Undercooked steak, burnt potato skins, poor service, long wait time & overpriced. Do not recommend at all.

Well not just a great place to visit with friends and family but a great surprise to find a £10 voucher in the menu. Great staff and excellent value for money. Thank you the team💋

Where to start,We entered the restaurant in high hopes as from the outside it looked very pleasant. However, upon entering a lady who I assumed to be the manager by her dress wear shouted from the other side of the restaurant to seat ourselves. The only good thing about this Restaurant is that the drinks came fairly quickly (6-7 minutes) even though it wasn’t busy so this is nothing to sing and dance about.We ordered the food via the app which was just confusing and difficult to work.The food came over and put simply it was disgusting. I had the Flame-Grilled Cheese and Bacon burger. After about 30 minutes a vile microwave meal from an empty pub arrived. Onion rings were soggy, bacon undercooked, hard salad and a burnt to crisp burger. No one asked how the food was and writing this review 45 minutes on from finishing the table still hasn’t been cleared, yet a waitress has been up here plenty of times.Management’s customer service was appalling and not at all somebody who should be in charge and had a face on her the entire time of being there. This is the worst customer service I have ever received from any establishment.Never going to visit again and I advise no one else does either.

Don’t be fooled by them advertising a Dog Friendly restaurant as the staff all have dog allergies. Would be an idea to remove Dog Friendly from your website!

3rd visit to this pub for food and always pleased. Excellent value for money, friendly helpful staff. Food was ordered and delivered within a good time. All meals were well presented and hot, 3 adults and 3 children. All good sized portions and 2 sirloin steaks cooked to perfection. Will definitely recommend and be returning.

I’ve been to this place a few times and for some reason (probably convenience more than anything) I keep giving it another chance. The service here is absolutely appalling. Nobody has ever been behind the bar when I’ve gone to order. When someone turns up there is another six customers they have to serve. Food is generally a 90min wait MINIMUM. This place needs to either be shut down immediately or employ another 20 staff. I’m sat here now and there are about 9 people waiting to enter and no staff to be seen. Terrible.

Front line manager was excellent, at the table service was prompt and efficient food lovely and hot everything was well portion all staff were friendly and helpful we both enjoyed our food and drinks and will be going back

My family and I had a meal at The Cardiff Bay Tavern tonight and we had a great time. There is a great variety of choice on the menu and we used the app to place our order. The app was easy to use and navigate around and when the food arrived there was plenty of it and it was all fresh and well cooked. It was a great value for money meal out. I must also comment on the staff who didn't stop while we were there and were all very helpful and polite even though they were busy, well done!

First impressions were good when we were promptly shown to a table but then had to wait a long time to order our food. The food itself was cheap and plentiful so no complaints there but it took quite a while to arrive. All in all a typical example of this type of restaurant.

Visited here today with a friend, ordered a steak and a mixed grill which took around an hour to arrive.The steaks were the wrong way around so had to swap them with each other (one well done, the other medium rare).Could only eat the one sausage as the rest of it was just digusting, tried a bit of the chicken and I still feel sick now, 3 hours later.Would not recommend at all

We were early for booking in at the Travelodge nearby so found this pub round the corner in The Red Dragon Centre. The Covid precautions were in place and after checking in we were taken to our table. The service was excellent and the man serving went out of his way to make sure we got the best deal on the drinks we ordered (I ended up with 2 bottles of cider for not much more than the price of one using a promotional offer.) The pub was fairly quiet but I imagine if it's busy there would be a livelier atmosphere.

Omg what can i say meals were amazing massive challenges and so tasty well cheap priced and kris what a lovely guy hope hel still be there when we come back in 3 weeks and what ever chef was working 25th july he or she should be a keeper compliments to th chef see you all soon im still full up today

We had a wonderful meal here today at the tavern in Cardiff thanks to the amazing staff you went the extra mile especially Jack! It was wonderful service with a smile, very happy customers will definitely come again!

After a 7 hour drive we popped in here looking for something quick to eat. Cannot fault the timings of the order but my goodness the food was lacking.Steak and ale pie. Virtually no meat, 3- 4 very, very small bits of meat swimming in gravy. I honestly haven’t seen such a poor man's pie in all my life. Chicken tikka...cardboard tasting chicken swimming in a supermarket takeaway microwave box standard.8 year old boy asked how did they make pizza taste so bad? He isn't fussy.10 year old was happy with her burger. My advice is go anywhere else. It was possibly the worst "meal" we have eaten in about 10 years.

We had a evening in this pub and can’t rate it highly enough,the meal we had was was top notch and very reasonably priced,all the staff were fantastic especially cassiddy…we will be back again today

This pub/ restaurant is appalling firstly the service is slow to the point where we are waiting 45mins for a drink when the pub is only half full! The chicken I had was raw and when asking for a refund I 1) didn’t see the manager & 2) was offered a complementary desert which upon arrival look like it had been thrown in the dish from the other side of the kitchen and yet again the food was appalling the bananas were black and the cream tasted off.Overall I would stay clear of this pub at all costs and wouldn’t bother wasting money for poor service and appalling food.

Really lovely (hot) well priced food. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Had 3 different meals between us all and each of us commented on how tasty our meals were. Please visit, you won't be disappointed.

We went to the bay tavern and was informed that they are fully booked and cannot seat us despite confirmation from a manager moments before on a phone call confirming we can come. After two attempts from front of house seeking this clarification, we were then informed there is only one table available and doesn’t know why the manager seems to think that as the place is half empty we can take more people in. We were then told to order on the app as we were being sat on the table at the very back and best to order on this so we “don’t get forgotten about”. Whilst our drinks were served to us, our registration was taken to allow our free (entitled) parking. Food then took an hour to be served, but were served cold, soggy and undercooked. The other meal was burned, cold and extremely dry, despite three different types of sauces being plastered over it. Whilst we were leaving we needed the loo, the ladies toilets require more regular checks as the first three toilets of choice, had a lot of unflushed number 2’s. Whilst leaving the carpark, we joined a big queue as it’s a very sunny busy bank holiday. At the gates, I was then forced to pay £5 as it would not open, despite the waiter taking my registration for the purpose of giving us the free entitled parking. I could not reverse to to go back to the restaurant as we were in a queue and forced to pay. We were parked there no longer than 4 hours so well within the 6 hour allowance. Very disappointed.

Well returned after many months to a great reception from the team. They are all full of energy and excited to be back. Jack was as keen and eager as ever. Well done everyone

Visited on Saturday, was very busy and staff were still smiling and helpful, few people moaning but I don’t understand why when they can see everyone was doing their best on a busy Saturday,

We were served by a really lovely guy called Jack, who went above and beyond to ensure we were all happy with our experience. The app to order was down so Jack had to take orders across the whole pub, but he ensured everyone was happy and that we were all enjoying our time. Thanks to jack we had a lovely time at the Cardiff Bay Tavern and will definitely be visiting again soon, and we hope to see Jack again!

Shocking service. Ordered to sanitise at entry. First night (yesterday) ordered Tanqueray 10, and watched the barman pour standard Tanqueray. Questioned this when drinks brought over to be told it was Tanq 10. Drink eventually replaced once I explained what I'd witnessed. Embarrassing. Second night, service painfully slow. No glass collections, staff extremely rushed. Table not cleared at any point during our stay, not even after the starters, just more plates piled into the table then staff legged it! The food (fish platter) was probably the worst fish and chips that we have ever had. It was so overcooked that the fish was virtually non-existant. Hard, chewy batter with literally nothing inside. Massively overcooked, which would explain how it took so long to arrive. The tiny, tiny scampi shattered when approached with a fork. There are gaps in training in the kitchen I believe. I understand that times have been hard and everything is different now but this pub is not performing as it should. The service and organisation is extremely poor and is reflected in the quality of product provided. When I visit Cardiff again, I won't visit this pub. Ever. The worst pub meal I think I have ever had, far from what I expect in a Greene King pub. Utter rubbish.

Had a great experience at the Bay Tavern. The staff are really friendly and they have great food offers.Visited with friends who we haven’t seen for nearly a year it was a great place to meet and parking was free because we had food and drinks.

Amazing service. Callam and Jack made us feel very welcome. They were attentive and polite. The meal was lovely, kids really enjoyed. We will definitely come again.

Service was sloppy and slow. Got told it would be quicker for us to order our drinks on the app.. even though there was only 5 tables in the whole restaurant. We waited 50 minutes before our food came out. The children were hungry and very restless by this point. After the food came out, we waited a good couple minutes before the cutlery came, so food was getting cold. Tables that were dirty when we came in were still dirty by the time we left even though it wasn’t remotely busy. Burgers were burnt. Hunters chicken .. which for £9 .. came out 2 skimpy chicken breasts, 1 slither of bacon put across the 2 breasts and in a bed of onions which we asked not to have. Didn’t want to send it back because we had waited to long. We heard other tables complaining too which just added to the fact we obviously wasn’t just being fussy. I understand it’s difficult times, but with pubs and restaurants getting less custom, you would have thought they would make more of an effort to keep the guests they ARE having happy. We will not be back.

Visited today for a late lunch/early dinner for our youngest daughters birthday. The atmosphere was lovely, the servers went above and beyond. We had hunters chicken which was delicious, the kids meal had very generous portions. Would like to specifically mention jack one of the servers who was great and deserved a special mention. Will definitely visit again. Thanks again all!

Ordering via app is easy or you can have table service.Very polite staff, Jack is very attentive and always happy.... how? Whatever is making him happy we all need some as it’s nice to have a happy person around at the momentOrdered the steak with fries and burnt end, very tasty. Ordered the steak blue as I usually do. Meat well cooked though there was a cold spot or two in the steak. Could have benefited from being pulled out of the fridge and brought up to room temp before cooking, but that’s easy fir me to say, I don’t run a commercial kitchen under food hygiene rules that prevents leaving lumps of meat out to warm up!All in all, very enjoyable meal. Hoy fui a almorzar con mi hijo pequeño. Los puntos positivos fueron un personal agradable, un menú a un precio razonable, mucha variedad y un servicio rápido. Puntos negativos: llamé al pasar para reservar con anticipación y me dijeron que tenía que descargar la aplicación para hacer una cita, pero la batería de mi teléfono estaba baja. Dijeron que podía volver a llamar a la hora elegida, ya que de todos modos tenían muy pocas reservas. Pedí curry vegetariano que estaba bastante sabroso pero el arroz apenas estaba tibio. El hijo tenía salchichas y puré, pero las salchichas parecían realmente poco atractivas con la piel descamada. Demasiado hielo en el jugo de manzana, lo que dificulta su bebida y se diluye demasiado. Tuve que pagar por adelantado antes de la llegada de la comida, lo cual es inusual y requirió dos transacciones separadas ya que el hijo quería helado después del plato principal. Hijo pidió artículos para colorear. Trajeron crayones, pero no tenían hojas para colorear ni papel, por lo que los crayones eran bastante inútiles.

Mi novio y yo pasamos por un capricho para tomar una copa y comer algo mientras jugaba el fútbol. Al llegar, fuimos recibidos por una dama encantadora (cuyo nombre no entendí), que fue minuciosa con las regulaciones de COVID - 19 y muy amable. La encantadora dama nos aconsejó sobre las ofertas que podríamos aprovechar durante nuestra visita (porque seamos honestos, ¡todo ayuda en este momento!) Y se aseguró de que tuviéramos todo lo que necesitábamos. En general, la comida era rápida y el personal era encantador y dispuesto a ayudar. Fue agradable experimentar un personal tan agradable durante un momento tan desagradable. ¡Gracias!

No me puedo quejar. El servicio realmente bueno de Callum y Jack y Jack está haciendo una rifa para Macmillan Cancer, así que si vas allí, involúcrate.

Always a pleasure to stop here of a lunchtime. Staff Friendly and helpful. Given the current regulations we were made to feel safe and welcome. Will return.

Mientras estábamos en Cardiff para el fin de semana, visitamos Bay Tavern el viernes y sábado 11/9/20 - 12/9/20 para tomar una copa y cenar. Nos lo pasamos de maravilla bebidas a precios razonables, así como la comida. La comida era genial, puedo recomendar la parrillada mixta. El personal fue muy amable y servicial, especialmente Lauren, te saluda con una sonrisa feliz antes de tomar tus datos y mostrarte tu mesa, estaba feliz de detenerse y charlar cuando tenía la oportunidad, lo cual no era muy frecuente, casi no se detenía ambas noches.

Popped in for an evening meal with family last weekend. Food and cocktails were delicious and Jack who served us was a delightful young man. Played a spot the ball type game with him and won a 20 quid gift card. Cheers Jack!!

I stay local to here on business every month. Food is good honest pub grub. Staff are always very good. Couldn't ask for much more.

On Sunday the 6th of September I had a lovely meal with my family to celebrate my eldest getting into university. The food was delicious along with great service and a warm welcoming environment. In particular my waitress Emily was polite , well mannered and extremely helpful throughout our experience. Because of the amazing service , great food and the facilities being good I would definitely encourage coming here . Thank you Emily and the staff of The Tavern for a lovely time .

Service was excellent, staff were lovely and bent over backwards to please. Food was delicious and very filling, arrived quickly and hot. Server was a lovely girl called Emily who made sure I had everything I needed and was happy with my food. The host Sian was very sweet and checked in on me. Bar staff, Kris and Danny were very friendly, could have a good conversation and giggle. Ali also kept checking in on me to make sure I was all good. On the whole, this Sunday staff was excellent!! A great team!

4 of us came to eat, they brought 2 meals out after an hour of waiting and then the other 2 meals half hour later so by the time all of the food was on the table 2 of the meals were freezing cold, terrible service

We visit Cardiff bay for a long weekend August bank holiday 2020, the Cardiff bay tavern is always a pleasure to visit. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and this time the icing on the cake was meeting the lovely jack who delivered our drinks and took away our empty glasses nothing was too much trouble.We will definitely be dining there again on our next visit.

Had a lovely meal after a long day of travelling. Great local knowledge given from Callum in particular regarding must see Cardiff locations. Well worth a visit.

We spent a lovely couple of hours in here on a Saturday afternoon in mid-August. as we arrived without a booking on the off chance there was space, having not been to this pub before. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and were kind enough to get us a booth so we had ample room for our one year old. Also one of the best systems we have seen for maintaining distancing and all staff were wearing visors and gloves, it genuinely felt like the safety of both customers and staff was being taken very seriously and we felt completely at home. Plus there was sport on!I'd definitely recommend a visit.

What a fabulous night!!! We went to this lovely pub after playing bowls, close quick and easy but I tell you what!! What a fab night!! Food great, service was even better. The manager Kate, team leader Lauren and saving the best for last was Jack our server!!! He genuinely was the nicest guy ever. You keep doing what your doing Jack, couldn’t have asked for a nicer person to serve us. Nothing and I mean nothing was too much trouble. Well done guys. Food was AMAZING too. Me and my boyfriend arrived this afternoon without booking. We waited at the serving area and no one was there, so after a while we took it upon ourselves to go and sit down. The table we chose had only one other table in use in that section, the rest were empty. After downloading the app and going through the menu a lady (I presume the manager, as she wasn’t in uniform) came up to us asking had we been seated, to then tell us we can’t sit down without being seated. So we got up and walked all the way to the front for her to say, ‘yeah there’s no space for you’. I found the tone she used to be quite shocking, especially coming from someone who works in the customer service industry. She could have spoken to us in a proper way and used manners but apparently some people don’t learn manners in their life. What’s laughable is I’ve never seen a restaurant so empty, but then to be told they had no space. Coronavirus cannot be an excuse for this, she clearly just didn’t want us in the restaurant. I thought The Greene king company Would take pride in their management, but obviously not!

Friendly staff, well equipped to deal with COVID distancing. The mixed grill was nice, however the mac and cheese was truly awful - I’ve tasted nicer from a can. No seasoning, bland and tasteless. Would go again and try something different

Fantastic evening Thursday.We were all on separate tables but we're able to see each other. Food here was excellent. Customer service again excellent. The waiter whom came to our table very polite.Quick serving meals too. I also want thank the young lady at the reception she gave us a seat before family even came very good nice smile looked after us from start to finish. We had a lovely family meal at the Bay Tavern. All team members were very friendly but one stood out the most. Callum came over and was VERY friendly and professional at the same time. He made us laugh and gave us lots of information on drinks and his insight to them. He is a credit to the team!

Where do I start.... On arrival the person who greets you had her back to the entrance, which ok, maybe she was busy but I work on first impressions. We got explained the system and how to order, which was fine. Went to bar to order and waited at our table. I bought a draft lager which I had to change as it wasn't nice at all, (and I'd drink anything).After asking about when the food would be ready they told me it was a 30 minute wait (after 40 minutes of waiting) which could've been mentioned when ordering out of courtesy to be honest! When food arrived the list is below1, my sons order was wtong2, we had to wait for cutlery which was promptly dropped onto our tsble3, 3 of our 4 meals were cold, but as we had complained already, and were hungry, we didn't say nothing.4, staff, apart from the one barman, and the 2 table-hands were very uninviting.As I run catering establishments I saw so much that was wrong here on one visit. Definitely never returning, which is unfortunate as it has huge potential

Just been for a nice afternoon meal and I have to say we were very disappointed. We ordered the most expensive steak on the menu and asked it to be medium. The steak may have been medium but I'm guessing it was on the skillet for a while and continued cooking as the rest of our meals were cold. The two chick challenges we had were cold and not what they said on the menu. BBQ beans, nope, dressed salad, nope and some of the leafs where black and brown. When the waitress came past to ask if everything was ok she didn't even stop (guessing she knew what the answer would have been).All in all a poor meal.

worse meal ever first not the cleanest of places stuck to the floor it was that dirty cutlery I needed to rub clean food was over cooked and stone cold asked for a med rare steak cooked to over well done my partner was the same my granddaughter and partner were aghast at their over cooed burgers and hard baps might of been 59% of would have rather paid full for a good meal starter came no plates or cutlery 1 is being kind has the young boy was helpful but a little slow when we told him about the bad meal

My family and I visited this lovely pub. It’s our first meal out since March. All measures have been taken into account with the current pandemic we are facing, which put our minds at peace. Overall, excellent service. Food was good & excellent value for money. The service came with loads of smiles and cheerfulness, making the meal even tastier. At the bar there was 2 lovely bar staff a young lady who has 2 children and a lovely guy who had a piercing and black and while dyed hair, they built a good rapport with us and took the time to introduce us to some different drinks we’ve had never tried before. Loved every minute in there. Highly recommended & would certainly go back.

I would class The Cardiff Bay Tavern as my local pub, it has a wide variety of drinks and a reasonably priced menu which caters for all tastes. I’ve always found the staff very friendly and helpful. The restaurant can get busy and sometimes there can be a wait on food as it’s all cook fresh to order but it’s definitely worth the wait. So if you find yourself in the Cardiff Bay Area it’s definitely worth a visit for a quiet pint or a family meal they can cater for all needs.

Very good food served at this place a great menu to choose from and very reasonably priced it will also be a nice place to visit in the summer as it will have seating outside and close to the water the staff was very welcoming we will definitely be going back food was 10 out of 10 As was the service

Went here for meal with my parents and my fiancee to celebrate our engagement I want to start with the part of no point in booking a table as was just told to sit anywhere even though I did book a table, now the best parts the service was fantastic staff were very accommodating regarding dietary needs etc and the food itself was phenomenal I had the rib challenge and it was so tasty nice and hot. And then deserts were amazing and the staff would pop by now and then and ask if we needed anything, the prices were fantastic and every bite was worth every penny.I would highly recommend this place for families or a nice decent meal for a couple

I arrived today between 2:30pm to 3:30pm, we sat at a table to look at your menu then went to the bar to order our meals. The barman who served us told us it would be about a half hour wait which wasn’t a problem for us as we were in no rush. I was served my meal which was hunters chicken with jacket potato. The chicken came with no BBQ sauce which I question the waiter and he lent over a table and grabbed BBQ sauce off a different table and gave it to me. I feel like when you order a hunters chicken it should come with the BBQ sauce on there like stated on the menu, but I let it go and went to carry on with my meal. The chicken was so dry looked like it had been kept under a hot lamp for hours, as I sliced into the hunters chicken what I believe to be water came out, I called a waitress over to tell her that I couldn’t eat that so she offered a fresh meal. I accepted and as she came to clear my plate of inedible food my cutlery was on the side of the plate as she looked in disgust she said ‘ I don’t want to touch your cutlery’ I found this confusing as she’s a waitress surely apart of her job role is to clear plates and cutlery with it? This made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. By the time I had my second meal my friend had finished hers, well done this time it came with the BBQ! The chicken was absolutely appalling, it was like a gooey sloppy texture there and then I decided this meal was inedible. I called over the waiter and said I can’t eat this and he replied saying that he would get it refunded to me, also adding the comment of its is what it is’. I feel like this service should be something that is looked at by management as I for one felt embarrassed and also hungry after we left!

Booked table for 14 for birthday meal, as we had six children from 1year old also pre-ordered meals. Went into the taven two hours before table booked for to advise unfortunately we had to cancel some meals due to illness. Advised this was fine but two of the meals ordered were now unavailable as they had run out at lunch time. Confused as we had pre ordered them why were they sold. When we came back for our meal no members of staff to greet or show us to our table, we worked out which was ours then saw a member of staff and double checked, we required a high chair which we had to find. Meals arrived, food fine for price. After meal we had a cake which the staff had taken to plate up, waited a long time for it to be brought to table, asked if we could have plates, girl said sure how many ? Again when ready to leave no staff in sight, eventually a girl came out of back. Just seemed no one front of house organising staff and greeting customers. Staff we're ok but lacking customer service.

Went in here for lunch on Valentines Day it was very busy but plenty of seating left. A very nice place to eat, clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely,well cooked and tasty
