salad , and it was absolutely lovely!!! Rib eye can be hit and miss at times because of the fat content - but this was cooked perfectly medium rare and there was no gristle whatsoever - salad was fresh and crunchy, with nothing over the top and silly about it. It just complemented the steak and freshened the palate. Which was exactly what it was there to do. Job done. Loved it. My friend had beef nachos and chicken burger which he said was the best he’s had - it was huge too… Our lovely waitress was called Lauren (A Rock Chick out front! Always good to see!🤘🤘) and she absolutely smashed it! They all did to be fair. Knowledgable , attentive, helpful , funny and down to earth. They deserve 5 stars all day long So then … (out of 5 of course!) Food 5 Service 5 (and some!!) Ambience - 4 (depends if you like busy though!)

Always a warm welcome here. A really nice cozy, country pub. Food portions are very generous and very well prepared. My sirloin steak was excellent and cooked just as I like it. All other meals reported as being excellent. All round enjoyment and great value for money. Highly recommended!

Turned up on the off chance of getting a table in this busy eatery. We were fitted in food & service was excellent again !!!

Pub itself and gardens lovely. First disappointment - no bitter apart from bottles !! Chose "Ham, eggs and chips with peas" and received two crunchy fried eggs with hard yolks, mediocre ham, thin dry oven chips and no peas. Far more expensive than similar more appetizing offerings at other pubs in the area. Won't be rushing back.

Our favourite pub! The atmosphere is amazing and the servers are SO friendly, it made the whole experience 10x better. The food is great quality too and they’re 100% dog friendly. The best pub near Kings Langley

This place has gone downhill. Now seem to focus on crap quantity over quality. We ordered the lamb shoulder x 2 and it was inedible. Fatty, greasy and gristly. It had clearly been cooked so fast that it was too tough. Had the same experience a month or so ago but gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Always a friendly welcome awaits you at the pub. Nice setting and good range of drinks and a decent pub style food menu. Food is always good and I would recommend the chip shop platter complete with curry sauce!

Very attentive and friendly staff, excellent quality food and there is so much of it - too much if that’s a thing! Great veg, meat and beer. It’s a little cramped and noisy inside but that’s the nature of the place. Highly recommended.

Popped in on the off chance as we found ourselves without plans. Lovely traditional country pub with friendly staff and home cooked food. We both had the pepper steak pie which was delicious. Will definitely be going back to try more of the interesting looking menu.

Fantastic Food from Chef Will..and super service from excellent Tia, they helped organise a family Christmas lunch which with a dog and everyone we had a fantastic time, including the dog..who had a few dog treats from the bar!

My wife and I had a lovely pub lunch at the Cart & Horses today. Delicious food, excellent value and friendly, prompt service. We will be back again soon!

Have stopped at The Cart & Horses a few times when out on my bike but today I was with the family and on a dog walk and thought we'd give lunch a go. And I am glad we did. I had the black and blue burger (blue cheese) and it was absolutely fantastic, my youngest (11) and my partner had the fish and chips that was excellent with my eldest (15) wolfed down her chicken burger. Be 'warned' portion sizes are massive! Service was lovely from the team. The pub looked good and the garden even had a bouncy castle for younger guests to be entertained. Will most definitely be returning.

We had been recommended this pub/restaurant on many occasions and we wasn’t disappointed. Good choice of food on menu. Friendly and helpful staff. Very generous portions.

Quiet location where dogs are welcome and there is room for children to play. Shade form trees and a tall hedge, We ate in the shady, smaller front garden where service was good. Plenty of car parking, and a 15 minute walk along footpaths takes you past the Apostles Pond and through the cool woods to the cricket pitch and Two Brewers on Chipperfield Common. We just had takeaway Sunday lunch for 3 and it was superb. All of the roast meats were delicious with fabulous crackling onthe pork and scrumptious roast beef. There was a lovely range of vegetables and roast potatoes too, along with Yorkshire pudding and stuffing....

This pub had nice food which good value for money. However, the pub was non compliant with 2 metres social distancing. The tables were too close together, a metre apart at most. There were also a lot of customers gathered at the bar without wearing face-masks, making the dining experience uncomfortable.

We booked for an early evening meal and asked for a warm table. I didn't think the table we had was great as it wasn't near a heater. Only to realise that the whole time we were there the entrance door was opened and banged shut constantly, due to serving take aways and outside drinkers.so there wasn't a warm table anywhere as the cold draft filled the whole area. We had to wear our coats for the duration of the meal.Food was average. Covid guidelines not adhered to by other clientel and not enforced by the staff.

After using the Cart & Horses as a regular pit stop during bike rides over the first lockdown, I thought why not? It really did give me that small glimpse of reality that I so desperately desired. I found myself even taking half days to cycle ‘via’ the cart on warm summer afternoons. When I heard Boris’ announcement about Lockdown 2.0 I know it was time to get the biking gear out...but this time I was more prepared - but so were the cart.Cycled 13 Miles yesterday and stopped at the pub mid way - brilliant decision.Got myself a Cart Classic 2 Pinter in a completely environmentally sustainable carton which going for a solid hour. Very bubbly as well may I add. Result! For grub I picked up a Nachos plate which was a generous portion and but the chillis were not for the faint hearted.The team were extremely responsive via the Instagram page (this is how you can place orders now-a-days) and were approachable upon our arrival to the car park. All usual checks were completed and the entire service was COVID Compliant. Impressive operation. The weather may be against us but overall the same brilliant Cart I remember from lockdown 1 - this time with a touch of flair.10/10

As a chef in a previous life im quire picky about food and drink. This place has it all insane food,great atmosphere and incredible staff that know there stuff (even if not to personal preference) issue was resolved instantly and had a great time. Fabulous lunch date with my husband. Great, friendly service. Warm cosy atmosphere in a lovely country setting. We shared some bread and oil etc to start and the balsamic was sooooo good. When I asked for the brand so I could get some, they let me buy some of their own supply which was lovely of them. I had the fish & chips special which was rock bought from Billingsgate that morning. It was just gorgeous. Literally the nicest I have ever eaten. I was just gutted that I didn’t have room for pud We enjoyed it so much, we have just booked to go back for Sunday lunch with some family as I hear their roast is pretty legendary!

A great find in Commonwood. These guys have done so well in managing Covid 19 during lockdown and now they still make it a safe and enjoyable place to come to. Test and trace is taken care of. Seating is socially distant. All staff are so friendly and polite. They all wear face masks and social distance too and somehow provide great service. We went for steak night on a Tuesday and were not disappointed in either quality or the reasonable prices.The only thing was brought a slight down note was that the door and windows were open for ventilation which is great but a weeny bit draughty. Frankly I've no idea how you would solve in a pandemic. Perhaps they could supply blanket throws that are washed after each guest or we should have brought our own? I'd still highly rate this place.

Beautiful wedding reception location. To be clear the wedding was June 2019 but there's no option to review that far back! We had eaten here before our wedding and already knew the quality of food. A couple of friends recommended the marquee as an ideal reception venue. We had the choice of booking the entire pub, garden and marquee or just the marquee but we chose the former since we had over 100 guests and children.Planning was enjoyable and easy with Ian and there was plenty of flexibility for diets and preferences.We chose our preferred reception cocktails which were served on the lawn and dinner was a "posh barbecue" - given numbers and the late hour of the day that we were married we went for self service which was really well managed by the staff.There was more than enough food and it really was excellent quality. The whole afternoon and evening was managed so well with efficiency, patience and obvious experience of such occasions!Children were delighted with the garden play areas and we laid on some games which kept them happy.A Ceilidh band played outside for dancing as the sun went down and a DJ finished the evening.I can't recommend The Cart and Horses more for a proper traditional English Country style wedding!

Booked to have a late afternoon Sunday lunch here and was a bit surprised to see chaos as we walked in.  Staff were wandering around with trays not knowing who the drinks were for, the 'meeter &  greeter' seemed to be in a bad mood and was very flustered.  Not a great start! We did ask about the waiting time for food and was told as we just wanted 2 roasts, it's wouldn't be long as it was a simple order. We sat in the garden and ordered a bottle of wine.  About 20 mins later - no wine was delivered to our table, so we asked again.  After 45 minutes had elapsed and still no wine had appeared, my husband went to the bar and it seems the first order didn't go thru - so he asked for the wine at the bar. The barman was obviously under pressure and at first stated he had to go through his tickets in order and that we were still fourth from being served. My husband explained how long we had been waiting and he then reluctantly agreed to serve our order but my husband had to carry it back to our table! I went to collect cutlery, s&p etc and was dismayed to find the cutlery all in an open cutlery tray, so everyone who was eating here would have had their  hands in the tray! My husband wanted to leave but we were both very hungry and decided as we'd waited so long for our lunch, we may as well wait a bit longer - and wait we did! Unbelievably it took 1.5 hours to get 2 Sunday roasts - both the same! Had we been advised at the start that It would have taken this long we would not have stayed. The mealsĺ looked ok to start with, but we were soon disappointed.  The beef had been put on a grill to heat up and was overcooked and tough.  There were 3 tiny pieces of roast potato that were shrivelled and dry, masses of overcooked and mushy carrot, and the Yorkshire pudding was dry, crispy as paper and cold.  Several items were missing off the plate too - no stuffing balls, roasted onion or parsnips as per the menu! We took a couple of bites and although we were very hungry, we weren't hungry enough to eat what they served up as a Sunday roast! We actually told the server what was wrong and she didn't say anything- we also said we weren't paying for the food as it was mostly inedible! Upon leaving, I heard her complaining about us to the people on the next table- and I think we'd been very patient and polite under the circumstances! Our overall experience was not good to say the least.  The people running this place didn't seem to care, their staff were stressed out, food was just not good enough.  To be honest, I've only given this place 1 star as I thought the garden was nice, but we definately won't be back!

A 2nd visit for us as I was quite impressed when I first came here for an evening meal in December, so this time post lockdown we booked for Sunday lunch.Sadly the experience today means a return visit is unlikely.We were seated after giving contact details and then had a rather long wait to be offered a menu and drinks during which time it was obvious the place was very busy in the garden and the staff looked rushed off their and stressed, taking drinks orders outside and trays of food . This was reflected in them not having time to pay attention to a warm welcome after we were seated and the atmosphere in the pub was not relaxing as a stressed owner (Ian) was in and outm taking phone calls and occassionally being a bit sharp in the way he spoke to other team members.Our starters arrived over 45 minutes from being seated and our main courses 1 hour and 20 minutes after we arrived which was just too long. Starters weren't bad, chicken wings as good as I remember them but the main sunday roast courses were poor , the vegetables were luke warm, soft, overcooked or overwarmed and not pleasant, most we left. The beef and the lamb shank was ok but the Pork Belly was very fatty and the lean part was tough and chewy, our Yorkshire puddings were cold. Staff didn't ask how the meal was or ask if we wanted anything else and after waiting at the end and not being offered dessert etc for a long period we decided to pay and leave rather than wait what may have been another 30minutes or more. We witnessed other customers complaining about the wait.We asked for the bill asap and fedback what we thought of the long wait and te food quality, we weren't asked for any details of what was wrong and after another period of waiting neither the chef or owner came to talk to us but they did take the cost of 2 main courses off the bill.We would have much preferred to have had better service and better food than a reduced bill, it seems they take on too many customers eating in and takeaway to be able to provide the quality of service and food that we experienced on our first visit which is a big shame, if there was any other explanation they didn't say when we told them what we thought but they did say sorry. hope they reflect on the feedback they get and take steps to address.

We visited the pub for Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The roast dinner were fantastic and the deserts were great too. We found the service very good despite the pub being very busy and they served a lovely pint of Guinness too.

We went to the Cart and Horses about 3 weeks ago. The day after our visit, I sent an email and was hoping to keep my comms "off" of Tripadvisor but as they've not had the courtesy to reply - then I'll say what I think here..Sadly we weren't impressed. It was one of the Eat out to Help out evenings and it was manic. We weren't impressed with the waiter who kept handing drinks to us with his fingers around the top of the glasses. Apart from taking our phone number there was no directing us as to what the Covid safety measures were, nor advising us to use the gel that was at the front of the garden (when we did use it it was virtually empty) Staff were running around with huge trays of food and many people had been waiting for ages. There wasn't any table number system...people just seemed to be seeing what was on a tray, seeing it was theirs, and waving frantically! We witnessed a couple of tables who were querying the bill after their dinner too. Tables were still piled up whilst new guests were sitting down so we saw no evidence of tables being cleaned prior to. All a bit disconcerting.The food, it has to be said was nice, but we waited a very long time for it and there seemed to be many more people booked into the garden that they could adequately cater for. We felt a little bit that they were getting the people through the door but that the whole "safety first" thing re COVID was lacking.It's a shame, because we won't be rushing to go there again. It compounded things for us that we didn't even receive an acknowledgement of our email the day after we had visited. Had we had one, we probably wouldn't be doing this right now. Hopefully when the government offer is finished it might settle down to how things used to be again ...?

Our first meal out yesterday for six months was just wonderful. despite the heavens opening halfway through our two hour + visit. But C&Ts Plan B arrangements in their garden marquee worked perfectly. The service was a bit slow, but Covid has made us much more patient, all except our 1 year old grandson who who protested a little! It cost C&T their five star. Bur well done for C&Ts social distancing arrangements in their spacious garden area. The food, when it arrived, was delicious. so all in all very enjoyable,. The car park was full, but there is overflow space further down the lane.There was no advance reservations but plenty of space available. Also v friendly staff.We will be back!

Huge garden with lots of seating and really great covid 19 safety precautions. Fantastic food. Some days they accept bookings but some days they don’t. May be to do with the “Eat in” deal.

Staff were friendly and attentive. We were only going to stay for a couple of drinks but ended up having starters, mains and 8 pints later we were there beyond kicking out time! It was really busy and they seemed a bit understaffed to cope with the amount of customers but still maintained an excellent standard of speed of service and hospitality. They were even as hospitable after closing, allowing for extra toilet visits and offering up various travel solutions home. The food and drink were excellent but I can’t recommend the team enough!

We've been to the pub a fair few times in normal times and it's always been great but the take-away service during lockdown has been fantastic with no drop in quality at all and they have also now become my local fishmonger . Can't wait til they reopen and hope the fish orders will continue. Great place.

Wr have been to the Cart & Horses a number of times over the past few years and we have always had an excellent experience, fantastic food (BIG portions) and great service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we decided to order a takeaway last night for my wife’s birthday. We ordered the chicken wings, potato skins, chicken burger,fish n chips, peppered steak pie, suet steak & kidney pie, cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and brownie. Arrived home with our order and food was piping hot tasted absolutely amazing and once again BIG portions. I cannot recommend this place enough.Thanks Cart & Horses you never let us down.An absolutely first class effort in how you have responded to changing the way you run your business in the current climate.

We chose the roast Pork it was a great meal with large portions and loads of meat and vegetables cooked to perfection. Just call and order on line, drive into car park at allotted time slot and the meal is delivered to your car. This pub is miles from anywhere and they have changed their business model to cope with being closed due to Covid19. They sell fresh fish, veg, meat, groceries, and a full menu for takeaway. Well done for thinking outside the box and being extremely enterprising and carrying on despite all the obstacles. Facebook marketing was superb. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for now and when they reopen.

Brilliant service from this pub, doing amazing take away and groceries, got brilliant customer service from the young lad that was delivering to our cars really polite and good looking as a bonus also Curtis and Ian have gone out there way to make the village and local areas have acess to essentials well done boys

Highly recommend this place. I'd be very happy if this was my local. Good pub grub, great portions and very tasty. The staff were very friendly & helpful. They've just started doing breakfasts too so we'll be back for that very soon. I would suggest booking as it gets very busy

have been to this resturant now three times. each time has been excellent. food was cooked to prefection. the staff really make you feel special and put you at ease and make you feel very welcome.

Had lunch there yesterday 26/2/20 after a walk through the woods on Chipperfield common with our dog. Usually very busy but managed to get a table easily. Staff very friendly and attentive. The menu is large and varied and my partner had half rack of ribs and I had chicken curry pie, both meals were excellent. The menu is large and varied and we both chose the chocolate and honeycomb cheesecake which was to die for, highly recommended. The staff even gave our dog, treats from a jar on the bar. Great food, two large glasses of Pino and two pints of Estelle, £50, great value.
