Carluccio's (Cheshire) in Cheshire West and Chester

I always thought this place would be wayyy better than your average chain. Its not. I got a pizza, my partner got aribiata picante. Both should have been full of flavour but were not. The bruchetta to start had soggy bread and tomatoes with very little dressing, the cheesy garlic bread was so dry you needed alot of water to swallow it down. It was a busy night. However there was no excuse for how long we waited between starter and main. We waited 45 mins after finishing our starter. We saw three tables come in and leave in the same time as us waiting for our mains. I eventually gave up and asked what was happening. No apology, nothing. Good came 10 mins after I'd asked for an update. The staff were friendly, but the waitress we had was rather aggressive. We'd paid online via the QR because we waited 15 mins for the bill and again, gave up. We stood up to leave and the waitress wouldn't let us even despite us showing on our phone we'd paid. She eventually went to the till and just gave us a thumbs up. I'd not recommend this. Just go to ZiZi or Pizza express they're actually better and the food is nicer.

Lovely food and great service. Situated in the rows Bridge Street. Visited while on a day trip to Chester Would go again.

Came here before Christmas and had a nice meal from the special menu but returned in January with only the regular menu, which isn't great. The arancini starter was good but very limited options for pescaterians and the main veggie dish they do is far too spicy. Would only come back when they have another special menu or when they change their main menu in future.

Breakfast advertised outside and door was open, so went in at 8.50 am to be told had to leave until 9 am and could not even sit and wait for 10 minutes at a quiet corner table right out the way of the staff (end of January so very cold outside). This unwelcoming, unyielding attitude means I’ll now avoid what appears to be just another big high street chain.

Popped in for lunch after some shopping. The service was friendly. The food was hot, good portion size and tasty. We also bought one of their panettone from the shop. Absolutely yummy. We will be back.

Ordered 2 x Lasagne and portion of fries. Lasagne’s both cold, chips were barely warm. Staff were pleasant, although, clearly run off their feet. Absolutely no excuse for cold food.

Average food..the mushroom soup was bland and unseasoned. The platter was full of rocket hiding biring charcuterie and bread .

Enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at Carluccio's on a day trip to the Christmas market. The restaurant is centrally located at the street level of one of the Bridge Street Rows, in a lovely old black and white Tudor style building. Inside, it's spacious and clean, with a stylish contemporary decor and colour scheme, modern artwork on the walls, and comfy leather seating. You have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the main toilets, but there is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I was offered a glass of water to drink with my meal. The well stocked bar had a great choice of mainly Italian beers, wines and liqueurs. Authentic Italian cuisine that included freshly baked focaccias, a tempting selection of antipasti, pizzas, and pasta dishes. There was also a children's menu. I chose from the Christmas set menu, two courses for £24.95. The duck arancinis with nduja mayo were hot, crispy and flavoursome, and the pork saltimbocca in a white wine sauce, served with rosemary and garlic roasted potatoes and rocket, was well cooked and made a delicious main course. Excellent red wine too. Did not have a dessert, but they looked very good! The staff were polite, friendly and attentive throughout my meal, and service was very efficient. There were also some nice Italian food gifts to take out, including pasta, olive oil, wine, and large panettones. Overall a delightful lunch experience! Would recommend.

Was visiting Chester for the weekend, four lot's of couples all friends. Had pre booked carluccios for Saturday night 8 pm . We had a good day in the centre, had gone back to hotel to shower and freshen up. Looking forward to our meal. Only to find a message on my phone saying they had cancelled our reservation, no explanation to why. As you can guess we were not happy. Won't be trying to book again. Made it difficult for us to find alternative so late . Not happy wouldn't recommend.

This was our first visit to Carluccio's at Chester. Typical of the chain serving Italian themed food with excellent service and located in the quaint city of Chester. There is also the opportunity to purchase some Italian treats in their shop.

What a fantastic night at Carluccio’s Chester thanks to Dave the manager and his team especially Ben. We had a table of 14 and the service and food was amazing nothing was too much trouble well done Carluccio’s Chester.

I had a pleasant experience and will return. The seafood linguine I had was excellent. Food was served quickly and waiters were friendly and polite.

Half the party finished their dishes but weren't content with what they'd eaten. Half didn't finish their food. No desserts ordered. Paid up and left. Turned right for Five Guys to feed up those that hadn't eaten enough. This restaurant used to be much better.

It hasn't been delivered yet and I can't ring them up to see what is going on because their phone is off.

It was a warm sunny day so we chose here because we could dine outside. The server was lovely and friendly but I was disappointed with the food. The starter of arrancini consisted of 3 rice balls and the smallest serving of bland sauce. The spinach ravioli arrived in a tasteless yellow sauce. Wine was very nice.

Went out with a couple of friends on Saturday night and the service was terrible especially from our so called waitress who had a very bad attitude and not very good at her job - would not be visiting there again !

Had a really nice breakfast, staff were really friendly and helpful with alegry advise /assistance. They also had a good deal on for breakfast. Breakfast , herbal tea and fresh squeezed fruit drink for £15.

Visited on a lovely sunny day. The outside seating was busy but managed to get a table. Was greeted by a member of staff who was efficient and pleasant. My order was taken promptly and appeared within 10 minutes. Food was piping hot and tasty. Treated myself to the bread and butter pudding. So glad I did. All in all a great little find and one I’d not hesitate to recommend. Good price point for what you get and location. Thanks

Never been before (not sure why) ordered the speciality vegetarian breakfast. I’m not vegetarian but it was delicious. Sat outside very pleasant! Inside is huge & very looks amazing. Will definitely eat here again! Compliments to the chef!

I visited there today. Clean, crisp so attentive and friendly staff. Very professional. Excellent selections well displayed and served. Customers seemed to love the Pizzas. Said salad fresh main meals again high standards. Good bottled water. Chilled. Large capuchinos. A very nice restaurant will definitely use them again. Good to see them in Chester. It filled up quickly, after one, the locals know.

Got a Penne Giardiniera as it was recommended and it was just absolutely great. I'm not vegetarian but I will 100% be re-ordering this dish. My server - Kaitlyn H - was very attentive and kind throughout the meal. Do give her a raise!

I have called here a few times lately for breakfast. Each time it’s been absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. I must call in at other times of day and grab lunch.

Excelent food and service. We went with both a xmas 3 course and 3 course from a la carte menu. Everything was quite tasty. Starters: arancino and bruschetta Main: spinach and ricotta ravioli and crab and lobster tortellini Desert: panettone with ice cream and limoncello tart Drinks: red wine, Prosecco and sparkling water UPDATED: Went for a second time next year. Had the goat cheese pizza, ingredients were pretty good, but the dough pretty basic, almost like a fast food pizza. Calamari Frito, decent, but with Hellmann mayonnaise. Focaccia with cheese and garlic, burned underneath. Service good. For quality italian food, this is not the place anymore.

The initial reaction on seeing the restaurant was that it looked quite impressive The service was second to none The food however was dire My wife had to return her original order, the chicken resembled cardboard The replacement was not much better, served with about a pound of garlic potatoes swimming in garlic butter

We had an amazing meal here tonight. Everything was delicious, but I have to give a special mention for the house special of crispy spinach balls and the tiramisu. The service was excellent too - nothing seemed too much trouble for our waiter who was very efficient and friendly.

The staff was very nice and did their best to help us have a good time.

Food was lovely, we had garlic bread, risotto and chicken milense. Unfortunately the service let it down. They forgot to put my main through, so I was sat with no food whilst my husband ate his. They did take this off the bill, which I appreciated, however we then asked for a dessert menu, which didn't come and after ten minutes I had to ask again, and then after fifteen noone came to take our order so we asked for the bill. This was after asking for tap water when we sat down, and it taking half an hour and 2 times asking for us to get it. Nice setting, good food but poor service

Terrible meal, lasagne was dried up and garlic bread tasted off. Very overpriced for quality of meal.

Had lunch here mid week and sat outside in the sun. We took advantage of the two for £20 pizzas which were amazing , tasty and crispy. ( didn't see offer on menu it was in window) Would definitely visit again to sample more Italian cuisine!

The quality of the food was excellent, the offer was great value for money, good service. The only negative was there were only three tables occupied. I doubt we would have paid full price

We were late due to road closures for race for life and the restaurant were very accommodating to reschedule to a later time. We both had Salmon and poached eggs on ciabatta which was lovely. If being petty i would have liked more than one piece of ciabatta. I think £12.50 is quite expensive for one piece of Ciabatta , salmon and 2 small poached eggs .

We were 5 people dining there yesterday, 2 of us had the chicken saltimbocca, both dishes were way too salty which spoiled the whole experience. Worse, after initial greetings and order taken, the waitroses were hiding at the bar, had to go to them to ask for the dessert menu, again to order it and last for the bill: none even acknowledged when we left, after paying a decent bill, for drinks, mains and desserts, once again for 5 people. Rest assured, we will not be coming back.

The food was excellent, we were suggested by friends. The service was great. Tiramisu was the best I ever had, not too sweet. You can taste the difference.

We cannot speak highly enough of our evening. The pasta meal was a great size perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. We were waited on by the lovely katie who was accommodating to my request very pleasant and knowledgeable .We will have no hesitation in recommending Carluccios.Thank you

Arrived to staff chatting at the bar. We were seated but then had to come to the bar to ask to be served. We were met with ‘oh sorry I thought someone else was serving you’. Well actually, had you both not been busy gossiping at the bar, one of you might have noticed that the ONE table in the restaurant needed serving. Sent ‘iced latte’ back - glass of milk with some coffee poured on top. The guy behind the bar agreed with me that it wasn’t very good but explained that because it’s ’a big chain we have to adhere to the specs’. But if the specs don’t work and you know they don’t, why would you continue to serve them to customers knowing it’s rubbish? He offered an alternative but to be honest, I was getting annoyed at this point and asked for a tap water. Then sat down to our food arriving. Dumped on our table with no ‘can I get you any sauces or anything else’ - standard hospitality etiquette - however the waiter clearly wanted to get back to gossiping at the bar instead of serving us - again their ONE table. My guest had the eggs and avocado on toast and myself the traditional breakfast. My breakfast could have been cooked better at home myself. The sausages were dry and disgusting. Eggs looked like they’d been thrown on the plate. All this for the price of £14 😂 My poor guest, for the price of £10 had a thin slice of sourdough toast (despite the menu advertised as it being on a nice ciabatta) with a smear, and I mean smear of avocado which was browning. Not sure if Carluccios are trying to cut costs, but this was ridiculous. Then she said that when she cut into it, the whole thing tasted of oil that wasn’t clean, like dirty oil that had been sat there for ages. We got up and walked out, to the manager behind the bar saying ‘sorry you thought the experience was bad’ in a very casual and blasé manner. Clearly he was not sorry. The lack of passion and pride in work here was the most apparent, and as someone who has my own hospitality establishment, I couldn’t believe how bad this Carluccios was in terms of the basics of service. Shame, as the Harrogate Carluccios is very good. So we will be returning, but to the Harrogate branch and never to the Chester one again - the management here really should really be embarrassed, because I would be.

Very nice place in the center of Chester. The staff was kind. We ate well, fried calamari rings and a plate of mozzarella with tomato. It is certainly one of the best places to eat in this beautiful English city. If you liked the review you can leave a LIKE to help me grow in the community.

Unfortunately, I no longer have a good opinion about this restaurant. I always liked going there because they had a few vegan options, I'm allergic to milk. It turned out that they changed the menu and now they don't have anything vegan anymore. I'm very sad😔

Very poor experience indeed. Never had suck poor experience at one of their restaurants before. (We usually go to the Manchester one). Service poor. Basic requests refused. Staff. Particularly the manager not interested. The young lady waitress did however do her best. Shang be going there again for sure, so disappointing.

Nice location on a high street in Chester. Didn't take photos as I didn't think it was worth it, but now I wish I had as they would have made my point. The food was mediocre and heavily overpriced for what was served. I ordered a dish that was similar to an eggs royale with a slight difference and decided to go for the gluten free option. Shockingly, this meant I got a tiny slice of gluten free bread with two poached eggs on it. Oh, and the eggs were disapointingly overcooked. The description for an item on the menu was misleading. An absence of the advertised slow grilled tomatoes on the dish served meant, as explained by a staff (possibly manager), that the bearly visible tomatoes were actually chopped and mixed in the sparingly spead avacado on the bread. There was no warmth or even passion in the service, not even on a lovely sunny day. Not impressed!

I had booked for nine people three weeks in advance, the day before the due date I received a message cancelling my booking. As it was a horse racing day in Chester all the restaurants were extremely busy , I eventually made a booking at another restaurant and had a nice meal. Very poor to be cancelling at such a late time. I will not be visiting this restaurant again

Booked online, initially had a problem as we received an e-mail the day before, cancelling our booking. When we rang to check they said it was a mistake and we were still okay to go. On arrival we were a bit early so no problem in waiting for our table, it was extremely busy due to the races and the bank holiday. Our food was served quickly considering the number of people in there. I ordered the arrabiata which normally I expect to have a bit of a kick to it but it was bland and not hot or spicy at all. My partner enjoyed his carbonara. Had tiramisu for dessert but it wasn’t great, I’ve tasted much nicer versions. Overall it was just okay, but I definitely wouldn’t be rushing back.

Smashing restaurant in the centre of Chester food was beautiful and freshly cooked. The waiters were attentive and on hand if needed. Would certainly go again

Opted to eat here while on a little weekend away in Chester. Meal was absolutely delicious. We had the set meal 2 course for £20. So tasty . Great choices. Highly recommend the seafood rice dish. Staff were fantastic. We had a little issue with the bill. Items were on there that weren't ours but was sorted efficiently. Would definitely return again .

The restaurant is lovely nice staff and great service such a shame the food quality does not match .we ordered 5 different main meals in our party and all were pretty bland and tasteless also small potions especially the burger and fries you’d get better at a weatherspoons where I wished we had gone . Tiny fish potion that you had to pay extra for a side and the side was a tiny bowl of 4 new potatoes bland supposed to be garlic . The garlic bread starters also bland . Would not go again as the price of the food does not match and is not value for money .

Excellent food, service and no hidden charges! Haven’t been for a long time but after becoming disillusioned with high prices, poor quality food and ridiculous service charges at Piccolinos , decided to try here. Food was beautiful. Not huge portions but enough for us. Prices reasonable. Staff lovely and helpful. Music not too loud. Then we were able to pick our own tip, which is absolutely what I favour (and we paid a higher tip than the normal ‘service charge’ at Piccolinos as a result! We will be back. Thank you!

Awful, for the price the food is comparable to a Wetherspoons, never used to be so poor My husband had a chicken burger which looked like it would feed a 5 year old, I had the lasagne, which was ok but nothing amazing and certainly not somewhere I woklr recommend to people, piccolinos is much nicer and better quality I would have a paid £10 for our meals we ate last night and nothing more

We had an early meal before the concert we were going to. We had a small plate, brichetta, always very good and a tiramisu, to follow both excellent and served very quickly,. The waitress was very pleasant and efficient.

All very rich. Feeling of fresh and quality products. For the prices in the area we found it to be a very good price-quality ratio. Recommendable.

The place is very quiet and elegant, if you don't know where to eat highly recommended, I ordered the risotto and it was spectacular. And the chocolate brownie and the mocha, unforgettable. Greetings to the Valencian.

Went with family to this place. Food wasn't best as my family members Risotto was over spiced and my Chicken dish was oversalted. Also other family members burger bun was burned black so had to ask for a new dish as it wasn't eatable.Staff was friendly and helpful.

Very disappointing experience: sat frozen throughout the service as staff would keep opening front door fully (in a March storm), we were also sat directly under air con unit. Several diners, including my husband took turns in getting up to close door but no staff seemed to acknowledge. Long wait for drinks, brought out separately which was odd (2 drinks), starter and desert very bland, think the breads/dough were the issue. Steak brought out with no offer of appropriate knife. No service offering additional drinks or question if we were okay. Referenced we were celebrating our wedding anniversary but nothing to acknowledge this. Very very disappointed, and seemed expensive for what we had/enjoyed.

I had Eggs Royal for breakfast, the food was fantastic, the service was great, there was pleasant music playing that created a nice ambience, I enjoyed my meal very much. My wife had the traditional English breakfast with an Italian twist that she said she enjoyed. We went in at 9:00 am so it wasn't that busy, by the time we were finished and leaving more customers were coming in and the restaurant was becoming more alive. Definitely recommend if you like having eggs for breakfast.

We were welcomed as soon as we went into the restaurant by a lovely young lady who showed us to a great seat in the window. She asked if we would like a drink whilst we were looking at the menu. She also explained that there was a deal which you could have at lunch time and it included anything on the menu with a star against it. We actually went for the Chicken Saltimbocca oh my goodness it was delicious and then followed on with a Tiramisu which just melted in the mouth. All in all, lovely member of staff who served us and the food was to die for, thank you so much.

The restaurant was cold 🥶 and very drafty. Steak was poor.

We came as a family of 3 food was lovely although I personally thought the portion sizes were small compared to the price.

Called in with a friend for a lunchtime meal and catch up. Amazing friendly service from Emily. Really enjoyed my spaghetti carbonara and although I was tempted to have more we were both trying to behave to start to shift the winter weight gain. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a great lunch.

Me and my partner came for the valentines set menu. The food was well worth the price for 3 courses. Lovely setting and very polite and attentive staff. Longer than usual wait between each course but I take in to account that the restaurant was extremely busy so this may not be the case everytime.

3 speciality dishes, vegan, vegetarian and normal. I This was our regular breakfast treat when visiting Chester, we preferred it to The Grosvenor Hotel where we always stay. What a pity, they've changed the menu, no traditional English breakfast and very limited choice, the place is certainly not as vibrant as all the other occasions that I've eaten here. We keft to find somewhere else that offered a full English. Owners let me know when you bring the old menu back

The Focaccia bread was not up to your usual standard. It was cold, stodgy, and very disappointing. It arrived in a paper bag not the usual container. Shame.

We had a short break in Chester and found this Italian by chance on the Friday evening.The meal was so nice that we went back on Saturday evening as well. We did book for the Saturday as it was busy. There was enough on the menu to keep it intresting for a second.meal.If I was being a critical friend I would say the dessert menu was a bit chocolate heavy and lacking a little bit of imagination having said which the Lemon cello tart was the best ever and so was the chocolate fondant

The food is delicious. There is an area where you can buy stuff. It is a quick walk from here to the V&A and Science Museum... Therefore, it is great for a day out. The children's and adults' menus are both great. The seats are comfortable. Having a weekend break in Chester we wanted a really nice meal and chose Carluccio’s on the basis of its excellent reviews. Carluccio’s fully deserves its high ratings. Food was delicious, presented beautifully and served by excellent waiting staff who knew the menu and the wine list in detail. All in all an excellent meal in nice surroundings and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Not particularly cheap but good value for the quality of food and service.

We were there about 10.45 am . We waited ages for a waitress to take our order, even though there were very few customers in there. Had to go and ask them to take order. Our order eventually came but not all together. The first 2 drinks to arrive were almost drunk before our 3 companions drinks were brought, the food arriving later again. Bit drawn out with delays.

Booked fairly last minute and got a table for 4. We ordered 2 x chicken burgers, 1 x steak and carbonara with garlic bread. Food was really nice to be fair! No option for peppercorn sauce BUT it’s an Italian so can’t be expected. Dessert we had brownies and fondant, really nice can’t be faulted. Didn’t catch our waitresses name, but she was blonde and pregnant - so nice, really kind and welcoming to us. Good value for money, for a drink each; meal each (including steak) two sides and 4 desserts £150. Can’t fault it.
