It is so cramped and the place is always closed for whatever reason. Useless place I will never recommend

We visited this Chinese restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Was amazing food and service. Will definitely be back .

Popped in for some food while passing through. They were doing a small plates menu, and every dish was excellent - some of the tastiest food I’ve enjoyed in a while. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Only local to the area just over a year trying carry out shops and restraunts . I never booked tried my luck and my luck payed off . Restraunt its self clean and fresh looking comfortable seating . Staff very friendly and pleasant. Now the food wow presentation taste i went for a pre theatre 3 course spring rolls ' chicken satay (best iv had ) with fried rice and salt and chilly chips none of them french fry things proper chips ( amazing ) .Then banana fritter with ice cream and syrup with a touch of merange in the ice cream . You may think im exadurating but this is by far the best food iv had in a restraunt 100 % family run business . Thanks to the young waitresses too funny and caring looked like they liked there jobs kerp up the good work . I hope the manager passes this to them too and all staff from kitchen to front desk . Team effort for a success not one person . Thankyou see you soon

Birthday treat,the sweet corn soup was delicious, veggie chow mein was bland and no taste and hot Carmel brownie was stale and very disappointing. We advised staff of lack of flavour of main dish and stale Brownie. The staff member smiled and charged us the extra as indicated on menu Avoid brownie and chow mein. Not value for money

Been going to this restaurant for years It’s our favourite and the food is still delicious Sadly the ambience and peace has been shattered by the loud music playing in the background Asked if it could be changed but fell on deaf ears unfortunately Probably won’t go back

Got a takeaway for the first time from this restaurant and the chicken curry and beef curry was absolutely delicious we usually use another takeaway in Johnstone for years but decided to give The Canton a try so glad we did will definitely be back

The Canton Restaurant and Takeaway have a fantastic atmosphere the Staff are attentive and are on hand if you require any further assistance the food is tasty and fast I honestly can't recommend the Canton in Johnstone highly enough it's well run clean and has an amazing atmosphere

My husband and I went for lunch. It was really salty for both of us. We then both ended up with upset stomachs although we'd eaten different things. Restaurant seemed clean but won't be back I'm afraid.

Been here lot in past.went last night ordered chicken sweet corn soup tasted like water partner had chicken noodle she said hers was tasteless too invisible chicken in soup. Ordered Singapore chow mein never been served a dish like that was more like a bunch of soggy wet noodles that glistened with grease and had 2 small pieces pork and 2 small pieces of chicken on top and couple peppers glad I asked for king prawn in it got 2. Partner ordered chicken fried rice and was pure greasy she said. Ps asked for mine be extra spicy I couldn’t even taste any spice. Had more spice in a pot noodle. There’s something amiss with this place as we have enjoyed it in past. We didn’t want to complain as we were in hurry and shouldn’t serve food like that in first place. We certainly won’t be back.

Had the pleasure of eating here last night, and it was fantastic, the food was amazing atmosphere and service fab, all in all outstanding.

Popped in for a quick Chinese and was not disappointed. The chicken chow mien in particular was delicious. Service was fantastic. Be warned if you are from south of the border that the portion sizes are huge compared to London. Excuse the chips they were down to my daughter

Yesterday myself and a couple of friends visited this restaurant as a last minute stop and what a surprise it was! The staff were friendly and attentive. It's a fairly strange laid out affair but cosy at the same time. The starters took a bit of time to come but when they came they were delicious so was the mains and the dessert, although they mucked up my order but was quickly rectified. All in all worth a visit and not too pricy!

We decided to try a local restaurant and went to the Canton with my husband and my 3yo boy. We loved the food, love the fact that they have kids menu. My son loved the chicken bites and fried rice. Our food also was delicious, service was quick and so friendly, we had an amazing Sunday dinner. We got there at 5:45pm and it was not busy but when we left around 7pm we could notice its a popular restaurant. Will definitely come back!

The attitude of the staff are terrible, phoned up to order food and the boy who I presume was younger was incredibly blunt, thought I had the wrong number as when I phoned all I received was “hi” in a very rude tone. Talk about customer service!!

I’ve been coming to the canton for years , mostly for lunch The staff are so friendly and accommodating The portions are a fair size just enough for lunch Very reasonably priced too Would definitely recommend

Ordered tonight from most local place to us.Lovely fresh food.Hot and sour soup...DELICIOUS Spring rolls lovely.Kung po beef and chicken both full of flavourWe used to order from farther a field but from now on this will be our place to call.Only fault......NOT enuf prawn crackers to mop up the delicious curry sauce.

I popped in for a takeaway and after waiting for what seemed like ages, I was shocked to find that instead of fried rice, they had given me CHIPS, I hate chips at the best of times. There was no way I'd be jumping back in the car to drive the 40 minutes round trip, what a let down.

Use this as a take away regularly but hadn’t been to sit in for years. Went for lunch the other day. Great food and excellent value. 2 starters, 2 mains and a coke and beer for £20.

I used to deliver to this place about 20 years ago and its nice to see a restaurant lasting as long. The food was good, the service good and the value excellent. Really enjoyed the return.

Nice food best in the area never a bad meal staff always great good prices. the menu is smaller so there good at what they make .

This place is fantastic I find it hard to get a Chinese that I really love and stopped at this place one lunch time and got a take away I have since been back 4 times in the space of 10 days and I’m about a 20min drive but it’s worth it the staff are really nice also the beef curry extra hot is the best I have ever had and I will be back on a regular basis 10/10 for me I only wish I lived closer

We have been here 4 times in space of a week ,my partner found it out and about for lunch as he’s a delivery driver all over Scotland and knows all the best places to eat , he loves Curry however no Chinese restaurant gets it right , this place does one to four hot , he gets 3 hot , the staff are so nice welcoming and remembered us , which mabe not a good thing as we may be here a lot , I had prawn cocktail , Chinese prawn cocktails not great but this very nice and they cater for gluten free so I don’t feel ill after eating this food as I usually do ! Great find we come from Airdrie , or house south side glasgow or erskine , worth the travel , see youse soon ❤️

Food is always fresh and tasty. Good value for money. Staff are always pleasant and welcoming. Visit here from paisley as its the best sit in chinese we have found.

My wife and I travel from the other side of Paisley for a sit down meal at the Canton regularly. We will always be back as the staff are great and the food is awesome.

I have been eating from this family run restaurant/takeaway for over 30 years and it consistently offers good value for money whilst offering excellent food and service. The ambience is relaxing coupled with friendly attentive staff. Value for money it cannot be beaten in terms of quality. A must try highly recommended.

We had the 3 course set menu tonight and it was sublime. Each course was as tasty as the last. The staff were very friendly and professional. Excellent dining experience. Looking forward to our next visit.

Came to the takeaway area ordered two of the specials at £9 and salt and pepper chips asked for boiled rice with spring onions got fried rice instead phoned up for the staff to say I asked for fried rice which I didn't I also said well I asked for spring onions in the rice to which he blatantly said the cook put them in! I asked if he was calling me a liar and why would I even bother phoning anyway his attitude is a disgrace for customer service I will not be back!!

This was our family local chinese restaurant for 30 years..hadnt been in ages...wish I hadnt bothered.We ordered special fried rice, chicken balls and curry sauce.The fried rice was way to salty and very greasy, we couldnt get our knife through the chicken balls, they had been burnt or re heated and were inedible..so disappointed worst £17 Ive ever spent

The standard of food in this restaurant is not the best. Service is pretty good but would not recommend going back.

Had a lovely meal here last Saturday night with my husband & my mum. We like to try different places and were impressed with the food & service. There was a choice of set price menu or A la Carte and we had the set price as.there was plenty of choice on it. We will definitely be back.

As always got my usual special curry tonight but no prawns,the price keeps going up but the ingredients are removed,please tell me why.its not cheap.beef should be slow cooked to make it tender

We absolutely love this place. We live in Manchester and come to Johnstone to visit family. If we are having Chinese food it's the only place to go. We usually order extra and take home to freeze!! Chicken satay, beef Satay (on the skewer), chicken chow mien, ribs, chicken and cashew nuts all very very nice. Staff are also very friendly. Wish we had a place like this at home in Manchester. Food freshly made, sauce is nice and thick until some other restaurant. Great value for money, would definitely recommend.

This is probably the best Chinese Restaurant in the area with top quality food and service. Used a Groupon deal this time and is cracking value.

I have used the Canton mostly for takeaways for years. Food is excellent but starting to get very prices. The restaurant is nice too.

Really enjoyed meal, and service was really good. Been here a couple of times on Groupon deals and have always had a pleasant experience. Both me and my mother in law has used this lots of times now.

Have been several times in the last 12 months and have always enjoyed my meal. Lunch menu is a bit 'basic' and could do with a bit of a revamp.

This is probably the best Chinese in renfrewshire the food here is amazing.the curry is superb and the combo starter was terrific. A must for lovers of good Chinese food

Time for home delivery in this take away is dreadful, always has been but tonight must be the worse yet! Waited over an hour for a local delivery, when I called I was told delivery was on way, still waiting 45 minutes later, phoned to speak to manager, told that the manager only comes in on a Friday!Will NEVER use this restaurant again, do not recommend it as home delivery.

The food and service here were both excellent, went for the early evening menu and it was especially tasty and came out piping hot. The service was good, with the staff being friendly and helpful.

I have to start by saying the canton as a restaurant is fantastic, great food and very friendly staff. I was there with my wife I ordered the beef chow mein with salt and chilli chips my wife the crispy shredded chicken and sweet and sour sauce both fantastic. Tonight we thought we would order the chow mein with salt and chilli chips. All I can say is it was like ordering out a completely different place chips were soggy and chow mein was dry. I will definitely eat at the restaurant again but for the takeaway I will stick to somewhere else.

My favourite Chinese place to eat highly recommended friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Top nosh.

Always a warm welcome, fast service and... most importantly ... good food! Where else would you not even need to say what you want to order? OK it's the same order each week but still a nice touch that they remember.

Have eaten here several times with my Wife and we have both enjoyed the food. Our go to dish is 'Crispy Shredded Chicken in Peking Sauce' which is both flavourful and has a mild spice.My favourite starter is the Salt and pepper chicken wings, unfortunately they are so popular that they regularly run out.Staff are attentive and happy to help.

Recently ate here in the evening with family and an under 2 year old. Great menu , thoroughly enjoyed the food, staff were very pleasant. Service was a little slow but it was an extremely busy Friday evening and the carry out section was constantly busy. No problems whatsoever with toddler, most relaxed I've seen her in a restaurant. Definitely would visit again.

Second time in a month we have have visited and I can't fault it. Also had a few take aways from the canton in the past. Would definately be back. Love the salt n chilli chips. Amazing

Great place to order chinese takeaway from. Can place order over the phone and its ready for you to collect. No waiting about. Fast service and food is great tasting.Staff are friendly and helpful. Best Chinese in the area.

Been going to this restaurant and takeaway since it opened in early 1970's got my first beef curry for a whopping £1.50, and l was hooked takeaways have come and gone in the area but the canton keeps rolling on due to the good food it's been a family run business and the present owner Ian is a nice guy as is his family and staff who work there. It's a little bit more expensive but that's what you pay for good food. If you are in Johnstone and in the mood for a Chinese meal try the CANTON you won't be disappointed.

I had a chicken and sweet corn soup from here and it was loaded with far too much MSG to the point I started to feel the side effects of it and it wasn't pleasant, also the gravy is barking and the chicken fried rice is not up to scratch, i will be going elsewhere from now on.

I love this restaurant the food is awesome with a wide variety, the staff are so friendly they make everyone feel like a regular. It is very clean after recently being updated it looks refreshed I will eat here again and again without question.

Four of us really enjoyed the £13.90 three course evening meal here. We were really surprised to see the vast range of staters and main courses on offer in this 'set menu'. The food was plentiful and of a very high standard. We were served by a young man who was both helpful and friendly - one of the best waiters we have met for some time. This is ordinary looking place on the high street, but is actually a hidden gem! Well worth a visit.

When we want a chineses takeaway we have always ordered from here. I feel that in the lady year the quality of the food is not to the high standard it once was. Also sometimes when our delivery arrived it was not hot enough. Not sure how the food is stored in delivery car.

Great value lunchtime meal deals served in one container. Food is always freshly cooked and delicious.

Personally I was not totally impressed by the "Chicken Curry Breast ( chopped )" ... it came as what looked like square cubes of chicken that you would get prepared ..... the square cubes also seemed undercooked and rubbery. As the title said - pretty average.

Recently the menu had an update and it is nicely presented. The food is of good quality and tasty - I recommend the chicken satay. Home delivery is normally very fast and staff are very pleasant.

Both in the restaurant & the take away food is delicious & always prepared to a high standard! You do pay a wee bit more than other take aways but it is the best Chinese take away for miles! The staff are friendly are go out their way to make changes to orders as requested. Highly recommended great lunch time deals & afternoon specials within the restaurant too!

Our long time regular Chinese Restaurant closed down unexpectedly, so we travelled about locally trying different Chinese Restaurants ...until we found this one.The Restaurant looked to be recently refurbished. The seating is very comfortable. It sells a good range of traditional "British" Chinese food. The Staff are very friendly and polite. We've now been back three times and hope to be back again soon.

I have been going to Canton for years all staff are friendly and really look after you. Food is amazing never had a bad meal total perfection!! Staff are great with the kids and always accommodate the fussy eaters lol Keep up the good work

This is a very popular restaurant and been established at least 30 years it their menu is stuck in a time warp. I asked for veggie satay. The bowl was full but I could have stood my fork in it, the sauce was so thick and salty, not peanuty at all. My veg consisted of mushrooms, bamboo shoots, corn, bamboo shoots, peas and bamboo shoots !! I had a few forkfuls but I honestly couldn't eat it. The staff are so friendly and attentive but the food is really, really tired. Having said all this, my friends really enjoyed their meals !!

Must be the best Chinese in the area.we use for home delivery excellent tasty and hot. They even take the peas out the ham fried rice if you ask. Chicken satay on stick superb. A bit dearer but worth it.

Absolutely love this place, despite living in Johnstone all my life I only discovered it last year! Amazing value for money, great food and great service.

My only complaint is that it makes other chinese takeaways/restaurants seem rubbish. I love the food, the quality is excellent and the restaurant is very cozy.

We booked a table for my wife's birthday and the three of us were shown to a nice booth by one of the friendly staff. Drinks were brought promptly and advice was offered on the menu choices. We all opted for the three course pre theatre menu for under £13. The food was amazing, ribs, soup, crab claws and samosas were all delicious. The mains were great too, chicken curry, chicken in oyster sauce and salt and chilli chicken were all scoffed. Such a great atmosphere in the place,,,, well worth a visit

Went for their pre theatre at £12.50 for a 3 course. Kids menu was £7.50 again for a 3 course. Chicken sweetcorn soup was boiling hot but tasty the ribs were superb and the combo starter was great too. The mains were satay which was spicy the combo curry was nice but the chicken was not breast chicken and a bit fatty. The sweets we ordered where pineapple and banana fritter. The pineapple tasted weird and they charged an extra 50p for ice cream. Was a bit shocked at the price of their magners cider. It was a really small bottle at £3.60. Better value to buy a pint of lager Guinness or beer at £3.80. Overall the food was nice the place was clean and the staff were great but just a bit pricey for what we got.

I have been visiting the Canton for many years now, mainly for take away.Can be very busy on a Friday and Saturday night so would suggest calling in advance to order.Not the cheapest but well worth it.Caters for my families gluten free requirements.Great tasting food. Third time in over the last 3 months we visited, and went on the 2 course pre-theatre menu. Very nice indeed. Very warm welcome, staff not in your face. I also like the fact that (even though we were only one's in !) when we ordered our food, it took time to come out - a sure sign it's made fresh & not all "heated-up-and-waiting" for you like some establishments. Not a huge choice on the menu, but what they have is very welll executed. I recommend you try this lovely little place. Food-wise, you won't be disappointed.

I grew up in Johnstone and always regarded the Canton as the best Chinese in the area. I went home for NY and ordered a takeaway to eat at home. It was great as usual. I have eaten in the restaurant before and it was excellent too. All the staff I have came in to contact with over the years have been lovely.

Food is average for a Chinese , also by the time it comes upstairs to the table it's not that hot . I would not recommend dining there

For chinese food I like the standard of this restaurant ...... you can normally tell by how many locals use it and the place is very busy. We now use it a lot, therefore that speaks for itself. Reasonably priced, good service, not so good decor and furnishings.
