Got a take out on a Saturday night. It took about 2 hours for delivery. I called after 1 hour 30 minutes and was told it would be another 30 minutes. They clearly forgot about the order. Food still isn't here so yet to be determined

My go to for pizza. The food is good and they have the best chips in the town. Staff are friendly and always smiling and laughing. I just wish they would invest and renovate the restaurant as it's been the same for Many years now and very tired inside

This place is famed amongst my Northern Irish family and I have only recently been able to visit, on previous trips home COVID was happening and the other time we tried to order a take away but the wait was too long. To finally be able to visit properly and sit inside and have the full experience is something else. It never clicked that the name related to trains I thought the old fashioned horse drawn things. The service is excellent, cheery staff and made to feel very welcome. The food is something else, I went for a gourmet don pizza after hearing so much about it and it did not disappoint, it's packed with flavour and so filling, I had a nine inch one and still couldn't eat it all, my partner went for a roast beef, and the beef was amazing, full of flavour and cooked to perfection, I nearly regretted my choice. Then came the bill just over £30 for 2 these prices don't happen in the UK. It's somewhere I will definitely be going back to.

This beloved Bistro, has been opened for a gd few yrs in Larne Town. Sadly all services have gone down hill fast as 3 yrs. No one seems to care anymore, money is there gain now, you can't blame every damned thing on the COVID. That's what there excuse would be, just like most places do now, no matter what field!

Very cool restaurant! The booths made from train seating was very unique. The service was great and the food was amazing. I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned!

I live in Larne and would occasionally use Carriages and would recommend it to any visitors and locals alike. The food is freshly cooked so yes, you do have to wait a few minutes. I had the chicken Maryland which was lovely and fresh, the pizzas are also great! Staff are friendly and helpful. If you enjoy a beer it's also fully licensed !

From the outside it looks like it's vacant a tatty facia with letter's missing off name. Pizzas weren't bad but the rest of the food was mediocre at best. Service was haphazard with drinks served in glasses which should have been condemned to an antique stall. Wasn't busy for a reason. Needs overhauled 👎

First time visited this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent and it was best chicken fillet burger I’ve had in a long time and chips were nice thick chunks! Loads of sauce available too which was great. Highly recommend

Was in on a Friday evening and it wasn't too busy. Nice cosy place with Nice food and pleasant staff.

The owner is passionate about his establishment......fantastic food...a busy thriving spot,simply because it's good honest fare,at a truly fair price.

4 off us dined and food was very good and reasonably priced.no complaints about table service or waiting time and will definitely come back.

We came here on the recommendation of a local hotel where we we’re staying. Delicious food, stuffed mushrooms, pizzas, salmon tagliatelle. Portions were very generous so we were able to take the leftovers back with us. Friendly staff and good value.

The food was amazing and the service was a completely different the class to what I would consider to be the "acceptable standard". Even the staff were brilliant especially sandy and Lauren they gave us a night that surpassed perfect. Thank you guys so much for the quality, presentation and pleasant service. Until next time

Carriages is always on the money. I have dined in, collected and received deliveries from Carriages and they are all perfect. You can wait a long time for delivery but thats a sign of its popularity. Coronavirus 2020 Update: - Carriages continues to hit the mark when open. You can still get deliveries and pick up collections at Carriages. They accept cash and card and are open from around 5pm each day until 10pm with the exception of Monday which is closed all day (such a pity) as their rival closes all day Monday also, handing all their customers to Dominos to be won over by speed and efficiency and fast deliveries offered there. Open 7 days a week, rotate staff to facilitate this and give nothing to your rivals, retain the top spot!

Friendly atmosphere and good food

Had a great meal with friends in Carriages Larne. Always love the train carriage seats! The food is reliably good, I had my long term favourite, salmon tagliatelle and it was as great as it always has been. The turkey and ham is also good, and the volcano pepperoni pizza is another favourite. Lovely little extras like the garlic bread and the pork ribs just added to the meal. It’s good quality and good value. Looking forward to going back!

Chicken cold cauliflower black potatoes lumpy and cold staff rude won't be back in anytime soon I just hope I don't end up sick because someone can be bored to cook

I just love Carriages! Every time I come back to Northern Ireland, I have to go for a fillet steak. One of the best! Lovely, helpful waitresses and delicious food. I have my steak blue and it’s one of the few places that always gets it right. Definitely worth a visit. Also very reasonable. Thank you!

I was in last night with friends and we had the most amazing meal. Everything was so tasty , well presented and piping hot. Deserts looked awesome but we could hardly finish main course let alone have a 2nd one. You were spoilt for choice from the extensive menu, ranging from pasta, pizza, steaks to scrumptious looking dinners. Staff were very friendly and attentive, we were looked after by Heather who could not have done enough for us. I have been getting pizzas delivered throughout lockdown and they are also the best ever. Will definitely be back. Well done Carriages.

Carriages is a well established local pizza bar and restaurant. We use it more for occasional home deliveries but also periodically sit in. It’s a quirky interior and homely atmosphere. The food is what you expect from a local pizza restaurant and consistently of good quality. Not 5 star but tasty and very acceptable. The staff are attentive and prices are reasonable. Worth a visit even just for the decor!

Dined 2 nights at Carriages Restaurant. Roast Beef & Chicken Maryland. Have dined here many times over past years. Food was delicious, hot and served promptly by waitress. Price was very reasonable and well worth more. Restaurants in Larne are few & far between for an evening meal but as always, Carriages did not disappoint. Don’t pay attention to the few negative comments - some people in this world are never pleased.

The place itself is really nice.. Love the decor and the theme related posters.. The staff were nice and friendly.. The service was ok... Place was a wee bit drafty and cold at times.. we ordered one well done and one medium rare.. I was surprised that the lady serving us the meal never asked who's was what.. Anyway all was OK because we got exactly what we asked for... Finished that all up then waited about 10mins for the scotch whisky coffee.. That didn't arrive at all.. So instead of going up and asking for it.. I decided not to bother and just head home as I was feeling shattered.. Basiclt didn't want to make a fuss.. However Normally when there's a special on.. You get that special.. So in a nut shell... The service at the start was nice and friendly.. But after that.. There was none.. Not even at the end when paying for the Bill.. Was I made aware of the scotch whiskey coffee.. Maybe it was getting late and close to closing time and the staff just thought.. Hope they don't want the coffee.. Pitty.. As the place is really nice too.. 2 stars

Decor was outdated. Staff were unwelcoming. Food was not appetising. Definitely would give this place a miss. Not worth the time or money!

Service was very slow and staff were not very friendly as well as the decor being very outdated and shabby. The food itself was drenched in grease and was not appetising at all. Over all experience was not good and has put me off returning’

Havign coeliac disease it is difficult to trust restaurants but Carriage's have excellent knowledge and menu variation. Their gluten free pizza is the only gluten free pizza I like and the chips are also great. I go here every 2 weeks on a Sat night for a takeaway and it as well as my partner's normal pizza are always perfect!

Service slow...waited 45mins for our order (sit in) and we were the only customers...put me off going back...

Was a bit apprehensive going into the restaurant as I was on my own attending a Cat Show in Larne. The staff were very friendly and let me have a newspaper so I didn't feel I was eavesdropping on the adjacent foursome. A very nice meal with ample portions. I had fish & chips and was glad I didn't have a starter. Would recommend the Spanish Merlot. Srvice a little slo but felt the meal was specially cooked.

Was in larne for 4 weeks working, living in flat above carriages, so was in basically every night, first all the staff are excellent really friendly and know what they,re doing. The food is great , you wont leave hungry trust me, i went through most of the menu and it was top notch, salmon tagliatelle, fillet steak , pork tenderloins, pizzas were all excellent, try homemade chips as well they are superb , the owner iggy is a great guy as well a real character,so thanks heather, lauren, michelle, deirdre, rest of staff and iggy of course for treating us so well, hope we meet again sometime, cheers guys

Superb place large plates of food . Beautiful setting in the railway carriage and last but defo not least we have to headline Heather who waited on us ,she is an absolute star whom of my son of11 years old instantly fell in love with , defo recommend this eatery for food and friendliness

What a fantastic restaurant don’t go anywhere else this place is great- the staff are all friendly and efficient, the food is amazing (8 friends from London - all choose something different and all of us were impressed) so much so that we had a takeaway the next night (again lovely) and are talking about coming back on our last night!

Working in Larne for a couple of days and was recommended Carriages Bistro as close by to our wonderful b&b; - the Seaview on Curran Road. Steak night on Thursday - I probably should’ve ordered rare but still very happy and went back for pizza on the Friday which really was excellent. Big thanks to Michelle, Lauren and crew, always makes a difference to have nice staff. Overall very accommodating, good value and felt like a little home from home. I might prefer a different lager than the Tennents but the Guinness was certainly good and we’ve got pizza left over for the long journey back tomorrow. Loved the diner/rail carriage decor and great music, will certainly be back next visit. Best wishes to Carriages - choo choo!

Had amazing family meal. Had steak, ribs and pork which were all delicious. Wide range of children's options to choose, we had the excellent pizza's. Wonderful Chilean white wine. Staff couldn't do enough for you, warm and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

Staying in Ballater and came across this lovely restaurant.

Really poor experience which is a shame because we often go here for food as it is normally good. I got a prawn cocktail starter and my other half got a sirloin.

Appalling service, delivery over 1hr 40mins, food was delivered and was absolutely freezing. Not only that but I was argued with when we called up to complain (after waiting nearly 2 hours we expected hot food) however apparently because the packaging is warm, the food must be? Made out to be lying, and are still starving as they demanded food returned in order for money back. Of course some of our party had already began eating due to the wait, so out of the £30 we were refunded £9 and still have no food. Carriages will NEVER have my custom again. If zero was an option it wouldn’t even have my 1 star.

Loved the fantastic atmosphere back in our train carriage. Excellent pizzas and a good choice of other dishes. Wine is good now and smashing value. Nua prosecco is not to my taste, but lots of places serve it. Generous desserts and lovely service. Well done to the team. So nice to come back when I am home in Larne.

Always visit here when I'm in larne, if I can't visit I get a take away. Well worth a visit. Food is amazing, I can honestly say I have never tasted a pizza as nice as the Gourmet Don! The garlic mushrooms are also great!

My wife and son and I had an excellent meal in Carriages last week. We had starters and a main course each. Excellent value. I had prawn cocktail, my wife, garlic bread and my son, cheesy garlic bread. We had pork loin, roast chicken and a pizza for our main courses. All the main courses were hot and delicious. The service was good and the food was reasonably priced.

I spent the last week in Italy - the promised land of pizza and pasta, continued my holiday in Northern Ireland. I ended up having the pasta of my life here in Carriages, Larne. Wow, the best tagliatelle I've ever tasted. Maybe not the most al dente, but the combination of tastes was absolutely perfect. This place deserved the fullest of recommedations a picky home chef can humbly give.

We had a superb meal here last night . The food was served piping hot . I had a pepperoni pizza , never had so much pepperoni on a pizza before . My husband had the pork fillet done in a Bushmills pepper sauce , again very generous portion and tasted great . Others had spaghetti carbonara small portion on request which was delish and Roast sirloin which is highly recommend . All n all a very good experience . If I lived here I would frequent this place every week . Also very reasonably priced too .

Pork tender loin was a nice filling home cooked style dinner with nice roast potatoes. Cider seemed a bit flat , but staff and service efficient and friendly.

Had never even heard of Larne! We ended up here because of the only available caravan park in the whole Northern Ireland it seemed! Just 5 minutes down the road (suggested by the friendly owner of the caravan park) is Carriages. We ordered potato skins, carbonara and the chicken/pineapple/banana dish with the BEST corn sauce ever. Although my carbonara filled me up to the brim, my husbands chicken dish was PERFECT. Our waitress was extremely kind and helpful and gave us suggestions - I’m sure because of her we were able to try 3 types of potatoes! Does it get more Irish?

We were recommended The Carriages by our B&B; and we would highly recommend it ourselves! We went in on a Monday night and was served in our carriage like table, by the very friendly Heather and Zoe. Without asking, they brought out some colouring for our two year old who was ecstatic to see her favourite characters on there.

Been here and had takeaway a few timed now. Last takeaway was ordered “in store” and detailed the need for it to be gluten free and vegetarian (these are for allergies as opposed to life style choices).

Called into Carriages for a takeaway, having last visited about ?10 years ago when I lived in Larne. My fond memories were not disappointed. 9 inch Hawaiian for only £6. Lots of topping. Quick service - within about 15/20mins of ordering. Staff were friendly. Much tastier and better value for money than the pizza chains found in every town. Thanks Carriages!

Went for Sunday lunch had ulster roast beef dinner with 1/2 champ and 1/2 garlic chips and side salad roast beef just melted in your mouth champ was lovely garlic chips was homemade side salad was in a small bowl a lot we ordered mushrooms French fryed onions and coleslaw the extra sides were fantastic the children's meals was big portions ordered desserts strawberry eaton mess cheesecake white chocolate roulade and chocolate fudge cake desserts were out of this world all in all fantastic meal would recommend it to everyone

I used to get all of pizza from here, I always find that local pizzeria's are much better than commerical pizzerias however as of lately I decied to try another pizzeria and I've just fallen in love with that one, however Carriages is still a great one to use.

Große Auswahl, Preis/Leistungsverhältnis in Ordnung; Portionen groß. Wir hatten Pizza, Lasagne, zwei verschiedene Huhn-Gerichte; es gab nirgends etwas auszusetzen, auch den Kindern hat's geschmeckt. Personal sehr höflich und zuvorkommend. Witziges Interieur: ein Teil des Lokals ist ein altes Zugabteil.

Our first meal here was fantastic by all counts. So good, we went back a second night but boy what a difference. Different waitresses and a lot of takeaway phone orders meant we waited 50 minutes for the starter. When it arrived there was mould on the bread with the soup. Yuck! The rest of the meal was fine but perhaps Sunday is a night to be avoided.

This restaurant is very quirky as it is furnished as a train carriage. It is a very inviting atmosphere and the staff are very helpful. The There is a varied range of dishes, and the food is of an excellent standard. I highly recommend this restaurant

Despite living in Larne a long time this was the first time I had tried Carriages,talk off long waits to be served always put me off a bit.When we entered my partner and myself were quickly seated in the rail seat part of the restaurant. As others have explained the restaurant is basically split into two. One section is your standard restaurant tables and the other side is made up of old seats (and windows) from an old train.My partner ordered a Carbonarra and being not so adventurous I went for a fish and chip. The wait for the meal to come out was longer than the average wait time but not so extreme that it annoyed me so that was a good plus point and indeed the girls serving were very polite and professional.My partners Carbonarra left a bit to be desired, it was extremely salty from the ham being used and the chese sauce was much to thick and creamy for the dish making it more like a very thick porridge than a carbonarra. My fish and chips were a ,mixed bag as well. The chips were real chips and very nice which is a real treat when eating out at night in larne as they are usually frozen in other restaurants. The mushy peas i have to say were perhaps the best i have ever tasted, but, alas the fish like every other restaurant and fish and chip shop in Larne was bland and very tasteless which was a real dissapointment as it was cooked very well.When finished we had to wait quite a while to get anyones attention as we were looking for desert. Unfortunately when we did get their attention the range of deserts were incredibly poor with only a choice of 4. This really isnt enough for a restaurant. So all in all a mixed bag as i said. Would i go again?, yes i would certainly try it again but the carbonarra and fish would not be my first choice.

We were told in advance by our guest house landlady that this place did good food but the service was slow so it has a reputation. When we went here to eat it was exactly like that.Food: The menu had lots of choice and it's reasonably priced. We had pizza and they were both actually very good - deep pan dough, good tomato sauce, real mozzarella, good selection of toppings. Desserts were good as well. I had the roulade. Great big portion and tasty.Decor: One area is decked out like the carriage of a train hence the name. If you get into this area you get a massive, very comfy chair.Service: Unfortunately the waitress on that night wasn't very highly motivated. She came to take orders when she had to and brought things over when ready but everything was a bit slow considering she only had 3 tables. She kept sitting down with another colleague between jobs and didn't reset any vacated tables the whole time we were there. There was a table opposite us that had been vacated that had a tip of about 5 pound coins. When we left 90 minutes later she still hadn't seen it or cleared the table. We weren't delayed unduly on the night but I can see why they'd be slow on busy nights.

Went here for the first time earlier this month. The pizzas were excellent and the service was good, with friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant has one area decked out in the style of a NIR railway carriage hence the name. Overall good food and value!

Been a few months since last review so thought I should report on saturday 22nd april visit.Had the roast beef for a change while other half had gourmet don pizza.The roast was beautiful, came in a generous portion, accompanied by gravy, carrots, garden peas and saute potatoes.top notch meal and really enjoyed.Wife had chips accompanying her pizza and got the thumbs up as well.Been coming here regularly for around 12 or so years now and one thing that has never been on the menu is a homemade cheesecake.nearly every other place we visit provides a cheesecake with some gorgeous homemade ones on offer.SO, COME ON IGNA, give your customers what they want, put a homemade cheesecake on the menu, even on a trial basis, and we will be the first to try.There's a challenge for you! :)

Lovely decorated inside with all sorts of pictures referring to trains, hence the name Carriages. Nice cozy atmosphere and the seats next to the kitchen area would make you think you were on an old time locomotive heading off to someplace remote. The meals were good and filling and the pizzas come in a wide variety of flavours and even an Ulster Fry pizza! You definitely wouldn't see that in any other place but Carriages in Larne.

Carriages has been in Larne for around 30 years and is still providing good food both sitting in and takeaway. Carriages has old train seats in one part of the restaurant and I always try to get a table there for the novelty. You can't go wrong with the pizzas. The American Hot, Meaty Bootleg and Seafood are all good. Main courses include lasagne and other pasta dishes including a very nice salmon tagliatelle. I always get a nice, quality meal and enjoy a night in Carriages. The takeaway service is always good. It's popular for takeaway at weekends so order early.
