Canaletto Italian Restaurant and Public House in Aylesbury Vale

Probably the worst pizza I ever had. The asparagus with cheese starter and the combination of different types of fish main were one of the most disappointing "specials" ever. And this was after more than an hour wait, listening to the loudest drunken customers sitting next to us.

We’ve been regulars for years but recently that home cooked feeling was lost. Clearly store bought gravy, ready made potatoes etc. To charge £25 for half a seabass and 5 boiled potatoes is just outrageous. Sadly we won’t be coming back.

A very cozy place, very friendly and efficient staff and very good food and a very reasonable price. Highly recommended

We visited today as a family, and had the warmest welcome when we arrived. All the staff were so lovely with our baby. The food was absolutely incredible! We had to leave early due to our baby being poorly and the staff made us feel so at home and were so kind. Can’t wait to come back again!

We had an early dinner after visiting Waddesdon manor. What an excellent place! The ambience was lovely and had nice Xmas decor, the food was also very good! Reasonably priced wines and attentive staff too, thank you.

We just love it. Have been about 5 times now. It's the best authentic Italian food anywhere. Staff are always brilliant too.

Came for lunch on my birthday 28 Oct with OH and sister. Have passed by many times and avoided mistakenly thinking it would be one of those Italians with a huge menu with ready made dishes Wish we had tried earlier. Huge restaurant which was quite empty at lunch time but this did not spoil ambience. The menu had a good selection including vegetarian and I was torn whether to try the special and I had been assured that everything cooked to order - and I believe it was . the wines we chose were delicious and good value The staff were friendly and helpful but not overbearing - we certainly took a lot of their time by chatting with them (probably too much but they did not seem to mind) Look forward to returning soon and would certainly recommend Gracias and Grazie!

This place is an absolute gem, we will be back. It's like a little slice of Italy, great food, great service and a really nice feel and atmosphere.

Mediocre food. I would say not better than chain restaurants like Zizzi or Pizza Express. Their so called recommended dessert like kind of pure liquid sugar. Don’t order it.

Great food in the restaurant, Italian themed. Canaletto though still is a friendly place for those who want a quick snack and a drink from the bar. Prices for real ale and lager are very reasonable for an establishment which prides itself in good food. During the winter months there is a warm glow from the open wood fire. Some very good cocktails available and a half price happy hour on cocktails before 19.30

I was really looking forward to dining at this restaurant but boy was I disappointed. It states this is authentic Italian food but it could not be further from the truth. It is no more authentic Italian than an English teapot. I am Italian and no way is this the food I was brought up on or eat and my Nonna & Nonno's ( nan and grandad in italian) Italians allways strive on yummy food and big portions. And after my meal, If you could even call it that I was hungry when I left the restaurant. Starter: So my starter I had the insalata (prosciutto ham, pecorino cheese, seasoned asparagus and pea shoots) so whilst eating this I picked up a piece of prosciutto on my fork and a HUGE FLY crawled out from underneath. The fly seemed to have been stunned so I think it was in my dish in the fridge as the fly was just crawling around my plate. I immediately called the server and showed them the fly and they flicked the fly off the table and took my plate away. At this point I felt sick and horrified. The other two people on my table finished there starters and I was then presented with another starter and the server joked that here is a new one without the fly and laughed. I thought this was extremely disprectful. My starter was so small and no way should be £12. There was no traditional antipasti on the menu, no bread for the table, olives were £5 for about 6/7 olives. Very disappointing. Main: my main I wanted to try the pizza and I had the Calabrese sourdough pizza ( San marzano tomato, buffalo mozzarella, calabrian 'Nduja sausage and spicy silami) when it come out it was tiny, and the dough was soggy and under my pizza my plate was soaking wet with oil. This pizza was £16 and honestly could of had a better pizza from a high street takeaway. After all this I was very dissatisfied and would not recommend this restaurant. As an Italian myself this is no way authentic and I am disgusted this place calls it's self a Italian restaurant. As I said before I left this restaurant hungry and no Italian meal you should leave hungry. Regarding the fly in my starter I diddnt get an apology and the price of the starter was not taken off my bill. Very disappointing restaurant and would not recommend. Overpriced and very small portions

My Wife and I attended a Dinner Jazz evening at Canaletto on 13th September. For £49 each we enjoyed a superb 3 course meal and great 4 piece band, playing jazz classics. The ambience and attentive staff made the evening complete. We’re already looking forward to next month’s event!

It was my 60th birthday so I was looking for somewhere a little different, this was a great choice, The welcome was very friendly, the table was ready for us, the staff were attentive, polite and happy, there was a delay in 2 of our meals and the manager dealt with this before it became an issue, If you need a lesson in customer service this is how to do it, thank you, it actually made the occasion. The food was excellent, hot, tasty and filling, Will we return,,, most definitely, looking forward to trying something else from the menu

Had dinner this evening with a large table of 10. Service was 100% from the minute we arrived. Drinks and food came to the table in good time and the food was really nice and fresh. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks for a great evening.

Good food in pleasant surroundings.

Firstly I would like to start with the positives really lovely people. The food was nice I was expecting better if I’m honest given the prices and previous reviews. What unfortunately let it down for me we’re the desert costs £9 is just too expensive. I understand ingredient costs etc have risen but still I think that just let it down for us as they were not worth that cost. If they were chilled it would have helped but when they are going around on a trolly for the evening some deserts shouldn’t be at room temperature. But as I say lovely people.

Perfect restaurant for a romantic date night. The food was superb, as was the wine selection, cocktails and service. My only negative was that the lobster linguine could have done with a bit more lobster at £32. Would highly recommend.

First visit here, will certainly be coming back. Menue selection was fantastic, really good range of food there will be something for everyone. Highlights at Canaletto : The deserts! Our Waiter rolled out a deserts trolley and absolutely everything looked amazing! We chose the lemon cake and home made tiramisu which was outstanding! My wife is itlian and can be very critical about the way itlian food is made in England, she said this was the best tiramisu she has EVER had! My Lemon cake was also extreamly good! I would come back just to try all the deserts! The Coffee, ... we like to try coffee everywhere we go and always make sure its as pure as it gets with a espresso. The Coffee here at Canaletto is easly the best in Aylesbury. Its not even close, espresso was beautiful we had 4! If you are ever passing by and just need a coffee for your journey this is the best coffee in town hands down! Lastly the service, Both waiters who served us today very polite, friendly and welcoming. Very glad we decide to book and make the journey, we shall most deffiently be returning. Very fairly priced aswell 5 stars!

Great Italian food. My in-laws have been coming here for 30 years. Fish dishes are always good, as is thr pudding trolley!

We booked to celebrate Father's Day. Although the set menu looked utterly delicious, my husband and son had their hearts set on carbonara as it is their absolute favourite. This was kindly supplied by the kitchen, and it was as stunningly fabulous as ever. Lovely service and fantastic food. What more could we ask?

Not sure if I've just got terribly unlucky - this was the first time I've tried this restaurant. The pizza was genuinely a supermarket pizza with a few extra toppings on (far different to the pizzas on the Google images list!) extremely disappointed, would recommend avoiding

An end of work dinner for a team of 7 and every person more than happy with their orders. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, the surroundings are pleasant and inviting but most of all the food was superb. Unfortunately, a few of us were driving, so the wine list was reluctantly left alone. If this restaurant was local to me, I’d be a regular. Recommended.

A group of 5 of us went for dinner for my husband's birthday. The service was very good, the waiters knew the menu and could advise. The food was delicious - we all had 3 courses and were very happy with our dishes. They provided a slice of cake with a candle for the birthday boy and sung happy birthday, which he was not expecting! Will definitely return.

We met for a family lunch, to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent, and all the food was lovely and cooked fresh. The menu is great for all ages. We will return when the opportunity arises.

Everyone I know who had eaten there said it was expensive but worth every dime. Having had great expectations of the place, this evening had been utter disappointment. For this price, I expect good service and decent food. When we walked in, the member of staff didn't offer a smile and just showed us to our place. The starters were good (calamari and prawns), but the main weren't great. The duck breast was chewy, not tender; the fish was dry, needed more sauce; lobster linguine was okay I guess? I was still hungry and wanted dessert, but after the disappointing meal I didn't want to waste more money on more disappointment. Took forever to pay our bill as staff always seemed to be elsewhere. Bill was a ridiculous amount; there are at least a few restaurants in mind that have better food, better service and better atmosphere for half that price! Won't be going there again

Visited late afternoon at short notice. Had an excellent meal and the service was friendly and very helpful. Sadly we don’t live locally but would definitely return when next in the area.

My daughter Claire arranged a very amazing surprise 80th birthday lunch party for me on Saturday 18 March in the conservatory. Everything was excellent - the food, service and ambience. The staff worked so hard. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. We always try to go to Canaletto for dinner on our anniversary in September each year and did so on our golden wedding 6 years ago. We would highly recommend the restaurant. Can’t wait to return.

Great restaurant. Superb decor, very welcoming. Busy. Very good menu, great choices. Bread and butter brought to the table which is nice. Can definitely recommend all the dishes we had e.g Calves Liver, Tuscan beef, Steak. Lovely dessert trolley comes round. All very tempting. Will definitely go again.

On the main A41 road, near to Waddesdon Manor. It has a large car. The restaurant is very popular so advance booking is recommended.

We came by this place by chance whilst staying in the area. We would definitely return in future after an excellent meal and service. The choice of house wines were really good too! The waiter went out of his way to show me the bottle. I should also point out the interior and surrounding were done to a high standard.

I love this place. it's a joy to eat there. All the food is authentic and freshly cooked, even the desserts. Staff are lovely, so friendly, and nothing is too much bother. It's one of my favourite places.

If I could rate this place a 0 I would, easily one of the worst valentines experiences ever.. We turned up on time, a table of 4, with my Fiancé who had broken her leg and was clearly walking on crutches - we were stood waiting to be seated for nearly 20mins, with their staff walking past us saying they’ll ‘be seating us soon’, yet doing their job and then going to serve the other tables leaving us standing there like plums. When finally seated, it took them another 25 mins to ask us for our food orders… The food was mediocre, some tasteless, and all this cost £55 per person - and don’t get me started on the desserts! The desserts came out on a moving trolley, which would be periodically left in the middle of the floor whilst everyone was eating, just leaving the desserts to melt and take in all the elements - I truly felt like we were at a budget butlins, with staff that clearly weren’t interested in treating us like their other elderly guests because of our age! We got our mains at 9:45, considering we arrived at 8:30, I’ve never experienced a more awful establishment which was much to my surprise considering the reviews. And to round it all off, when we took the service charge off we were met with a super cold response - which looking back shows that they clearly thought they done a great job! Waste of money, and won’t be recommending nor returning.

Stunningly fresh food with plenty of options. Daily special was delicious. Staff are extremely welcoming and loved engaging in conversation which added to the atmosphere. Can seem a little pricey but this is not a fast food, mass produced restaurant; spend the time and money to enjoy some truly stunning and authentic Italian food and wine. We will undoubtedly visit again.

I love homemade Italian food, in particular it is my favorite Italian restaurant, everything is delicious and the desserts are also all homemade and delicious, the service is very attentive and friendly, and everything is very clean and the atmosphere is great.

Stopped for a quick lunch mid week as we were passing. Lovely room, clean, chic, very well decorated - clearly have invested in this. Service was quick and competent. We shared a starter, a pizza and a pasta between two of us. The pizza was certainly store bought (and I believe probably frozen). Admittedly I saw a photo of a pizza posted by another reviewer and it looks handmade so perhaps we came across a chef feeling particularly lazy on a quiet lunchtime shift, but there’s no excuse for this 🤌. Pasta was better but not great - had an odd sour taste that I couldn’t put my finger on. Food needs a lot of improvement to do justice to the room.
