Carob Tree in Camden

Another lovely meal at the Carob tree. We come here at least once a month and it never fails to be amazing. Service and food is flawless as always. Pleasant lunch today from beginning to end, even though they were super busy a top service!

Finalmente hice una reserva, fui al restaurante, esperé mucho tiempo por la comida, parte del pedido estaba mal, algunos se quedaron fuera del pedido. Solo tomé una bebida con la comida ya que el servicio fue malo. La comida no está mal, pero no es genial. No hay mentas para terminar su comida, la hospitalidad es una basura que no se hace sentir bienvenido. Es una pena que haya cambiado de griego a turco, no es mediterráneo.Buena suerte si te vas.

I was visiting the area with my newly transitioned girlfriend as it was her first time in a restaurant since the op. She was thirsty, I was thirsty. We entered the Carob tree and a lady with a bleach white wig , allergic reaction on face and over lined lips denied us of water. It was because they closed the grill. She was so rude to us and made us feel uncomfortable. She said we couldn’t have water. It’s a necessary item - I was going to pay. So rude. I hope she heard when I whispered Miss piggy under my breath.

Fantastic food, even more lovely staff, starter and mains all divine, thanks again! We’ll be on again soon!

I had a wonderful dinner at The Carob Tree with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The food, with a Turkish slant, was delicious and the portions were very generous. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. I cannot praise the staff and the food enough. The restaurant is as superb as it was in the days of the original owner, Louie, and it has been restored to its former glory after a period in the doldrums under a different owner. It deserves to do well.

We go here regularly for weekend lunch or early supper and always have a lovely meal - mezze and fresh fish. It’s delicious and the staff are super nice and we find it very kid friendly.

I think my title says it all.When it was owned and run by Leon and family it was a wonderful Greek Cypriot restaurant, especially the grilled fresh fish...and it really was freshNow it's Mediterranean, whatever that means. Service still warm and friendly, but food very average and nothing special. That's why the place was empty on a Sunday lunchtimeIt's perfectly OK if you live in the area but otherwise I wouldn't bother, especially if you're hoping it's as good as the old days. It ain't!Great pity

beautiful sunday afternoon, lovely location overlooking hampstead fields....we sat outside with the sun beaming upon us....we chose this restaurant because the 'A' board at the entrance offers a starter and main course for 9pounds between 12am and 3:30pm.we asked the waitress if we would both have the lunchtime special but were told we could not because the offer is just during the week and not at weekends...the 'A' board does not state this and when we pulled the waitress up about it she was dismissive saying that the 'A' board is usually in the street outside and not at the entrance...as if to say that we should have known this!!!so.... no problem for us, we were given the real menu and chose 2 vegetarian main courses which both come with a soft drink and fries. when the food came there were no fries, and when we pulled the waitress up about this she told us that the menus are 'wrong' and that the fries is a printing error. however she then got fries for us. but just one bowl and not two. a very decent meal was let down by terrible service and a nonchalant attitude from both the 2 waitresses that served us....i suggested that they should have told us about this when they delivered the menus to our table and then there would not have been a problem, but the waitress was not interested....and her feeble apology most insincere....we didn't leave a gratuity...this felt wierd...i do not recall ever not leaving a tip...which i guess one could take to mean that this was the worst service/management i have ever experienced.i just checked the online menu and the prices and choices are slightly different from reality.....

Restaurante bajo nueva administración, ¡muy superior al anterior! ! ! Excelente comida y servicio. Hermosa decoración también! El personal es encantador, especialmente la camarera principal. Visité en noviembre para un servicio excepcional de comida de graduación y atendió bien a un gran grupo. Comida y servicio fenomenal. Gran joya local en Highgate. Regresamos a este restaurante para el almuerzo especial hoy y fue igual de fabuloso. Volveremos durante el descanso festivo y en el Año Nuevo.

How to ruin a restaurant . Having been there in the past under previous ownership it was superb, food and service excellent. Now both are awful. We were 7 people and all left most of the food. In the past the place was full on Friday but last Friday virtually empty. We complained to the waitress but no manager appeared. I leave the whole of the main course but the bill was not adjusted. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

New experience Our first experience with Turkish cuisine, it was wonderful. Service was very fine as well. Would go back.

We had a lovely meal to celebrate my birthday. The waitress was very friendly and offered us extra starters. The food was excellent and we were also offered post-dinner drinks!

We went to this Turkish restaurant the day it had reopened with new owners. The food was just brilliant - we know Turkish food well and it was just amazing. the manager was very attentive and we were made welcome even if we went in before the proper opening time during lunch.

We stumbled into The Carob Tree after a walk over the Heath & Parliament Hill for an early dinner. The Manager welcomed us in and informed us it was under new management. Aside from the food being wonderful - from warm meze, mains and deserts and the little extras given. All members of staff were lovely, stopping for chats in between courses, introducing themselves and showing off that warm and friendly Turkish hospitality.

Fantastic restaurant for birthday celebration. They really do pull out all the stops for this. Great staff and very good authentic Greek food. This place is packed so book to get a table

We were the first customers under the new management of the Carob Tree.The service was friendly and attentive and the Turkish food very tasty.The lamb moussaka was a generous portion,homemade and delicious.My lamb shish was tender and moreish.All in all a most pleasant lunchtime experience.I highly recommend this excellent Turkish restaurant.

Наш счёт 35евро: греческий салат,жареный халуми( супер!),стифадо(но картофель был чипсы),мидии в вине(супер). 2пива. Всё достаточно вкусно. Теперь Но!: порции оч.маленькие. Блюда заявленные как от шефа- отсутствуют....в основном помещении курить запрещено,вай фай используется от соседнего кафе,долго не несли меню,и счёт. Морепродукты все из заморозки,кроме мидий,сардин и анчоусов. Ещё раз- порции оч.маленькие. Обстановка уютная.

La comida aquí era de un estándar bastante alto: shish de pollo, babaghanoush, calamares, y todas las salsas a base de tomate eran realmente buenas.

Visited for dinner on Sat evening. As ever, very good staff. Food is decent - fresh and lots of selection/specials. Would be nicer if the restaurant was full. Lacking some atmosphere. We will return.

Vine aquí para cenar con mi novia un sábado por la noche después de haber leído varias críticas positivas en Trip Advisor. La comida era espantosa. Teníamos los corazones de calamares y alcachofas para empezar. Los calamares eran definitivamente falsos, de baja calidad y probablemente de un paquete, acompañados de algo de mayonesa y una miserable ensalada. Los corazones de alcachofa parecían de una lata, con algunos cubos de zanahoria encima. Los corazones de alcachofas a la parrilla que recibes en un paquete de Waitrose o Co-op son de mejor calidad. El plato principal era de una norma similar: enviamos el moussaka de vuelta. El haloumi era agradable, pero seamos sinceros, ¡es difícil hacerlo mal!

Haven’t been for a long time as moved out the area. The food is now very average. Service was good-polite, friendly. The meat and falafel however were so much worse than I remember and were over cooked and dry. It used to be divine. Seems things have changed..

It’s been an incredibly long time since I’ve had service that’s compelled me to write a review, but Carob Tree absolutely deserves it. We hosted a small bridal shower at the restaurant, and the owner really accommodated us by helping us set up, welcoming our guests and just being warm to us all overall. The food was wonderful too and there’s a great variety of options for vegetarians.

This is the first time i have ever reviewed a restaurant, as I don't normally feel the need to do this, even though we eat out a lot.

A mixture of Greek and Turkish cuisine (Mediterranean) deliciously prepared and presented. Service was spot on, our waiter Farid, was very attentive and friendly!Definitely recommended!

Last time I reviewed here it was Greek this time Turkish and the meals, strikingly similar. Strange that two nations who historically enjoy warring with each other seem to enjoy almost identical food. Standard grub, no surprises,pleasantly served, available in a hundred other joints in N.London.

After a long wander through Highgate Cemetery, we were looking for a late lunch and, quite by accident, found one of the best mezze we have ever had. The space is modern but warm, the service charming, and the prices reasonable. Highly recommended.

A modern, comfortable restaurant with lots of choice and a helpful manager. Two chose the sharing Brill from the board and liked it. Vegetarian food was available. The manager let us try the drinks. One was happy with the Pinot Grigio. I opted for the slightly more expensive Prosecco. You can see the kitchen, should you wish to peer across the counter, always a good sign and adds to the liveliness. I enjoyed the hummus and mixed item starter, the lamb moussaka, and our mixed desserts, especially the figs stuffed with walnut and the baklava. Not cheap, but good for a special occasion.

My husband and I visited the Carob Tree in June, not having been there for some months. When we used to visit, we always had an incredibly warm welcome from the management. This is what made the restaurant special, although the food was always very fresh and very good.

The food was okay but more expensive than other similar places. The wait staff were mainly uninterested. They looked scornful when we chose starters and dishes to share to keep the cost down. We were the only customers at 7:30,though others came later. It’s not a restaurant I would go back to and my friends felt the same way.

I ordered a takeaway from Deliveroo - Not up to standard on any level, frozen falafel, the smallest bit of octopus - £9.00 the worst mixed grill ever, chips awful, there was nothing to recommend this place, and at a cost of £50.00 plus delivery. The Mousaka was not good either. I had no idea the place had changed hands - hitherto it was fantastic

Very disappointing meal, been here in the past and yes it was good and Greek, Sorry but standards have slipped and its not Greek - It’s a turkish restaurant - Managememt you should change your signage, As a Greek personally I like to eat pork ( All Greeks do ) so being a porkless greek Restaurant is frankly very very odd....

Enjoyed a delicious meal (party of 4) last Thursday night. Great fish and meat. Welcoming atmosphere. Andreea our waitress looked after us so well. We will be back!

We were glad we had booked as this greek restaurant was buzzing with people. Highlights of our visit were the grilled octopus and lamb shish, both cooked to perfection. Hard working staff were attentive and able to adjust an order to your taste. The markup on the greek wine seemed a little steep though plenty of choice from other areas.

We are so disappointed. The menu has changed for the worse. Wonderful fresh fish is no longer the draw. The ever changing blackboard has gone. The meat must be supplied by a cheaper provider given the taste and texture. The chefs have also changed. Service...

Excellent, delicious and plentiful, bass, butterfly prawns and calamari, spanakopita all perfectly cooked, very fresh. lovely simple greek salad. Baklava was crunchy, nutty and not over rich or over sweet, much enjoyed. Service was attentive and helpful. Air quality very good, the restaurantr smells clean...

Came here for a family birthday on Sunday lunchtime. Restaurant was busy with a nice atmosphere. Service was a bit slow to start with, but we had the mezze selection which was delicious and just kept coming! Very good value if you're in a group....

I travel all over the world and I eat in restaurants several times each week on average. This place is a gem. I consider myself very fortunate to live half a mile away and to have it as my local.

We went for lunch with another couple and had an amazing meal. We ordered meat maze for all four of us and it was more then enough. The outstanding dishes were the calamari, butterfly king prawns, greek salad (who knew salad could be this good with such a simple dressing) and the lamb. To be fair, even the dips were great. The staff were so attentive and really made the meal that much more enjoyable with their wonderful banter.

The experience I had at Carob Tree was nothing like that of the other reviewers. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday September 9th after a ramble on Hampstead Heath. We were very warmly met and received great service. We had never eaten here before so our host kindly explained the dishes and offered very helpful advice. We ordered several "small bite" dishes including the vegetable moussaka special. Everything was absolutely delicious. We were not rushed at all and encouraged to stay and linger over the wonderful food as long as we liked. I'd absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Date of visit : 10.09.17It was my first time in this restaurant, I went with some friends who are regulars and spoke very nicely about the place.We made a reservation for 8.30pm and once we got there we were told to order straight away because the kitchen was about to close... Long story short, the man who served us made lots of pressure so that we would leave asap; kept on starring at us, mumbling with a very annoyed attitude. The purpose of the night was having dinner, catch up and enjoy time with girlfriends; but this man (who looked like he was also in charge) made us feel so uncomfortable that we felt like being on our way as soon as we could and partially ruined the evening. The food was very nice but will not recommend this place.

I was a regular diner for years . I decided to take the family for lunch one Saturday lunchtime in August . Upon arrival we were greeted by a depressed looking waitress . She just kind of looked at us like "why are you here?" I decided to ignore this rather strange vibe and get on with hinting at the possibility of dining for lunch . I won't go into too much drama but it was very disappointing . Service , food quality , ambiance. It transpired that the usual owner no longer runs the restaurant. Big shame. Will not be returning.

This was booked as a last minute to celebrate a family birthday - so a mix of ages from young children to adults.The restaurant had modern and tasteful decor and was light and airy.We were warmly greeted by George who was funny and knowledgeable about his cuisine.We opted for a selection of starters which were delicious - and just seemed to keep on coming!For our mains we told George we'd like a selection of meats - he said 'leave it to me'. We were not disappointed with our decision to leave it to George. We had a sumptuous selection of grilled meats to feast on - all cooked beautifully and to perfection. To accompany the meat we had a selection of salads and rice.We would definitely return to this restaurant.

We decided to have dinner here to celebrate the birthday of one of our group of 8 women. I made an error in thinking we had booked an outside table and bought my dog along. This was a genuine error, but I was made to feel uncomfortable about it. I asked if the dog could sit under the table but I was told the restaurant would lose its license if it allowed this. I don't think this is true as several places have been very obliging and allowed her to sit under the table. The tone was quite hard. I took the dog home and returned to have dinner. There were only 6 water glasses laid for 8 of us but we did manage to get 2 more bought over. We did have to wait rather longer than usual to be served and in the end one of us got up and went and sorted the wine out herself. The person who took our order was clearly annoyed that we didn't all order main dishes, some of us ordered two starters, but we had already ordered starters for all of us to share as well. We felt pressurised to order more, but we stuck to our guns and in the end there was too much food and some was wasted. The lamb I ordered was delicious. The starters were standard fare.The waiter spontaneously bought over a slice of cake and encouraged us to sing happy birthday to our friend which was a nice touch. The price of the cake £3.95 was added to the bill.One of us checked the bill just before we paid. I don't usually do this but it was very lucky we did this time. Somehow or other a bottle of Pinot Grigio, some soft drinks and a few other things had been added that we didn't order or receive. The bill turned out to be £36.00 cheaper once the additional items had been removed. This was a saving of £4.20 for each of us.On the whole an experience I will not be repeating.

Been here loads of times. Staff are so friendly. Ambiance nice and relaxed but friendly. Food is generally good. My only peev this time was the portion sizes. there were five of us and we ordered Mezze. The dips which come first were tiny, not even a spoon full each. Why be so mean? I have been there before with 4 people and same size of those for 5. Come on...............don't cut corners on this kind of thing!

This restaurant has been one that we have visited both with family and friends. We absolutely love it. The staff are always very welcoming as well as very efficient and always have a smile no matter how busy they are. Food is absolutely divine, portions are plentiful and alway fresh. Flavours are delightful with homemade starters, fish that comes straight from the sea. This restaurant's quality has just got better since the new management has taken over. We do try to order different dishes but have never been disappointed. Definitely one of the best in the area, i totally recommend it.

We have been to this restaurant many times and have previously enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. I understand that there is a new owner there now so, the good news is that the food and service are still very good but something has changed regarding the atmosphere as on a Saturday night, it was very quiet and no 'buzz' about the place. I suppose the first clue to this might have been that we were able to get a table for 6+ for a Sat only 2 days before - unheard of in the past. Notwithstanding this, the food is good. If you order the sea bass, we found them very large and 1 was enough for 2 people BUT they were very boney. One in our party had the prawns and said the sea bass was better - personal choice. Nice touch for the complementary ice cream and baklava. We were the last ones out at about 11pmSadly we won't be returning as there are many other restaurant options to choose from.

We have been to this restaurant a number of times and never had a bad meal, this visit was no exception.Although essentially a Greek restaurant they do the most amazing fish. I had the Brill which is shared by 2 people amazing!Service is exce3llent as they always make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble, you even get a free dessert baclava at the end of the meal.

Luckily for me this is my "local" and I love it. Arguably in my opinion the best fish restaurant in London. Friendly efficient service and always impeccably fresh fish from Cornwall and delicious accompaniments. I have been many dozens of times and have never been disappointed even once. This lovely restaurant is my favourite place to eat and it's nearby. Brilliant! Great service from the owner, his family and the staff. Always so hospitable and friendly. A slick and atmospheric decor. Recommend the moussakas and the fish specials, particularly.

I love the Cypriot cuisine so having a hotel close to this place made it an easy choice. The food was mostly great and I would come back but suggest they consider a few small changes. The starter included a spicy Greek sausage - PLEASE do not throw it in the deep fryer. I also had a long wait because everyone showed up at the same time. That's fine but the sausage takes a star away. That's really poor and a waste of quality ingredients.

Having tasted Greek food from all over Greece and from my friends own barbecue/kitchen, I know how good it can be. Carob Tree is a good restaurant, nicely located, very cheap for what they give you (£25 for a meze is cheap and a huge quantity of food is bought out) and the interior is nice.It just doesn't seem to go that extra mile in impressing you in terms of flavour. The cold meze is standard dips and pitta etc. The fish course was great, especially the octopus.The Greek sausage was great, and the fritters were lovely too. However, the meat plate had very little meat and what was brought out wasn't impressive. The pork was chewy, chicken was over-cooked and NO LAMB!! So I can't give it any more than 3/5. Service charge was added on, which I never agree with, service was good and I would have tipped anyway.You won't be disappointed if you go here, nor will it stick in your memory for a particularly long time.

We went to carob tree for Mother's Day and we had an amazing time. The food was top quality, fantastic service and great atmosphere. We've been there twice so far and would definitely return.

Recently spent a Saturday night wth friends at this restaurant. It is conveniently located close to Parliament Hill occupying a prominent corner location.Staff are courteous and friendly and service on the whole was efficient, although not all the starters were served together and we had to wait a further 10-15 minutes for the hot starters, namely Falafel and Haloumi Cheese.It's a typical Greek restaurant with plenty of tantalising starters and a menu catering for a variety of tastes.The starters were very enjoyable although the first portion of pita tasted a bit dried out!The party chose a mix of main courses including either meat or fish. The meat looked appetising. My wife and I chose the sea bass (off the bone). Another member of the party had sea bream.The sea bass was presented lovely and looked a generous portion however it didn't matter whether it was served on/off the bone ..... there were too many bones which made it unpleasant to eat ...... I do recall visiting this place several years ago and wondered why we had never revisited .... and now i remember why!!Deserts are inclusive and include a very small portion of ice cream and a single raspberry each on a shared plateSo in summary .. a pleasant restaurant but i doubt I'll be returning again anytime soon! I'm sure the restaurant has a popular following and clientele and other customers reviews will be far more raving than mine .... and to a certain extent i cannot disagree with them.

Came here for my mums Birthday, food & service was great. We all had Meze it was lovely. Everything was very tasty, meats succulent. Staff were very friendly too. We will definitely be coming again. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant There was a good selection of fish dishes for mains.

I visited here two weeks ago with my family for anniversary food was fresh, I enjoyed my fish and meze, staff was helpful food lovely had the best evening quiet and good atmosphere.

Went on valentines, was seated literally next to another table tables were near enough kissing but to be expected during valentines. I ordered a bottle of water, 10mins later still nothing, but then I saw someone order a bottle of wine and they were served immediately as if to say there spending more on wine so will serve them first. Only got served because I had to look up at the waitress.We ordered 2 meze's to which the waitress asked special meze or normal meze, I'd never heard of special meze me being Cypriot its always just been meze so I asked what the difference was to which she replied in a rude and sarcastic manner. I also asked her for a straw to which she seemed bemused, she said a straw? When the fish dish arrived it was adequate but when the meat dish arrived I had to laugh, there were about 8-10 pieces of small pieces of meat where some seemed they had been chewed. I do really want to mention the fact that when the waiter or owner was bringing these meat dishes he stopped to talk to a table behind us so he kept us waiting, not a massive problem but then he decided to just drop the food on our table and walk off, he literally dropped the plates and walked off !. It seemed like they were dropping everything just for this one table.

Lovely atmosphere. The owner made us feel like long lost family. Good food with quick service. Nice gesture of complementary desserts. Great value evening. Many thanks.

Visited with friends on a Friday night and had the meze which as is usual for this kind of meal just kept on coming. We had 10 small dishes (dips, vegetables etc) along with pitta bread to start. This was followed by hot dishes of Halloumi, Loukanika (sausage), meatballs and falafel with a Greek salad. Then the fish course which was Calamari, a whole fish to share between 3 of us which was fresh and beautifully cooked and grilled butterflied king prawns in their shell. Finally we had the meat course which was cubes of several meats barbecued with rice. The meat was very tender however could have had a little more something to flavour it better. Finally a small piece of baclava with ice cream rounded off the meal. The food was excellent and well worth the reasonable bill at the end, and the service we received was good as well. The owner/manager also stopped to have a chat which was a nice touch. A definite good find and one I hope to return to.

As a Greek Cypriot, I have been to a fair few restaurants that serve mezes, traditional Greek food and more. Valentines is obviously a busy time, but the staff were quite rude, sarcastic and not efficient at all. Sad really, as they only attended on people/tables that were either buying a bottle of wine every second or because the individuals were regulars. We had to ask multiple times for things such as water, a straw and after a waiter just threw down our last portion of meze on the table it was the last straw. My boyfriend had to go physically ask if what was thrown onto our table was actually ours. The fish portion of this dish was lovely but the meat was unsatisfactory, the portion size was ridiculously small for the price you're paying per individual. We did have a nice chat with the owner, but unfortunately some of his staff just made the evening lack lustre.Wouldn't go here again unfortunately.

We were 10 last night. We had the recommended set menu. It was to die for. Great tasting fantastically fresh food. Try the pan fried octopus and the grilled sea bass. The service friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Book a table and treat yourself.

Came here for our Son's 21st Birthday, food & service was great. We all had Meze and we could not fault it. Everything was very tasty and fish and meats succulent. Staff were very friendly too.We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant.

Bustling warm Cypriot Greek atmosphere, very friendly welcoming staff & decent seating, most tables not so cramped & some circular which is better for larger gatherings. We ordered some meze - octopus was v good, the sauces too - taramasalata, aubergine sauce went well with the warm bread. There was a good selection of fish dishes for mains & we took a mixed grill of meats as well. Both very good & we were very full at the end. Still, enough room for ice cream which looked like butter but tasted excellent. One point to note though would be, for us at least, its more of a Saturday night place, entertaining friends & family, rather than casual dining. It's a notch up on the price scale but worth a visit.

Enjoyed a very pleasant meal at this restaurant last night. Good, friendly service. Fresh tasting flavoursome fish (seabass and brill), taramasalata, tabouleh, pitta, halloumi, Greek salad and grilled asparagus.All delicious. Would recommend!

Fabulous! Just fabulous. From the food to the service, the atmoshere, the location and the price. Great well cooked and fresh greek food. The staff is very polite and the atmosphere is great. It's like what we call in Greece "koutouki" ( small and cozy restaurant). We will visit again soon

My family brought me to the Carob Tree last night to celebrate my birthday - what an amazing and wonderful experience! The Meze meal was out of this world, beautifully cooked and presented. The staff are so friendly and welcoming - I definitely recommend this Restaurant.

Louie the owner always make you welcome and the sea brill for two could feed 4 no exaggeration , absolutely superb If served at Scott's in Mayfair would be double the price

Dined here on a busy Saturday lunch Despite the crowds the service was polite the food was prompt and delicious We shared a mix of mezes and a bottle of wine the bill for 3 of us plus tip was £70 Highly recommend
