Carron Restaurant in Highland

Terrible from start to finish! Service was ok but not very friendly, food was absolutely shocking. We got 2 toasties both of which were wafer thin made with the cheapest bread and totally tasteless! included was a token gesture of salad which was well past its sell by date and 3 stale tortilla crisps. I hate to say this but I’ve never seen anything as bad. Even on departure we were just about ignored whilst trying to pay. Having lived on Skye now for over a year and having sampled most of the restaurants and cafes around the area we can definitely say this is not what we expected given the standards we have received everywhere else. Having owned many successful businesses ourselves we hope you use this feedback in a positive way and make the many changes needed.

Tasteful food in an impressive scenario. The perfect place for eating in your visit to the Highlands. A charming cottage welcomed us with very good local cuisine. We were delighted.

We stopped on our journey for lunch and this place is on the main road. The service was very attentive and staff very happy. We ordered tea eith haddock and chips. We were given a large pot with real tea leaves plus extra hot water. The fish was enormous, cooked well with no bones and the batter was lovely and crispy. The tartar sauce appeared to be home made too. There were plenty of other menu choices as well as sweet treats.

We stopped here on our way to Skye. Definitely a great place to stop. Even although a bus load of tourists had just left, the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. A lovely pot of “real” tea, good coffee and delicious scones. Will visit again.

Stopped here yesterday. Was incredibly busy but we waited for a table and extremely glad that we did. Fantastic lunch with local produce and everything was delicious. Really great choice for my vegan daughter aswell. Staff extremely friendly despite it being very busy but we were happy just to relax and wait. Highly recommended.

On holiday near Plockton, we had difficulty finding somewhere good for lunch in the area but Carron Restaurant solved the problem. Excellent food at a reasonable price. Hubby said it was the best fish and chips he had all holiday.

We stopped off here for lunch on our way home from Skye. Our dog was welcomed happily, which is a plus for us. The people were nice and friendly and the service quick. Food was very tasty, the chips were a little undercooked for my taste, but the husband loved them, but this is my personal preference and doesn’t reflect the lovely food.

This restaurant is well situated on the main road between between Lochcarron and Kyle of Lochalsh, as there are few other eateries around this area. The quality of the food (main meals and smaller meals/snacks) are of a good quality. Prices are perhaps slightly on the high side, especially the starters and hot drinks (the hot drinks should be less expensive if you have just had a main meal). Service was good, but the restaurant was quiet when we visited.

This review relates to pre-arrival and an absolute lack of customer interest and care being demonstrated by the owners / staff. We have a special birthday on the day in question and shaped hotel and meal bookings round this day. The meal at The Carron was booked through their designated system Open Table and it was confirmed so all hotel bookings were then confirmed on the back of it. Some days later we received a blunt message via Open Table stating they wouldnt be open on that night so the booking would be cancelled. I immediately emailed back via Open Table stating that wasnt helpful as they clearly hadnt marked out their booking system and asked for recommendations so we could resolve. The owner / staff have totally ignored this request and I see they have now closed for a spell this info only recently having appeared on their Website. I understand mistakes can be made but it is the effort to resolve that counts - this team are clearly not interested in giving customer service pre arrival so what will they be like when you walk in the door? Obviously time off is more important to them than customer care - so be it we will go somewhere else and I dare say others reading this will be so influenced.

We ate here twice during our stay in lochcarron as our hotel restaurant was closed for the season. We also popped in for a coffee after visiting the wonderful Attadale gardens up the road. The owners here are very welcoming and produce some fabulous food. They have put a lot into making a trip here a lovely experience. The first evening we enjoyed butterflied breaded prawns for starters - delicious! Both my scampi and my husband’s Cajun chicken absolutely lovely. The following day we both had fish and chips - once again tasty. Great Eton mess too. Easy parking and very easy to get to being on a main road. Very reasonably priced and such a friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Our tour group stopped here, it was raining when we arrived for a mid-morning break of Scottish shortbread, soup and a cup of Highland tea. It is a cozy & lovely place. The tea and cookies were both delicious and the server was wonderful, can't wait to return!

Don't be put off by the signage from a past era. A cosy place and attentive staff, and a variety of seating areas. I was only sorry that because of circumstances I couldn't eat in today, but based on the quality of the cuppa and the tray bakes I took away, and just the look of the place, I'll be back, and next time, with better planning and more time I'll browse the interesting whisky and glassware selection. Met family and grandkids at the Carron today for pre-booked lunch. Still legal though we can't go into each other's houses...... It's a halfway house between our two homes so a great place to meet.Been lots of times before. Great location and nice ambience. Food excellent as ever. Great menu choices for adults and for the kids aged 9 and 11.Were offered the use of their lounge after lunch for coffee with really comfortable sofas and gave our grandson his 9th birthday present - big smiles all round as we knew it was what he wanted!Restaurant obeying all the Covid rules immaculately but it didn't get in the way. We have been three times whilst on holiday for a week. First time for lunch, second time for afternoon tea and third time for an evening meal. Each time we have visited the service and the food have been outstanding. The Haggis bites were gorgeous and the venison burgers were amazing. Other members of our group had the rack of ribs, scampi, and beef burgers. Everyone agreed that the food and service was first class. Very friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us each time we visited. I would highly recommend that you visit as you will not be disappointed!Roll on my next Scotland trip as I will definitely be coming back.

Just had a wonderful meal at Carron restaurant this evening. My friend had the venison steak in a berry sauce which she said was delicious, my husband had the smoked salmon salad and chips which were proper potato chips and not frozen ones and I had the chicken stuffed with haggis with a delicious creamy whiskey sauce. Was so nice to find an eating establishment that had more variety than the usual fish and chips or burgers on its menu. We will definitely be back as not only were the meals nice but so were the staff

Whilst on holiday in the area, our family friends told us here for evening meal and it was a really lovely meal. The service at the Carron was lovely and we enjoyed the meal and experience thoroughly. The quiz place mats definitely kept us occupied when waiting for courses. Lovely location too even though the weather for us was typically Scottish :) we will be back again for sure! Thank you for a lovely meal!

Possibly the best smoked salmon salad I have ever had! Husband had the scallops - also delicious and then we shared a rack of lovely tender ribs. Very friendly and helpful waitress and a nice cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

My boyfriend and I had dinner there during our Scottish holidays and we both agreed this was the best dinner we’ve had. The place itself had a great buzz whilst still following guidelines for guests and staff to be safe. Food was excellent! Everything was fresh and very tasty.I can not recommend this restaurant enough, we were so lucky they still had availability when we called them to book a table the same day!

As new dog owners we have been searching out all the dog friendly places in the area with outside seating. Found this gem of a place and booked well in advance to ensure a table whilst Covid restrictions remain in place. Was thrilled to be shown to their one bamboo gazebo with heat lamps and a view of the Loch, so we were able to avoid the midges which have been awful this year. Orders are by QR code and service prompt and extremely friendly. Our 4 month old Jack Russell was well and truly fussed over and did not want to leave. A great selection of food at good prices and would highly recommend if you are in the area. Make time to visit nearby Attadale Gardens.

We had dinner here doing the NC500 during Covid-19 restricyions. We went with our dig and ate in the outdoor gazebo, which was complete with Heather. Both the food and service were outstanding and we would highly recommend to anyone doing the route or just visiting the Higjlands.Great local beer the Red Cow!

Had a great dinner here and liked it so much that I came back the next night! Staff were very helpful in fitting me in, and carefully adhered to social distancing guidelines. Food was tasty, plentiful, and well-presented. Diverse menu with good fish options and vegetarian dishes. Great modern Scottish cuisine and the helpful attitude of the staff in testing times made this a stand-out for me.

We happen-chanced into the Carron as it was the only restaurant we came across on a late night drive in some nasty weather. The restaurant wasn't open, and owner John was busy repainting the dining area. Still, he sensed our desperation and invited us in for a meal. His wife promptly came down stairs and whipped up the most delicious meal for these weary travelers. Felt like home, and John & his wife couldn't have been more sweet and caring. We will never forget this place or the two wonderful souls that operate their restaurant with love.

The menu is quite extensive but we came in for coffee and we had a scone and a whisky loaf and both were really tasty. Many different samples of homemaking so we had difficulty choosing what to have. Excellent friendly and helpful service with great views from our table across the loch.

Booked an evening meal here,two adults and three children We adults ate from the specials board and the kids from the children's menu.Food was beatifully presented,portions were generous and tasted delicious.Our hosts were lovely and made us feel very welcome,even bringing out experiamental chocolate souffle for the children to try.The wine list is good,and for me the icing on the cake was the number of good single malt whiskies on offer(tastings are available to purchase).You can also purchase your whisky and Highland and Island gin.Wish we had somethind as good near home,will definately go back if in the area again.

Had an evening meal in the Carron Restaurant on the last day of our short break. We had the haggis bites which were beautiful with a light batter, mini oatcakes and a homemade chutney. Venison cobbler for the main which was delicious. A real gem of a restaurant. Served by the owners who took the time to come over and chat to us. Very welcoming. Will definitely be going back and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting that area.
